• Determining when a sound above a certain frequency is played on iPhone

  I'm wondering what's the easiest/best way to determine if a sound, being recorded on the iPhone mic, is above a certain frequency. My guess is that I would need to use the Audio Queue Services since I don't need to record the audio to a file. I'm using SDK 4.0, so I can use the FFT functions in the Accelerate framework if needed.

• Efficiently finding the shortest path in large graphs

  I'm looking to find a way to in real-time find the shortest path between nodes in a huge graph. It has hundreds of thousands of vertices and millions of edges. I know this question has been asked before and I guess the answer is to use a breadth-first search, but I'm more interested in to know what software you can use to implement it. For example, it would be totally perfect if it already exist a library (with python bindings!) for performing bfs in undirected graphs.

I guess i can change my code testdb but i would like to know.   Not quite sure whether I'm using the right terminology here, but Netbeans has a very nice feature where e.g. if you start typing for it will offer to write a code fragment looping over an array or list, basing it on the name and type of an array or list variable actually in scope. If more than one such variable is in scope it will guess, sometimes correctly and sometimes not. Is there a way to aim this feature at the correct array/list variable?

• Python: Converting legacy string dates to dates

  We have some legacy string dates that I need to convert to actual dates that can be used to perform some date logic. Converting to a date object isn't a problem if I knew what the format were! That is, some people wrote 'dd month yy', othes 'mon d, yyyy', etc. So, I was wondering if anybody knew of a py module that attempts to guess date formats and rewrites them in a uniform way? • PAM authentication problem

  I am using this module to authenticate using pam: http://code.google.com/p/web2py/source/browse/gluon/contrib/pam.py I can call authenticate('username','password') and it returns True/ False. It works for any 'username' but 'root'. My guess is that there is a security restriction in PAM that does not allow to check for the root password. I need to be able to check the root password. Is there anything I can change in the pam.conf or somewhere else to remove this restriction?

  If I use .reserve(items) on a vector, the vector will allocate enough memory for my guess of the number of items that I'll need. If I later on use .clear(), will that just clear the vector or save my earlier defined reserve? thanks.
