  • Ubuntu One lost most of my files!

    - by Max
I keep in my UbuntuOne the source code of my projects as a back up. In the past it worked and I never had problem. It happened that I had to change the hard disk of my laptop and I installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 in the new one. First time I connected with UbuntuOne it downloaded my files, but when I went to see my projects almost all my c++ source code files were missing!!!... I tried to check if I still have them on UbuntuOne by accessing from the web but nothing... my work is lost forever. I don't know who to ask for help? Is there a way to get back my precious files? Honestly I can't trust this service any more, I'm very disappointed. (edit: thanks God I found a back up in one of my external hard disks. I won't trust Ubuntu One any more, it's buggy and quite slow. )

  • How to remove MySQL completely with config and library files on ubuntu 12.04 gnome 3.0

    - by codeartist
I tried everything till now: sudo apt-get remove mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common sudo apt-get autoremove and even more commands... • Why do we need a format for binary executable files

    - by user3671483
When binary files (i.e. executables) are saved they usually have a format (e.g. ELF or .out) where we have a header containing pointers to where data or code is stored inside the file. But why don't we store the binary files directly in the form of sequence of machine instructions. Why do we need to store data separately from the code?Secondly when the assembler creates a binary file is the file is among the above formats?

  • Tokyo Tyrant ulog / update log management.

    - by Nathan Milford
I'm testing Tokyo Tyrant in a master-master setup and have found the ulog grows out of control and locks up the disk. At first I found the -ulim option useful and limited the logfile size, however it simply rolls over to a new log, leaving the old ones to clutter up the partition. I suppose I'll write a shell script that will delete ulogs older than X, once I find out how far back Tokyo Tyrant needs in the update log in order to failover. Does anyone have any experience with this Tokyo Tyrant? Do you have a feel (acknowledging that every install is different based on what is being stored) for the optimal ulog size vs how far back a Tokyo Tyrant instance needs to look in the ulog to assume master status? Thanks, nathan

  • mysqld_safe Can't log to error log and syslog at the same time. Remove all --log-error configuration options for --syslog to take effect

    - by photon
When I'm trying to install MySQL 5.5 community edition on my Ubuntu 10.04 by compiling the source code, I met the following problem: $ fg % 1 sudo ../bin/mysqld_safe --basedir=/usr/local/mysql_community_5.5/data --user=mysql --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf [sudo] password for linnan: Sorry, try again. • How do I change the number of days a copied transaction log is kept in a log shipping configuration?

    - by Decker
I think this is a pretty simple and perhaps stupid question. I've established log shipping between two SQL Server 2008 servers using the GUI (i.e. the SQL Server Management Studio). It's been running fine -- but now I want to change the number of days the copied files are retained on the secondary server. Is it simply a matter of going back to the GUI and change it there. Is it smart enough just to make that simple change or is the GUI only used to create the initial log shipping configuration?

  • Security log overflowing with filtering blocks

    - by Jacob
I have a Windows 7 workstation whose security log is overflowing with the following errors: Audit Failure 3/31/2010 2:00:50 PM Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing 5157 Filtering Platform Connection "The Windows Filtering Platform has blocked a connection." Audit Failure 3/31/2010 2:00:50 PM Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing 5152 Filtering Platform Packet Drop "The Windows Filtering Platform has blocked a packet." These are not unexpected events; the firewall is expected to drop unsolicited traffic. However, I can't figure out how to tell Windows to stop writing these events to the security log. I've seen this problem before and have been able to find an answer with the use of Google, but I wasn't able to locate on this this time. Thanks!

  • Is it possible to re-cab an Administrative Install Point?

    - by Nathaniel Bannister
We have Acrobat 8 Pro at work, and our media was painfully out of date. Rather than install all of the machines at 8.0.0 and then do the 6 or 7 consecutive reboots adobe expects you to be ok with I decided I'd integrate the .msp files into the installer. After reading up on it, I figured out the exact patch order that adobe required, extracted my cd to an Administrative install point, and ran the patches against it: msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd810_efgj_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd811_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd812_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd813_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd816_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd817_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd820_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd822_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd823_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd825_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" msiexec /a AcroPro.msi /p AcrobatUpd826_all_incr.msp TARGETDIR="C:\Acrobat8" /log "output.log" Now I have a AIP that is fully patched to 8.2.6 (Tested working prior to attempting to CAB it), but is absolutely huge (1.2gb) what I would like to do is take the folders within the AIP and put them back into a cab file for the sake of convenience in transferring the files around. I tried the command: cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\Samples\sysmgmt\msi\scripts\WiMakCab.vbs" AcroPro.msi Data1 /L /C /S Per the guide I was using, while this did produce the cab file I Wanted, however the resulting MSI fails to install with an error 2602: It's been a while since I've done something like this, and it's probably a glaring oversight on my part, but any insight would be much appreciated.

  • FOR command cannot see hidden files

    - by Synetech
I’m struggling with one of the most frustrating bugs I’ve ever come across. Bug description:   The for command of the command-interpreter cannot see hidden files. Reproduction steps: Create a temporary directory Create a few files Assign a variety of attributes to the files (including hidden) Use a command like for %i in (*) do echo "%i" Expected results:    All files are processed in the for loop either by default or though a switch. Actual results: Files with any attribute other than hidden are processed; files flagged as hidden are skipped There is no switch to the for command to allow it to process hidden files Implications:    There is no way to process all files from the command-prompt. Question:    How the heck can hidden files be processed from the command-prompt or batch-files (at least in Windows if not DOS)?

  • Apache log file problem

    - by Luke
I've recently set up an Apache 2 web server and I noticed a quite a few lines in the error and access log that start with the follow sequence (but longer). Does anyone know where this comes from? ^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@ ....... My set up is an Apache 2 load balancer with mod_balancer enabled and two Apache 2 web servers. All three servers write to the same log files on a share located on a NFS. My first guess is that my problem has to do with it since it's the only difference that comes to mind from other set ups I've used in the past but I'm not sure.

  • sql server log shipping

    - by voam
I am setting up log shipping with two 2008 sql servers connecting with a vpn. As far as I know as long as the sql agent is able to access the share on the primary/secondary servers everything will work. When I set up the Log shipping on the primary server using SQL Mangagement Studio, before I can set any of the "Secondary Database Settings" it asks me to connect to the secondary server. But I really don't want to open up the connection to the secondary server. I will be initialing this secondary database with a backup so as long as the transaction logs get copies everything should work. How to I work around the GUI not enabling any of the settings for the secondary server until I actually connect to it? Thanks in advance!

  • Simplest way to shrink transaction log files on a mirrored production database

    - by MGOwen
What's the simplest way to shrink transaction log file on a mirrored production database? I have to, as my disk space is running out. I will make a full database backup before I do this, so I don't need to keep anything from the transaction log (right? I have daily full database backup, probably never need point-in-time restore, though I'll keep the option open if I can - that's all the .ldf is really for, correct?). (Hope this isn't an exact duplicate, I read a lot of questions but couldn't find this exact scenario elsewhere).

  • Search for specific call in asterisk log files

    - by chiborg
In my Asterisk log file, I have a line like this (truncated): Executing [123@mycontext:1] Set("SIP/myhost-b7111840", "__INCOMINGCLI=4711") Now I want to do the following filtering while looking at the log file with tail -f: Match lines with a specific value for "INCOMINGCLI", storing the call ID (the "SIP/myhost-b7111840" part) Output all subsequent lines that contain the call ID. As a bonus, having a grep-like option like -A would be nice. I could do that easily in various programming languages, but how would I do it with standard UNIX commands like sed or awk? Can it be done with these commands?

  • How to log messages to a log file in a specific path from a bash script

    - by Erik
How do you log messages to a log file in a specific path from a bash script? A naive implementation would be commands like: echo My message >>/my/custom/path/to/my_script.log But this probably has many disadvantages (no log rotation for example). I could use the 'logger' command, but it does not support logs in custom paths as far as I know and is not easy to configure if you have lots of bash scripts that could use a custom log file. In a scripting language like Ruby all this is quite easy: https://github.com/rudionrails/yell/wiki/101-the-datefile-adapter I could also make my own logger command based on this ruby library and call it from my bash scripts, but I guess there is already a well known solution that provides similar behavior for shell scripts?

  • Rotating WebLogic Server logs to avoid large files using WLST.

    - by adejuanc
By default, when WebLogic Server instances are started in development mode, the server automatically renames (rotates) its local server log file as SERVER_NAME.log.n.  For the remainder of the server session, log messages accumulate in SERVER_NAME.log until the file grows to a size of 500 kilobytes. Each time the server log file reaches this size, the server renames the log file and creates a new SERVER_NAME.log to store new messages. By default, the rotated log files are numbered in order of creation filenamennnnn, where filename is the name configured for the log file. You can configure a server instance to include a time and date stamp in the file name of rotated log files; for example, server-name-%yyyy%-%mm%-%dd%-%hh%-%mm%.log.By default, when server instances are started in production mode, the server rotates its server log file whenever the file grows to 5000 kilobytes in size. It does not rotate the local server log file when the server is started. For more information about changing the mode in which a server starts, see Change to production mode in the Administration Console Online Help. You can change these default settings for log file rotation. For example, you can change the file size at which the server rotates the log file or you can configure a server to rotate log files based on a time interval. You can also specify the maximum number of rotated files that can accumulate. After the number of log files reaches this number, subsequent file rotations delete the oldest log file and create a new log file with the latest suffix.  Note: WebLogic Server sets a threshold size limit of 500 MB before it forces a hard rotation to prevent excessive log file growth. • Log Blog

    - by PointsToShare
© 2011 By: Dov Trietsch. All rights reserved Logging – A log blog In a another blog (Missing Fields and Defaults) I spoke about not doing a blog about log files, but then I looked at it again and realized that this is a nice opportunity to show a simple yet powerful tool and also deal with static variables and functions in C#. My log had to be able to answer a few simple logging rules:   To log or not to log? That is the question – Always log! That is the answer  Do we share a log? Even when a file is opened with a minimal lock, it does not share well and performance greatly suffers. So sharing a log is not a good idea. Also, when sharing, it is harder to find your particular entries and you have to establish rules about retention. My recommendation – Do Not Share!  How verbose? Your log can be very verbose – a good thing when testing, very terse – a good thing in day-to-day runs, or somewhere in between. You must be the judge. In my Blog, I elect to always report a run with start and end times, and always report errors. I normally use 5 levels of logging: 4 – write all, 3 – write more, 2 – write some, 1 – write errors and timing, 0 – write none. The code sample below is more general than that. It uses the config file to set the max log level and each call to the log assigns a level to the call itself. If the level is above the .config highest level, the line will not be written. Programmers decide which log belongs to which level and thus we can set the .config differently for production and testing.  Where do I keep the log? If your career is important to you, discuss this with the boss and with the system admin. We keep logs in the L: drive of our server and make sure that we have a directory for each app that needs a log. When adding a new app, add a new directory. The default location for the log is also found in the .config file Print One or Many? There are two options here:   1.     Print many, Open but once once – you start the stream and close it only when the program ends. This is what you can do when you perform in “batch” mode like in a console app or a stsadm extension. The advantage to this is that starting a closing a stream is expensive and time consuming and because we use a unique file, keeping it open for a long time does not cause contention problems. 2.     Print one entry at a time or Open many – every time you write a line, you start the stream, write to it and close it. This work for event receivers, feature receivers, and web parts. Here scalability requires us to create objects on the fly and get rid of them as soon as possible.  A default value of the onceOrMany resides in the .config.  All of the above applies to any windows or web application, not just SharePoint.  So as usual, here is a routine that does it all, and a few simple functions that call it for a variety of purposes.   So without further ado, here is app.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration>     <configSections>         <sectionGroup name="applicationSettings" type="System.Configuration.ApplicationSettingsGroup, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, ublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" >         <section name="statics.Properties.Settings" type="System.Configuration.ClientSettingsSection, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" requirePermission="false" />         </sectionGroup>     </configSections>     <applicationSettings>         <statics.Properties.Settings>             <setting name="oneOrMany" serializeAs="String">                 <value>False</value>             </setting>             <setting name="logURI" serializeAs="String">                 <value>C:\staticLog.txt</value>             </setting>             <setting name="highestLevel" serializeAs="String">                 <value>2</value>             </setting>         </statics.Properties.Settings>     </applicationSettings> </configuration>   And now the code:  In order to persist the variables between calls and also to be able to persist (or not to persist) the log file itself, I created an EventLog class with static variables and functions. Static functions do not need an instance of the class in order to work. If you ever wondered why our Main function is static, the answer is that something needs to run before instantiation so that other objects may be instantiated, and this is what the “static” Main does. The various logging functions and variables are created as static because they do not need instantiation and as a fringe benefit they remain un-destroyed between calls. The Main function here is just used for testing. Note that it does not instantiate anything, just uses the log functions. This is possible because the functions are static. Also note that the function calls are of the form: Class.Function.  using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.IO; namespace statics {       class Program     {         static void Main(string[] args)         {             //write a single line             EventLog.LogEvents("ha ha", 3, "C:\\hahafile.txt", 4, true, false);             //this single line will not be written because the msgLevel is too high             EventLog.LogEvents("baba", 3, "C:\\babafile.txt", 2, true, false);             //The next 4 lines will be written in succession - no closing             EventLog.LogLine("blah blah", 1);             EventLog.LogLine("da da", 1);             EventLog.LogLine("ma ma", 1);             EventLog.LogLine("lah lah", 1);             EventLog.CloseLog(); // log will close             //now with specific functions             EventLog.LogSingleLine("one line", 1);             //this is just a test, the log is already closed             EventLog.CloseLog();         }     }     public class EventLog     {         public static string logURI = Properties.Settings.Default.logURI;         public static bool isOneLine = Properties.Settings.Default.oneOrMany;         public static bool isOpen = false;         public static int highestLevel = Properties.Settings.Default.highestLevel;         public static StreamWriter sw;         /// <summary>         /// the program will "print" the msg into the log         /// unless msgLevel is > msgLimit         /// onceOrMany is true when once - the program will open the log         /// print the msg and close the log. • MySQL multiple instances: can you specify a separate general_log/general_log_file option?

    - by gravyface
Have two working MySQL instances as well as the default instance. I have general logging enabled on the default; this is working fine. On the second instance, I've added: general_log = 1 general_log_file = /path/to/log/file under [mysqld1]. Restarted the instance (using mysqladmin and confirmed it was not running with mysqld_multi report 1), started it back up again, and the only data in the log file are the connect statements from when mysqld_multi report 1 was executed. Are all the instance #1 queries just being logged to the default instance general log file? The default instance is quite busy and has identical database names, tables, etc. so it's difficult to figure out right now.

  • Process xml-like log file queue

    - by Zsolt Botykai
Hi all, first of all: I'm not a programmer, never was, although had learn a lot during my professional carreer as a support consultant. Now my task is to process - and create some statistics about a constantly written and rapidly growing XML like log file. It's not valid XML, because it does not have a proper <root> element, e.g. the log looks like this: <log itemdate="somedate"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+1"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+n"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> E.g. I have to count all the items with field id=0. But most of the solutions I had found (e.g. using XPath) reports an error about the garbage after the first closing </log>. Most probably I can use python (2.6, although I can compile 3.x as well), or some really old perl version (5.6.x), and recently compiled xmlstarlet which really looks promising - I was able to create the statistics for a certain period after copying the file, and pre- & appending the opening and closing root element. But this is a huge file and copying takes time as well. Isn't there a better solution? Thanks in advance!

  • create a folder and files in c:\program files\myApp\data in windows 7

    - by ile
I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. This is function I use to create new folder and get errors: if(!CreateDirectory(pathSamples,NULL)) //Throw Error { DWORD errorcode = GetLastError(); LPVOID lpMsgBuf; FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER | FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM | FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS, NULL, errorcode, MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), (LPTSTR)&lpMsgBuf, 0, NULL ); MessageBox(NULL, (LPCTSTR)lpMsgBuf, TEXT("Error"), MB_OK); } In XP this works, but in Windows 7 it doesn't. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. My question is following: Is there an option to make changes to the code so that the folder can be created in "program files" nad that files can be saved in this folder? PS I saw this thread already but it doesn't answer my question. Thanks, Ilija

  • proxychained browser unable to open files

    - by Cocoro Cara
Ubuntu 10.10, Midori 0.3.2 browser (same problem with Epiphany 2.30.2, Chrome 11.0.686.1 dev; haven't tried with Firefox as yet) Proxychains-3.1 installed, working fine. Here is the deal: when NOT proxychained, Midori or Epiphany can download and open a file (e.g. PDFs from a Google search) in Evince without problem. But when proxychained, neither browser can open PDF files. The message is, "file xxx downloaded". Then it tries to open the file, an indication appears in the status bar, the turning wheel appears, and then nothing. Evince doesn't open. Whats going on here? In both cases (with and without proxychains) files are downloaded to the /tmp folder. They have the same file permissions and ownership. Whats different when proxychained? Why can't the files be opened and why are there no error messages or notifications. Why the silent failure? I don't want to use FF or Chrome. Chrome does not follow my GTK2 customizations and FF is just too resource heavy. Please help.
