• INSERT INTO in MS Access 2010 SOMETIMES GETS ERROR: 3073 Operation must use an updateable query

  I get the ERROR: 3073 Operation must use an updateable query SOMETIMES, while performing an INSERT statment. I have no problem on my windows 7 PC, but the person I am writing this for sometimes gets the error. She also has MS Access 2010 on Windows 7. As I said I have never got it on my PC, and she only gets it sometimes. The code will insert a number of rows and then through the error, and other times not through the erro at all. The error occurs if I have the code and data in one .mdb file or seperate files. I'm using Coredata in my app, on first launch I download a data file and insert over 500 objects (each with 60 attributes) - fast, no problem. Each subsequent launch I download an updated version of the file, from which I need to update all existing objects' attributes (except maybe 5 attributes) and create new ones for items which have been added to the downloaded file. So, first launch I get 500 objects.. say a week later my file now contains 507 items.. I create two arrays, one for existing and one for downloaded. And if with JPA you can't do a batch update, what if I don't use transaction, and just use the following flow: em = emf.getEntityManager // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) ... em.close() How does this compare to batch update with regard to performance, and compare to a single transaction commit, measured by RPC calls to datastore server, CPU cycles per request, or so. Does every call to em.persist(..) before em.close() trigger a RPC call to the datastore server? Thanks very much for any response!

• MySQL Insert Query Randomly Takes a Long Time

  I am using MySQL to manage session data for my PHP application. When testing the app, it is usually very quick and responsive. However, seemingly randomly the response will stall before finally completing after a few seconds. I have narrowed the problem down to the session write query which looks something like this: INSERT INTO Session VALUES('lvg0p9peb1vd55tue9nvh460a7', '1275704013', '') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE sessAccess='1275704013',sessData=''; The slow query log has this information: Query_time: 0.524446 Lock_time: 0.000046 Rows_sent: 0 Rows_examined: 0 This happens about 1 out of every 10 times. The query usually only takes ~0.0044 sec. The table is InnoDB with about 60 rows. sessId is the primary key with a BTREE index. Since this is accessed on every page view, it is clearly not an acceptable execution time. Why is this happening? Update: Table schema is: sessId:varchar(32), sessAccess:int(10), sessData:text

  I'm getting started with Fluent NHibernate, and NHibernate in general. I'm trying to do something that I feel is pretty basic, but I cant quite get it to work. I'm trying to add a new entry to a simple table. Here's the Entity class. public class Product { public Product() { id = 0; } public virtual int id {get; set;} public virtual string description { get; set; } } Here's its mapping. public class ProductMap : ClassMap<Product> { public ProductMap() { Id(p => p.id).GeneratedBy.Identity().UnsavedValue(0); Map(p => p.description); } } I've tried that with and without the additional calls after Id(). And the insert code: var p = new Product() { description = "Apples" }; using (var s = _sf.CreateSession()) { s.Save(new_product); s.Flush(); } where _sf is a properly configured SessionSource. When I execute this code, I get: NHibernate.AssertionFailure : null identifier, which makes sense based on the SQL that NHibernate is executing: INSERT INTO "Product" (description) VALUES (@p0);@p0 = 'Apples' It doesnt seem to be trying to set the Id field, which seems ok (on its face) since the DB should generate that. But its not, I think. There is no problem to insert a new contact when phone book is empty but when I did it 2nd time some fileds like TEL, EMAIL are doubled and tripped etc. but N, FN, ORG are ok (one copy). After getting and advice of other member this forum I updated a contact first and then ContentProviderResult[] returned uri's with null then I do an insert action and it went ok but after that I made an update and all contacts are aggregated into one - i got 1 contact insted 3 which existed in phone book. This one was damaged, the contact fields are randomly built. I set Google account.   1-)For sorted array I have used Binary Search. We know that the worst case complexity for SEARCH operation in sorted array is O(lg N), if we use Binary Search, where N are the number of items in an array. What is the worst case complexity for the search operation in the array that includes duplicate values, using binary search?? Will it be the be the same O(lg N)?? Please correct me if I am wrong!! Also what is the worst case for INSERT operation in sorted array using binary search?? My guess is O(N).... is that right?? 2-) For unsorted array I have used Linear search. Now we have an unsorted array that also accepts duplicate element/values. What are the best worst case complexity for both SEARCH and INSERT operation. I think that we can use linear search that will give us O(N) worst case time for both search and delete operations. Can we do better than this for unsorted array and does the complexity changes if we accepts duplicates in the array.

Every time a bookmark is changed, I need the link_count to be changed as needed. I have a SqlStringCommand and the sql is constructed using StringBuilder in the forms of "insert into table (column1, column2, column3) values (@param1-X, @param2-X, @parm3-X)"+" " where "X" represents a "for loop" about 700 rows StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for(int i=0; i<700; i++) { sb.Append("insert into table (column1, column2, column3) values (@param1-"+i+", @param2-"+i, +",@parm3-"+i+") " ); } followed by constructing a command object injecting all the parameters w/ values into it. Essentially, 700 rows with 3 parameters, I ended up with 2100 parameters for this "one sql" Statement. • LinqToSQL Double Insert issue

  I have a WCF service with an object structure similar to this: public class MyClass { public List<MySubItem> SubItems { get; set; } } public class MySubItem { public List<MySubSubItem> SubSubItems { get; set; } } public class MySubSubItem { public string DataValue { get; set; } } public class MyClassDAL { public void InsertMyClass(MyClass myClass) { ctx.MyClasses.InsertOnSubmit(myClass); ctx.SubmitChanges(); } } Sometimes my client will call in with a MyClass that submits only half of the values that it has in the list SubSubItems. Later it calls the insert with the rest of the list. The problem is that when it does this I get a Primary Key violation. The reason is that it is trying to insert the MySubItem again (because there are more items in the SubSubItems owned by the same MySubItem object). How do I deal with this? Do I just call an Update? Do I have to try to separate them out (updates from inserts)? SQL Server 2008 has a really cool Merge functionally. Is there some way to access that from LinqToSQL?

• Grouped UITableView Footer Sometimes Hidden On Quick Scroll

  OK, this one is a puzzler. There is one similar post but it's not similar enough to count, so I'm posting this one. :) I've got a grouped UITableView with a header and footer. The footer includes two UIButton views, side-by-side. Nothing major. Now … there is a toggle button in a UIToolbar at the bottom for more/less info in this table view. So I build my index paths to delete/insert with fade row animation, all the usual ingredients, sandwiched between beginUpdates and endUpdates calls on the UITableView … and this works fine! In also happens that my footer can sometimes be pushed off past the bottom of the display. Here's where it gets weird. If I drag my finger up the display, scrolling the view upward, I should see that footer eventually, right? Well … most of the time I do. BUT, if I flick my finger up, for a faster scroll, the footer is missing. Even if you try to tap in that area - no response. However, if I scroll back down again, just to hide that footer (or rather hide the area where the footer would normally be), and then scroll back up, it's there once again! This only happens when inserting rows. If I delete rows, the footer stays put … unless of course it was already hidden and I didn't perform the aforementioned incantation to get it back. :) I am trying to trace through this, but to no avail. I suppose tracing through scroll operations is a bit of a crazy proposition! Perhaps some creative logging … suggestions, anyone? Or is this a known issue in 3.1 where row insert/deletes are concerned? (I don't recall seeing it until 3.1.)

I have two SQL statements: - the first enters information from a form into the database. - the second takes data from the database entered above, sends an email and then logs the details of the transaction The problem is that it a appears that a single quote is triggering a MySQL error on the second entry only!!! The first instance works without issue but the second instance triggers the mysql_error(). Does the data from a form get handled differently from the data captured in a form? • SQL statement to split a table based on a join

  I have a primary table for Articles that is linked by a join table Info to a table Tags that has only a small number of entries. I want to split the Articles table, by either deleting rows or creating a new table with only the entries I want, based on the absence of a link to a certain tag. There are a few million articles. How can I do this? Not all of the articles have any tag at all, and some have many tags. Example: table Articles primary_key id table Info foreign_key article_id foreign_key tag_id table Tags primary_key id It was easy for me to segregate the articles that do have the match right off the bat, so I thought maybe I could do that and then use a NOT IN statement but that is so slow running it's unclear if it's ever going to finish. I did that with these commands: INSERT INTO matched_articles SELECT * FROM articles a LEFT JOIN info i ON a.id = i.article_id WHERE i.tag_id = 5; INSERT INTO unmatched_articles SELECT * FROM articles a WHERE a.id NOT IN (SELECT m.id FROM matched_articles m); If it makes a difference, I'm on Postgres.

• nhibernate fluent repository pattern insert problem

  I am trying to use Fluent NHibernate and the repository pattern. I would like my business layer to not be knowledgeable of the data persistence layer. Ideally I would pass in an initialized domain object to the insert method of the repository and all would be well. Where I run into problems is if the object being passed in has a child object. For example say I want to insert an a new order for a customer, and the customer is a property of the order object. I would like to do something like this: Customer c = new Customer; c.CustomerId = 1; Order o = new Order; o.Customer = c; repository.InsertOrder(o); The problem is that using NHiberate the CustomerId field is only privately settable so I can not set it directly like this. so what I have ended up doing is have my repository have an interface of Order InsertOrder(int customerId) where all the foreign keys get passed in as parameters. Somehow this just doesn't seem right. The other approach was to use the NHibernate session variable to load a customer object in my business model and then have the order passed in to the repository but this defeats my persistence ignorance ideal. Should I throw this persistence ignorance out the window or am I missing something here? Thanks

  Hi! I have a Company class which have a collection of Address. Here's my Address class:(written top of my head): public class Address { public string Civic; public string Street; public City City; } This is the City class: public class City { public int Id; public string Name; public string SearchableName{ get { //code } } } Address is persisted in his own table and have a reference to the city's ID. City are also persisted in is own table. The City's SearchableName is used to prevent some mistakes in the city the user type. For example, if the city name is "Montréal", the searchable name will be "montreal". If the city name is "St. John", the searchable name will be "stjohn", etc. It's used mainly to to search and to prevent having multiple cities with a typo in it. When I save an address, I want an listener/event to check if the city is already in the database. If so, cancel the insert and replace the user's city with the database one. I would like the same behavior with updates. I tried this: public bool OnPreInsert(PreInsertEvent @event) { City entity = (@event.Entity as City); if (entity != null) { if (entity.Id == 0) { var city = (from c in @event.Session.Linq<City>() where c.SearchableName == entity.SearchableName select c).SingleOrDefault(); if (city != null) { //don't know what to do here return true; } } } return false; } But if there's already a City in the database, I don't know what to do. @event.Entity is readonly, if I set @event.Entity.Id, I get an "null identifier" exception.
