  • CentOS 6 and Sun/Oracle Java Issue

    I have a OpenVZ VPS running CentOS 6.3 64 bit and when I try to install JRE 7 64bit using the command: rpm -Uvh java.rpm It gives me this error: Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:jre ########################################### [100%] Unpacking JAR files... rt.jar... Program will exit. Why does this happen if I have more than enough RAM on the VPS to run this (1GB)? Could it be an issue with the host node of the VPS? • Is it possible to repair a Cisco 3500 XL (3548) switch with POST Error messages?

    - by Alex
    I've got an old Cisco 3500 XL, and it seems to have hardware issues. I've loaded the latest IOS and cleared all config. Does anyone have any experience fixing the switch core? I'm a reasonably competent SMD solderer, can I replace/reflow some chips? I've checked the power supply voltages and it's all within tolerance, and no visible signs of any component damage. Some chips are hot to the touch. I understand that these were EOL as of 2007, but should have a lifetime warranty for the electronics. I don't have a Cisco support contract, so I can't file a ticket. What should I do? • Unable to build my c++ code with g++ 4.6.3

    - by Mriganka
    I am facing multiple issues with building my c++ code on Ubuntu 12.04. This code was building and running fine on RH Enterprise. I am using g++ 4.6.3. Here's the output of g++ -v. g++ -v Using built-in specs. COLLECT_GCC=g++ COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/usr/lib/gcc/i686-linux-gnu/4.6/lto-wrapper Target: i686-linux-gnu Configured with: ../src/configure -v --with-pkgversion='Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5' --with-bugurl=file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-4.6/README.Bugs --enable-languages=c,c++,fortran,objc,obj-c++ --prefix=/usr --program-suffix=-4.6 --enable-shared --enable-linker-build-id --with-system-zlib --libexecdir=/usr/lib --without-included-gettext --enable-threads=posix --with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/include/c++/4.6 --libdir=/usr/lib --enable-nls --with-sysroot=/ --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-libstdcxx-debug --enable-libstdcxx-time=yes --enable-gnu-unique-object --enable-plugin --enable-objc-gc --enable-targets=all --disable-werror --with-arch-32=i686 --with-tune=generic --enable-checking=release --build=i686-linux-gnu --host=i686-linux-gnu --target=i686-linux-gnu Thread model: posix gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) Here's a sample of my code: #include "Word.h" #include < string> using namespace std; pthread_mutex_t Word::_lock = PTHREAD_MUTEX_INITIALIZER; Word::Word(): _occurrences(1) { memset(_buf, 0, 25); } Word::Word(char *str): _occurrences(1) { memset(_buf, 0, 25); if (str != NULL) { strncpy(_buf, str, strlen(str)); } } g++ -c -ansi or g++ -c -std=c++98 or g++ -c -std=c++03, none of these options are able to build the code correctly. I get the following compilation errors: mriganka@ubuntu:~/WordCount$ make g++ -c -g -ansi Word.cpp -o Word.o Word.cpp: In constructor ‘Word::Word()’: Word.cpp:10:21: error: ‘memset’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp: In constructor ‘Word::Word(char*)’: Word.cpp:16:21: error: ‘memset’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp:19:34: error: ‘strlen’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp:19:35: error: ‘strncpy’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp: In member function ‘void Word::operator=(const Word&)’: Word.cpp:37:42: error: ‘strlen’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp:37:43: error: ‘strncpy’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp: In copy constructor ‘Word::Word(const Word&)’: Word.cpp:44:21: error: ‘memset’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp:45:52: error: ‘strlen’ was not declared in this scope Word.cpp:45:53: error: ‘strncpy’ was not declared in this scope So basically g++ 4.6.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 is not able to recognize the standard c++ headers. And I am not finding a way out of this situation. Second problem: In order to make progress, I included < string.h instead of < string. But now I am facing linking errors with my message queue and pthread library functions. Here's the error that I am getting: mriganka@ubuntu:~/WordCount$ make g++ -c -g -ansi Word.cpp -o Word.o g++ -lrt -I/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu Word.o HashMap.o main.o -o word_count main.o: In function `main': /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:75: undefined reference to `pthread_create' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:90: undefined reference to `mq_open' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:93: undefined reference to `mq_getattr' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:113: undefined reference to `mq_send' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:123: undefined reference to `pthread_join' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:129: undefined reference to `mq_close' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:130: undefined reference to `mq_unlink' main.o: In function `count_words(void*)': /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:151: undefined reference to `mq_open' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:154: undefined reference to `mq_getattr' /home/mriganka/WordCount/main.cpp:162: undefined reference to `mq_timedreceive' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Here's my makefile: CC=g++ CFLAGS=-c -g -ansi LDFLAGS=-lrt INC=-I/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu SOURCES=Word.cpp HashMap.cpp main.cpp OBJECTS=$(SOURCES:.cpp=.o) EXECUTABLE=word_count all: $(SOURCES) $(EXECUTABLE) $(EXECUTABLE): $(OBJECTS) $(CC) $(LDFLAGS) $(INC) -pthread $(OBJECTS) -o $@ .cpp.o: $(CC) $(CFLAGS) $< -o $@ clean: rm -f *.o word_count Please help me to resolve both the issues. I searched online relentlessly for any solution of these problems, but no one seems to have encountered these issues.

  • SQL SERVER – Shard No More – An Innovative Look at Distributed Peer-to-peer SQL Database

    - by pinaldave
    There is no doubt that SQL databases play an important role in modern applications. In an ideal world, a single database can handle hundreds of incoming connections from multiple clients and scale to accommodate the related transactions. However the world is not ideal and databases are often a cause of major headaches when applications need to scale to accommodate more connections, transactions, or both. In order to overcome scaling issues, application developers often resort to administrative acrobatics, also known as database sharding. Sharding helps to improve application performance and throughput by splitting the database into two or more shards. Unfortunately, this practice also requires application developers to code transactional consistency into their applications. Getting transactional consistency across multiple SQL database shards can prove to be very difficult. Sharding requires developers to think about things like rollbacks, constraints, and referential integrity across tables within their applications when these types of concerns are best handled by the database. It also makes other common operations such as joins, searches, and memory management very difficult. In short, the very solution implemented to overcome throughput issues becomes a bottleneck in and of itself. What if database sharding was no longer required to scale your application? Let me explain. For the past several months I have been following and writing about NuoDB, a hot new SQL database technology out of Cambridge, MA. NuoDB is officially out of beta and they have recently released their first release candidate so I decided to dig into the database in a little more detail. Their architecture is very interesting and exciting because it completely eliminates the need to shard a database to achieve higher throughput. Each NuoDB database consists of at least three or more processes that enable a single database to run across multiple hosts. These processes include a Broker, a Transaction Engine and a Storage Manager.  Brokers are responsible for connecting client applications to Transaction Engines and maintain a global view of the network to keep track of the multiple Transaction Engines available at any time. Transaction Engines are in-memory processes that client applications connect to for processing SQL transactions. Storage Managers are responsible for persisting data to disk and serving up records to the Transaction Managers if they don’t exist in memory. The secret to NuoDB’s approach to solving the sharding problem is that it is a truly distributed, peer-to-peer, SQL database. Each of its processes can be deployed across multiple hosts. When client applications need to connect to a Transaction Engine, the Broker will automatically route the request to the most available process. Since multiple Transaction Engines and Storage Managers running across multiple host machines represent a single logical database, you never have to resort to sharding to get the throughput your application requires. NuoDB is a new pioneer in the SQL database world. They are making database scalability simple by eliminating the need for acrobatics such as sharding, and they are also making general administration of the database simpler as well.  Their distributed database appears to you as a user like a single SQL Server database.  With their RC1 release they have also provided a web based administrative console that they call NuoConsole. This tool makes it extremely easy to deploy and manage NuoDB processes across one or multiple hosts with the click of a mouse button. See for yourself by downloading NuoDB here. • Unity GUI not in build, but works fine in editor

    - by Darren
    I have: GUITexture attached to an object A script that has GUIStyles created for the Textfield and Buttons that are created in OnGUI(). This script is attached to the same object in number 1 3 GUIText objects each separate from the above. A script that enables the GUITexture and the script in number 1 and 2 respectively This is how it is supposed to work: When I cross the finish line, number 4 script enables number 1 GUITexture component and number 2 script component. The script component uses one of number 3's GUIText objects to show you your best lap time, and also makes a GUI.Textfield for name entry and 2 GUI.Buttons for "Submit" and "Skip". If you hit "Submit" the script will submit the time. No matter which button you press, The remaining 2 GUIText objects from number 3 will show you the top 10 best times. For some reason, when I run it in editor, everything works 100%, but when I'm in different kinds of builds, the results vary. When I am in a webplayer, The GUITexture and the textfield and buttons appear, but the textfield and buttons are plain and have no evidence of GUIStyles. When I click one of the buttons, the score gets submitted but I do not get the fastest times showing. When I am in a standalone build, the GUITexture shows up, but nothing else does. If I remove the GUIStyle parameter of the GUI.Textfield and GUI.Button, they show up. Why am I getting these variations and how can I fix it? Code below: void Start () { Names.text = ""; Times.text = ""; YourBestTime.text = "Your Best Lap: " + bestTime + "\nEnter your name:"; //StartCoroutine(GetTimes("Test")); } void Update() { if (!ShowButtons && !GettingTimes) { StartCoroutine(GetTimes()); GettingTimes = true; } } IEnumerator GetTimes () { Debug.Log("Getting times"); YourBestTime.text = "Loading Best Lap Times"; WWW times_get = new WWW(GetTimesUrl); yield return times_get; WWW names_get = new WWW(GetNamesUrl); yield return names_get; if(times_get.error != null || names_get.error != null) { print("There was an error retrieiving the data: " + names_get.error + times_get.error); } else { Times.text = times_get.text; Names.text = names_get.text; YourBestTime.text = "Your Best Lap: " + bestTime; } } IEnumerator PostLapTime (string Name, string LapTime) { string hash= MD5.Md5Sum(Name + LapTime + secretKey); string bestTime_url = SubmitTimeUrl + "&Name=" + WWW.EscapeURL(Name) + "&LapTime=" + LapTime + "&hash=" + hash; Debug.Log (bestTime_url); // Post the URL to the site and create a download object to get the result. WWW hs_post = new WWW(bestTime_url); //label = "Submitting..."; yield return hs_post; // Wait until the download is done if (hs_post.error != null) { print("There was an error posting the lap time: " + hs_post.error); //label = "Error: " + hs_post.error; //show = false; } else { Debug.Log("Posted: " + hs_post.text); ShowButtons = false; PostingTime = false; } } void OnGUI() { if (ShowButtons) { //makes text box nameString = GUI.TextField( new Rect((Screen.width/2)-111, (Screen.height/2)-130, 222, 25), nameString, 20, TextboxStyle); if (GUI.Button( new Rect( (Screen.width/2-74.0f), (Screen.height/2)- 90, 64, 32), "Submit", ButtonStyle)) { //SUBMIT TIME if (nameString == "") { nameString = "Player"; } if (!PostingTime) { StartCoroutine(PostLapTime(nameString, bestTime)); PostingTime = true; } } else if (GUI.Button( new Rect( (Screen.width/2+10.0f), (Screen.height/2)- 90, 64, 32), "Skip", ButtonStyle)) { ShowButtons = false; } } } }

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Hp G72 Problem Installing proprietary wireless driver

    - by user69402
    I have a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 installed on HP G72 machine. In order for my wireless to work I need the proprietary driver installed - Broadcom STA wireless driver. Trying to install it from the System Settings gives me the error: "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log". So far I suspect the error to be caused by the bad "bcmwl-kernel-source" installation. What i tried: 1. remove "bcmwl-kernel-source" 2. install "bcmwl-kernel-source" installation through the terminal ends with "error code (1)". I would greatly appreciate any help Here is everything that the terminal returns: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... • How to deal with the need to know multiple programming languages? When to stop learning new languages?

    - by Raphael
    I am a relatively young programmer. I am 23 and I have been programming professionally for about 5 years. As most programmers I started with C, learned some x86 assembly for fun and then I found C++ which turned out to be my greatest passion in the programming world. Programming with C and C++ forces you to learn platform specific APIs, libs and frameworks all of each requires constant study and experimentation. After some time I had to move on to Java and C# as the demand on my region is basically for these languages. With these languages I entered the world of web development and then I had to learn javascript. Developing for the .NET Framework was exciting at first but I constantly felt as I was getting tied up by Microsoft (and of course the .NET Framework was driving me away from Linux). For desktop development I could do pretty much everything I did with .NET using C++ with Qt but for web development I had to look for an alternative. Quickly I found Django and then I proceeded to learn Python so I could use Django. Nowadays I am learning iOS development with Objective-C. So far it was pretty much easy to learn all these languages (C++ trained me well) but I am worried that someday I won't be able to keep track of them all. Just to clarify. The only languages I learned cause I had to were C# and Java. All of the others I learned for fun, because I love programming and learning new things. Also I like to keep my skills sharp on desktop, web and mobile development. My question is: How do you keep track of multiple programming languages? (I mean, keep track of changes to these languages and keep your skills sharp) and: Is there such a thing as enough programming languages?

  • C#.NET: How to update multiple .NET pages when a particular event occurs in one .Net page? In another words how to use Observer pattern(Publish and subscribe to events)

    Problem: Suppose you have a scenario in which you have to update multiple pages when an event occurs in main page. For example imagine you have a main page where you are dispalying a tab control. This tab control has 3 tab pages where you are loading 3 different user controls. On click of an update button in main page imagine if you have do something in all the 3 tab panels. • Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source

    - by SuperFurryToad
    The following error is preventing me from cloning a Windows 7 64bit computer. Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code: 2147754754 (0x80042302) I'm using VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone Client 4.0.1. Any ideas on what might be causing this? When I checked the services running, I noticed that the Volume Shadow Copy Service was set to manual. So I started the service and switched it to automatic. It still didn't work after that. I checked the event logs and I got the following errors: Event ID: 22 Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This might happened if an error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of a Shadow Copy provider. The error returned from CoCreateInstance on class with CLSID {e579ab5f-1cc4-44b4-bed9-de0991ff0623} and Name IVssCoordinatorEx2 is [0x80040154, Class not registered Event ID: 8193 Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040154, Class not registered

  • How to resolve "svn: Can't find a temporary directory: Internal error"?

    - by HorusKol
    I have already googled the message, and I have plenty of disk space available on the SVN server (it's about 4% usage of 150 GB). I have noticed that when I try echo $TMPDIR at the command prompt on the SVN server I get nothing. What is making this a little confusing is that I only get this message from one location when I do an svn diff (that I've tested so far) - this error is not coming up when I try from three other computers (one of which is testing against the exact same repository, the other two are different repositories on the same svn server). About the only difference I can see is that the broken working copy is connecting to the server by an IP address where all the others are using a server name (although this resolves over DNS to the same IP Address). I'm hoping that I don't have to scratch the broken working copy and checkout a new one - unfortunately, this is a legacy project and not all changes have been properly revisioned.

  • git on HTTP with gitolite and nginx

    - by Arnaud
    I am trying to setup a server where my git repo would be accessible with HTTP(S). I am using gitolite and nginx (and gitlab for web interface but I doubt it makes any difference). I have searched the whole afternoon and I think I'm stuck. I have think I have understood that nginx needs fcgiwrap to work with gitolite, so I tried several configurations, but none of them work. My repositories are at /home/git/repositories. Here's the three nginx configurations I have tried. 1: location ~ /git(/.*) { gzip off; root /usr/lib/git-core; fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/fcgiwrap.socket; include /etc/nginx/fcgiwrap.conf; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /usr/lib/git-core/git-http-backend; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_ROOT /usr/lib/git-core/; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_NAME git-http-backend; fastcgi_param GIT_HTTP_EXPORT_ALL ""; fastcgi_param GIT_PROJECT_ROOT /home/git/repositories; fastcgi_param PATH_INFO $1; #fastcgi_param PATH_TRANSLATED $document_root$fastcgi_path_info; } Result: > git clone http://myservername/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... fatal: http://myservername/projectname.git/info/refs not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server? and > git clone http://myservername/git/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... error: The requested URL returned error: 502 while accessing http://myservername/git/projectname.git/info/refs fatal: HTTP request failed 2: location ~ /git(/.*) { fastcgi_pass localhost:9001; include /etc/nginx/fcgiwrap.conf; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /usr/lib/git-core/git-http-backend; fastcgi_param GIT_HTTP_EXPORT_ALL ""; fastcgi_param GIT_PROJECT_ROOT /home/git/repositories; fastcgi_param PATH_INFO $1; } Result: > git clone http://myservername/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... fatal: http://myservername/projectname.git/info/refs not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server? and > git clone http://myservername/git/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... error: The requested URL returned error: 502 while accessing http://myservername/git/projectname.git/info/refs fatal: HTTP request failed 3: location ~ ^.*\.git/objects/([0-9a-f]+/[0-9a-f]+|pack/pack-[0-9a-f]+.(pack|idx))$ { root /home/git/repositories/; } location ~ ^.*\.git/(HEAD|info/refs|objects/info/.*|git-(upload|receive)-pack)$ { root /home/git/repositories; fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/fcgiwrap.socket; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /usr/lib/git-core/git-http-backend; fastcgi_param PATH_INFO $uri; fastcgi_param GIT_PROJECT_ROOT /home/git/repositories; include /etc/nginx/fcgiwrap.conf; } Result: > git clone http://myservername/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... error: The requested URL returned error: 502 while accessing http://myservername/projectname.git/info/refs fatal: HTTP request failed and > git clone http://myservername/git/projectname.git test/ Cloning into test... error: The requested URL returned error: 502 while accessing http://myservername/git/projectname.git/info/refs fatal: HTTP request failed Also note that with any of those configurations, when I try to clone with a project name that actually doesn't exist, I get a 502 error. I can go to the Server 2008 box and double click on the link in explorer to open the target file. What I cannot do though is use FileCreateW to get a handle to the UNC path link (from the Vista box). When I try it, it fails and GetLastError() returns error code 1463 (0x5B7), which is: The symbolic link cannot be followed because its type is disabled. Can anyone tell me how to enable its "type" in Server 2008 (assuming the error means what it says)?

  • Exchange 2010 periodically stops responding to SMTP events with error 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out

    - by Michael Shimmins
    After some help diagnosing why Exchange 2010 Enterprise stops responding to SMTP events. I can't find a pattern to it. It doesn't appear to be an actual timeout, as the server responds immediately with the error. To reproduce it I telnet into the server on port 25 and issue a EHLO. The server immediately replies with the 421: 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out Once this starts happening I've found restarting the exchange box is the only reliable way to get it flowing again. Sometimes restarting the Transport service or the mailbox attendant service seems to fix it, but this could be coincidental as it often has no effect.

  • "Could not authenticate you." -error when using Twitter OAuth.

    - by Martti Laine
    Hello I'm building my first system using Twitters OAuth and have some issues. First, I'm using Abraham's Twitter-class for this and I have followed this tutorial. However, I get these lines on my callback.php: Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #2 is not an array in C:\xampp\htdocs\twitter\twitterOAuth\OAuth.php on line 301 Warning: strtoupper() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in C:\xampp\htdocs\twitter\twitterOAuth\OAuth.php on line 373 Oops - an error has occurred. SimpleXMLElement Object ( [request] => /account/verify_credentials.xml [error] => Could not authenticate you. ) Is this problem by Twitter-class, or am I doing something wrong? I have my Consumer Key and Consumer Secret in config.php as tutorial says, but should I store something else? Martti Laine

    Hello I am getting following error while attempting to run the Management Portal for ESB Toolkit 2.0: Event Type: Warning Event Source: ENTSSO Event Category: Enterprise Single Sign-On Event ID: 10536 Description: SSO AUDIT Function: GetConfigInfo (SSOProperties) Application Name: ESB Toolkit.exceptionHandling Error Code: 0xC0002A04, The application does not exist I am using SSO config store for the ESB Config. However, looking in the esb.config file, there is no section, like there is for the other esb SSO applications. Why might this section (and therefore the SSO app) be missing? How can I set it up? Thanks for any help with this Andrew

  • TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor. on port to Flex 4

    - by Josh Handel
    I have been porting an app from Flex 3.4.x to 4.0.. I have successfully ported the app and its libraries to flex 4.0, I've also removed ALL the references to http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx in any of my mxml files... In short I "think" I have moved everything over to the new mx framework (2009).. But I still get the following error (which never happend in 3.4 or 3.5 with this same app) when I try to run my flex app. TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor. at mx.preloaders::Preloader/initialize()[E:\dev\4.0.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\preloaders\Preloader.as:253] at mx.managers::SystemManager/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::initialize()[E:\dev\4.0.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\managers\SystemManager.as:1925] at mx.managers::SystemManager/initHandler()[E:\dev\4.0.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\managers\SystemManager.as:2419] At this point I am completely stumped.. anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  • WSDLException : An error occurred trying to resolve schema referenced at ...

    Hello i'm trying to generate a proxy class from a local wsdl file with eclipse Galileo and axis 2 1.4 on windows xp . My problem is that i get an error due to an imported schema inside the wsdl . In fact i can download the file from the browser without problems. There's an option to specify a proxy to wsdl2java or someone has resolved this issue ? For the moment i've downloaded the xsd, added it to the project and changed the wsdl to include the relative file (instead of the remote one) , but i'd prefer to avoid this , because the file is a third party service wsdl. thank you in advance for any hint Stefano
