• Rip and Convert DVD’s to an ISO Image

  If you own a lot of DVD’s, you might want to convert them to an ISO image for backup and easily playing them on your media center. Today we take a look at ripping your discs using DVDFab, then using ImgBurn to create an ISO image of the ripped DVD files. Rip DVD with DVDFab6 DVDFab will remove copy protection and rip the DVD files for free. Other components in the suite require you to purchase a license after the 30 day trial, but you’ll still be able to rip DVD’s after the trial. Install DVDFab by accepting the defaults (link below)…a system restart is required to complete the install process. The first time you run it, a welcome screen is displayed. If you don’t want to see it again check the box Do not show again, then Start DVDFab.  Pop the DVD in your drive and click Next. Now select your region and check Do not show again, then OK. It will then open the DVD and begin to scan it. Under DVD to DVD you can select either Full Disc or Main Movie depending on what you want to rip. If you want to burn the DVD to a disc after it’s created select the Full Disc option. Now click the Start button to begin the ripping process. After the ripping process has completed, you’ll get a message telling you it’s waiting for you to put in a blank DVD. Since we aren’t burning the disc, just cancel the message. Click Finish and close out of DVDFab or just minimize it if you’re going to keep using it to rip another DVD. By default the temporary directory is in My Documents \ DVDFab \ Temp…however you can change it in settings. If you go to the Temp directory you’ll see the DVD files listed there… Convert Files to ISO with ImgBurn Now that we have the files ripped from the DVD, we need to convert them to an ISO image using ImgBurn (link below). Open it up and from the main menu click on Create image file from files/folders. Click on the folder icon to browse to the location of the ripped DVD files. Browse to the DVDFab temp directory and the VIDEO_TS folder for the source and click Ok. Then choose a destination directory, give the ISO a name, and click Save. In this case we ripped the Unbreakable DVD, so named it that.   So now in ImgBurn you have the source being the ripped DVD files, and the destination for the ISO…then click the Build button. If you don’t create a volume label, ImgBurn is kind enough to create on for you. If everything looks correct, click Ok. Now wait while ImgBurn goes through the process of converting the ripped DVD files to an ISO image. The process has successfully completed. The ISO image of the DVD will be in the output directory you selected earlier. Now you can burn the ISO image to a blank DVD or store it on an external hard drive for safe keeping. When you’re done, you’ll probably want to go into the temp DVDFab folder and delete the VOB and other files in the Video_TS folder as they will take up a lot of space on your hard drive.   Conclusion Although this method requires two programs to make an ISO out of a DVD, it’s extremely quick. When burning DVD’s of various lengths, it took less than 30 minutes to get the final ISO. Now, you’ll have your DVD movies backed up in case something were to happen to the discs and are no longer playable. • How do I prevent my form from freezing when it is loading an image from the web at the click of a button?

  I want to display an image from the web to a panel in another Jframe at the click of a button but whenever I click the button first the image loads and during this time the current form potentially freezes and once the image has loaded the form is displayed with the image.. • Databinding in WinForms performing async data import

  I have a scenario where I have a collection of objects bound to a datagrid in winforms. If a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I need to add a placeholder row into the grid and kick off a lengthy async import process. I need to communicate the status of the async import process back to the UI, updating the row in the grid and have the UI remain responsive to allow the user to edit the other rows. What's the best practice for doing this? My current solution is: binding a thread safe implementation of BindingList to the grid, filled with the objects that are displayed as rows in the grid. When a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I create a new object containing the sparse info obtained from the dropped item and add that to the BindingList, disabling the editing of that row. I then fire off a separate thread to do the import, passing it the newly bound object I have just created to fill with data. The import process, periodically sets the status of the object and fires an event which is subscribed to by the UI telling it to refresh the grid to see the new properties on the object. Should I be passing the same object that is bound to the grid to the import process thread to operate on, or should I be creating a copy and merging back the changes to the object on the UI thread using BeginInvoke? Any problems or advice with this implementation? Thanks

  I'm confused how to import a SQL dump file. I can't seem to import the database without creating the database first in MySQL. This is the error displayed when database_name has not yet been created: username = username of someone with access to the database on the original server. database_name = name of database from the original server $ mysql -u username -p -h localhost database_name < dumpfile.sql Enter password: ERROR 1049 (42000): Unknown database 'database_name' If I log into MySQL as root and create the database, database_name mysql -u root create database database_name; create user username;# same username as the user from the database I got the dump from. grant all privileges on database_name.* to username@"localhost" identified by 'password'; exit mysql then attempt to import the sql dump again: $ mysql -u username -p database_name < dumpfile.sql Enter password: ERROR 1007 (HY000) at line 21: Can't create database 'database_name'; database exists How am I supposed to import the SQL dumpfile?

But when I requested localhost:8888 I got a (huge) stack trace originating from an ImportError: <type 'exceptions.ImportError'>: No module named mysite I can import the module from the interpreter, and if i just execute index.rpy as a python script, I don't get the import error. The documentation on this subject is a bit vague, it just says "However, it is often a better idea to define Resource subclasses in Python modules. In order for changes in modules to be visible, you must either restart the Python process, or reload the module:" (from here). Does anyone know the proper way to do this?

• Combine drivers from multiple Win7 installs to single image

  I need to prepare a Windows 7 image with drivers for multiple systems (Lenovo laptops). I currently have an image prepared on one laptop type but need to grab the drivers appropriate for the other laptop types as well to ensure that it works on all systems. From what I can tell, the procedure will be: create a boot CD with imageX take a .wim image prepared on the first type of systems take .wim images from the other systems mount the other images in WAIK extract the drivers from the other images inject the drivers into the first .wim boot a system with the boot CD and redeploy the updated .wim image into the Windows partition take an image of the drive with usual imaging tools This all seems a little too convoluted, but I'm willing to do it to get the proper drivers into the image. This is (seemingly) necessarily complicated by having more than one OS on the disk image. Am I on the right track?

  Hello I'm implementing a custom print preview control. One of the objects it needs to display is an image which can be several pages high and wide. I've successfully divided the image into pages and displayed them in the correct order. Each "page" is drawn within the marginbounds. (That is, each page is sized to be the same as the marginBounds.) The problem I have is that the image the page represents exceeds the bottom margin. However if I draw a rectangle with the same dimensions as the image, at the same position as the image, the rectangle matches the marginbounds. Thus when drawn to the page (in print preview and printed page) the image is larger than a rectangle drawn based on the image dimensions. I.e. The image is drawn at the same size as e.MarignBounds and is drawn at e.MarginBounds.Location yet exceeds the bottom margin. How is this? • sql server: import operation won't copy full schema

  I recall that the import tool in sql server 2000 would copy indexes, relationships, etc. In sql server 2005/2008 the import tool in SSMS will only create the tables, copy the data, but the keys, indexes, relationships are missing. I can find no option in the import wizard to enable this? What am I missing here? Is this not possible anymore for any good reason?

• Import-Pssession is not importing cmdlets when used in a custom module

  I have a PowerShell script/function that works great when I use it in my PowerShell profile or manually copy/paste the function in the PowerShell window. I'm trying to make the function accessible to other members of my team as a module. I want to have the module stored in a central place so we can all add it to our PSModulePath. Here is a copy of the basic function: Function Connect-O365{ $o365cred = Get-Credential [email protected] $session365 = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $o365cred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection Import-PSSession $session365 -AllowClobber } If I save this function in my PowerShell profile it works fine. I can dot source a *.ps1 script with this function in it and it works as well. The issue is when I save the function as a *.psm1 PowerShell script module. The function runs fine but none of the exported commands from the Import-PSSession are available. I think this may have something to do with the module scope. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get around this. I assume its because of modifications I've done to the project, but i have no idea how to find where the error is originating from to fix it. I don't import anything called escape anywhere. Update Using django-admin.py rather than the projects manage.py, don't know why... Update 2 Now manage.py is working. This may be because I had a file called email.py which was trying to import email.mime.text (ie trying to import itself) renaming to sendemail.py solved this problem.

• PHP & MySQL Image deletion problem?

  I have this script that deletes a users avatar image that is stored in a folder name thumbs and another named images and the image name is stored in a mysql database. But for some reason the script deletes all the users info for example if the users id is 3 all of the users info like first name last name age and so are deleted as well, basically everything is deleted including the user how do I fix this so only the images and image name is deleted? • DosBox Booting From HDD Image, FreeDOS Image created with qemu-img.

  I'm having trouble booting a HDD image with DosBox. I've only gotten either read errors, or boot failures. The HDD image is a verified working FreeDOS installation, created with qemu-img. The image has been formatted FAT32, and it's working as expected with QEMU. The Image is only 1G in size, and is a flat raw image. I have been able to mount it with Linux, for ease of file transfer. I even was able to boot with DOSEMU, After I mounted the image under Linux. I would love to somehow just boot from the raw image file, but I would have no problem booting from a mount. I just can't get anything to happen, and I have read the Documents over. I have verified DosBox is working as expected, with its included DOSlike environment. I would appreciate any help, as I just don't have much of DosBox experience.

G’MIC (GREYC’s Magic Image Converter) will add an impressive array of filters and effects to your GIMP installation for image editing goodness. Note: We applied the Contrast Swiss Mask filter to the image shown in the screenshot above to create a nice, warm sunset effect. To add the new PPA open the Ubuntu Software Center, go to the Edit Menu, and select Software Sources. Access the Other Software Tab in the Software Sources Window and add the first of the PPAs shown below (outlined in red). The second PPA will be automatically added to your system. Once you have the new PPAs set up, go back to the Ubuntu Software Center and do a search for “G’MIC”. You will find two listings available and can select either one to add G’MIC to your system (both work equally well). Click on More Info for the listing that you choose and scroll down to where Add-ons are listed. Make sure to select the Add-on listed, click Apply Changes when it appears, and then click Install.
