  • How to Re-install an App that Shows up in the Appstore as 'Update' Instead of 'Buy App'

    - by Craig Reville
So long story short: I dropped the wrong app into 'clean my mac' and I hit 'cancel' but it was too late by that point. I rebooted and appstore said it had an update, when I opened appstore it was showing an update for the app I just uninstalled. I tried clicking 'update' but it gives me an error saying it's unable to install after 'downloading'. When I try to go into 'purchased apps' it shows the app as uninstalled so I click 'install' and I get an error saying it's already installed. I'm running Lion OS X, latest version, updated, mac book pro is only a few months old. I tried searching through the entire system to remove all traces of the app, after rebooting appstore no longer shows the app and no longer shows the update but on the apps page it still says 'Update'. I tried reinstalling the app from desktop OUT of the appstore and again says the app is 'already installed'. So after reading more about lion I found an article that spoke about 'BundleID' being the thing that tells appstore what's installed and needing updating however I can't find the location of where the BundleID would be. Any thoughts? I've tried CCleaner, AppCleaner etc and none of them show the app, mainly because it is uninstalled. Update I've spoken to Apple Support who confirmed that there is a file in the system that connects separately to tell the system if there are updates available however they declined to inform me of any further details. Apple also referred me from technical support to iTunes App Store opposed to Mac App Store support and from there I have been referred to AppleCare who are currently 'investigating' this issue. Hopefully there will be a fix that's simple to implement for people having similar issues, this appears to be a more common issue than I previously thought.

  • Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion

    - by Andy
I tried to answer the question from Mark: Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion to Ubuntu However, it is locked so I figured I would post a new question / answer. I have been trying to answer this for a few days now because I have no issues when connecting through NX Client (technically OpenNX) to FreeNX server from an iMac (with Lion), but if I try to connect with a Macbook Pro I get horrible keyboard binding issues. The fix that is working for me is to go into: ~/.nx/config/HOST.nxs and change: <option key="Current keyboard" value="false"/> <option key="Custom keyboard layout" value="empty"/> <option key="Grab keyboard" value="false"/> I have tried this on three NX Servers and all are fixed. Hope it helps or gets you closer. Always check in the ~/.nx/temp/ for the sshlog and see if --keyboard="empty/empty" instead of "pc105/en" because the Mac is really pc104. 9:05:35: startsession --session="HOST" --type="unix-gnome" --cache="8M" --images="32M" --link="adsl" --geometry="2556\ x1396" --screeninfo="2560x1440x32+render" --keyboard="empty/empty" --backingstore="1" --encryption="1" --composite="1" --\ shmem="1" --shpix="1" --streaming="1" --samba="0" --cups="0" --nodelay="1" --defer="0" --client="macosx" --media="0" --st\ rict="0" --aux="1"

  • Mac OS X Server Configure DHCP Options 66 and 67

    - by Paul Adams
I need to configure Mountain Lion (10.8.2) OS X Server BOOTP to provide DHCP options 66 and 67 to provide PXE booting for PCs on my network. I have tried following the bootpd MAN pages, but they are not specific enough. I have also read conflicting information on the net, but nothing definitive for Mountain Lion DHCP. From bootpd man page: bootpd has a built-in type conversion table for many more options, mostly those specified in RFC 2132, and will try to convert from whatever type the option appears in the property list to the binary, packet format. For example, if bootpd knows that the type of the option is an IP address or list of IP addresses, it converts from the string form of the IP address to the binary, network byte order numeric value. If the type of the option is a numeric value, it converts from string, integer, or boolean, to the proper sized, network byte-order numeric value. Regardless of whether bootpd knows the type of the option or not, you can always specify the DHCP option using the data property list type <key>dhcp_option_128</key> <data> AAqV1Tzo </data> My TFTP server is 172.16.152.20 and the bootfile is pxelinux.0 I have edited /etc/bootpd.plist and added the following to the subnet dict: <key>dhcp_option_66</key> <data> LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= </data> <key>dhcp_option_67</key> <data> LW4gLWUgcHhlbGludXguMAo= </data> According to the man page, the data elements are supposed to be Base64 encoded, but no matter what I try, I cannot get PXE clients to boot. I have tried encoding 172.16.152.20 using various methods: echo "172.16.152.20" | openssl enc -base64 returns MTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= DHCP Option Code Utility (http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/DHCP-Option-Code-Utility.shtml) generating a string from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgMTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= (used in the above example) DHCP Option Code Utility generating an IP Addresss from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= Encoding pxelinux.0 with the above methods likewise yields different encodings. I have tried using all three methods of encoding the data elements, but nothing seems to work i.e. my PXE boot clients do not get directed to my TFTP server. Can anyone help? Regards, Paul Adams.

  • Using Windows 8 with Bootcamp?

    - by Farhad Yusufali
I am trying to install Windows 8 using Bootcamp on OSX Mountain Lion. I need a bootable CD. Does the bootable CD have to be the size of the ISO image or can it be smaller (since it only contains the installer)? If it does not in fact have to be the size of the ISO image, what's the minimum required size of the CD I insert into my drive to create a bootable CD? (i.e. the minimum size of a bootable USB is 8GB)

  • Forcecommand is giving strange results with Tmux

    - by Joeyjoejoejr
I'm trying to set up pairing with tmux (wemux specifically). I have a pair user set up on my system and can ssh into pair and attach to a tmux session manually. However when I set up Forcecommand in the Match block to attach to tmux automatically on login, it fails saying that there is no tmux session to attach to. Permissions are set to 777 on the socket. I'm on OsX mountain lion, if that helps. Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to quickly set all spaces to the same wallpaper?

    - by LBRapid
It's great that Lion allows different spaces to have different wallpapers, but I have not found an easy way to get them all to use the same wallpaper. The only way I've accomplished it so far is to either manually change the wallpaper for each space or to close all of the spaces (except the one that has the wallpaper I want) and reopen them. Anybody have a solution to allow me to quickly set all spaces to the same wallpaper?

  • App to log network user's file activities

    - by Luke
My employer recently purchased a Mac Pro server (2011 model) and we've installed OSX Lion Server from the Mac Appstore. I'm definitely no server admin, but I have been tasked with finding out the following: Can we monitor or log what users do? (ie, open a file, copy a file.... or file-related tasks) Can we stop files from being copied? Or be alerted when this does occur? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Textmate single quotes autoclosure

    - by Arnold Sakhnov
I’m using TextMate 1.5.10 on OS X Lion, and for some weird reason I don‘t get autocomplete for single quotes ('). Double quotes (") work fine. Since I personally prefer to use single quotes whenever I code in JavaScript or PHP, that thing annoys me a little. And as far I have googled, TextMate is actually supposed to autoclose single quotes by default. So why doesn’t this work for me and how do I force-enable this feature?

  • Using mozilla firefox with utf-8 addresses (in greek) on mac

    - by Panagiotis
Very often when I use firefox (any version from 10+) and I type my utf-8 seo url it behaves strangely. For example it randomly cuts the url and adds the url again at whole like this: http://www.mysite.com/????G????S/???? would make it as http://www.mysite.com/????G???http://www.mysite.com/????G????S/???? resulting in converting the url to urlencoded letters and 404 errors. I am using Lion with the latest firefox (yes I have uninstalled it once and reinstalled it).

I'm trying to access the Library folder on my OS Lion however all the tutorials related to this subject involves opening the user library however I would like to access the Library where the 'WebServer' folder is located when you enable web-sharing. Whenever I try to access it it gives me the error that I am not allowed to see what's inside and I checked my status, saying that I am an admin but it still occurs. Any help?

  • Why is iTunes using so much data?

    - by George
I've been told by my ISP I'm using too much bandwidth so after using Activity Monitor to see that I'm using ~2GB a day I've used the nettop command line utility to work out where. Turns out it's iTunes. I don't use it for downloading/streaming music (other than podcasts of which I definitely don't have 2GB of new ones a day) or movies. What is iTunes doing? This is on a late 2009 MacBook running Lion 10.7.5 with iTunes version 10.7

  • OSX Lion - sh: mysql command not found

    - by mkk
I have pretty simple issue I believe. I have successfully installed mysql etc. I do not have any problems with running "mysql" command from terminal [ bash ]. Suddenly, when my application tried to run mysql command I got error: sh: mysql: command not found.. In terminal, when I type sh and then mysql I can log in to mysql without any problems. I have added mysql to PATH in .bash_profile and I suspect this is why sh cannot see it. I have cp .bash_profile to .profile but it did not do the trick, any ideas how can I fix this issue?

  • Cannot get mod_rewrite to work on Mac OSX Mountain Lion

    - by Joel Joel Binks
I have tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work. I am trying to get the example code from Larry Ullman's Advanced PHP book to work. His instructions were a bit lacking so I had to do some research. Here is what I have configured: username.conf <Directory "/Users/me/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> httpd.conf LoadModule rewrite_module libexec/apache2/mod_rewrite.so DocumentRoot "/Users/me/Sites" <Directory /> Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny, allow Allow from all </Directory> <Directory "Users/me/Sites"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> .htaccess <IfModule mod_rewrite.so> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /phplearning/ADVANCED/ch02/ # Redirect certain paths to index.php: RewriteRule ^(about|contact|this|that|search)/?$ index.php?p=$1 RewriteLog "/var/log/apache/rewrite.log" RewriteLogLevel 2 </IfModule> Nothing has worked and it won't even log to the rewrite.log file. What have I done wrong? FYI even when I set up an extremely simple rule or use the root as the rewrite base, it still fails. I have also verified the mod_rewrite module is running. I am really angry.

  • Completely remove Postgres on Mac OSX Lion

    - by Nai
    I'm trying to get postgis running on my machine. Running brew install postgis seems to have installed postgres 9.2.1 on to my machine. I would like to remove my previous version 9.1.2 to keep my environment clean. Running brew uninstall postgres removes 9.2.1. What's the best way to do this? UPDATE nai@nyc ~ $ brew versions postgresql 9.2.1 git checkout ed92469 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.2.0 git checkout 2f6cbc6 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.1.5 git checkout 6b8d25f /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.1.4 git checkout c40c7bf /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.1.3 git checkout 05c7954 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.1.2 git checkout dfcc838 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.1.1 git checkout 4ef8fb0 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.0.4 git checkout 2accac4 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.0.3 git checkout b782d9d /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.0.2 git checkout 2c3b88a /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.0.1 git checkout b7fab6c /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 9.0.0 git checkout 1168d8f /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 8.4.4 git checkout c32bea0 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb 8.4.3 git checkout 237d1c5 /usr/local/Library/Formula/postgresql.rb

  • Updating from OSX Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.4

    - by Ozair Kafray
I just got my Mac upgraded to 10.7.2, just to be able to install Xcode 4.3.3. However, when I try to install Xcode 4.3.3, it says that it requires a minimum of OSX 10.7.3. Then using the "Software Upgrade" tool it detects successfully for me that a combined upgrade to 10.7.4 is available. As I select Install Item, the download starts however, it fails after complete download (taking two hours) saying something like "the update cannot be saved". I have done this twice already, and followed it up until 5 minutes were left. I have also checked that there is enough space (60 GB) available on my hard disk, while the update requires around 1.5 GB. The question is what is causing the problem mentioned in bold above.

  • Errors in Homebrew on OS X Lion

    - by Bo Tian
I just ran the Homebrew script as described in the installation page. I then ran brew doctor in Terminal, and it returned several errors. I'm not sure how to fix those errors, please help. brew doctor Error: Some directories in /usr/local/share/man aren't writable. This can happen if you "sudo make install" software that isn't managed by Homebrew. If a brew tries to add locale information to one of these directories, then the install will fail during the link step. You should probably `chown` them: /usr/local/share/man/de /usr/local/share/man/de/man1 Error: You have Xcode 4.2, which is outdated. Please install Xcode 4.3. Error: Unbrewed dylibs were found in /usr/local/lib. If you didn't put them there on purpose they could cause problems when building Homebrew formulae, and may need to be deleted. Unexpected dylibs: /usr/local/lib/libcdt.5.dylib /usr/local/lib/libcgraph.6.dylib /usr/local/lib/libgraph.5.dylib /usr/local/lib/libgvc.6.dylib /usr/local/lib/libgvpr.2.dylib /usr/local/lib/libpathplan.4.dylib /usr/local/lib/libxdot.4.dylib Error: Unbrewed .pc files were found in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig. • Automounting AFP Share For OpenDirectory Users (Mac Lion Server)

    - by davzie
We're moving all our Mac's from local logins to OpenDirectory logins in an effort to keep everything secure and to also solve issues we have with a Tiger server buggering permissions on an AFP shared drive. To cut it short, I want users to be able to login to their OpenDirectory account and I then want the AFP share point to mount using the credentials they just logged in with. Firstly, is this possible (I assumed it was) and secondly how might I go about doing it? Cheers, Dave

  • Windows 7 connect to Lion file sharing

    - by McKvack
Trying to access my Mac from a Windows 7 computer, I fail with the infamous error 86 incorrect password. Now this appears to be a well-known problem with countless threads on the internet giving as many "solutions" as there are discussion threads about it (mostly ranging from installing third-party commercial samba servers, to switching to some other protocol, to compiling a plain-vanilla Samba installation - the latter which I will probably do when I give up this :) ) I am stubborn, and I believe there must be some problem here that can be solved or worked around, but there is surprisingly little detail about this problem. It appears to have something to do with a mismatch of authentication methods. Trying to run samba in debug mode: sudo /usr/sbin/smbd -debug -stdout gets me this output when trying to access it from Win 7 ... smb1_dispatch_one [smb_dispatch.cpp:377] dispatching SMB_COM_SESSION_SETUP_ANDX smb1_dispatch_session_setup [session_setup.cpp:261] FIXME erase existing sessions log_gss_error [gssapi_mechanism.cpp:97] gssapi: gss-code: Miscellaneous failure (see text) log_gss_error [gssapi_mechanism.cpp:113] gssapi: mech-code: unknown mech-code 22 for mech unknown What is the problem here, and how do I fix it?

  • Loading guest OS's (Windows) localhost through my host's (Mountain Lion) browsers

    - by Jonah Goldstein
For work, I have to develop in Visual Studio, which I run via VMware's fusion 5. I really want to test via my mac's native browsers for a multitude of reasons. that is, view the IIs web stuffs that my windows VM should expose, in my mac's own native Firefox, Chrome... etc. if i could expose a pretty url, that would be even better, but i would certainly settle for an ugly IP :) I got a decent number of views but no response when I asked in VMware's own boards. Everyone seems to want to go the other direction (developing in sublimetext/textmate serving up through MAMP and exposing it to windows browsers to test) and there seems to be tried a true solutions for this. unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your preference) my startup is pretty entrenched in the visual studio development tools. I'm really hoping that someone knows the answer to this. Thanks :)
