How to get the driver and setup info for a phone from a winxp machine which has the config so it can be installed on another xp machine which doesn't ?
I was using my EEE PC 1000H running Windows XP and out of the blue, the keyboard stopped working - pressing keys does absolutely nothing. It does not appear to be a hardware issue, as I am able to enter BIOS configuration with no issues.
I've tried:
'Safe mode'
'Last known good configuration'
Reinstalling the generic keyboard driver
Removing all power sources and holding down the power button, as suggested by popular forums.
What could the problem be, and what could I try?
I'm using Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8, and occasionally one off my favorites (Link) folders will get a very small box in the upper right corner (on the favorites menu drop down itself) and not open at all. I can't figure out how it got there or how to disable it, and I have to completely shut IE down and restart it to get rid of it.
Any clues on what's going on?
A friend just bought a netbook (HP mini 110) with Windows XP but it was the one used for testing in the store (the last one on storage) so it's somewhat filled with stuff from people testing the machine.
How should I go about restoring the system to a ?
As a first step I'm going to create a new User account and delete the old one (from the store).
How do we change the name It's registered to?
What other things should I take in account?
I want to install Win Xp on my Ideapad Z 570 laptop but i always get blue screen with message with some drive related problem which asks me to run CHKDSK command. I tried with that but no luck. Is there any way i can install Win Xp with SP 2 ?
Edit: i searched across the sites and came to know there could be some Compatibility problems, and i could fix it by setting HDD mode to IDE; will it solve the problem?
I ran across a situation at work the other day where we were trying to move a pile of .url files on a Windows XP machine to bookmarks under Firefox on Mac OS X 10.5.8. It proved very frustrating, as we didn't have access to the source machine anymore (where we could have exported the bookmarks properly).
Does anyone have a solution for that one?
Whenever I plug in my iPhone into my work computer Word 2007 decides it wants to start up.
How do I make it stop? Is it a registry deal, or is there an Windows interface that I'm unaware of. I'm on Win XP SP3 by the way.
Thanks
I cant open codinghorror.com in any of my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome).
Chrome gives this error msg:
Error 109
(net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE):
Unknown error
What could be the problem? Im running Win XP if that matters.
Do I have to install WGA Notifications to receive all Microsoft updates? I currently don't have it on my hard drive, and I get a notification from Microsoft Update urging me to validate my copy of Windows XP. If I don't validate my copy, I don't get all updates. When I click the link however, I get an ActiveX error message. (Yes, I'm doing this in IE8.)
Could this have something to do with my decision not to install WGA Notifications?
While accessing the server, the error comes:
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.
I am logging in from Administrator in XP machine, able to access server from other machines. Is there any problem with administrator profile??

I have a problem with my computer turning on automatically. The power switch lights up and the fan keeps running. After a while, a single beep will be heard every minute or so but nothing will display on the monitor. In some cases it will completely turn on and suddenly shut off.
What is the problem and how can I fix it? This is a desktop computer running Windows XP.
I just downloaded a Windows 7 iso from MSDNAA at school and they gave me a personal key. I'd like to add a file with my key onto the disc, but it has to remain bootable.
Is there a really simple way to do this, or one that doesn't require some shareware?
I'm using XP right now, or any solution under ubuntu is fine.
My users are running on windows XP 32bit. normally WSUS automatically download and notify them to select which update want to install in the past they were in local administrator rights, now I reduce them to user rights so now they can't see the yellow notification said updated are available.
Is there a way to give users permission to see the yellow notification and they can select updates by hand without local admin rights or power users?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Hi there,
I have running a Windows XP SP3 Machine and I can't login after I have locked my Workstation. I changed my password and installed last Updates from Microsoft last Friday.
When Windows comes up, there is no problem to login. But after I locked it, it tells me that my password is wrong.
I pushed the client again into the domain, but doesn't help.
Thanks,
cyntaxx
I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom).
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?
Hey all,
I'm in need of some software that will allow me to make annotations on the screen to ease the frustration of using a piece of low-quality software to verify some data. I've tried a few programs out, but so far none of them have one essential feature: I must be able to switch between the annotation software and the program without losing the annotations that I've previously made. Every program so far has cleared my annotations when I switch out and then back in to it.
Running Windows XP.
Thanks for any help,
How can I identify the source of recent remote desktop connections to my computer?
While at work I connected to my desktop there (XP SP3) from another system with files I want to access. I am now at home and connected to my desktop at work but I do not know the name of the other system there.
So I formatted my windows XP and reinstalled it. But forsome reason my drivers disk is for the wrong Dell Model.....
So I can't connect to the internet because I think I'm missing the ethernet driver. Am i screwed or can I obtain theses drivers elsewhere....
I have always swapped CapsLock and L-Ctrl. I'd like to now swap Esc with the Tilde/Backtick keys.
What Windows (XP) registry setting do I use for scancode to ensure both of those keys are appropriately swapped?
In Excel 2007, when I click a hyperlink, it opens in IE.
I'm running XP Professional SP3.
Firefox is set as my default browser. Links in Word and Outlook open in Firefox. But Excel opens them in IE. Anyone know how to fix it?
Edit:
Process Explorer shows the command line for IE to be
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -Embedding
Thanks!
