• How do I set a custom resolution in 12.04 with a nVidia video card (9600 GSO)?

  I have 32 bit 12.04 and my video card drivers are up to date at "304.64" yet my resolution appears capped at 1920x1080. I am trying to get the resolution to 2560x1440 or even higher, as I am running this machine on a 42" LCD through HDMI and the 1920x1080 resolution will not stretch to fit the screen and is therefore fairly zoomed in. The 9600 GSO supports up to 2560x1600, so this should be no problem for the card itself. I have tried using xrandr, which successfully creates the 2560x1440 60 hertz mode but does not allow me to --addmode or --output it in. I have tried working with the xorg.conf, but I actually can not find a way to create the file since when I try to, I am given an error message stating that the # of monitors I have does not match the # of screens I have. Can anyone provide some help or insight?

  I'm making a game that uses an Entity/Component architecture basically a port of Artemis's framework to c++,the problem arises when I try to make a PlayerControllerComponent, my original idea was this. class PlayerControllerComponent: Component { public: virtual void update() = 0; }; class FpsPlayerControllerComponent: PlayerControllerComponent { public: void update() { //handle input } }; and have a system that updates PlayerControllerComponents, but I found out that the artemis framework does not look at sub-classes the way I thought it would. So all in all my question here is should I make the framework aware of subclasses or should I add a new Component like object that is used for logic.

• How to find optimal path visit every node with parallel workers complicated by dynamic edge costs?

  Say you have an acyclic directed graph with weighted edges and create N workers. My goal is to calculate the optimal way those workers can traverse the entire graph in parralel. However, edge costs may change along the way. Example: A -1-> B A -2-> C B -3-> C (if A has already been visited) B -5-> C (if A has not already been visited) Does what I describe lend itself to a standard algorithmic approach, or alternately can someone suggest if I'm looking at this in an inherently flawed way (i have an intuition I might be)?

• Are nested classes under-rated?

  I'm not trying to say I know something everyone else doesn't but I've been solving more and more designs with the use of nested classes, so I'm curious to get a feeling for the acceptablilty of using this seemingly rarely used design mechanism. This leads me to the question: am I going down an inherintly bad path for reasons I'll discover when they come back to bite me, or are nested classes maybe something that are underrated? • iPhone UIButton addTarget:action:forControlEvents: not working

  I see there are similar problems posted here, but none of the solutions work for me. Here goes: I have a UIButton instance inside a UIView frame, which is positioned within another UIView frame, which is positioned in the main window UIView. To wit: UIWindow --> UIView (searchView) --> UISearchBar (findField) --> UIView (prevButtonView) --> UIButton (prevButton) --> UIView (nextButtonView) --> UIButton (nextButton) So far, so good: everything is laid out as I want it. However, the buttons aren't accepting user input of any kind. I am using the UIButton method addTarget:action:forControlEvents: and to give you an idea of what I'm doing, here's my code for nextButton: nextButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_on.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_off.png"] forState:UIControlStateDisabled]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_off.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; [nextButton addTarget:self action:@selector(nextResult:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; The method nextResult: never gets called, the state of the button doesn't change on touching, and there's not a damned thing I've been able to do to get it working. I assume that there's an issue with all these layers of views: maybe something is sitting on top of my button, but I'm not sure what it could be. • Stringtemplate: is it ok to Apply Templates, in which HashMap uses, To Multi-Valued Attributes

  There is two template in my .stg file, and both of them apply on multi-value a HashMap. The HashMap is employed as an injected object. And I need those instance of HashMap can be injected for many times. My trouble is, when I switch to another template, ANTLR seems to consider the second HashMap as a List -- multipul objects and null value.   Hello: I'm tyring to remove lowercase sentence fragments from standard text files using regular expresions or a simple Perl oneliner. These are commonly referred to as speech or attribution tags, for example - he said, she said, etc. This example shows before and after using manual deletion: Original: "Ah, that's perfectly true!" exclaimed Alyosha. "Oh, do leave off playing the fool! Some idiot comes in, and you put us to shame!" cried the girl by the window, suddenly turning to her father with a disdainful and contemptuous air. "Wait a little, Varvara!" cried her father, speaking peremptorily but looking at them quite approvingly. "That's her character," he said, addressing Alyosha again. "Where have you been?" he asked him. "I think," he said, "I've forgotten something... my handkerchief, I think.... Well, even if I've not forgotten anything, let me stay a little." He sat down. Father stood over him. "You sit down, too," said he. All lower case sentence fragments manually removed: "Ah, that's perfectly true!" "Oh, do leave off playing the fool! Some idiot comes in, and you put us to shame!" "Wait a little, Varvara!" "That's her character," "Where have you been?" "I think," "I've forgotten something... my handkerchief, I think.... Well, even if I've not forgotten anything, let me stay a little." He sat down. Father stood over him. "You sit down, too," I've changed straight quotes " to balanced and tried: ” (...)+[.] Of course, this removes some fragments but deletes some text in balanced quotes and text starting with uppercase letters. • Methodology for a Rails app

  I'm undertaking a rather large conversion from a legacy database-driven Windows app to a Rails app. Because of the large number of forms and database tables involved, I want to make sure I've got the right methodology before getting too far. My chief concern is minimizing the amount of code I have to write. There are many models that interact together, and I want to make sure I'm using them correctly. Here's a simplified set of models: class Patient < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :PatientAddresses has_many :PatientFileStatuses end class PatientAddress < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :Patient end class PatientFileStatus < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :Patient end The controller determines if there's a Patient selected; everything else is based on that. In the view, I will be needing data from each of these models. But it seems like I have to write an instance variable in my controller for every attribute that I want to use. So I start writing code like this: @patient = Patient.find(session[:patient]) @patient_addresses = @patient.PatientAddresses @patient_file_statuses = @patient.PatientFileStatuses @enrollment_received_when = @patient_file_statuses[0].EnrollmentReceivedWhen @consent_received = @patient_file_statuses[0].ConsentReceived @consent_received_when = @patient_file_statuses[0].ConsentReceivedWhen The first three lines grab the Patient model and its relations. The next three lines are examples of my providing values to the view from one of those relations. The view has a combination of text fields and select fields to show the data above. For example: <%= select("patientfilestatus", "ConsentReceived", {"val1"="val1", "val2"="val2", "Written"="Written"}, :include_blank=true )% <%= calendar_date_select_tag "patient_file_statuses[EnrollmentReceivedWhen]", @enrollment_complete_when, :popup=:force % (BTW, the select tag isn't really working; I think I have to use collection_select?) My questions are: Do I have to manually declare the value of every instance variable in the controller, or can/should I do it within the view? What is the proper technique for displaying a select tag for data that's not the primary model? When I go to save changes to this form, will I have to manually pick out the attributes for each model and save them individually? • Mac OS X 10.6 Setup for Apache/MySQL/Perl

  I just got a new Mac and have been trying to setup a local development environment for my perl applications for a few days now with no luck. I'm getting no where fast so I hope someone else who has done this successfully could help. I started by installing MAMP which I thought would take care of everything for me but unfortunately it doesn't take care of some important perl modules. I used CPAN to install all our required modules except that it seems DBD::mysql doesn't install correctly through CPAN. • Configure Postfix to send emails "via" a server [migrated]

  This is a question related to postfix and WordPress (but is more of a postfix question). To give some background, on a professional WordPress host (like WP Engine) when I receive WordPress Mail Notifications (comments, form submissions, new users, etc...) it will say in gmail sent from "predefined wordpress admin email" via email.wpengine.com. This is not blocked by Google's spam filters or anything. I have a cloud server set up and a WordPress site installed on it. When I send email from [email protected] it gets sent to spam and when I send email as [email protected] (me) it fails to send completely. This does, however send fine on WordPress. This goal of this it so send all emails via mail.wptemple.com and have them not get caught by spam filters. How can I accomplish this?

• Connecting to a remote server through OpenVPN when local network subnet conflicts with remote network's subnet

  After connecting to a remote location via OpenVPN, I am trying to access a server on a network that exists on a subnet such as 10.0.1.0/24. However, the network I am trying to access this remote server from is on the same subnet: 10.0.1.0/24. I am unable to connect to my remote server via typing in its IP because of this conflict. I am unable to even access the public internet while connected to the VPN. Does anyone know how to mitigate this issue? I have access to the OpenVPN Access Server.

• Installing ImageMagick on Mac OSX 10.6

  I just got a new Mac and am trying to setup a local Perl development environment. I'm using MAMP but also need the ImageMagick perl module installed in order to do some of the photo processing our scripts require. I tried installing ImageMagick manually but ran into some issues and after reading online a lot of people reported having issues going this route. The general consensus was to install it using MacPorts instead so I went ahead and installed MacPorts. Unfortunately, MacPorts can't seem to install it successfully either.   I am working on a website that runs on WordPress. The an error occurs when accessing the blog page that it displays the RSS feed (in XML) rather than the posts. After some research I found out the when enabling mod_cache this error sometimes occurs. I see when looking at the apache2 modules enabled apache2ctl -M it shows that mod_cache, mod_mem_cache and mod_disc_cache are enabled. What should I disable in order to resolve this problem?

• Google Chrome Freezes ALL the time

  I'm running the most recent version of Google Chrome. I have had this computer for three weeks now with no problems, now today it just WON'T work for me. I am running windows 8 with a machine that can more than handle Chrome. It keeps freezing up literally every five seconds then it unfreezes. I cannot click links or scroll, but I can switch tabs. I have tried several things. Uninstalling Google Chrome Reinstalling Chrome but not logging in Deleting All plugins including Flash Creating a new user and accessing chrome from there This is insanely frustrating and would be forever indebted to whomever helped me solve this problem. • Are there any statistics on the number of networks using Ethernet Jumbo frames?

  I am often told by Sales Engineers and Product managers that a Layer 2 Ethernet service is not fit for purpose if the maximum supported frame size is in the 1518-1522 range (enough to support standard Ethernet frames or VLAN tagged frames). Or in other words: an MTU of 1500 is not enough (see this blog post for my definition of MTU and a short rant on how the term is often misused) I am never able to get any details from them on: a) What proportion of customers (Enterprise / SMB) require Jumbo frames b) What are typical expectations on frame size for Jumbos on WAN links? 1600, 2000, 9k, etc... I know that in Telco and Data Centre environments Jumbos are pretty common, but I am after some insight as to how common this is within Enterprise and SMB networks.

• Mirror/Backup from SSH/SFTP to Windows

  What I am trying to do is mirror a directory (recursively) from a server I can SSH/SFTP to, to a Windows machine. I want to do this as part of a script, so it can be automated. I only want to copy new or modified files. I don't want to have to download all the files every time the script runs. In other words, I'm trying to get the equivalent of RoboCopy /MIR that will work using SFTP as a source. What would you recommend?

• Debootstrap Ubuntu over NFS leads to mknod I/O error

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to prepare an Ubuntu environment for a diskless machine that will PXE boot and mount an NFS share as it's root. I've currently got another Ubuntu machine mounting the NFS share and I'm trying to debootstrap into it, but it has trouble creating devices over NFS: root@kimiko:~# mount | grep Seiuchi 192.168.0.203:/mnt/user/Seiuchi on /mnt type nfs (rw,addr=192.168.0.203) root@kimiko:~# debootstrap --arch i386 maverick /mnt http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ mknod: `/mnt/test-dev-null': Input/output error E: Cannot install into target '/mnt' mounted with noexec or nodev My NFS rule on the unRAID server is 192.168.0.201/32(rw,no_root_squash,sync). I don't have the noexec or nodev options set. I've not got much experience with NFS, so I'm probably missing something basic in the way I'm sharing this, but my attempts at Googling for an answer isn't really turning anything useful up. Does anyone have suggestions on what I might have missed or maybe relevant docs? • What are some good, IP Address Management solutions for IPv6? [closed]

  There are a number of open source IPAM tools available for IPv4 address management; however there seems to be a distinct lack of actively updated tools available for IPv6. Other than FreeIPdb (code no longer maintained) or the RIPE Database (I have seen some customisations to the RIPEdb that allow for enterprise/ISP IPAM but it seems like overkill for a system that will probably only ever handle one /32 worth of space). Are there any other options that I'm missing? (Database only please. I know vi can be used for flat text IPAM, that's how I'm handling our /32 at the moment, but I don't see it scaling for much longer) It doesn't have to be open source but what are folks doing to manage IPv6 in a dual stack environment

• Multiple public keys for one user

  This question is similar to SSH public key authentication - can one public key be used for multiple users? but it's the other way around. I'm experimenting on using ssh so any ssh server would work for your answers. Can I have multiple public keys link to the same user? What are the benefits of doing so? Also, can different home directories be set for different keys used (all of which link to the same user)? Please let me know if I'm unclear. Thanks.

• Windows 8.1 VPN Connection Crash

  I am attempting to connect to a VPN that I have used for quite some time. I followed these instructions to setup my VPN on both my desktop and my surface pro Both my desktop and surface pro have all of the current updates for Windows 8.1. However, my surface pro connects to the VPN without issue and my desktop crashes when I attempt to do ANYTHING VPN related. If I Attempt to connect to a VPN it freezes and crashes without error as soon as I hit connect Attempt to remove a VPN it freezes and crashes without error as soon as I hit remove Attempt to connect to a newly created VPN it freezes and crashes without error as soon as I hit connect I have tried disabling all Windows Firewall proticols. I have tried disabling the Windows Defender antimalware shenanigans I have no other antimalware, virus or firewalls on this machine. I am at a loss on how to fix this so any insight is appreciated.

• Seeking recommendations on resolving sporadic network connectivity latency for Notes client

  I have Domino servers in geographically disperse data centers in the U.S. Sometimes when I open an NSF on one of those servers the connection times out then when I open the NSF again it connects immediately. This has been going on for years and during that time I have upgraded and changed my own internet connection and moved servers to different data centers. Of course I have direct connection documents using fixed IP addresses. When I do a Notes client Trace nothing is out of the ordinary. My business partner experiences the same thing from an entirely different city and different ISP but to the same servers. Never have any trouble connecting to the HTTP server, just over port 1352. Does anyone have any recommendations on a process to determine what is causing this problem?
