  Modern technology is nice - sitting in the speed train from Holyhead to London Euston - working a bit. This means: I'm heading home. Still 16 hours to go - but up to now everything seems to work fine. Irish Ferries did a great job. Even though they might never have seen some many passengers entering the Ulysses (what a good name for a ship to start the journey with) everybody was so friendly and helpful. The night at Holyhead station ... ahm ... But the train left right in time. German airspace is still closed until at least 8pm tonight. And Irish airspace seems to be closed as well today. So it might be the best decision to take the longer journey. At least now I have the chance to see some countryside (a bit flat out there - but very green) ;-)

  This past fall, I decided to take a break from Fantasy Football. Did I miss it? Yes to some extent. Fantasy Football can really eat up a lot of time. But - I still love March Madness (NCAA Men's Basketball Tourney). It doesn't take much time to pick out teams. Since you can't make any changes after the deadline and the computer keeps track of scoring/scenarios/etc, it is a fun thing that really takes a little time and can help you enjoy the games a bit more. • About best practices of JMS integration using TIBCO .Net client

  I'm working on an integration project where I'm talking to JMS framework using TIBCO .Net client. A colleague is recommdending a design decision based on a fear of receiving too many messages suddenly in a way that our application can't handle it. We are using Asynchronous mode while receiving messages. I'm new to that topic so I couldn't find quick best practices to support his clam or mine. Any suggestions? How can I test this subject?

  Hello, I'm wondering how, in JCAPS 6, we can create new eWays. By eWay, I mean the components like the existing HL7, JMS, File, eMails (ie, external applications) ... I am not sure about the exact name of these entites, "API oriented OTD", JBI, JCA. Basically, I would like to create an object that: - is part of the Connectivity Map - has properties (which can be overwritten in Glassfish) - can cooperate dynamically with my Collaborations (JCDs) Does anyone know how to create such objects?   I am currently finding about how to build a XMPP client application on android 2.0.I came across this link which somewhat talks about the same problem.I am a newbie to android dev and thus found the solution given there to be difficult to digest. The system currently has Active MQ as a JMS provider.My job is to fed the messages coming from JMS to the XMPP server and then develope XMPP client on android 2.0 which will listen and show notification to the events pushed by the server. I have following concerns(which might sound foolish) 1.How do I push the events from JMS to the XMPP server which will in turn push them on android? 2.Which XMPP server implementation I should use?I have 3 options * Openfire: Very mature (was a commercial product), but sounds like it's heavyweight, written in Java * Prosody: Lightweight and easy to use, written in Lua. Doesn't have PubSub module yet * Tigase: Also lightweight, written in Java, supports PubSub How do I test and setup these servers.Do I need PubSub funcationality for my app? 3.For XMPP client I came across Smack API given here which is updated like 2 years back.Can anyone please tell me how do I make use of it for Android 2.0.If possible can anyone please mail me latest working Smack jar files. • ActiveMq integration with Spring 2.5

  I am using ActiveMq 5.32 with Spring 2.5.5. I use pretty generic configuration, as long as I include the jmsTransactionManager in DefaultMessageListenerContainer, Spring throw an error on start up: "Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.jms.listener.DefaultMessageListenerContainer#0'" Without the transactionManager attribute , this works fine, but when I add 10 messages to the message queue, a transaction exception will occur. Part of my configurations : <bean class="org.springframework.jms.listener.DefaultMessageListenerContainer"> <property name="connectionFactory" ref="connectionFactory" /> <property name="destination" ref="emailDestination" /> <property name="messageListener" ref="emailServiceMDP" /> <property name="transactionManager" ref="jmsTransactionManager" /> </bean> <bean id="jmsTransactionManager" class="org.springframework.jms.connection.JmsTransactionManager"> <property name="connectionFactory" ref="connectionFactory" /> </bean> Does this version of Spring and Activemq has some know issues in integration ? • Prebuilt ActiveMQ Server Based off ZeroMQ

  Are there any distributions of fully built Message Brokers that are initially based off of ZeroMQ? I had thought that downloading/installing ZeroMQ would give me such, not just a handful of procedures for rolling me own. Currently we use ActiveMQ, but it is a miserable pain to configure, so I'd rather slim down the profile, unfortunately I learned that ZeroMQ was not a one step solution to achieving that goal. Alternatives are ok, but I'd prefer something less overly verbose in configuration than ActiveMQ's ludicrous amounts of Java configuration. Broker config + Java Logger Config + many other intricacies that I don't wish to deal with. (Read: Preferably not Java based in the first place.) I'm looking for reliable, basic functionality described by JMS brokers. Topics, Queues, Message Persistence, etc.

• Java JMS = HornetQ = javax.jms.JMSSecurityException: Unable to validate user: null ?

  Hello Experts, I am trying for several hours to get the HornetQ Examples running in Eclipse. Using the Standalone Examples everything works fine, but when I run the examples in Eclipse I get the following error: javax.jms.JMSSecurityException: Unable to validate user: null What could this error mean? Where do I have to specify the user? Maybe HornetQ tries to look this user up in "Some Context/Properties" etc , but I do not know where and how to specifiy the user HornetQ is running under. What i did: 1.)Started Default HornetQ Server with the start.sh Script in the ./bin directory 2.)Copied the QueueExample over to eclpise 3.)Did some minor changes in the config files (to have the same Queue Names...) (I also tried to disable security completely by setting: <security-enabled>false</security-enabled> but with no success, always getting the same error. Also when trying to programmatically instance HornetQ only via classes I get this error too). Thank you very much!! Jens

• Message Driven Bean with Java Message Queue down

  I have the following problem deploying my application. It uses JMS and a remote openMQ for communication between servers. The problem is that the connection is not fully reliable so it can be up or down. For reconnecting I set the jms reconnect glassfish property so it reconnects if at some moment the connection gets lost. The problem arises when i try to deploy the application and there is no connection. It looks like it keeps retrying the connection but the application does not finish deployment until connection is available. Is it possible to configure it in any way that the deployment continues even if there is no connection and keeps retrying until there is connection available? Thanks a lot.

• When to use Spring Integration vs. Camel?

  As a seasoned Spring user I was assuming that Spring Integration would make the most sense in a recent project requiring some (JMS) messaging capabilities (more details). After some days working with Spring Integration it still feels like a lot of configuration overhead given the amount of channels you have to configure to bring some request-response (listening on different JMS queues) communications in place.   Hello, We have to communicate with a C++ component from a J2ee web application and my proposal involved using JMS server to communicate with the C++ component which is located on other machine. However the developer of the C++ component wants me to open up TCP/IP sockets from the webapplication and communicate over XML. My view is that socket programming in web application is error prone and will not scale well since there is a limited amount of sockets that can be opened up. Please let me have your architecture/design preference on using JMS vs TCP/IP sockets. Thank you

  Hi All, I am trying to make an common abstract interface over the messaging infrastructure in our company. The design goal is to 2 fold. 1 is to hide the complexity of programming from the developers (i know its not very complex but still simplify it further) and 2 is to make the developers independent of the vendor specific messaging infrastructure (i.e. it can be MQSeries or EMS or MSMQ). The very common option is using the WCF layer over the messaging infrastructure. Use the MQSeries Custom channel for WCF or use EMS custom channle for WCF. But both are ruled out due to lack of proper version of MQSeries and EMS. Can someone please suggest what are the possible solutions to this problem. One which i can think of the to have a custom wrapper like JMS. Has anyone ever tried something similar before. Any help would be fantastic. by the way, i am trying to create this wrapper in C# 3.5. • How can I cluster short messages [Tweets] based on topic ? [Topic Based Clustering]

  Hello, I am planning an application which will make clusters of short messages/tweets based on topics. The number of topics will be limited like Sports [ NBA, NFL, Cricket, Soccer ], Entertainment [ movies, music ] and so on... I can think of two approaches to this Ask for users to tag questions like Stackoverflow does. Users can select tags from a predefined list of tags. Then on server side I will cluster them on based of tags. Pros:- Simple design. Less complexity in code. Cons:- Choices for users will be restricted. Clusters will not be dynamic. If a new event occurs, the predefined tags will miss it. Take the message, delete the stopwords [ predefined in a dictionary ] and apply some clustering algorithm to make a cluster and depending on its popularity, display the cluster. The cluster will be maintained according to its sustained popularity. New messages will be skimmed and assigned to corresponding clusters. Pros:- Dynamic clustering based on the popularity of the event/accident. Cons:- Increased complexity. More server resources required. I would like to know whether there are any other approaches to this problem. Or are there any ways of improving the above mentioned methods? Also suggest some good clustering algorithms.I think "K-Nearest Clustering" algorithm is apt for this situation.

  Hello, I have a working example of sending message to server and server receiving it via qpid messaging. • How to get local ActiveMQ broker to "mirror" a queue on a remote ActiveMQ broker?

  I have a local ActiveMQ broker which is on an unreliable internet connection, and also a remote ActiveMQ broker in a reliable datacenter. I have already sorted out a "store and forward" setup so that outgoing messages are sent to the remote broker when the Internet connection is available. That alone works great, but when messages are outbound. However, now I have to do the reverse. Here is the scenario: A new message appears in the remote ActiveMQ broker. The message is put into a specific queue. In a few minutes, the Internet connection becomes available to the local ActiveMQ broker. The local broker should then be able to pull the message from the remote broker, and place it in its own local queue. Local consumers will then be able to see the message. So in essence, I need the local broker to become a subscribed consumer to the remote queue. I have looked through the ActiveMQ documentations but I can't find anything yet about how to do this in the .xml configuration file. Is this what I should be looking for? • Is JavaEE really portable?

  I'm just implementing a JavaEE assignment I was given on an interview. I have some prior experience with EJB, but nothing related to JMS and MDBs. So here's what I find through the numerous examples: application servers bind their topics and queues to different JNDI names - for example topic/queue, jms the activationConfig property is required on JBoss, while in the Sun tutorial it is not. after starting my application, jboss warns me that my topic isn't bound (it isn't actually - I haven't bound it, but I expect it to be bound automatically - in fact, in an example for JBoss 4.0 automatic binding does seem to happen). A suggested solution is to map it in some jboss files or even use jboss-specific annotations. This might be just JBoss, but since it is certified to implement to spec, it appears the spec doesn't specify these these things. And there all the alleged portability vanishes. So I wonder - how come it is claimed that JavaEE is portable and you can take an ear and deploy it on another application server and it magically runs, if such extremely basic things don't appear to be portable at all. P.S. sorry for the rant, but I'm assume I might be doing/getting something wrong, so state your opinions.

• Work around for MessageNotReadableException in Java

  Hi, I am building a small api around the JMS API for a project of mine. Essentially, we are building code that will handle the connection logic, and will simplify publishing messages by providing a method like Client.send(String message). One of the ideas being discussed right now is that we provide a means for the users to attach interceptors to this client. We will apply the interceptors after preparing the JMS message and before publishing it. For example, if we want to timestamp a message and wrote an interceptor for that, then this is how we would apply that ...some code ... Message message = session.createMessage() ..do all the current processing on the message and set the body for(interceptor:listOfInterceptors){ interceptor.apply(message) } One of the intrerceptors we though of was to compress the message body. But when we try to read the body of the message in the interceptor, we are getting a MessageNotReadableException. In the past, I normally compressed the content before setting it as the body of the message - so never had to worry about this exception. Is there any way of getting around this exception?
