  • SQL select statement with increment

    Currently I'm using a for statement in PHP to get all the months for this SQL statement, but would like to know if I can do it all with SQL. Basically I have to get the average listing price, and the average selling price for each month going back 1 year where the sellingdate = the month. simple with PHP, but that creates 12 database hits.     Hi, the question is hard to define without giving an example, e.g. I'd like to achieve something like this : SELECT (CASE WHEN ...) AS FieldA, 20 + FieldA AS FieldB FROM Tbl Assuming that by "..." I've replaced a long and complex CASE statement, hence I don't want to repeat it when selecting FieldB and use the aliased FieldA instead. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? What could be a workaround? Note, that this will return multiple rows , hence the DECLARE/SET outside the SELECT statement is no good in my case. PLEASE HELP. P.S. I am using SQL 2008

  • Why is Html.DropDownList() producing <select name="original_name.name"> instead of just <select name

    I have an editor template whose job is to take a SelectList as its model and build a select element in html using the Html.DropDownList() helper extension. I'm trying to assign the name attribute for the select based on a ModelMetadata property. (Reason: on post-back, I need to bind to an object that has a different property name for this item than the ViewModel used to populate the form.) The problem I'm running into is that DropDownList() is appending the name I'm providing instead of replacing it, so I end up with names like categories.category instead of category. Here is some code for you to look at...     Hi I have the following SQL SELECT statement SELECT bar_id, bar_name, town_name, advert_text FROM bar, towns, baradverts WHERE town_id = town_id_fk AND bar_id = bar_id_fk My problem is that since not every bar has an advert in table "baradverts", these bars are not coming up in the results. In other words I need a NULL for those bars that do not have an advert string.

    I am planning to replace repeatedly executed Statement objects with PreparedStatement objects to improve performance. I am using arguments like the MySQL function now(), and string variables. Most of the PreparedStatement queries I have seen contained constant values (like 10, and strings like "New York") as arguments used for the "?" in the queries. How would I go about using functions like now(), and variables as arguments? Is it necessary to use the "?"s in the queries instead of actual values? I am quite confounded.

  • Mixing regular expression and other conditional expression in a bash if statement

    I can't get around this for quite sometime now. As I read along manuals and tutorials I'm getting more confused. I want an if statement with the following logic: if [ -n $drupal_version ] && [[ "$drupal_version" =~ DRUPAL-[6-9]-[1-9][1-9] ]]; then but I can't get it to work properly. When the script is evaluated using the "bash -x ... " script construct, works ok but when is run as a regular script my expression is not evaluated (eventhough the above condition should be met the else part is run). Could you provide any help?

    I need to find the value of a variable and use it to add a class to a div, based on a switch statement.     I don't intend to simply waste your time, but: has it occurred to you too, while using Python's with statement that it really is contrary to the 5th line of "The Zen of Python" that goes "Flat is better than nested"? Can any enlightened Python guru share me some of their insights on this? (I always find that one more level of indentation pops up in my code every time I use with instead of f.close()... and it's not like I'm not gonna use try: ... finally: ... anyways and thus the benefits of with still elude me, even as I grow to like and understand Python more and more...)

I usually surround my connections with a try/finally, and I always close the connection in the finally clause. Given the above code, is it reasonable to assume that the connection will be closed if there is an exception?

Corey Haines, who proposed the subject, was convinced that if statement is absolute evil. His alternative was to create functions with predicates. Can you please explain to me why if is evil. I understand that you can write very ugly code abusing if. But I don't believe that it's that bad.

    In C++ you can initialize a variable in an if statement, like so: if (CThing* pThing = GetThing()) { } Why would one consider this bad or good style? What are the benefits and disadvantages? Personally i like this style because it limits the scope of the pThing variable, so it can never be used accidentally when it is NULL. However, i don't like that you can't do this: if (CThing* pThing = GetThing() && pThing->IsReallySomeThing()) { } If there's a way to make the above work, please post. What am I missing?

However, if I try to add this to a select box and change the function to an ||, it breaks. Do select boxes work differently since they can be continuously selected? .focus seemed to make a difference (brighter color when in focus). I am trying to do a search on enter if either the product_name or the select box is focused and do something else otherwise. I have it set up now so everything works except the select box. Thanks.
