• Android - Saving an object in onSaveInstanceState?

- by Donal Rafferty
I have created a small XML parsing application for Android that displays information in a listview and then allows a user to click on the list view and a dialog with further info will pop up. The problem is that when the screen orientation is changed when a dialog screen is open I get a null pointer error. The null pointer occurs on the following line: if(setting.getAddForPublicUserNames() == 1){ This line is part of my dialogPrepare method: @Override public void onPrepareDialog(int id, Dialog dialog) { switch(id) { case (SETTINGS_DIALOG) : afpunText = ""; if(setting.getAddForPublicUserNames() == 1){ afpunText = "Yes"; } else{ afpunText = "No"; } String Text = "Login Settings: " + "\n" + "Password: " + setting.getPassword() + "\n" + "Server: " + setting.getServerAddress() + "\n" + "Register: " + setting.getRegistrarAddress() + "\n" + "Realm: " + setting.getRealm() + "\n" + "Public UserNames: " + afpunText + "\n" + "Preference Settings: " + "\n" + "Request VDN: " + setting.getRequestVDN() + "\n" + "Handover Settings: " + "\n" + "Enable Handover: " + setting.getEnableHandover() + "\n" + "Hand Over Number: " + setting.getHandoverNum() + "\n"; AlertDialog settingsDialog = (AlertDialog)dialog; settingsDialog.setTitle("Auth ID: " + setting.getUserName()); tv = (TextView)settingsDialog.findViewById(R.id.detailsTextView); if (tv != null) tv.setText(Text); break; } } So the error is that my variable setting is null after the screen orientation changes. I have tried to use the onSaveInstance state methods to fix that as follows: @Override public void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle savedInstanceState) { for(int i = 0; i < settings.size(); i++){ savedInstanceState.putString("Username"+i, settings.get(i).getUserName()); savedInstanceState.putString("Password"+i, settings.get(i).getPassword()); savedInstanceState.putString("Server"+i, settings.get(i).getServerAddress()); savedInstanceState.putString("Registrar"+i, settings.get(i).getRegistrarAddress()); savedInstanceState.putString("Realm"+i, settings.get(i).getRealm()); savedInstanceState.putInt("PUserNames"+i, settings.get(i).getAddForPublicUserNames()); savedInstanceState.putString("RequestVDN"+i, settings.get(i).getRequestVDN()); savedInstanceState.putString("EnableHandOver"+i, settings.get(i).getEnableHandover()); savedInstanceState.putString("HandOverNum"+i, settings.get(i).getHandoverNum()); } super.onSaveInstanceState(savedInstanceState); } and @Override public void onRestoreInstanceState(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onRestoreInstanceState(savedInstanceState); //Check to see if this is required // Restore UI state from the savedInstanceState. // This bundle has also been passed to onCreate. for(int i = 0; i<settings.size(); i++){ settings.get(i).setUserName(savedInstanceState.getString("Username"+i)); settings.get(i).setPassword(savedInstanceState.getString("Password"+i)) ; settings.get(i).setServerAddress(savedInstanceState.getString("Server"+i)); settings.get(i).setRegistrarAddress(savedInstanceState.getString("Registrar"+i)); settings.get(i).setRealm(savedInstanceState.getString("Realm"+i)); settings.get(i).setAddForPublicUserNames(savedInstanceState.getInt("PUserNames"+i)); settings.get(i).setRequestVDN(savedInstanceState.getString("RequestVDN"+i)); settings.get(i).setEnableHandover(savedInstanceState.getString("EnableHandOver"+i)); settings.get(i).setHandoverNum(savedInstanceState.getString("HandOverNum"+i)); } } However the error still remains, I think I have to save the selected setting from what was selected from the ListView? But how do I save a setting object in onSavedInstance?

• Custom listview entry works in JB not in Gingerbread

- by Andy
I have a ListFragment with a custom ArrayAdapter where I am overiding getView() to provide a custom View for the list item. private class DirListAdaptor extends ArrayAdapter<DirItem> { @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View aView = convertView; if (aView == null) { LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater) getContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); // TODO: can we not access textViewResourceId? aView = vi.inflate(R.layout.dir_list_entry, parent, false); } etc... Here is the dir_list_entry.xml: <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight" android:paddingLeft="?android:attr/listPreferredItemPaddingLeft" android:paddingRight="?android:attr/listPreferredItemPaddingRight"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/dir_list_icon" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_marginRight="6dp" android:src="@drawable/ic_launcher" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/dir_list_details" android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceListItem" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/dir_list_icon" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_alignParentRight="true"   • Layout problem: scrollview inside a table, inside a custom dialog

- by Sean
I have a layout problem which I can't fix. I've looked through many posts on here, and mine seems to be unique enough to post a question. I've created a custom Dialog which programmatically creates a 3 row table. The top and bottom rows have text, while the middle row contains a ScrollView, which contains a LinearLayout. That LinearLayout then contains some number of views (TextView in this example). Since I'm doing this programmatically, see the XML pseudocode below, and the actual code below that. What I would like to happen, is that when the height of the contained content in the LinearLayout gets too big, the ScrollView does its job, and the header and footer TextView's are always visible. The problem is that when the dialog gets big enough, the ScrollView appears to take over the whole dialog, and my footer TextView disappears off the screen. What can I do to make sure the footer TextView never disappears, but the ScrollView can still function? See the following image links: Footer visible on the left, gone on the right: http://img690.imageshack.us/i/screenshotss.png/ <TableLayout> <TableRow> <TextView> </TableRow> <TableRow> <ScrollView> <LinearLayout> <TextView/> <TextView/> <TextView/> ... </LinearLayout> </ScrollView> </TableRow> <TableRow> <TextView> </TableRow> </TableLayout> Here's the code: public class DialogScrollTest extends Dialog { public DialogScrollTest(Context ctx){ super(ctx); setTitle(""); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); TableLayout table = new TableLayout(ctx); TableRow row; TextView text; row = new TableRow(ctx); { text = new TextView(ctx); text.setText("TestTop"); row.addView(text); } table.addView(row); row = new TableRow(ctx); { ScrollView scroll = new ScrollView(ctx); { LinearLayout linear = new LinearLayout(ctx); linear.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); for(int t=0; t<32; ++t){ text = new TextView(ctx); text.setText("TestScroll"); linear.addView(text); } scroll.addView(linear); } row.addView(scroll); } table.addView(row); row = new TableRow(ctx); { text = new TextView(ctx); text.setText("TestBottom"); row.addView(text); } table.addView(row); this.setContentView(table); } }

• Multiple "pages" in GWT with human friendly URLs

- by Andreas Borglin
Hi. I'm playing with a GWT/GAE project which will have three different "pages", although it is not really pages in a GWT sense. The top views (one for each page) will have completely different layouts, but some of the widgets will be shared. One of the pages is the main page which is loaded by the default url (http://www.site.com), but the other two needs additional URL information to differentiate the page type. They also need a name parameter, (like http://www.site.com/project/project-name. There are at least two solutions to this that I'm aware of. Use GWT history mechanism and let page type and parameters (such as project name) be part of the history token. Use servlets with url-mapping patterns (like /project/*) The first choice might seem obvious at first, but it has several drawbacks. First, a user should be able to easily remember and type URL directly to a project. It is hard to produce a human friendly URL with history tokens. Second, I'm using gwt-presenter and this approach would mean that we need to support subplaces in one token, which I'd rather avoid. Third, a user will typically stay at one page, so it makes more sense that the page information is part of the "static" URL. Using servlets solves all these problems, but also creates other ones. So my first questions is, what is the best solution here? If I would go for the servlet solution, new questions pop up. It might make sense to split the GWT app into three separate modules, each with an entry point. Each servlet that is mapped to a certain page would then simply forward the request to the GWT module that handles that page. Since a user typically stays at one page, the browser only needs to load the js for that page. Based on what I've read, this solution is not really recommended. I could also stick with one module, but then GWT needs to find out which page it should display. It could either query the server or parse the URL itself. If I stick with one GWT module, I need to keep the page information stored on server side. Naturally I thought about sessions, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to mix page information with user data. A session usually lives between user login and logout, but in this case it would need different behavior. Would it be bad practise to handle this via sessions? The one GWT module + servlet solution also leads to another problem. If a user goes from a project page to the main page, how will GWT know that this has happened? The app will not be reloaded, so it will be treated as a simple state change. It seems rather ineffecient to have to check page info for every state change. Anyone care to guide me out of the foggy darkness that surrounds me? :-)

• C# asp.net EF MVC postgresql error 23505: Duplicate key violates unique constraint

- by user2721755
EDIT: It was issue with database table - dropping and recreating table id column did the work. Problem solved. I'm trying to build web application, that is connected to postgresql database. Results are displaying in view with Kendo UI. When I'm trying to add new row (with Kendo UI 'Add new record' button), I get error 23505: 'Duplicate key violates unique constraint'. My guess is, that EF takes id to insert from the beginning, not the last one, because after 35 (it's number of rows in table) tries - and errors - adding works perfectly. Can someone help me to understand, what's wrong? Hi all, I've "setup-a-msysgit-server-with-copssh-on-windows", following Tim Davis' guide and I was now learning how to use the git commands, following Jason Meridth's guide, and I have managed to get everything working fine, but now I can't pass the push command. • Ivy resolve not working with dynamic artifact

- by richever
I've been using Ivy a bit but I seem to still have a lot to learn. I have two projects. One is a web app and the other is a library upon which the web app depends. The set up is that the library project is compiled to a jar file and published using Ivy to a directory within the project. In the web app build file, I have an ant target that calls the Ivy resolve ant task. What I'd like to do is have the web app using the dynamic resolve mode during development (on developer's local machines) and default resolve mode for test and production builds. Previously I was appending a time stamp to the library archive file so that Ivy would notice changes in file when the web app tried to resolve its dependency on it. Within Eclipse this is cumbersome because, in the web app, the project had to be refreshed and the build path tweaked every time a new library jar was published. Publishing a similarly named jar file every time would, I figure, only require developers to refresh the project. The problem is that the web app is unable to retrieve the dynamic jar file. The output I get looks something like this: resolve: [ivy:configure] :: Ivy 2.1.0 - 20090925235825 :: http://ant.apache.org/ivy/ :: [ivy:configure] :: loading settings :: file = /Users/richard/workspace/webapp/web/WEB-INF/config/ivy/ivysettings.xml [ivy:resolve] :: resolving dependencies :: com.webapp#webapp;[email protected] [ivy:resolve] confs: [default] [ivy:resolve] found com.webapp#library;latest.integration in local [ivy:resolve] :: resolution report :: resolve 142ms :: artifacts dl 0ms --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | modules || artifacts | | conf | number| search|dwnlded|evicted|| number|dwnlded| --------------------------------------------------------------------- | default | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 || 0 | 0 | --------------------------------------------------------------------- [ivy:resolve] [ivy:resolve] :: problems summary :: [ivy:resolve] :::: WARNINGS [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :: UNRESOLVED DEPENDENCIES :: [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :: com.webapp#library;latest.integration: impossible to resolve dynamic revision [ivy:resolve] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: [ivy:resolve] :::: ERRORS [ivy:resolve] impossible to resolve dynamic revision for com.webapp#library;latest.integration: check your configuration and make sure revision is part of your pattern [ivy:resolve] [ivy:resolve] :: USE VERBOSE OR DEBUG MESSAGE LEVEL FOR MORE DETAILS BUILD FAILED /Users/richard/workspace/webapp/build.xml:71: impossible to resolve dependencies: resolve failed - see output for details The web app resolve target looks like this: <target name="resolve" depends="load-ivy"> <ivy:configure file="${ivy.dir}/ivysettings.xml" /> <ivy:resolve file="${ivy.dir}/ivy.xml" resolveMode="${ivy.resolve.mode}"/> <ivy:retrieve pattern="${lib.dir}/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" type="jar" sync="true" /> </target> In this case, ivy.resolve.mode has a value of 'dynamic' (without quotes). The web app's Ivy file is simple. It looks like this: <ivy-module version="2.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/schemas/ivy.xsd"> <info organisation="com.webapp" module="webapp"/> <dependencies> <dependency name="library" rev="${ivy.revision.default}" revConstraint="${ivy.revision.dynamic}" /> </dependencies> </ivy-module> During development, ivy.revision.dynamic has a value of 'latest.integration'. While, during production or test, 'ivy.revision.default' has a value of '1.0'. Any ideas? Please let me know if there's any more information I need to supply. Thanks!

• Flex 3 - How to read data dynamically from XML

- by Brian Roisentul
Hi Everyone, I'm new at Flex and I wanted to know how to read an xml file to pull its data into a chart, using Flex Builder 3. Even though I've read and done some tutorials, I haven't seen any of them loading the data dynamically. For example, I'd like to have an xml like the following: <data> <result month="April-09"> <visitor> <value>8</value> <fullname>Brian Roisentul</fullname> <coid>C01111</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>15</value> <fullname>Visitor 2</fullname> <coid>C02222</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>20</value> <fullname>Visitor 3</fullname> <coid>C03333</coid> </visitor> </result> <result month="July-09"> <visitor> <value>15</value> <fullname>Brian Roisentul</fullname> <coid>C01111</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>6</value> <fullname>Visitor 2</fullname> <coid>C02222</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>12</value> <fullname>Visitor 3</fullname> <coid>C03333</coid> </visitor> </result> <result month="October-09"> <visitor> <value>10</value> <fullname>Brian Roisentul</fullname> <coid>C01111</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>14</value> <fullname>Visitor 2</fullname> <coid>C02222</coid> </visitor> <visitor> <value>6</value> <fullname>Visitor 3</fullname> <coid>C03333</coid> </visitor> </result> </data> and then loop through every "visitor" xml item and draw their values, and display their "fullname" when the mouse is over their line. If you need some extra info, please let me just know. Thanks, Brian

• What would cause ANY .NET application to crash immediately... except a project I create and Debug in

- by blak3r
My software recently got deployed to a customer who said that the application was crashing immediately after it started. After some initial debugging, the customer provided me remote access to one of the computers which was unable to run the application. I found that the crash wasn't specific to my application. Any application which depended on the .NET framework crashed immediately. Conveniently, Visual Studio 2008 was installed so I created a quick hello world application on it and clicked Debug. The application worked fine. But, then when I tried to execute the generated binaries in the /bin/Debug/HelloWorld.exe directory outside of visual studio it crashed. List of things i've tried (UPDATED): I checked that "Everyone" has Read&Execute permissions for c:\Windows. To test that the problem was with the .NET Framework (and not my application), I attempted to download Paint .NET on to the computers. The setup frontend crashed in the same manner. Performed a repair of the .NET framework as outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 (Boy was this fun and time consuming). No luck. Installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (before it just had .NET 3.5) Note: my application targets 2.0 so I did this more as a long shot... but i learned in the process that .NET 3.5 SP1 also updates the underlying frameworks. Ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Setup Verification Tool. This tool indicated that .NET was successfully installed. (I forget if i checked all the versions but at least 2.0 worked). Tested some mini hello world applications which were targeted for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 and both crashed in the same way. Tried launching .NET apps via windbg cmd line. Doing this did allow me invoke my simple hello world applications. So, simple .NET hello world works when invoked by windbg or by launching via debug in visual studio... but doesn't if i try to execute it standalone. I created a dump file using WinDbg. It wasn't all that revealing to me. • ASP.net roles and Projects

- by Zyphrax
EDIT - Rewrote my original question to give a bit more information Background info At my work I'm working on a ASP.Net web application for our customers. In our implementation we use technologies like Forms authentication with MembershipProviders and RoleProviders. All went well until I ran into some difficulties with configuring the roles, because the roles aren't system-wide, but related to the customer accounts and projects. I can't name our exact setup/formula, because I think our company wouldn't approve that... What's a customer / project? Our company provides management information for our customers on a yearly (or other interval) basis. In our systems a customer/contract consists of: one Account: information about the Company per Account, one or more Products: the bundle of management information we'll provide per Product, one or more Measurements: a period of time, in which we gather and report the data Extranet site setup Eventually we want all customers to be able to access their management information with our online system. The extranet consists of two sites: Company site: provides an overview of Account information and the Products Measurement site: after selecting a Measurement, detailed information on that period of time The measurement site is the most interesting part of the extranet. We will create submodules for new overviews, reports, managing and maintaining resources that are important for the research. Our Visual Studio solution consists of a number of projects. One web application named Portal for the basis. The sites and modules are virtual directories within that application (makes it easier to share MasterPages among things). What kind of roles? The following users (read: roles) will be using the system: Admins: development users :) (not customer related, full access) Employees: employees of our company (not customer related, full access) Customer SuperUser: top level managers (full access to their account/measurement) Customer ContactPerson: primary contact (full access to their measurement(s)) Customer Manager: a department manager (limited access, specific data of a measurement) What about ASP.Net users? The system will have many ASP.Net users, let's focus on the customer users: Users are not shared between Accounts SuperUser X automatically has access to all (and new) measurements User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have no role for Measurement 2 User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have a Manager role for Measurement 2 The department managers are many individual users (per Measurement), if Manager Z had a login for Measurement 1, we would like to use that login again if he participates in Measurement 2. URL structure These are typical urls in our application: http://host/login - the login screen http://host/project - the account/product overview screen (measurement selection) http://host/project/1000 - measurement (id:1000) details http://host/project/1000/planning - planning overview (for primary contact/superuser) http://host/project/1000/reports - report downloads (manager department X can only access report X) We will also create a document url, where you can request a specific document by it's GUID. The system will have to check if the user has rights to the document. The document is related to a Measurement, the User or specific roles have specific rights to the document. What's the problem? (finally ;)) Roles aren't enough to determine what a user is allowed to see/access/download a specific item. It's not enough to say that a certain navigation item is accessible to Managers. When the user requests Measurement 1000, we have to check that the user not only has a Manager role, but a Manager role for Measurement 1000. Summarized: How can we limit users to their accounts/measurements? (remember superusers see all measurements, some managers only specific measurements) How can we apply roles at a product/measurement level? (user X could be primarycontact for measurement 1, but just a manager for measurement 2) How can we limit manager access to the reports screen and only to their department's reports? All with the magic of asp.net classes, perhaps with a custom roleprovider implementation. • Vertical textes inside of table headers with respect of a JavaScript based on SVG library

- by Oleg
I use jqGrid with many columns contains Boolean information, which are displayed as checkboxes inside of table (see http://www.ok-soft-gmbh.com/VerticalHeaders/TestFixedO.htm as an example). To display information more compact I use vertical column headers. It works very well and works in jqGrid in all browsers (see my discussion with Tony Tomov in jqGrid forum http://www.trirand.com/blog/?page_id=393/feature-request/headers-with-vertical-orientation/), but in IE vertical texts looks not nice enough. I was asked from users why the texted displayed so strange. So I think about using a JavaScript based SVG library like SVG Web ( http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/ ) or Raphaël ( http://raphaeljs.com/ ). SVG is very powerful and it is difficult to find a good example is not very easy. I need only display vertical texts (-90 grad, from bottom to up) and use if possible without working in mode of absolute position. So one more times my question: I need have a possibility to display vertical texts (-90 grad rotation) inside of
element of table header. I want use a JavaScript based SVG library like SVG Web or Raphaël. The solution must support on IE6. Have somebody a good reference to example which could help me to do this? If somebody post a whole solution of the problem I would be happy. To be exact here is my current solution: I define .rotate { -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Safari, Chrome */ -moz-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Firefox */ -o-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Opera starting with 10.50 */ /* Internet Explorer: */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3); } define RotateCheckboxColumnHeaders function var RotateCheckboxColumnHeaders = function (grid, headerHeight) { // we use grid as context (if one have more as one table on tnhe page) var trHead = $("thead:first tr", grid.hdiv); var cm = grid.getGridParam("colModel"); $("thead:first tr th").height(headerHeight); headerHeight = $("thead:first tr th").height(); for (var iCol = 0; iCol < cm.length; iCol++) { var cmi = cm[iCol]; if (cmi.formatter === 'checkbox') { // we must set width of column header div BEFOR adding class "rotate" to // prevent text cutting based on the current column width var headDiv = $("th:eq(" + iCol + ") div", trHead); headDiv.width(headerHeight).addClass("rotate"); if (!$.browser.msie) { if ($.browser.mozilla) { headDiv.css("left", (cmi.width - headerHeight) / 2 + 3).css("bottom", 7); } else { headDiv.css("left", (cmi.width - headerHeight) / 2); } } else { var ieVer = jQuery.browser.version.substr(0, 3); // Internet Explorer if (ieVer !== "6.0" && ieVer !== "7.0") { headDiv.css("left", cmi.width / 2 - 4).css("bottom", headerHeight / 2); $("span", headDiv).css("left", 0); } else { headDiv.css("left", 3); } } } } }; And include a call like RotateCheckboxColumnHeaders(grid, 110); after creating jqGrid.

• FusionCharts Sharepoint And dataUrl param.

- by oivoodoo
Hi, everyone. I have problem with fusioncharts evaluation in the ASP .NET(Sharepoint Portal). I am customizing survey list for providing new view. I added to scheme.xml the next code. <View BaseViewID="4" Type="HTML" WebPartZoneID="Main" DefaultView="TRUE" DisplayName="Charts" SetupPath="pages\viewpage.aspx" ImageUrl="/_layouts/images/survey.png" Url="overview.aspx" FreeForm="TRUE" ReadOnly="TRUE">  <Toolbar Type="Standard" /> <ViewFields> </ViewFields> <ViewEmpty> <SetVar Name="HandlerUrl">/_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx</SetVar>
<param name="FlashVars" value="&chartWidth=350&chartHeight=350&debugMode=1&dataURL=
<GetVar Name="HandlerUrl" />
"/>

<embed src="/_layouts/IEFS/FusionCharts/MSCombi3D.swf" FlashVars="&chartWidth=350&chartHeight=350&debugMode=1&dataURL=
<GetVar Name="HandlerUrl" />
" quality="high" width="350" height="350" name="ChartName" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
</ViewEmpty> As you can see I've just create standard object tag of fusioncharts control(I got it from examples). But when page is rendered I can see the next following error: And I have error: INFO: XML Data provided using dataURL method. dataURL provided: ./_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx dataURL invoked: ./_layouts/IEFS/SurveyHandler.aspx?FCTime=223 ERROR: An error occurred while loading data. Please check your dataURL, by clicking on the "dataURL invoked" link above, to see if it's returing valid XML data. Common causes for error are: No URL Encoding provided for querystrings in dataURL. If your dataURL contains querystrings as parameters, you'll need to URL Encode the same. e.g., Data.asp?id=101&subId=242 should be Data%2Easp%3Fid%3D101%26subId%3D242 Different sub-domain of chart .swf and dataURL. Both need to be same owing to sandbox security. Network error My data-page(handler) is rendered valid xml data. I read this link http://www.fusioncharts.com/docs?/Debug/Basic.html, but it doesn't help me. Have ever you seen same error before? With The Best Regards, Alexander.

• Problem Registering a Generic Repository with Windsor IoC

- by Robin
I’m fairly new to IoC and perhaps my understanding of generics and inheritance is not strong enough for what I’m trying to do. You might find this to be a mess. I have a generic Repository base class: public class Repository<TEntity> where TEntity : class, IEntity { private Table<TEntity> EntityTable; private string _connectionString; private string _userName; public string UserName { get { return _userName; } set { _userName = value; } } public Repository() {} public Repository(string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; EntityTable = (new DataContext(connectionString)).GetTable<TEntity>(); } public Repository(string connectionString, string userName) { _connectionString = connectionString; _userName = userName; EntityTable = (new DataContext(connectionString)).GetTable<TEntity>(); } // Data access methods ... ... } and a SqlClientRepository that inherits Repository: public class SqlClientRepository : Repository<Client> { private Table<Client> ClientTable; private string _connectionString; private string _userName; public SqlClientRepository() {} public SqlClientRepository(string connectionString) : base(connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; ClientTable = (new DataContext(connectionString)).GetTable<Client>(); } public SqlClientRepository(string connectionString, string userName) : base(connectionString, userName) { _connectionString = connectionString; _userName = userName; ClientTable = (new DataContext(connectionString)).GetTable<Client>(); } // data access methods unique to Client repository ... } The Repository class provides some generics methods like Save, Delete, etc, that I want all my repository derived classes to share. The TEntity parameter is constrained to the IEntity interface: public interface IEntity { int Id { get; set; } NameValueCollection GetSaveRuleViolations(); NameValueCollection GetDeleteRuleViolations(); } This allows the Repository class to reference these methods within its Save and Delete methods. Unit tests work fine on mock SqlClientRepository instances as well as live unit tests on the real database. However, in the MVC context: public class ClientController : Controller { private SqlClientRepository _clientRepository; public ClientController(SqlClientRepository clientRepository) { this._clientRepository = clientRepository; } public ClientController() { } // ViewResult methods ... ... } ... _clientRepository is always null. I’m using Windor Castle as an IoC container. Here is the configuration: <component id="ClientRepository" service="DomainModel.Concrete.Repository`1[[DomainModel.Entities.Client, DomainModel]], DomainModel" type="DomainModel.Concrete.SqlClientRepository, DomainModel" lifestyle="PerWebRequest"> <parameters> <connectionString>#{myConnStr}</connectionString> </parameters> </component> I’ve tried many variations in the Windsor configuration file. I suspect it’s more of a design flaw in the above code. As I'm looking over my code, it occurs to me that when registering components with an IoC container, perhaps service must always be an interface. Could this be it? Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

• How can I install Perl's DBI on Mac OS X so Apache can find it?

- by Russell C.
I'm trying to setup a Perl development environment on my Mac laptop and have been having a really hard time getting it working. I thought I had everything configured correctly but when I try to run a sample script it is reporting errors with the DBI module and can't access the DB. Here is what is reported in the Apache error logs: [Fri Apr 30 23:11:33 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Can't locate DBI.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /Library/Perl/Updates/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level /Library/Perl/Updates/5.10.0 /System/Library/Perl/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level /System/Library/Perl/5.10.0 /Library/Perl/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level /Library/Perl/5.10.0 /Network/Library/Perl/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level /Network/Library/Perl/5.10.0 /Network/Library/Perl /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.10.0 .) at main.pm line 5. I downloaded and installed both modules manually to work with MAMP using the following commands as specified in this forum post: For DBI 1. cd /Library/Perl/DBI-1.611 2. sudo Perl Makefile.PL 3. sudo make 4. sudo make install For DBD 1. cd /Library/Perl/DBD-mysql-4.014 2. sudo Perl Makefile.PL --mysql_config=/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysql_config 3. sudo make 4. sudo make install What I noticed while running the above commands is that the files seems to be getting installed in the '/opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/' directory which doesn't seem to be one of the search directories that Apache mentions in the error at the beginning of this post. Here is what I'm seeing during the install: $ sudo make install Files found in blib/arch: installing files in blib/lib into architecture dependent library tree Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/DBI.bundle Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/dbipport.h Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/DBIXS.h Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/dbixs_rev.h Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/Driver.xst Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/Driver_xst.h Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/TASKS.pod Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBD/DBM.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBD/File.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBD/Gofer.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI/Changes.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI/DBD.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI/Profile.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI/ProxyServer.pm Installing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/DBI/PurePerl.pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBD::DBM.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBD::File.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBD::Gofer.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBI.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBI::DBD.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBI::Profile.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBI::ProxyServer.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/DBI::PurePerl.3pm Installing /opt/local/share/man/man3/TASKS.3pm Installing /opt/local/bin/dbiprof Installing /opt/local/bin/dbiproxy Writing /opt/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/auto/DBI/.packlist Appending installation info to /opt/local/lib/perl5/5.8.9/darwin-2level/perllocal.pod My question is, what am I doing wrong and how can I either 1) Get Apache to look in the right directory where the DBD & DBI modules are installed or 2) Update the way I'm installing the module to install them into one of the search directories. I honestly don't know what option makes more sense and could use guidance on that as well. As you can probably tell I'm pretty lost at the moment. Please help!!! Thanks in advance.

• How to stop OpenGL from applying blending to certain content? (cocos2d/iPhone/OpenGL)

Supporting Info: I use cocos2d to draw a sprite (graph background) on the screen (z:-1). I then use cocos2d to draw lines/points (z:0) on top of the background -- and make some calls to OpenGL blending functions before the drawing to SMOOTH out the lines. Problem: The problem is that: aside from producing smooth lines/points, calling these OpenGL blending functions seems to degrade the underlying sprite (graph background). So there is a tradeoff: I can either have (Case 1) a nice background and choppy lines/points, or I can have (Case 2) nice smooth lines/points and a degraded background. But obviously I need both. The Code: I have included code of the draw() method of the CCLayer for both cases explained above. As you can see, the code producing the difference between Case 1 and Case 2 seems to be 1 or 2 lines involving OpenGL Blending. Case 1 -- MainScene.h (CCLayer): -(void)draw{ int lastPointX = 0; int lastPointY = 0; GLfloat colorMAX = 255.0f; GLfloat valR; GLfloat valG; GLfloat valB; if([self.myGraphManager ready]){ valR = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valG = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valB = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[self.myGraphManager.currentCanvas graphPoints] objectEnumerator]; GraphPoint* object; while ((object = [enumerator nextObject])) { if(object.filled){ /*Commenting out the following two lines induces a problem of making it impossible to have smooth lines/points, but has merit in that it does not degrade the background sprite.*/ //glEnable (GL_BLEND); //glBlendFunc (GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); glHint (GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_DONT_CARE); glEnable (GL_LINE_SMOOTH); glLineWidth(1.5f); glColor4f(valR, valG, valB, 1.0); ccDrawLine(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY), ccp(object.position.x, object.position.y)); lastPointX = object.position.x; lastPointY = object.position.y; glPointSize(3.0f); glEnable(GL_POINT_SMOOTH); glHint(GL_POINT_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_NICEST); ccDrawPoint(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY)); } } } } Case 2 -- MainScene.h (CCLayer): -(void)draw{ int lastPointX = 0; int lastPointY = 0; GLfloat colorMAX = 255.0f; GLfloat valR; GLfloat valG; GLfloat valB; if([self.myGraphManager ready]){ valR = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valG = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valB = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[self.myGraphManager.currentCanvas graphPoints] objectEnumerator]; GraphPoint* object; while ((object = [enumerator nextObject])) { if(object.filled){ /*Enabling the following two lines gives nice smooth lines/points, but has a problem in that it degrades the background sprite.*/ glEnable (GL_BLEND); glBlendFunc (GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); glHint (GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_DONT_CARE); glEnable (GL_LINE_SMOOTH); glLineWidth(1.5f); glColor4f(valR, valG, valB, 1.0); ccDrawLine(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY), ccp(object.position.x, object.position.y)); lastPointX = object.position.x; lastPointY = object.position.y; glPointSize(3.0f); glEnable(GL_POINT_SMOOTH); glHint(GL_POINT_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_NICEST); ccDrawPoint(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY)); } } } }

• Installed Perl DBI Module Can't Be Found

• I'm trying to run some PHP scripts as CLI instead of over HTTP. How do I make them play nice?

- by gnfti
Hi everyone. I'm using some PHP scripts from FeedForAll to join together RSS feeds (RSSmesh) and display them as HTML (RSS2HTML). Because I intend to run these scripts fairly intensively and don't want the resulting HTTP requests and bandwidth to count towards my hosting quota, I am in the process of moving to running them on the web host's server in an umbrella PHP "batch" script, and call this script via cron (this is a Linux server, by the way). Here's a (working) sample request over HTTP: http://www.mydomain.com/a/rss2htmlcore/rss2html2.php?XMLFILE=http://www.mydomain.com/a/myapp/xmlcache/feed.xml&TEMPLATE=template.html This will produce the desired HTML output. An example of how I want this to work on the command line: /srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/rss2htmlcore/rss2html2-cli.php /srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/myapp/xmlcache/feed.xml /srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/template.html This is with the correct shebang line added to "rss2html2-cli.php". I could just as well specify the executable ("/usr/local/bin/php") in the request, I doubt it makes a difference because I am able to run another script (that I wrote myself) either way without problems. Now, RSS2HTML and RSSmesh are different in that, for starters, they include secondary files -- for example, both include an XML parser script -- and I suspect that this is where I am getting a bit in over my head. Right now I'm calling exec() from the "umbrella" batch script, like so: exec("/srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/rss2htmlcore/rss2html2-cli.php /srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/myapp/xmlcache/feed.xml /srv/customers/mycustomer#/mydomain.com/www/a/template.html", $output) But no output is being produced. What's the best way to go about this and what "gotchas" should I keep in mind? Is exec() the right way to approach this? It works fine for the other (simple) script but that writes its own output. For this I want to get the output and write it to a file from within the umbrella script if possible. I've also tried output buffering but to no avail. Do I need to pay attention to anything specific with regard to the includes? Right now they're specified in the scripts as include_once("FeedForAll_XMLParser.inc.php"); and the specified files are indeed in the same folder. Further info: -This is a Linux server. -I have no direct access to the shell, so I can't test things directly on a command line, everything is via crontab. -I will admit that support for the FeedForAll scripts leaves a lot to be desired, but I'd like to keep using their scripts if at all possible, if only because I know them and have been using them for a while. I have looked into Simplepie, but the FFA scripts do some things that I've seen no obvious solutions for with Simplepie, like limiting the number of items per individual feed (RSSmesh) or limiting the description length (RSS2HTML). -Yahoo! Pipes is out, they cache their data for too long for my application. Should you want to take a look at the code, here are the scripts as txt files. RSS2HTML2 and RSSmesh are the FeedForAll scripts, FeedForAll_XMLParser... is the included parser. Note that I have not yet amended these to handle $argv etc. I have however in "scraper-universal-rss-cli", which works fine with CLI. If anyone has any thoughts to share on this it would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

• Error in loading component property (Swing GUI Forms)

- by Christo Du Preez
For no apparent reason all my Swing GUI forms using components linked to org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Converter started generating errors when trying to open the Design View: Error Error in loading component property: [JPanel]-filterTextField-converter. Cannot load property type class org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Converter. The property cannot be loaded. Errors occurred in loading... I'm currently using Netbeans 6.8. I opened my project in Netbeans 6.7.1 and all was fine but after a while the same thing happened. Looking at the .form and .java files and comparing it to previous backups, everything looks fine. RVM is running into a certificate error when trying to download ruby 1.9.2. It looks like curl is having a certificate issue but I am not sure how to bypass it. NAy help would be great. • Need a little help with sound in a JApplet

- by jacob schuschel
I am working on a solitaire game in Java, and i need to implement sound when the desk is shuffled, card flipped, etc. I used the following sites as reference to try and get it to work, but i am getting Null Pointer Exceptions or mishandled URL exception (depending on what i tweak). here Also, i am using netbeans 6.7.1 as my IDE. I will try to break down the code and explain: package cardgame; import java.applet.*; import java.util.logging.Level; import java.util.logging.Logger; import javax.swing.JApplet; import javax.swing.*; import java.io.*; import java.net.*; /** * * @author jacob */ public class Sound extends JApplet { private AudioClip song; // Sound player private String URL = null; private URL songPath; // Sound path /* *sound_1 = shuffling cards *sound_2 = to discard *sound_3 = from discard *sound_4 = cardflip 1 *sound_5 = cardflip 2 */ Sound(String filename) { try { songPath = new URL(getCodeBase(),filename); // Get the Sound URL } catch (MalformedURLException ex) { Logger.getLogger(Sound.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } song = getAudioClip(songPath); // Load the Sound } Sound(int i) { URL = "./sounds/sound_" + i + ".wav"; System.out.println(URL); try { songPath = new URL(URL); // Get the Sound URL song = getAudioClip(songPath); } catch (MalformedURLException ex) { Logger.getLogger(Sound.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } public void playSound() { song.loop(); // Play } public void stopSound() { song.stop(); // Stop } public void playSoundOnce() { song.play(); // Play only once } } The 2 different construcors are for different ways i tried to implement this. The first one creates the filepath, and passes it in. The second one builds the filepath in the constructor, given a sound # (i made a list of what numbers correspond to what sound for reference). I am getting the followig errors out: ./sounds/sound_1.wav Nov 16, 2009 4:14:13 PM cardgame.Sound ./sounds/sound_2.wav SEVERE: null java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: ./sounds/sound_1.wav ./sounds/sound_3.wav at java.net.URL.(URL.java:583) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:480) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:429) ./sounds/sound_4.wav ./sounds/sound_5.wav at cardgame.Sound.(Sound.java:46) at cardgame.Game.loadSounds(Game.java:712) at cardgame.Game.(Game.java:62) at cardgame.Main.main(Main.java:25) Nov 16, 2009 4:14:13 PM cardgame.Sound SEVERE: null java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: ./sounds/sound_2.wav at java.net.URL.(URL.java:583) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:480) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:429) at cardgame.Sound.(Sound.java:46) at cardgame.Game.loadSounds(Game.java:712) at cardgame.Game.(Game.java:62) at cardgame.Main.main(Main.java:25) Nov 16, 2009 4:14:13 PM cardgame.Sound SEVERE: null java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: ./sounds/sound_3.wav at java.net.URL.(URL.java:583) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:480) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:429) at cardgame.Sound.(Sound.java:46) at cardgame.Game.loadSounds(Game.java:712) at cardgame.Game.(Game.java:62) at cardgame.Main.main(Main.java:25) Nov 16, 2009 4:14:13 PM cardgame.Sound SEVERE: null java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: ./sounds/sound_4.wav at java.net.URL.(URL.java:583) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:480) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:429) at cardgame.Sound.(Sound.java:46) at cardgame.Game.loadSounds(Game.java:712) at cardgame.Game.(Game.java:62) at cardgame.Main.main(Main.java:25) Nov 16, 2009 4:14:13 PM cardgame.Sound SEVERE: null java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: ./sounds/sound_5.wav at java.net.URL.(URL.java:583) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:480) at java.net.URL.(URL.java:429) at cardgame.Sound.(Sound.java:46) at cardgame.Game.loadSounds(Game.java:712) at cardgame.Game.(Game.java:62) at cardgame.Main.main(Main.java:25) Thanks for those who read and more thanks to those who help.
