• Excel 2002 disappears with no error message

  Excel 2002 closes about 30 seconds after I open it. No further action has to be taken; I open the program, wait a little while, and the window and process just disappears. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Office 2002 Pro installed. Recently, Outlook 2007 was added to the computer (previously not installed at all.) Word 2002 works fine. Excel 2002 also works fine on another computer with a similar configuration. Things I've already checked for or tried: Verified that no add-ins are enabled. Repairing the installation. Uninstalling and reinstalling. Rename %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Excel I'm guessing that it is trying to load a component that doesn't exist and failing, but I don't know how to proceed.   A new version of Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.7 with Adaptive Case Management (ACM) is now available, so what will that mean for requirements gathering? BPM project requirements can be documented using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN 2.0). For ACM, there is a new notation in the works. It is called Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN). For now, this notation isn’t included as a modeling tool in the new version of Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.7 with ACM, but it is possible that a modeling tool could be included in a future release. What is CMMN? CMMN is a standard intended to capture the common elements that Case Management Products use, the same way that BPMN is a standard for BPM products (such as Oracle BPM). CMMN is created by the Object Management Group (OMG) and is still in the beta version. In April 2014, OMG released the second beta version the CMMN 1.0, and the most recent version is available here. CMMN captures some of the elements that are commonly used when talking about ACM such as Cases, Milestones, and Tasks. It also introduces some elements that you may not automatically hear when talking about ACM such as Stages, Events, and Decorators. • Oracle BPM overview and roadmap session on Monday, October 1st

  Bhagat Nainani and I, Manoj Das, will present a session on Oracle BPM overview and road map on Monday, October 1 2012, from 12:15-1:15 PM at Moscone South - 308. Since last OpenWorld, many good things have happened. Many customers have gone live with their BPM 11g deployments, some of whom were nominated for the Innovation Awards. From a product perspective, we delivered 11.1.1.6 and 11.1.1.7 is just around the corner. We will discuss some of the highlights related to both customer successes and product features. In particular, we will present some of the exciting new capabilities that we are introducing in 11.1.1.7 around business analyst driven model-to-execution, more comprehensive unified BPM suite, more flexible and manageable BPM. Another significant development is the release of Process Accelerators. We have not only released accelerators, we have ourselves deployed and are using them internally. • How do I overclock a dual core processor?

  This is a serious problem. I want to speed up my compilation process. I have never been especially fond of overclocking, however my current compilation time for my project makes my crazy! I found information about which parameters I should change to overclock and which values are safe. However, I have one basic problem. I don't have the ability to change this option in my BIOS. It is possible that these options have been blocked by the system administrators? Getting a faster processor is not an option. How do I edit the proper values to overclock my CPU. Do I need to flash my bios to another version? My specs: Entium Dual-Core Cpu E5400 @2.7GHz Asrock motherboard 4GB RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

• Solaris disk I/O spike... which monitoring tools do I need?

  Hi all, My Solaris 10 websever / database server disk io keeps spiking at intermittent times. Using iostat -xtc 5 the reads / sec will jump from 3.0 to 1450.0 and %busy will jump to 98% The apache access log doesn't indicate anything out of the ordinary. In other words, requests aren't any higher than usual. top doesn't generate anything useful. The cpu usage is fine with mysql using about 20% and nothing else to speak of really. What monitoring tool should I be using to see what process is using excessive disk I/O? or if there are any other suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks

  When reformatting, Windows XP ask me to choose from these formatting methods. (Implying that ALL of them are "formatting methods"... even #3) Reformat using NTFS (quick) Reformat using NTFS Leave the current file-system intact (no changes) What choice #3 really mean? Does it mean: A. Leave the current file-system (whatever file-system is already in use) and reformat to match that. (ie. If you current have NTFS, reformat to that again. If you currently have FAT32, reformat to that again. That is: Reformat without changing to a different file-system. Leave the current type.) or... B. Do absolutely nothing. Don't format. Don't delete any of my files. Abort the formatting process entirely.

• Loadbalancing Questions

  I have been learning networking for about 4 months. Wrote a single standalone Multiplayer server and succeeded with authoritative approach. Now I want to extend it by splitting the single server into clusters to allow even more players to log in to avoid latency issues. Now I have protyped the Loadbalancing server and its running pretty good so far. This is my architecture, I have a master server which acts as a proxy, every sub servers(chat, login, game) connect to the master server as well as all the clients. when a client connects, Client Request: Send Request - MS(Master) - Decides which SS(SubServer) to forward to - Forwards Request to SS - SS - Analyze Message - Send Response to MS - Decides which Client to forward to - Forwards Response to Client Well, it looks like its going through lots of stages. it takes double the time to process the message than a single server approach. i feel like my model isnt the best or i may be wrong. is there any better model or the one they use in professional games? I still want a Master-SubServer approach. I just want to clarify that I'm going in the right direction before writing all my codes. Thanks for any answer :)

• Limit disk I/O one program creates?

  Hardware: one virtualization server. Dual Nehalem, 24GB RAM, 2 TB mirrored HD. Software: Debian, KVM, virt-manager on the server with several virtual machines that use Linux too. 2 TB Disk is a big LVM, each VM gets a logical volume and makes its own partitions in that. Problem: One of the programs that runs on one of the VMs creates huge disk load. This never was an issue, because the program never ran on such a powerful hardware. Now the CPUs are fast, and lots of I/O is the result. We cant do much against that at the moment, because the tool is a black box. On the other hand, the speedy computation is welcome. The program creates about 5 GB of temp files which get overwritten during the next iteration. Question: How can we limit the disk I/O for the process?

Don't know the password to the Facebook account. I went here and made a request. Got an email within minutes and and replied to it. That was over week ago. Anyone gone through this before? How long did it take? Any way to expedite the process? Any alternate way to contact Facebook team and get some help with this?

• Unattended install of IIS 6 with PHP / FastCGI

  I'm trying to figure out the best method of installing PHP on IIS 6 unattended. I've figured that to install IIS 6 unattended I need to use sysocmgr and modify a registry key before hand to point at the correct sources folder to prevent being asked for an installation disc. The bit I'm caught up on at the moment is the process of installing FastCGI. The info I've read about installing FastCGI so far is that the installer unpacks 3 files and "registers" them with IIS. Question is, does anyone know what happens with these three files so I can handle it without using the installer? Also, if anyone has experience with the steps I need to take following the FastCGI install, I'd appreciate help.

• website attack form submission triggering emails related questions

  We are experiencing website attacks that trigger the submission of a form, and send alert emails. Normal process of form submission is to fill up a couple of text fields, and when the user is redirected, the next page processes $_POST. If $_POST exists, then the email to intended form recipients is triggered. What is happening right now, we are receiving the email of the form submission, three emails at a time with same information. The information per email is the same, but not all of the spam emails contain the same information, each batch of triggered emails has unique information. The form has no captcha, and if possible we would like to keep it this way. The website has worked fine and had no spamming problems until today. We have monitoring software for the website, but whoever is submitting this form over and over is not being recorded by the tracking software WHY IS THIS? IS THE PERSON ACTUALLY VISITING THE WEBSITE? The only suspicious visit tracked was on November 10th, and this record ALSO shows three forms submitted (this is how I identified possible first visit by attacker). Then no incidents until today. WHAT IS THE GOAL of the spam attack? Is the attacker expecting us to respond to the bogus emails? What can they achieve with repeated submission of form Why are three emails triggered in the row? Is this indicative that they may be using a script? This is a PHP website. Is there a way for a client to view the PHP code of a page? Thank you

• Smooth waypoint traversing

  There are a dozen ways I could word this question, but to keep my thoughts in line, I'm phrasing it in line with my problem at hand. So I'm creating a floating platform that I would like to be able to simply travel from one designated point to another, and then return back to the first, and just pass between the two in a straight line. However, just to make it a little more interesting, I want to add a few rules to the platform. I'm coding it to travel multiples of whole tile values of world data. So if the platform is not stationary, then it will travel at least one whole tile width or tile height. Within one tile length, I would like it to accelerate from a stop to a given max speed. Upon reaching one tile length's distance, I would like it to slow to a stop at given tile coordinate and then repeat the process in reverse. The first two parts aren't too difficult, essentially I'm having trouble with the third part. I would like the platform to stop exactly at a tile coordinate, but being as I'm working with acceleration, it would seem easy to simply begin applying acceleration in the opposite direction to a value storing the platform's current speed once it reaches one tile's length of distance (assuming that the tile is traveling more than one tile-length, but to keep things simple, let's just assume it is)- but then the question is what would the correct value be for acceleration to increment from to produce this effect? How would I find that value?

• Work around for yahoo mail slowness (using 100% cpu)

  My yahoo mail is very slow sometimes. When it is, I notice that IE8 is using 100% cpu. Using sysinternals process explorer I discovered the thread using all the cpu in IE8 has Flash in the stackwalk. I upgraded flash from 9 to 10, but the problem persists. I'm about to edit hosts to block the flash content by redirecting the yahoo and ad click dns entries. Is there some easier way to get flash to behave? The fix for the long run will be switching to gmail.

• Reading a ZFS USB drive with Mac OS X Mountain Lion

  The problem: I'm using a MacBook, mainly with Solaris 11, but something with Mac OS X (ML). The only missing thing is that Mac OS X can't read my external ZFS based USB drive, where I store all my data. So, I decided to look for a solution. Possible solution: I decided to use VirtualBox with a Solaris 11 VM as a passthrough to my data. Here are the required steps: Installing a Solaris 11 VM Install VirtualBox on your Mac OS X, add the extension pack (needed for USB) Plug your ZFS based USB drive on your Mac, ignore it when asked to initialize it. Create a VM for Solaris (bridged network), and before installing it, create a USB filter (in the settings of your Vbox VM, go to Ports, then USB, then add a new USB filter from the attached device "grey usb-connector logo with green plus sign")  Install a Solaris 11 VM, boot it, and install the Guest addition check with "ifconfg -a" the IP address of your Solaris VM Creating a path to your ZFS USB drive In MacOS X, use the "Disk Utility" to unmount the USB attached drive, and unplug the USB device. Switch back to VirtualBox, select the top of the window where your Solaris 11 is running plug your ZFS USB drive, select "ignore" if Mac OS invite you to initialize the disk In the VirtualBox VM menu, go to "Devices" then "USB Devices" and select from the dropping menu your "USB device" Connection your Solaris VM to the USB drive Inside Solaris, you might now check that your device is accessible by using the "format" cli command If not, repeat previous steps Now, with root privilege, force a zpool import -f myusbdevicepoolname because this pool was created on another system check that you see your new pool with "zpool status" share your pool with NFS: share -F NFS /myusbdevicepoolname Accessing the USB ZFS drive from Mac OS X This is the easiest step: access an NFS share from mac OS Create a "ZFSdrive" folder on your MacOS desktop from a terminal under mac OS: mount -t nfs IPadressofMySoalrisVM:/myusbdevicepoolname  /Users/yourusername/Desktop/ZFSdrive et voila ! you might access your data, on a ZFS USB drive, directly from your Mountain Lion Desktop. You might play with the share rights in order to alter any read/write rights as needed. You might activate compression, encryption inside the Solaris 11 VM ...

• Allow WRITE access to local folders machine in 2003SBS AD

  Have a SBS2003 client with a mess of a domain that is in process of being cleaned. But, for the life of me I cannot find a setting that will allow write access to the local hard disk for domain users with redirected profiles(to the server). This is needed only for one program that will not follow a symbolic link to the network path, instead it seems to be hard coded to the %appdata% folder but only on the c: drive.... So question is how can I allow "Domain users" write access to the local %appdata% directory? I have tried setting it manually on a machine but it kept resetting to RO no matter how many times I tried. Every time I would un-check the RO property it would reset sometime right after i hit OK. But when I try to see installed wordpress in my client I see this Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. I asked it in StackOverFlow here but I couln't get the right answer. • Migrate Thunderbird 3 Saved Searches Between Accounts

  Long story short, the sysadmins have moved me to a new mailserver. In the process, they needed to create a separate account in Thunderbird and disable my old account. They took care of all of the mail migration. However, my saved search folders didn't go along for the ride. I have over 20 complex searches that I'd rather not have to reenter manually by hand. You can't drag saved searches between accounts like other folders. I tried closing Thunderbird, doing a find/replace in virtualFolders.dat in my Thunderbird profile folder, saving that file, and reopening Thunderbird, but that didn't appear to do anything. I'm assuming the search folders are also saved in one of the sqlite databases... does anyone know where to look?

• organization of DLL linked functions

  So this is a code organization question. I got my basic code working but when I expand it will be terrible. I have a DLL that I don't have a .lib for. Therefore I have to use the whole loadLibrary()/getprocaddress() combo. it works great. But this DLL that i'm referencing at 100+ functions. my current process is (1) typedef a type for the function. or typedef short(_stdcall *type1)(void); then (2) assign a function name that I want to use such as type1 function_1, then (3) I do the whole LoadLibrary, then do something like function_1 = (type1)GetProcAddress(hinstLib, "_mangled_funcName@5"); normally I would like to do all of my function definitions in a header file but because I have to do use the load library function, its not that easy. the code will be a mess. Right now i'm doing (1) and (2) in a header file and was considering making a function in another .cpp file to do the load library and dump all of the (3)'s in there. I considered using a namespace for the functions so I can use them in the main function and not have to pass over to the other function. Any other tips on how to organize this code to where it is readable and organized? My goals are to be able to use function_1 as a regular function in the main code. if I have to a ref::function_1 that would be okay but I would prefer to avoid it. this code for all practical purposes is just plane C at the moment. thanks in advance for any advice!

• print jobs are held until the VirtualBox guest OS is reboot

  Here is the setup: VirtualBox 4.1.20 (which the Help window describes as 4.1.12_Ubuntu) Extension Pack 4.1.20 (for USB support) Windows 7 Home Premium as a guest operating system on VirtualBox Ubuntu 12.04 with dist-upgrade's to September 2012 as the host operating system. Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P205b, which I believe is a GDI printer, connected via USB. The problem is that often print jobs will sit in the print queue and nothing comes out of the printer. The printer status for the first item in the queue will be Printing even though nothing happens. Then upon rebooting Windows, the print jobs get printed, seemingly simultaneous to the rebooting process; that is as Windows reloads. One way to avoid this problem is to reboot Windows with the printer cable attached, and then submit the print jobs. The print jobs get printed in a timely manner. Perhaps VirtualBox has a problem with USB being plug-n-play and hot pluggable. It's not convenient to have the printer plugged in when Windows boots because: One, this is a laptop, and Two, I may be boot Windows for a purpose other than printing and not anticipate needing to print. Are there any recommendable fixes for this problem?

• MBP becomes very hot after using Xcode

  Hardware: MBP early 2011 version OS: Mountain lion App: Xcode 4.5.2 Problem: Every time when I start Xcode, 2 or 3 processes called "git" start running. But when I quit Xcode the "git" process won't quit and are still using a lot of CPU. Then the computer becomes quite hot and the battery gets drained very quickly. If I manually kill these processes the problem is gone. I tried to reinstall Xcode several times but the problem comes back every time. It drives me crazy. Any help will be appreciated!
