  • Automatically updating routing table on server

    I have a LAN with three routers on it, one connected to the Internet, one VPN router connected to a few remote sites, and a final route connected to a private network (using BGP to get prefix advertisements). On the same LAN I have multiple Linux servers which needs access to the networks behind each router. I have achieved this by configuring static routes on the server, pointing the different network prefixes to the correct router. This has worked well, but every time we connect to a new remote VPN, we have to change all the servers to be aware that the network is now accessible via the VPN, and not via the default Internet route. What I want is a way to automatically update the routes on all of the servers, when the route is added to a routers. Now, I could install Quagga or something similar on all the servers to receive router advertisements, but that seems like overkill. So my question is what is the easiest/simpliest way to update the routing tables on the server automatically, and what protocol is best suited for this purpose. thanks

  • Office Communicator starts up automatically even though I disabled it

    The title says it all: I am trying desperately to keep OCS from starting automatically when I log in to Windows. The first and only thing I did was unchecking the "Automatically start Communicator when I log on to Windows" option. I can verify that it is still disabled, but OCS ignores that and starts up as soon as I log on to Windows. There is no OCS in the "Startup" folder, and the registry setting "AutoRunWhenLogonToWindows" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator is set to 0x00000000. I am using Office Communicator 2007 R2 on a Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010.

  • How to automatically move mail into appropriate folders - Outlook for Mac 2011

    Is there anyway to have emails automatically placed into folders where the original email resides? Situation: I sort my emails into various folders based on clients. However, when a new email comes in that was a reply to a previous it goes to my inbox versus going into the client folder. I know the typical answer is "just create a rule for that client". The problem with that is my clients change often, and creating a new rule that often is infeasible. I was hoping there might be some way to have a "follow source email" option. That way, when I move email A into folder X, all subsequent replies to email A will automatically be placed in folder X. Any ideas?

  • Windows 8 doesn't automatically join Wi-Fi network if Ethernet connection is active

    In Windows 7, my laptop would automatically join both an Ethernet network and the Wi-Fi network in my house (both going through the same router). In Windows 8, if the Ethernet connection is present, it doesn't join the Wi-Fi network at all. The reason I noticed this is that if Wi-Fi isn't active, I don't see my AirPlay speakers. My wireless printer is also unavailable until I manually connect to Wi-Fi. To recap: When I turn on my computer and it's connected to Ethernet, this is what my Network Connections control panel looks like: After I manually join my Wi-Fi network, it looks like this: I would prefer for it to join both networks automatically on startup, the way it did in Windows 7. Is there a way to make this happen?

  • Automatically connect to 3G dialup connection

    I have a notebook with an internal 3G modem (a HUAWEI Mobile Connect) which appears to the system as a dialup modem. When I want to connect to the Internet, I need to open the charms bar, click settings, network, the modem and "connect" to open the dialup dialog on the desktop. When the connection is interrupted for some reason, I need to repeat these steps. Is there a way to configure Windows 8 to automatically (and preferably silently in the background) connect with this modem at system startup and automatically restore the connection should it get interrupted? As an operating system which is developed for mobile devices, I would expect it to be able to somehow be able to manage a always-on 3g connection.

  • User account automatically filling up with dead.letter file

    I have one user account on a server with about 400 accounts that is filling up automatically. The dead.letter file in the users home directory automatically grows until the account is full (about 10 - 40 Mb per day). The user is using Microsoft Outlook to send and receive mail. What can be causing this and how can I avoid it from happening? Right now I have an emergency cron-job to delete the file but I would like "real" solution. Edit: The server version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) Edit 2: It seems mainly spam and I see different mailer headings (from php to Outlook Express) and a frequent appearing header is [email protected] Update: I have asked the hosting provider where I use that dedicated server to look into the problem as well, as it's their Control Panel that could be a cause of the problem.

  • Synckolab will not start automatically

    We have a Kolab server for e-mail, calendar and contacts with Thunderbird for a client. The add-ons are Lightning and Synckolab. The workstations are Kubuntu, most 10.04, some 11.10. It basically works but for one nagging problem: the automatic sync (that is, the settings that starts Synckolab upon start of Thunderbird and every x minutes as per setting) does not fire. We went through the whole routine: setting it, setting it to zero and back to any number of minutes, stopping/starting Thunderbird or the entire computer to make sure it sees and sets it. In the configuration console is reflects the changes. But still it will not automatically fire Synckolab. Manual syncs work without any problem (none that we've seen - it reflects all the added, changed etc calendar events). In short: Synckolab does not fire automatically with any setting who have thought of.

  • Thunderbird 3.0.2 stops automatically checking for email

    Since upgrading to Thunderbird 3.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.6, Thunderbird will intermittently stop checking for messages automatically. Frequently I am presented with the error "This folder is being processed" when manually checking for mail. Restarting Thunderbird fixes the problem, but I have noticed hours can go by where auto checking isn't working, and restarting shows there were dozens of messages waiting to be delivered in that down time. Occasionally I will see "indexing 1 of 2 messages - 0% complete" in the status bar, it will sit there for a long time. Actions I've taken to fix: Deleted all .msf files in all accounts Removed News & Blogs account Staggered the "automatically check for mail" interval for each account Worth noting: after waking up the macbook, TB usually needs to be restarted to resume auto checking for mail. Has anyone experienced such trouble?

    Hello, In Windows XP Pro (SP2), there seems to be no way to have shortcuts automatically updated so they can stay connected to their target files or folders after the latter have been moved or renamed. So I'm looking for more efficient ways of reconnecting broken shortcuts with their moved or renamed targets than manually deleting them and re-creating new ones (this can be quite a chore if you reorganize your files and folders often, resulting in a lot of shortcuts to fix); and I'd like to find out if there are any PC programs that can monitor shortcuts on Windows XP and automatically fix them when their target files or folders get moved or renamed.   • Sony VAIO Broken Computer Screen automatically connect to external

    I have a SONY Vaio with a screen that's broken as in I only see white or black dots on the display. I would like to have it start automatically to the external, but my previous computer settings for an external display has it set on "extend" rather than "duplicate". Therefore, whenever I boot up, I have the extended screen on the external, which does me no good since I can't really do anything with my start bar still located on the broken screen. I hope that makes sense. Has anyone else run into this problem? I've seen some things about starting in BIOS. Will my broken computer screen still be able to display the contents when I'm in BIOS? How do I get there? or are there keystrokes for a Sony Vaio that will automatically let me duplicate screens or direct everything to the external? Thanks!

    Hi My problem is that I want to automatically to move spam messages to a folder and not sure how. I have a linux box giving email access. MTA is Postfix, IMAP is Courier. As webmail client I use Squirrelmail. To filter SPAM I use Spamassassin and is working ok. Spamassasin is overwriting subjects with [--- SPAM 14.3 ---] Viagra...   • Mac Share Points automatically authenticate with matching Windows AD credentials from Windows

    I recently started administering an OS X server (10.8) that is on the same network as our AD domain. While setting up Mac Share Points, I encountered some odd behavior that I hope someone can explain. For the purposes of this example assume the following: 1) Local User on OS X Server: frank, password: Help.2012 2) AD Domain User: frank, password: Help.2012 3) AD Domain: mycompany 4) OS X Server hostname: macserver (not bound to AD, not running OD) When joined to the domain on a a Win 7 computer and logged in as frank and accessing the shares at \\macserver, it automatically authenticates using frank's OS X credentials (because they are the same). However, if I change frank's OS X password, the standard Windows authentication dialog pops-up preset to use frank's AD domain (my company\frank). However, after entering the new OS X password, it will not authenticate without changing the domain to local (.\frank). Basically, if a user in AD has the same User name and password in OS X, it will authenticate automatically regardless of the domain. If the passwords differ, authenticating to the OS X shares must be done from the local machine. (and slightly off topic - how come an OS X administrator can access the root drives on the Mac server from Windows when accessing the Mac shares even when they aren't shared? In other words, it will show all the shared folders from "File Sharing" plus whatever drives are mounted in OS X)

  • Automatically update SVN repository on another server

    We have 2 Ubuntu web servers, one of which is our staging server (Staging) and the other is our live server (Live). Staging has our Subversion repository, as well as the latest version of our sites on it. Because the SVN server is running on Staging, I've added post-commit hook scripts so that the staging server automatically has the latest code. Easy. However, I'd like one of the repositories on Live to also stay updated. This is a repository of images, PDFs and suchlike. When a team member commits to this, I'd like it to automatically update on the live servers so it can be used in mailings, content managed pages etc. I'd add something to the post-commit to SSH across and update, but for security, we can only SSH from one server to another as user 'commandLine', whereas the 'www-data' user runs the post-commit. I'd rather not run a cron on Live to update every 5 minutes, but I can't see another way of doing it without altering all our user permissions. Any ideas?

  • Wi-Fi won't automatically connect (box in Windows configuration gets unchecked)

    The checkbox that says "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings" keeps getting unchecked (Wirless Network Connection - Change advanced settings - Wireless networks tab.) How do I stop that from happening? (So the wi-fi will reconnect.) When I manually re-check the box, it automatically connects.) I have a D-Link AirPremier DWL-G550 PCI adapter. I installed the newest driver, 5.3.0.46, and that didn't solve the problem. I took the "Atheros Client Utility" (the program window says "D-Link AirPremier Client Utility" when you run it) out of the start menu, rebooted, and that didn't solve the problem. (That utility puts a signal bar similiar to the one MS Windows puts there, and it's gone now.) The D-Link client utility has an option to automatically connect to preferred networks, but it is greyed out. It is also greyed out if I install the driver and utility right off the D-Link installation CD, so the problem isn't that the utility and driver are incompatible versions. I want to use Windows to handle the connection anyway, as the D-Link utility is garbage. Windows XP SP3 w/all current updates.

    I'm looking for a way to automatically (as part of the compilation/build process) generate a "table" of function pointers in C. Specifically, I want to generate an array of structures something like: typedef struct { void (*p_func)(void); char * funcName; } funcRecord; /* Automatically generate the lines below: */ extern void func1(void); extern void func2(void); /* ... */ funcRecord funcTable[] = { { .p_func = &func1, .funcName = "func1" }, { .p_func = &func2, .funcName = "func2" } /* ... */ }; /* End automatically-generated code. */ ...where func1 and func2 are defined in other source files. So, given a set of source files, each of which which contain a single function that takes no arguments and returns void, how would one automatically (as part of the build process) generate an array like the one above that contains each of the functions from the files? I'd like to be able to add new files and have them automatically inserted into the table when I re-compile. I realize that this probably isn't achievable using the C language or preprocessor alone, so consider any common *nix-style tools fair game (e.g. make, perl, shell scripts (if you have to)). But Why? You're probably wondering why anyone would want to do this. I'm creating a small test framework for a library of common mathematical routines. Under this framework, there will be many small "test cases," each of which has only a few lines of code that will exercise each math function. I'd like each test case to live in its own source file as a short function. All of the test cases will get built into a single executable, and the test case(s) to be run can be specified on the command line when invoking the executable. The main() function will search through the table and, if it finds a match, jump to the test case function. Automating the process of building up the "catalog" of test cases ensures that test cases don't get left out (for instance, because someone forgets to add it to the table) and makes it very simple for maintainers to add new test cases in the future (just create a new source file in the correct directory, for instance).   • Problem with Macbook air automatically not acquiring free wifi network dns or router address

    I have this problem when my macbook air sometimes does not connect to free wifi hotspots. When the problem happens and I try to run the diagnostics, it normally gets to yellow network settings tab. It seems that it for some reason does not acquire automatically the router or dns address. Sometimes after I shut it down and restart it magically connects to the wifi hotspot but it is very inconsistent. Anyone knows a fix for this problem?
