    I sometimes use the following site to look at browser and OS trends http://gs.statcounter.com/. It got me thinking about how the iPad is going to be classified, as a mobile platform or a desktop platform, or is it going to spark a new category. Since it runs iPhone OS, it could be considered a mobile device, but I have a hard time with that because of the screen size. What should iPad be classified as: Mobile, Desktop, or Other (Try to come up with a good name for Other)?

Anyone recommend using a 3rd party service I can install on the server that integrated easily with .NET, or just build one using polling method?   • Redirect 'myapp.com' to 'www.myapp.com' in rails without using htaccess?

    Using Morph Labs' Appspace to deploy a site means no automated way to redirect 'myapp.com' to 'www.myapp.com' (and no access to .htacess). Is there an in-rails way to do this? Would I need a plugin like subdomain-fu? More specifically, I'm trying to do something like: 'myapp.com' = 'www.myapp.com' 'myapp.com/session/new' = 'www.myapp.com/session/new' Basically, I always want the 'www' subdomain prepended on every request (because the SSL cert specifically has a common name of 'www.myapp.com').

  • Using jQuery to find and then reformat a date string

    Hello, I currently am displaying dates as follows "yyyy/mm/dd" in a wordpress blog (it needs to be input in this format because a plugin is using it to define a post expiration date). I want to use jQuery to locate all of these strings on a page (they're all in table cells) and reformat them to "mm.dd.yy" The site is: http://www.beattrainsoundsystem.com/category/gigs The dates also exist in the footer on every page which I would also like to change. I'm aware that DA has plenty of software, but only related to customisations and UI hacks.   • How to get jQuery to work with Prototype

    Ok so here is the situation. Been pulling my hair out on this one. I'm a noob at this. Only been using rails for about 6 weeks. I'm using the standard setup package, and my code leverages prototype helpers heavily. Like I said, noob ;) So I'm trying to put in some jQuery effects, like PrettyPhoto. But what happens is that when the page is first loaded, PrettyPhoto works great. However, once someone uses a Prototype helper, like a link created with link_to_remote, Prettyphoto stops working. I've tried jRails, all of the fixes proposed on the JQuery site to stop conflicts... http://docs.jquery.com/Using_jQuery_with_Other_Libraries ...even done some crazy things likes renaming all of the $ in prototype.js to $$$ to no avail. Either the prototype helpers break, or jQuery breaks. Seems nothing I do can get these to work together. Any ideas?     I have no clue of where to start on this. I've never done any NLP and only programmed in a Python 3.1, which I have to use. I'm looking at the site http://www.linkedin.com and I have to gather all of the public profiles and some of them have very fake names, like 'aaaaaa k dudujjek' and I've been told I can use NLP to find the real names, where would I even start?

  • Installing my sdist from PyPI puts the files in the wrong places

My problem is that when I upload my Python package to PyPI, and then install it from there using pip, my app breaks because it installs my files into completely different locations than when I simply install the exact same package from a local sdist. Installing from the local sdist puts files on my system like this: /Python27/ Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) gloopy/ (source) This is much as I'd expect, and works fine (e.g. my source can find my data dir, because they lie next to each other, just like they do in development.) If I upload the same sdist to PyPI and then install it from there, using pip, then things look very different: /Python27/ data/ (images and shader source) doc/ (html) Lib/ site-packages/ gloopy-0.1.alpha-py2.7.egg/ (egg and install info files) gloopy/ (source files) examples/ (.py scripts that use the library) This doesn't work at all - my app can't find its data files, plus obviously it's a mess, polluting the top-level /python27 directory with all my junk. What am I doing wrong? How do I make the pip install behave like the local sdist install? Is that even what I should be trying to achieve? Details I have setuptools installed, and also distribute, and I'm calling distribute_setup.use_setuptools() WindowsXP, Python2.7. My development directory looks like this: /gloopy /data (image files and GLSL shader souce read at runtime) /doc (html files) /examples (some scripts to show off the library) /gloopy (the library itself) My MANIFEST.in mentions all the files I want to be included in the sdist, including everything in the data, examples and doc directories: recursive-include data *.* recursive-include examples *.py recursive-include doc/html *.html *.css *.js *.png include LICENSE.txt include TODO.txt My setup.py is quite verbose, but I guess the best thing is to include it here, right?     Hi All I'm using this script on my site - http://www.suuronen.org/esa-matti/projects/panfullsize/ Got it all working fine, only problem is that it always defaults to the zoomed image when you load a page. I'd rather it showed the scaled down image first, and then zoomed when requested. Anyone know how I can fix it? Cheers Sam

This might sound confusing, so I'll describe what I'm looking to accomplish in a case based scenario, with steps: User visits application Thread starts Until the thread finishes, that user's server instance hangs Once the thread completes, a response is delivered to the user Other visitors to the site should not be affected by any other users using the application How can I accomplish something like this? If possible, I'd like to find a lightweight solution.

  • CSS layout problem on Firefox with filling space between end of left column and footer

    Basically, the left column is supposed to extend to the footer with the continuous red color. However, in Firefox on pages with lots of text, the column does not extend to the footer and leaves a large white gap--see site: http://library.luhs.org/JHSII/about.html I've tried readjusting the heights, creating the sticky footer, and other things I've read about on this site.   • Object Naming without Hungarian?

    Mostly because of reading this site, I'm trying to move away from Hungarian Notation. Or I guess the improper (system) Hungarian. I can figure out a better way to name most data types, but I don't know what to do with objects. What would be a good naming convention for objects? I use objRS for recordsets now. Would I just use rs?
