  • Duplicate page content and the Google index

    I have a static pages with dynamically expanding content that google is indexing. I also have deep links into virtually duplicate pages which will pre-expand the relevant section of content into the relevant section. It seems like Google is ignoring all my specialized pages and not putting them in the index. Even after going through web-masters tools, crawling and submitting them to the index manually. I also use the google API for integrating search on the site, and the deep linked pages won't show up. Is there a good solution for this?

  • Is there a way to ignore Cache errors in Django?

    I've just set our development Django site to use redis for a cache backend and it was all working fine. I brought down redis to see what would happen, and sure enough Django 404's due to cache backend behaviour. Either the Connection was refused, or various other errors. Is there any way to instruct Django to ignore Cache errors, and continue processing the normal way? It seems weird that caching is a performance optimization, but can bring down an entire site if it fails. I tried to write a wrapper around the backend like so: class CacheClass(redis_backend.CacheClass): """ Wraps the desired Cache, and falls back to global_settings default on init failure """ def __init__(self, server, params): try: super(CacheClass, self).__init__(server, params) except Exception: from django.core import cache as _ _.cache = _.get_cache('locmem://') But that won't work, since I'm trying to set the cache type in the call that sets the cache type. It's all a very big mess. So, is there any easy way to swallow cache errors? Or to set the default cache backend on failure?

    Suppose, a blog or a nice article was hosted on a website and it got deleted or worse the website was brought down. How do you view that web page? I tried searching for the cached version in Google. But, looks like the content was deleted long ago and is not listed in the search results directly. There are annotations to the link from many other sites, but still the actual content is not fully available. Now, can anybody help me see this page... I am actually looking for http://effectize.com/become-coolest-programmer :) And, moreover, in addition to bookmarking a favorite link, is it possible to cache the content of the link as well for later reference in case it gets deleted?   • How do I post a link to the feed of a page via the Graph API *as* the page?

    I'm working on a plugin for a Wordpress blog that posts a link to every article published to a Facebook Page associated with the blog. I'm using the Graph API and I have authenticated myself, for the time being, via OAuth. I can successfully post a message to the page using curl via a POST request to https://graph.facebook.com/{mypageid}/feed` with e.g. message = "This is a test" and it published the message. The problem is that the message is "from" my user account. I'm an admin on this test page, and when I go to Facebook and post an update from the web, the link comes "from" my page. Is there a way to authenticate myself as a page? Or is there an alternate way to POST to a page feed that doesn't end up being interpreted as a comment from a user? Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

    I want to cache all the images on my site, so I used this code: <%Response.AddHeader "Expires","Tue, 2 October 2013 00:00:00 GMT"%> The problem is that google says the images are not cached, whenever I go to this site: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed Also in chrome, I can see that it gives a Get response for all the images. Why is that and how can I cache the images for the next year.

    I have a reasonably complex query to extract the Id field of the results I am interested in based on parameters entered by the user. After extracting the relevant Ids I am using the resulting set of Ids several times, in separate queries, to extract the actual output record sets I want (by joining to other tables, using aggregate functions, etc). I would like to avoid running the initial query separately for every set of results I want to return. I imagine my situation is a common pattern so I am interested in what the best approach is. The database is in MS SQL Server and I am using .NET 3.5.

  • WPF Custom Navigation Buttons and calling one page from another

    I have a window which contains a Frame which references a 'home' page that has buttons on it. When a button is clicked I want another page to show depending on which button was pressed. I attempted to use NavigationService.Navigate('mynextpage.xaml') and that works however, I want to use a customized navigation panel. I call this.ShowsNavigationUI = false; on my 'home' page but the bar still shows. Is there a way to accomplish what I am trying to do? My page with the frame is a window so I do not know how to disable the Navigation bar there where I guess it is coming from. Further testing shows that the ShowsNavigationUI property is false yet the nav bar shows itself in the parent window once there is a second page to go to (showing the 'home' page in the history. TIA

    I've bought domain, which was previously used by somebody back in 2007. Now I've realized that internet is full of backlinks that point to non-existing parts (pages) under my website-domain (for example to mypage.com/whatever, where whatever is not present on my website, so 404 error shows). I want to ask, are these links counted by google (for pagerank) and other search engines, or not. So do I have to redirect these links to existing pages in order to be counted?

    Sometimes it can be for example 4500 requests, after a few hours it shows a few thousand less. What is wrong? It looks like analytics corrects itself. I changed from classic to Universal a few months ago, do not know if it has anything to do with this.     I thought by placing these two lines that it would prevent the page from being cached but this is not the case between the head tags: <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> As already mentioned this is on server that doesn't support PHP (or any server side language, well, that's not true, it has cgi-bin folder that supports perl scripts but I don't know perl and have no time to engage in it.) What else could I do to prevent the page from caching? It caches on Firefox and IE (and not so much in Chrome or Safari.)

    I am a former PHP developer learning Rails and Sinatra. In PHP, every page request loaded all of the required files. If I changed some code and refreshed the page, I could be sure that the code was fresh. In Rails 3, Controller code is fresh on every request. However, if I modify any code in the /lib folder, I need to restart the server so the changes take effect. Why does this happen? Is it something to do with the way Ruby is designed? Is Rails doing some optimizations to avoid reloading code on every request? Thanks!

  • Why isn't a JS file hosted on Amazon S3 getting cached by the browser?

    I have a JS file hosted on Amazon S3 (http://s3.amazonaws.com/wingify/vis_opt.js). I want the file to be cached on users' browsers so that they don't have to download it with every page view. However, in spite of setting Cache Control header I don't think it is getting cached. Browser still contacts Amazon Server with every pageview. Here is the example of page where this script is embedded: http://myjugaad.in/ If you have Firebug, you will be able to see that browser requests it with every pageview. What can I do so that the file gets permanently cached? Thanks for help.
