  • Very odd build problem

    - by user144182
When I build my solution, it complains about a missing referenced DLL. When I rebuild it, the problem goes away. Whenever I do a clean this returns, i.e. have to attempt a build twice before it succeeds. This is vague, but if warranted I can give a better explanation of solution structure.

  • Looking for SQL Server Performance Monitor Tools

    - by the-locster
I may be approaching this problem from the wrong angle but what I'm thinking of is some kind of performance monitor tool for SQl server that works in a similar way to code performance tools, e.g. I;d like to see an output of how many times each stored procedure was called, average executuion time and possibly various resource usage stats such as cache/index utilisation, resultign disk access and table scans, etc. As far as I can tell the performance monitor that comes with SQL Server just logs the various calls but doesn't report he variosu stats I'm looking for. Potentially I just need a tool to analyze the log output?

  • Adding miliseconds to a datetime in tsql INSERT INTO

I'm doing a INSERT INTO query in order to initialize a new table. The primary key is RFQ_ID and Action_Time How could add 1 milisecond to each Action_Time on new record in order to avoid "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint" INSERT INTO QSW_RFQ_Log (RFQ_ID, Action_Time, Quote_ID) SELECT RFQ_ID , GETDATE() AS Action_Time , Quote_ID , 'Added to RFQ on Initialization' AS Note FROM QSW_Quote

  • Make compiler copy characters using movsd

    - by Suma
I would like to copy a relatively short sequence of memory (less than 1 KB, typically 2-200 bytes) in a time critical function. The best code for this on CPU side seems to be rep movsd. However I somehow cannot make my compiler to generate this code. I hoped (and I vaguely remember seeing so) using memcpy would do this using compiler built-in instrinsic, but based on disassembly and debugging it seems compiler is using call to memcpy/memmove library implementation instead. I also hoped the compiler might be smart enough to recognize following loop and use rep movsd on its own, but it seems it does not. char *dst; const char *src; // ... for (int r=size; --r>=0; ) *dst++ = *src++; Is there some way to make the Visual Studio compiler to generate rep movsd sequence other than using inline assembly?

  • SQL Server: Granting db_datawriter on all databases

    - by Michael J Swart
I want to manage permissions and access to a SQL Server database server on a development machine. I've created a local windows group (called DBReaderGroup) and assigned various people to it. The group was created as a SQL Server login successfully: create login [MYMACHINE\DBReaderGroup] from windows My goal is to grant this group read/write access to all databases (which are constantly being added and dropped). Is it possible to configure the right settings so that SQL Server manages this? My biggest challenge is that each time a db is created, I have to update the "User Mapping" settings for this group on the new database. Am I missing something simple?

  • Delphi Application using COMMIT and ROLLBACK for Multiple SQL Updates

    - by Matt
Is it possible to use the SQL BEGIN TRANSACTION, COMMIT TRANSACTION, ROLLBACK TRANSACTION when embedding SQL Queries into an application with mutiple calls to the SQL for Table Updates. For example I have the following code: Q.SQL.ADD(<UPDATE A RECORD>); Q.ExecSQL; Q.Close; Q.SQL.Clear; Q.SQL.ADD(<Select Some Data>); Q.Open; Set Some Variables Q.Close; Q.SQL.Clear; Q.SQL.ADD(<UPDATE A RECORD>); Q.ExecSQL; What I would like to do is if the second update fails I want to roll back the first transaction. If I set a unique notation for the BEGIN, COMMIT, ROLLBACK so as to specify what is being committed or rolled back, is it feasible. i.e. before the first Update specify BEGIN TRANSACTION_A then after the last update specify COMMIT TRANSACTION_A I hope that makes sense. If I was doing this in a SQL Stored Procedure then I would be able to specify this at the start and end of the procedure, but I have had to break the code down into manageable chunks due to process blocks and deadlocks on a heavy loaded SQL Server.

  • No filenames in pdb program database.

    - by Nick
I have a .pdb program database from a C++ application compiled in debug on Windows VS2005. I use the DIA SDK to find function names but I can't seem to retrieve the filenames for the symbols. Is there some switch I need to turn on? Does this work?!

  • Is it possible to easily convert SqlCommand to T-SQL string ?

    - by Thomas Wanner
I have a populated SqlCommand object containing the command text and parameters of various database types along with their values. What I need is a T-SQL script that I could simply execute that would have the same effect as calling the ExecuteNonQuery method on the command object. Is there an easy way to do such "script dump" or do I have to manually construct such script from the command object ?

  • .NET and Closing SQL Server connections

  • SQL Self Join Query Help

    - by hdoe123
Hi All, I'm trying to work out a query that self join itself on a table using the eventnumber. I've never done a self join before. What i'm trying to query is when a client has started off in a city which is chester to see what city they moved to. But I dont want to be able to see if they started off in another city. I would also like be only see the move once (So i'd only like to see if they went from chester to london rather then chester to london to wales) The StartTimeDate is the same EndDateTime if they moved to another city. Data example as follows if they started off in the city chester :- clientid EventNumber City StartDateTime EndDateTime 1 1 Chester 10/03/2009 11/04/2010 13:00 1 1 Liverpool 11/04/2010 13:00 30/06/2010 16:00 1 1 Wales 30/07/2010 16:00 the result I would like to see is on the 2nd row - so it only shows me liverpool. Could anyone point in the right direcetion please?

  • Sharepoint SSRS: Unexpected Error Encountered

    - by Nicholas
We are running an intranet website hosted on Sharepoint 2007, serving reports to users via SSRS. Recently, our users are experiencing error when trying to access certain reports with the error message "An unexpected error has occurred". After trying many things, to cut a long story short we manage to temporarily solve the problem by manually running UPDATE STATISTICS on the tables in the database. However, this error will periodically crop up again and again, running UPDATE STATISTICS immediately solved it. I had suggested to run a daily job in the server to auto run UPDATE STATISTICS every few hours or so but was rejected by my team lead. Is there any other workaround for this error? Why does UPDATE STATISTICS solve the problem, I still not very understand?

  • Reporting Services is displaying extra rows for minimised row groups

    - by Graphain
Hi, I have a fairly basic SQL Server Reporting Services report that is using nested row groups. Each sub-group depends on expanding its parent to be visible which is all pretty standard. The layout is something like this: { Company { { Car SUM(Price) { { { Part Price My desired result when expanded is something like this (which I get fine): - SuperCarCompany - SuperCar 20 Door 20 - SuperCar2 70 Door 30 Window 40 - OtherCarCompany - SuperCar2 50 /* Same SuperCar2 */ Door 50 - MoreCarCompany - BestCarEver 535 Engine 500 Door 30 Window 5 And when opened initially something like this: + SuperCarCompany + OtherCarCompany + MoreCarCompany However, I'm getting this: + SuperCarCompany + SuperCar2 70 (i.e. sum of all SuperCar2) + OtherCarCompany + SuperCar 20 + MoreCarCompany + BestCarEver 535 and I can even expand these superfluous rows like this: + SuperCarCompany - SuperCar2 70 (i.e. sum of all SuperCar2) Door 30 (i.e. first child of any SuperCar2) The superflous rows dissapear immediately when I expand the expected row above it (i.e. I'd need to expand all expected rows to get rid of all superflous rows). Any idea on the cause?

  • Newbie T-SQL dynamic stored procedure -- how can I improve it?

    - by Andy Jones
    I'm new to T-SQL; all my experience is in a completely different database environment (Openedge). I've learned enough to write the procedure below -- but also enough to know that I don't know enough! This routine will have to go into a live environment soon, and it works, but I'm quite certain there are a number of c**k-ups and gotchas in it that I know nothing about. The routine copies data from table A to table B, replacing the data in table B. The tables could be in any database. I plan to call this routine multiple times from another stored procedure. Permissions aren't a problem: the routine will be run by the dba as a timed job. Could I have your suggestions as to how to make it fit best-practice? To bullet-proof it? ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[copyTable2Table] @sdb varchar(30), @stable varchar(30), @tdb varchar(30), @ttable varchar(30), @raiseerror bit = 1, @debug bit = 0 as begin set nocount on declare @source varchar(65) declare @target varchar(65) declare @dropstmt varchar(100) declare @insstmt varchar(100) declare @ErrMsg nvarchar(4000) declare @ErrSeverity int set @source = '[' + @sdb + '].[dbo].[' + @stable + ']' set @target = '[' + @tdb + '].[dbo].[' + @ttable + ']' set @dropStmt = 'drop table ' + @target set @insStmt = 'select * into ' + @target + ' from ' + @source set @errMsg = '' set @errSeverity = 0 if @debug = 1 print('Drop:' + @dropStmt + ' Insert:' + @insStmt) -- drop the target table, copy the source table to the target begin try begin transaction exec(@dropStmt) exec(@insStmt) commit end try begin catch if @@trancount > 0 rollback select @errMsg = error_message(), @errSeverity = error_severity() end catch -- update the log table insert into HHG_system.dbo.copyaudit (copytime, copyuser, source, target, errmsg, errseverity) values( getdate(), user_name(user_id()), @source, @target, @errMsg, @errSeverity) if @debug = 1 print ( 'Message:' + @errMsg + ' Severity:' + convert(Char, @errSeverity) ) -- handle errors, return value if @errMsg <> '' begin if @raiseError = 1 raiserror(@errMsg, @errSeverity, 1) return 1 end return 0 END Thanks!

  • Use a certain select statement in a stored procedure depending on the Exec statement

  • SSIS - How do I see/set the field types in a Recordset?

    - by thursdaysgeek
I'm looking at an inherited SSIS package, and a stored procedure is sending records to a recordset called USER:NEW_RECORDS. It's of type Object, and the value is System.Object. It is then used for inputting that data to a SQL table. We're getting an error, because it seems that the numeric results of the stored procedure are being put in a DT_WSTR field, and then failing when it is then put into a decimal field in the database. Most of the records are working, but one, which happens to have a longer number of decimal digits, is failing. I want to see exactly what my SSIS recordset field types are, and probably change them, so I can force the data to be truncated properly and copied. Or, perhaps, I'm not even looking at this correctly. The data is put into the recordset using a SQL Task that executes the stored procedure.

    Alright so i am not even sure if this is possible I have a q_00 and q_01 and q_02 which are all in my stored procedure. then on the bottom i have 3 select statements that select a certain catagory for example Sales,Net Sales and INS sales What i want to be able to do is if the user types exec (name of my sp) (sales) (and a year which is the @yearparameter) it will run the sales select statement If they type Exec (name of my SP) netsales (@Yeartoget) it will show the net sales is this possible or do i need multiple stored procedures ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[casof] @YearToGet int, @mode VARCHAR(20) as ; with q_00 as ( select DIVISION , SDESCR , DYYYY , sum(APRICE) as asofSales , sum(PARTY) as asofPAX , sum(NetAmount) as asofNetSales , sum(InsAmount) as asofInsSales , sum(CancelRevenue) as asofCXSales , sum(OtherAmount) as asofOtherSales , sum(CXVALUE) as asofCXValue from dbo.B101BookingsDetails where Booked <= CONVERT(int,DateAdd(year, @YearToGet - Year(getdate()), DateAdd(day, DateDiff(day, 1, getdate()), 0))) and DYYYY = @YearToGet group by DIVISION, SDESCR, DYYYY ), q_01 as ( select DIVISION , SDESCR , DYYYY , sum(APRICE) as YESales , sum(PARTY) as YEPAX , sum(NetAmount) as YENetSales , sum(InsAmount) as YEInsSales , sum(CancelRevenue) as YECXSales , sum(OtherAmount) as YEOtherSales , sum(CXVALUE) as YECXValue from dbo.B101BookingsDetails where DYYYY=@YearToGet group by DIVISION, SDESCR, DYYYY ), q_02 as ( select DIVISION , SDESCR , DYYYY , sum(APRICE) as CurrentSales , sum(PARTY) as CurrentPAX , sum(NetAmount) as CurrentNetSales , sum(InsAmount) as CurrentInsSales , sum(CancelRevenue) as CurrentCXSales , sum(OtherAmount) as CurrentOtherSales , sum(CXVALUE) as CurrentCXValue from dbo.B101BookingsDetails where Booked <= CONVERT(int,DateAdd(year, (year( getdate() )) - Year(getdate()), DateAdd(day, DateDiff(day, 1, getdate()), 0))) and DYYYY = (year( getdate() )) group by DIVISION, SDESCR, DYYYY ) IF @mode = 'sales' select a.DIVISION , a.SDESCR , a.DYYYY , asofSales , asofPAX , YESales , YEPAX , CurrentSales , CurrentPAX , asofsales/ ISNULL(NULLIF(yesales,0),1) as percentsales , asofpax/yepax as percentpax ,currentsales/ISNULL(NULLIF((asofsales/ISNULL(NULLIF(yesales,0),1)),0),1) as projectedsales ,currentpax/ISNULL(NULLIF((asofpax/ISNULL(NULLIF(yepax,0),1)),0),1) as projectedpax from q_00 as a join q_01 as b on (b.DIVISION = a.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = a.SDESCR and b.DYYYY = a.DYYYY) join q_02 as c on (b.DIVISION = c.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = c.SDESCR) order by a.DIVISION, a.SDESCR, a.DYYYY ; else if @mode= 'netsales' select a.DIVISION , a.SDESCR , a.DYYYY , asofPAX , asofNetSales , YEPAX , YENetSales , CurrentPAX , CurrentNetSales , asofnetsales/ ISNULL(NULLIF(yenetsales,0),1) as percentnetsales , asofpax/yepax as percentpax ,currentnetsales/ISNULL(NULLIF((asofnetsales/ISNULL(NULLIF(yenetsales,0),1)),0),1) as projectednetsales ,currentpax/ISNULL(NULLIF((asofpax/ISNULL(NULLIF(yepax,0),1)),0),1) as projectedpax from q_00 as a join q_01 as b on (b.DIVISION = a.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = a.SDESCR and b.DYYYY = a.DYYYY) join q_02 as c on (b.DIVISION = c.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = c.SDESCR) order by a.DIVISION, a.SDESCR, a.DYYYY ; ELSE IF @mode = 'inssales' select a.DIVISION , a.SDESCR , a.DYYYY , asofPAX , asofInsSales , YEPAX , YEInsSales , CurrentPAX , CurrentInsSales , asofinssales/ ISNULL(NULLIF(yeinssales,0),1) as percentsales , asofpax/yepax as percentpax ,currentinssales/ISNULL(NULLIF((asofinssales/ISNULL(NULLIF(yeinssales,0),1)),0),1) as projectedinssales from q_00 as a join q_01 as b on (b.DIVISION = a.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = a.SDESCR and b.DYYYY = a.DYYYY) join q_02 as c on (b.DIVISION = c.DIVISION and b.SDESCR = c.SDESCR) order by a.DIVISION, a.SDESCR, a.DYYYY ;

  • varchar comparison in SQL Server

    - by Ram
I am looking for some SQL varchar comparison function like C# string.compare (we can ignore case for now, should return zero when the character expression are same and a non zero expression when they are different) Basically I have some alphanumeric column in one table which needs to be verified in another table. I cannot do select A.col1 - B.col1 from (query) as "-" operator cannot be applied on character expressions I cannot cast my expression as int (and then do a difference/subtraction) as it fails select cast ('ASXT000R' as int) Conversion failed when converting varchar 'ASXT000R' to int Soundex would not do it as soundex is same for 2 similar strings Difference would not do it as select difference('abc','ABC') = 4 (as per msdn, difference is the difference in the soundex of 2 character expressions and difference =4 implies least different) Is there any other way of doing it ?
