  • is there any faster way to parse than by walk each byte?

    - by uray
is there any faster way to parse a text than by walk each byte of the text? I wonder if there is any special CPU (x86/x64) instruction for string operation that is used by string library, that somehow used to optimize the parsing routine. for example instruction like finding a token in a string that could be run by hardware instead of looping each byte until a token is found.

  • [MSVC++ 2008] Using preprocessor directives to define command line options

    - by Gbps
If I wanted to add, let's say, a new .lib to the build only if a particular #define was set, how would I do that? In the MSVC++ 2008 "Property Pages", you would simply add: Config Properties -> Linker -> Input -> Additional Dependencies, but I would like it if something like #define COMPILE_WITH_DETOURS was set, then the particular library would be added to the dependencies, otherwise it would be removed. Thanks!

  • Check if a pointer points to allocated memory on the heap.

    - by Ugo
Ok, I know this question seems to have been asked many times on stackoverflow. but please read Well the answer for any address is "No you can't" but the question here is to know if a pointer points to a piece of memory allocated with malloc/new. Actually I think it could be easily implemented overriding malloc/free and keeping track of allocated memory ranges. Do you know a memory management library providing this specific tool ?

  • Zend_Search_Lucene vs SOLR

    - by spacemonkey
Hi, I have recenlty stumbled into Zend Lucene port of Lucene project. I have a little bit experience with SOLR so I would like to know what is the difference between two of them especially from performance and installation side. As much as I know SOLR requires Tomcat serverlet running in web hosting in order to work, what about Zend Lucene library? I am also a bit confused what means "being implemented on the top of Lucene"?

  • How to implement table-per-concrete-type using entity framework

    - by SDReyes
Hello Guys! I'm mapping a set of tables that share a common set of fields: So as you can see I'm using a table-per-concrete-type strategy to map the inheritance. But... I have not could to relate them to an abstract type containing these common properties. It's possible to do it using EF? BONUS: The only non documented Entity Data Model Mapping Scenario is Table-per-concrete-type inheritance http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc716779.aspx : P

  • Do you know of some performances test of the different ways to get thread local storage in C++?

    - by Vicente Botet Escriba
I'm doing a library that makes extensive use of a thread local variable. Can you point to some benchmarks that test the performances of the different ways to get thread local variables in C++: C++0x thread_local variables compiler extension (Gcc __thread, ...) boost::threads_specific_ptr pthread Windows ... Does C++0x thread_local performs much better on the compilers providing it?
