• Which OpenGL version is installed?

  I recently tried to lay my hands on OpenGL. Trying to grasp the API, I learned (or was given the advice) that I shouldn't use glBegin and glEnd anymore, since those are deprecated, but should start with OpenGL 3.1, instead. As I didn't know that the version used makes such a difference, I didn't pay much attention as to which version I actually have installed on my computer. And, as far as I can see, there is no glVersion or similar call that I could use to determine that version. I am using MinGW and I found the following lines in c:\MinGW\include\GL\gl.h: /* * Mesa 3-D graphics library * Version: 4.0 [more lines] */ [more lines] #define GL_VERSION_1_1 1 #if !defined(__WIN32__) #define GL_VERSION_1_2 1 #define GL_VERSION_1_3 1 #define GL_ARB_imaging 1 #endif [more lines] #define GL_VERSION 0x1F02 which, to me, indicates, that the installed version is as low as 1.3. Is this the case or how could I verify my suspicion? Also, where would I find a later version if I have 1.3 only?

• Flash in firefox does not start unitl they show in page

  I have this little problem. My client wanted two distinct swf on a web page: a viewer on top and a slideshow of images at bottom. Clicking a link on the slideshow make the viewer load a movie, by means of LocalConnection api. The slideshow has a default, so when the page is loaded a default movie start. This works nice on all browser. The only problem I have is on firefox. When screen resolution is too low, or the monitor is too small (netbook) the slideshow remain hidden until scrolling. Therefore at page loading it doesn't start and the main viewer don't get instructed on playing the default video. As soon as I scroll the page, and the slideshow swf display on page, it starts and everything works fine. Do you know if there are any solution to this ? I cannot change the design, I must have two distinct swf, they come from a library he has, and I am trying to reuse components. thanks Leonardo

  What is the best way to convert various audio formats to PCM? For example: mp3, evrc, ogg vox. Is there a library out there that will allow me to implement this relatively easily? EDIT: I guess my initial question wasn't really what I needed. Most of the libs I have found are file converters. What I need is a block converter, where I pass in a 1Kb block of vox data and it returns its converted PCM block. Of course I’ll have to tell the converter what type of data it is and various pieces of codec information. The solution I am going for is to save and VOIP formats into a common wav format and to play that conformed file in real time. I thought there should be an easy way to do this because all audio is eventually turned into PCM before it is outputted anyways.

• Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

  Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

• Flex RSL Understanding

  Till now I was using "Merged into code" for "Framework Linkage" in Flex Builder. Now, I changed it to "Runtime shared library". On doing a release build I got myapp.swf which is roughly 260 KB which was earlier close to 350 KB. It also generated framework.swz and framework.swf. But I copied only myapp.swf on my web site and not framework.swz. Still the website works just fine. I also cleared the flash player cache from here. It works just fine without the .swz file. So my questions are: Is the framework.swz file actually used or does the flash player have a copy of it beforehand. And is that copy not cleared by clearing cache of flash player? And, even after clearing the cache, I didn't see a request for framework.swz in firebug. Why?

  We are getting a sizable leak (16kb) that is proving very difficult to eliminate. The responsible library is Foundation and the Responsible frame is NSPushAutoreleasePool. This leak does not appear on the iPhone, only the iPad.   Joda-Time library includes different datetime classes DateTime - Immutable replacement for JDK Calendar DateMidnight - Immutable class representing a date where the time is forced to midnight LocalDateTime - Immutable class representing a local date and time (no time zone) I'm wondering how are you using these classes in your Layered Applications. I see advantages in having almost all the Interfaces using LocalDateTime (at the Service Layer at least) so that my Application doesn't have to manage Timezones and can safely assume Times always in UTC. My app could then use DateTime to manage Timezones at the very beginning of the Execution's Flow. I'm also wondering in which scenario can DateMidnight be useful.

  i have some questions about python: 1- How to build .exe files from .py files? 2- How to run a program with arguments and receive the result by python code? 3- How to load .NET library in python code (or write python in VS.NET IDE [!?])? 4- is built-in integer of python 3.1 something like a string? it calculates 200! in less than one second and calculates 2^1 to 2^7036 (by a simple recursive algorithm & writing them to a text file) with a 1.75GHz cpu in 4 minuets, so if it is a string, how it can be so fast like this? is there a great difference between memory type and logical calculation of python with c++? 5- what is the best python practice? how can i be an expert?

• How to extract frequency information from samples from PortAudio using FFTW in C

  Hi all, I want to make a program that would record audio data using PortAudio (I have this part done) and then display the frequency information of that recorded audio (for now, I'd like to display the average frequency of each of the group of samples as they come in). From some research I've done, I know that I need to do an FFT. So I googled for a library to do that, in C, and found FFTW. However, now I am a little lost. What exactly am I supposed to do with the samples I recorded to extract some frequency information from them? What kind of FFT should I use (I assume I'd need a real data 1D?)? And once I'd do the FFT, how do I get the frequency information from the data it gives me? Thanks a lot in advance.

  I'm familiar with ORM as a concept, and I've even used nHibernate several years ago for a .NET project; however, I haven't kept up with the topic of ORM in Java and haven't had a chance to use any of these tools. But, now I may have the chance to begin to use some ORM tools for one of our applications, in an attempt to move away from a series of legacy web services. I'm having a hard time telling the difference betweeen the JPA spec, what you get with the Hibernate library itself, and what JDO has to offer. So, I understand that this question is a bit open-ended, but I was hoping to get some opinions on: What are the pros and cons of each? Which would you suggest for a new project? Are there certain conditions when it would make sense to use one framework vs the other?

• How to parse AMF data in Ruby?

  So I see that there are a few Rails plugins for serving AMF. However, is there a library that I can use in a Ruby environment to act as an AMF client: to read AMF data, and deserialize it into a Ruby object? If not, how could I best go about using tools built in other languages? I suppose I could write something in Python or Java or whatever, and call it from Ruby directly via backticks... but I'd first like to ensure that there isn't really any better option. Thanks!

  Hi, I'm using flot library to show plot graph. I need to show the legend in a separate div. Quoted from flot api. If you want the legend to appear somewhere else in the DOM, you can specify "container" as a jQuery object/expression to put the legend table into. So i wrote the legend options as below. "legend":{"show":true,"container":"jQuery("#placeholder")"}} Unfortunately it is not showing anything? is this the correct way of writing legend option? One good thing is it not showing default legend. so i guess the problem is with way i wrote the container . Any thoughts? Thanks

• Intersections of 3D polygons in python

  Are there any open source tools or libraries (ideally in python) that are available for performing lots of intersections with 3D geometry read from an ESRI shapefile? Most of the tests will be simple line segments vs polygons. I've looked into OGR 1.7.1 / GEOS 3.2.0, and whilst it loads the data correctly, the resulting intersections aren't correct, and most of the other tools available seem to build on this work. Whilst CGAL would have been an alternative, it's license isn't suitable. The Boost generic geometry library looks fantastic, but the api is huge, and doesn't seem to support wkt or wkb readers out of the box.

  Hello all, I have some data that I would like to save to a MAT file (version 4 or 5, or any version, for that matter). The catch: I wanted to do this without using matlab libraries, since this code will not necessary run in a machine with matlab. My program uses Java and C++, so any existing library in those languages that achieves this could help me out... I did some research but did not find anything in Java/C++. However, I found that scipy on python achieves this with mio4.py or mio5.py. I thought about implementing this on java or C++, but it seems a bit out of my time schedule. So the question is: is there any libraries in Java or C/C++ that permits saving MAT files without using Matlab libraries? Thanks a lot

• Java JRE 1.7.0_45 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

  Java Runtime Environment 7u45 (a.k.a. JRE 7u45-b18) and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2 for Windows-based desktop clients. Effects of new support dates on Java upgrades for EBS environments Support dates for the E-Business Suite and Java have changed.  Please review the sections below for more details: What does this mean for Oracle E-Business Suite users? Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JRE 7 for Windows desktop clients? Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JDK 7 for EBS application tier servers? All JRE 6 and 7 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline, and from JRE 7u10 and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 and JRE 7 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 and 7 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 or JRE 7 releases to your EBS users' desktops. What's needed to enable EBS environments for JRE 7? EBS customers should ensure that they are running JRE 7u17, at minimum, on Windows desktop clients. Of the compatibility issues identified with JRE 7, the most critical is an issue that prevents E-Business Suite Forms-based products from launching on Windows desktops that are running JRE 7.  Customers can prevent this issue -- and all other JRE 7 compatibility issues -- by ensuring that they have applied the latest certified patches documented for JRE 7 configurations to their EBS application tier servers.  These patches are compatible with JRE 6 and 7, production ready, and fully-tested with the E-Business Suite.  These patches may be applied immediately to all E-Business Suite environments. All other Forms prerequisites documented in the Notes above should also be applied.  Where are the official patch requirements documented? No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases on the JRE 6 and 7 codelines.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22 on the JRE 6 codeline, and JRE 7u10 and later JRE 7 codeline updates. Implications of Java 6 End of Public Updates for EBS Users The Support Roadmap for Oracle Java is published here: Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap The latest updates to that page (as of Sept. 19, 2012) state (emphasis added): Java SE 6 End of Public Updates Notice After February 2013, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 6 to its public download sites. Existing Java SE 6 downloads already posted as of February 2013 will remain accessible in the Java Archive on Oracle Technology Network. Developers and end-users are encouraged to update to more recent Java SE versions that remain available for public download. For enterprise customers, who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6 or older versions, long term support is available through Oracle Java SE Support . What does this mean for Oracle E-Business Suite users? EBS users fall under the category of "enterprise users" above.  Java is an integral part of the Oracle E-Business Suite technology stack, so EBS users will continue to receive Java SE 6 updates from February 2013 to the end of Java SE 6 Extended Support in June 2017. In other words, nothing changes for EBS users after February 2013.  EBS users will continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6 until the end of Java SE 6 Extended Support in June 2017. How can EBS customers obtain Java 6 updates after the public end-of-life? EBS customers can download Java 6 patches from My Oracle Support.  For a complete list of all Java SE patch numbers, see: All Java SE Downloads on MOS (Note 1439822.1) Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JRE 7 for Windows desktop clients? This upgrade is highly recommended but remains optional while Java 6 is covered by Extended Support. Updates will be delivered via My Oracle Support, where you can continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JRE 6 desktop clients.  Java 6 is covered by Extended Support until June 2017.  All E-Business Suite customers must upgrade to JRE 7 by June 2017. Coexistence of JRE 6 and JRE 7 on Windows desktops The upgrade to JRE 7 is highly recommended for EBS users, but some users may need to run both JRE 6 and 7 on their Windows desktops for reasons unrelated to the E-Business Suite. Most EBS configurations with IE and Firefox use non-static versioning by default. JRE 7 will be invoked instead of JRE 6 if both are installed on a Windows desktop. For more details, see "Appendix B: Static vs. Non-static Versioning and Set Up Options" in Notes 290807.1 and 393931.1. Applying Updates to JRE 6 and JRE 7 to Windows desktops Auto-update will keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with JRE 7 installed. Auto-update will only keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with both JRE 6 and 7 installed.  JRE 6 users are strongly encouraged to apply the latest Critical Patch Updates as soon as possible after each release.
