• Installing software after .wim image

  I have been looking all day into how to install software to a .wim image. I have a .wim image of a laptop that will be deplyed to 20 more. The image is pretty much good to go except I need to add a couple more drivers and a couple more applications. Is there a way to do this in the answer file? Do I have to deploy the image, install the drivers/application, sysprep, and recapture the image? Any information relating to this will be greatly appreciated. Leon ps I have only been using answer files and imagex. Would like to stick with this for the time being. I plan on using WDT and WDS when I have some time to learn about it.

• WinXP keyboard input repeat rate problem

  I have problem similar to http://superuser.com/questions/33981/problems-with-kvm-switch-and-keyboard-repeat-rate-on-windows-xp: When I press and hold some key it's repeated random number of times, after that repeat stops and I need to release key and press it again to make repeat continue. If there's simultaneous sound playback and repeat is stopped, sound's stuck while I hold key with unpleasant drumming as if there's some audio problem. This issue is reproducible in WinXP Safe Mode. On the same config under Linux there's no issue. My config: List item PS/2 Logitech Keyboard USB Mouse MB M3A/H-HDMI WinXP Pro English SP2 with added Russian layout (WinXP loads via GRUB2) Realtek audio drivers for AC97 Thanks for your suggestions J

• Problems with connecting to ASM instance

  I have Oracle11 with RAC installed on RedHat 5. I have two servers with two instances one on each one. In each server I succeed connect to appropriate instance of database but not to instance of ASM. I connect with user oracle11 and type: export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1 sqlplus "/ as sysdba" It connects but write: Connected to an idle instance and when I try to access to parameters or views I have errors. For know that +ASM1 is the SID I type: ps aux | grep pmon and get: asm_pmon_+ASM1 I tried also with +ASM but it was also unsuccessfully. What is wrong here?

• How to assign a keyboard shortcut to a specific New Window template in Terminal.app?

  I have a template set up in Snow Leopard's Terminal.app to create a new window or tab with my preferred emulation settings for a particular host that I use. I'd like to assign a keyboard shortcut to that template so that I can quickly create a new window with those settings. I tried using the Keyboard Shortcuts System Preference pane to do it. I can assign the shortcut key to the MyTemplate submenu, but it doesn't work when I try to use it. I suspect because the MyTemplate is listed in multiple submenus -- one for New Window and one for New Tab. How can I assign a keyboard shortcut to my new fancy template? PS. I do NOT wish to change my default (cmd-N) template.

• Mouse button and keypress counter for Linux?

  I would like to have some kind of statistic of my daily mouse/keyboard usage to help me make my keyboard layout a little bit more efficient. There is already an question about how to do this on windows, but I would like to know I anyone is aware if this is possible under linux. Another thing I already found is key-mon, a little program for screencasts that displays your mouse and keyboard presses on the screen, which would help me achieve what I want with a little bit of python coding by myself. • Server error 500 when adding .htaccess file in the root folder

  I read a lot of server error 500 questions related to the famous .htaccess file but I have still not found an answer to this error. I have a folder which I used to test the .htaccess file. =>http://localhost/xampp/example/ I copied the .htaccess in the example folder and I get server error 500 my .htaccess file contains this: <IfModule mod_expires.c> ExpiresActive on ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 1 days" </IfModule> I have changed my httpd.conf file: all AllowOverrride None to AllowOverride All i have also uncommented this line: LoadModule expires_module modules/mod_expires.so error.log says: ExpiresActive not allowed here I still get the error 500 What is actually happening? • Check integrity of Debian system after possible rootkit?

  Good day! I have a system that was possible rootkited (the IRC bot was installed and +ai attributes were set on /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, /bin, /sbin). The IRC bots were deleted and system was upgraded to 5.0.4 from 4.0. I'm afraid that something in folders I've mentioned was modified. I can't reinstall the box, so if there any way to check integrity of the system? P.S. I have already checked rkhunter and chrootkit. Thanks in advance!

• reclaime like, recovery software

  I need a recovery software that has the features of reclaime file recovery. Those are, to be able to read image files, to keep folder structure, to be as efficient but to be free. I can't afford reclaime and all free software that i know out there either support folder structure but cannot read an image of the array created or the opposite. Can somebody suggest some software? PS: I used reclaime to create an image of my RAID0 broken array and with reclaime file recovery i can see all my files intact but i cannot recover without purchase.

• Printer options follow Office documents

  One person (John) creates an Office document, and prints this document to his HP printer which is using HP Universal Printing PS (v4.7) driver. He has got Job Storage (Personal job) enabled for this printer, with custom username and a personal PIN. He later sends this document in an e-mail to his colleagues. Another person (Anne) opens the document, and tries to print the document to her HP printer (also using HP Universal Printing driver), but is not able to fetch it on the printer. The Job Storage options from Johns computer follows the Office Excel document, so Anne has to change this manually to her username and her PIN before she can print. What on earth is causing this, and how do we fix it?

• Asus EeePC X101CH Touchpad issue

  I have an Asus EeePC X101CH that the touchpad was uninstalled from (I saw the uninstall dialog boxes open). After a restart there was a PS/2 mouse under View Hidden Devices in Device Manager that wasn't installed properly (I'm assuming that this is the touchpad). Going to the Asus website and downloading the drivers (V15.3.27.1), I get the error message "Synaptics device not found!". I tried the other driver Version v9.1.7.7 for the Sentelic TouchPad as well (when run it appears to be the driver for the finger sensing) and got the error message "This driver version is inapplicable for the touch pad. Please check the devices on the system and install the suitable driver.". What's my next step? Thanks!

• Stream Music To Ventrilo From ESXi VM

  I would like to stream music to my Ventrilo server from a Windows XP virtual machine running on an ESXi host. I have followed the instructions outlined here to stream music from something like VLC to the Ventrilo server on another machine and it works fine. I have also added the lines: sound.present = "TRUE" sound.virtualDev = "es1371" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" to my .vmx file, as suggested here (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/191878), to get a sound card in my VM. The problem I am having is that it seems that my VM is not outputting any sound, so there's nothing to stream through Ventrilo. The Device Manager on the VM shows that this new sound card has drivers and doesn't appear to have any concerns with it. Can someone point me in the right direction to get my desired outcome? Thanks! • What is the best OS for a server hosting a simple Ruby on Rails based pastebin

  I have created a simple pastebin in Ruby on Rails and Python. I want to host it in an intranet and it will have like about 1000 users. I want to use one Apache server with a cluster of Mongrel servers. The server itself is a 2 GHz Intel Centrino with 2 GB RAM. What do you think is the best OS to host this? I thought about Damn Small Linux or a custom LFS system. Ubuntu servers come with loads of stuff I don't need. Maybe there are some better OSes? It must be capable of: Running Apache Running Ruby Running Python Running Mongrel with Ruby on Rails SSH Can anyone reccomend me one? Thanks. PS: I am not going to run Windows Server or Mac OS X Server (Mac's are expensive).

• Suddenly blocked from a site

  Suddenly from a time to now I haven't been able to go to a site I used to go frequently for maintenance (Wordpress). I tried different browsers, restarting my laptop, clearing cache, history, cookies. Also did a ping to the site ip, go 4 packets send and 4 lost. This is a problem I think with only my laptop, since I've been able to go into the site from other devices in the same network. I have also tried connecting to the same site from a completely different network with the same problem. I really don't know what to do about this, any advices? PS: site hosted in wp engine if that has anything to do with this problem.

• Deleting large no of files on linux eats up CPU

  I generate more than 50GB of cache files on my RHEL server (and typical file size is 200kb so no of files is huge). When I try to delete these files it takes 8-10 hours. However, the bigger issue is that the system load goes to critical for these 8-10 hours. Is there anyway where I can keep the system load under control during the deletion. I tried using nice -n19 rm -rf * but that doesn't help in system load. P.S. I asked the same question on superuser.com but didn't get a good enough answer so trying here.

• How to disable Windows 8 lock screen?

  So I took a plunge and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my main home PC. So far so good, but there is one annoyance - the system "locks" the computer after a period of inactivity causing me to re-enter my password. I really would like to avoid this, but have no idea how. I already tried the power settings (no pass on wake up) and the screen saver settings with no luck. Is this some sort of bug, or am I missing something? P.S. In this case I favor convenience over security.

  Does SELinux make Redhat more secure? I can't remember the number of times when I have disabled SELinux because it kept frustrating my ability to get stuff running. Lots of times to there was no obvious reason why stuff wasn't working and I had to Google to discover why. Given that most casual users will disable or weaken security when it appears to get in the way, with the exclusion of serious, enterprisey Redhat users, is SELinux really useful? PS. Is there some tool that helps you log, track and manage SELinux issues across all applications? In spite of being an Ubuntu user I am a closet Fedora fan.

• dhclient configures /etc/resolv.conf with invalid entry

  I'm trying to figure out why running dhclient on my interface sets /etc/resolv conf to the ip number of my gateway(router). This entry is invalid and each and every time causes inability to resolve any address. I would like to: stop dhclient from overwriting the /etc/resolv.conf or make dhclient write there the valid dns ip from my router More on the environment: I'm using virtual Debian Wheezy as a client system on Windows Seven x64. It is run by Virtualbox with networking mode set to bridged (all packets from debian are injected to my network interface on windows). If I manually configure the /etc/resolv.conf then everything works fine. Doing this on every boot is quite annoying.. PS I know I can write a script to do it for me, but this is not the solution I want. //edit router ip: 192.168.1.100 /etc/resolv.conf AFTER running dhclient eth0: "nameserver 192.168.1.100" what I would like the /etc/resolv.conf to look like: "nameserver 89.202.xxxx" (I don't have to provide the real ip do I? )

  I've learned today, if you append to your query OPTION (MAXDOP 0) your query will run on multiple processors and if it's huge query, query will perform faster. I know general guidelines on query optimizations (using indexes, selecting only needed fields etc.), my question is about SQL Server optimization. Maybe changing some options in configurations or anything else. What guidelines are there for SQL Server Optimization? Thank you. P.S. • Why are there tons of PHP processes open on my server?

  Today I saw that a website of mine isn't working so I ssh'd to the server and executed ps -eF. I see about 200 PHP processes that are running all for 4 hours. Apache is built with mpm event and mod fcgid. I killed all the PHP processes and now it's running fine, why does this happen? is this expected behavior? I don't really understand how processes how Apache keeps track of the number of PHP processes and their process IDs, so it would be nice if someone can also give some reference when I can read about this. Also, I used the "ab" command (Apache Benchmark) to see if this happens all the time, so I ran it about 4-5 times with 30 concurrent requests and again there are like 150 PHP processes running, when I keep running "ab" now it doesn't spawn more processes and the website is still working. Please shed some light on this! Thank you :)

  I have a CentOS server running WHM that uses FastCGI (mod_fcgid) running PHP 5.2.17 on Apache 2.0 with SuExec. When I start Apache it begins fine and serving requests. If I run ps on the terminal as root I see the php processes and they are owned by their httpd parent processes. After X amount of time - different from time to time, not much longer than a few hours typically - the server will begin spawning PHP jobs owned by the init process ID (1) Example of good listing: 12918 18254 /usr/bin/php 12918 18257 /usr/bin/php 12918 18293 /usr/bin/php 12918 18545 /usr/bin/php 12918 18546 /usr/bin/php 12918 19016 /usr/bin/php 12918 19948 /usr/bin/php Then later something like: 1 6800 /usr/bin/php 1 6801 /usr/bin/php 1 7036 /usr/bin/php 1 8788 /usr/bin/php 1 10488 /usr/bin/php 1 10571 /usr/bin/php 1 10572 /usr/bin/php The php processes running owned by (1) never get cleaned up. Why would these processes be running? We don't use setsid or anything beyond basic PHP in the code this server is running. Cheers & Thanks

  I am trying to set up a simple horizonatal Tomcat clustering in windows XP. Have created a workers.properties file in conf/ directory next to httpd.conf file. However, when trying to start apache using httpd.exe, I am getting the below error.
