  • Why is .NET faster than C++ in this case?

    -edit- I LOVE SLaks comment. "The amount of misinformation in these answers is staggering." :D Calm down guys. Pretty much all of you were wrong. I DID make optimizations. It turns out whatever optimizations I made wasn't good enough. I ran the code in GCC using gettimeofday (I'll paste code below) and used g++ -O2 file.cpp and got slightly faster results then C#. Maybe MS didn't create the optimizations needed in this specific case but after downloading and installing mingw I was tested and found the speed to be near identical. Justicle Seems to be right. I could have sworn I use clock on my PC and used that to count and found it was slower but problem solved. C++ speed isn't almost twice as slower in the MS compiler. When my friend informed me of this I couldn't believe it. So I took his code and put some timers onto it. Instead of Boo I used C#. I constantly got faster results in C#. Why? The .NET version was nearly half the time no matter what number I used.   • Popup extender "frozen" on code-behind exception.

    Hi, In a C#/ASP.NET project, we're using an ajax modalpopupextender to display a "Processing..." message to the users. We're displaying it using a Javascript call in the code of the ASP.NET page. Then, in the code behind, we're doing some database operation, and hide again the popup using "popup.hide();" The problem is that when an exception occurs in the code behind, the popup is still displayed and the application does not handle errors as per the "customErrors" tag of the web.config. Any idea on how to deal with this kind of issues? Thanks, David

  • Ubuntu: disable udev's persistent-net-generator.rules

    I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server edition and I am modifying /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules to define my own mappings of ethernet interfaces to MAC addresses; that file is initially generated by rules in /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules at system installation time (or at the first boot, I actually don't know and it doesn't matter here). How can I be sure that my edited version will never ever be overwritten by anything? Removing the persistent-net-generator, as suggested on some websites, is not the Right Thing™ to do as told by comments in the file itself: it will be overwritten by any update of the udev package. I'm looking for a more formally correct way to disable it. Is it enough to just make sure that /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules does exist? Maybe there are other events that could trigger its regeneration? (eg. adding or removing ethernet interfaces to the system?)

    Referring: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q218180/, there is a known issue in IIS4/5/6 whereby it will reveal the internal IP of a web server in the content-location field of the HTTP header. We have IIS 6. I have tried the fix suggested, but it has not worked. The website is configured to send all requests to ASP.NET, and I am wondering if this is why the fix, which addresses IIS configuration, has not worked for us. If this is the case, how would we fix this in ASP.NET? We need to fix this issue in order to pass a security audit.

    as stated both of these do not work: Textbox1.Focus(); or Page.SetFocus(Textbox1); any idea why? this is the control itself: <asp:TextBox ID="Textbox1" ClientIDMode="Static" CssClass="Textbox1" runat="server" MaxLength="80"></asp:TextBox> it is located on a page, two master pages deep. the form tag is on the second master page, so that is why the focus is not being set there. not working in: ie, firefox, chrome and safari (all latest versions). help! thnx

It works anywhere but inside of this GridView. In other words, I know the plugin works.     Are there any .NET APis that can read/update the system.webServer node in web.config? I know I can do it via reading/parsing the web.config file as xml but that's awkward. To read/update the system.web node in .NET 2 I can use: HttpModulesSection httpModulesSection = (HttpModulesSection)configuration.GetSection("system.web/httpModules"); But is there any API based way of accessing system.web/modules using .NET 2? I have to reference the .NET 2 version of system.web.configuration because I don't know in advance if my web app will be run on a server with .NET 2 or 3.5. So it is limited to .NET 2 API calls only.   • problem with pagestate when two links in aspx page

    I have two links in my aspx page. one link "A" when i click it ...it is downloading some document when i click it other link "B" when I click it ....it redirects me to some other page. Both links triggers function from code behind. Both links works fine when i first come onto page but when i click A it shows me message to download it "open" "save" "cancel" problem is when i click cancel I remain on the same page but now no links work neither link A nor link B. I guess there is some problem with the state my page is in . How i can avoid this?   • IIS 6 ASP.NET default handler-mappings and virtual directories

    I'm having a problem with setting a default mapping in IIS 6. I want to secure *.HTML files with ASP.NET forms authentication. The problem seems to have something to do with using virtual directories to hold the html files. Here's how it's setup: sample directory tree c:/inetpub/ (nothing in here) d:/web_files/my_web_apps d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app1/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app2/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/ app1 and app2 both access the same html_files directory, so html_files is set as a virtual directory in the web apps in IIS... sample web directory tree //app1/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) //app2/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) If I put a file called test.html in the root of //app1/ and then add the default mapping to the asp.net dll and setup my security on the root folder with deny="?", then accessing test.html works exactly as expected. If I'm not authenticated, it takes me to the login.aspx page, and if I am authenticated then it displays test.html. If I put the test.html file in the html_files directory I get a totally different behavior. Now the login.aspx page loads and I stuck some code in to check if I was still authenticated: <p>autheticated: <%=User.Identity.IsAuthenticated%></p> I figured it would say false because why else would it bother to load the login page? Nope, it says true - so it knows i'm authenticated, but it won't give me access to the test.html file. I've spent several hours on this and haven't been able to solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on google to see if I've missed something. Fingers crossed.

    Greetings my wonderful StackOverflow family :) I grew up using Windows and switched to OSX as a Computer Science major in College. I've recently started my first real software developer job, and have a ThinkPad and Windows XP for developing ASP.NET / MS SQL applications (Visual Studio 2008). Question: Basically, I am wondering if any developers out there have had real success creating ASP.NET applications on a Mac using a VM? I've been fighting with Parallels 5 all week and finally have Windows 7 and VS 2008 running but my hot-keys are all screwed up. Is it worth the work to keep beating this thing into submission? Should I give up? Should I give Mono a try instead? Thanks Folks, I can't wait to see what you all think!

  • Remove a users password using "net" command
