  • JSON URL from StackExchange API returning jibberish?

    - by shsteimer
I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong here, but I'm not quite sure I'f I'm missing a step, or am just having an encoding problem or something. Here's my code URL url = new URL("http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/questions/2886661"); BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(url.openStream())); // Question q = new Gson().fromJson(in, Question.class); String line; StringBuffer content = new StringBuffer(); while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) { content.append(line); } when I print content, I get a whole bunch of wingdings and special characters, basically jibberish. I would copy and past it here, but that isn't working. What am I doing wrong?

  • comparator with null values.

    - by pvgoddijn
Hi, We have some code wich sorts a list of addresses based on the distance between their coordinates. this is done through collections.sort with a custom comparator. However from time to time an adress without coordinates is in the list causing a NullPointerException. My initial idea to fix this was to have the comparator return 0 as dististance for addresses where at least one of the coordinates is null. I fear this might lead to corruption of the order the 'valid' elements in the list. so is returning a '0' values for null data in a comparator ok, or is there a cleaner way to resolve this.

  • What is the best IDE?

    - by venom
Hello. As a not so experienced man in programming, I start to use netbeans PLATFORM. And I am really impressed by its power (for rich desktop app). I have been learning the programming in another way on university. I have never thought that something as powerful as nb Platform exists. My idea was that 30 people work on some rich desktop app for more than year to make it "beta". Now I know, that it is much more easier. But, I have never be satisfied with my own opinions about "something is best". I am still looking for better mouse trap. So the question is: What is most powerful IDE you know? (it does not strongly depends on language, it means if some combination of language/IDE is really powerful, feel free to answer.)

  • Eclipse RCP: Making use of configuration directory

    - by Dot
Hello, My Eclipse RCP application requires a configuration file that contains some information to connect to a remote database. Where is the best location to store this configuration file? Can I use the default configuration directory (where 'config.ini' is usually stored) for this purpose? If so, how can I get a File instance to this location programmatically? I also note that this directory does not exist in my Eclipse IDE. Thanks.

  • How to integrate Guice 2 into Wicket?

    - by deamon
I want to use Guice 2 with Wicket 1.4. There is a "wicket-guice" package, which uses Guice 1. Can someone give me an example how to configure Wicket to use Guice 2 for injection (with Maven). As you can see blow, I've found a solution, but I wonder, if it would be better to use Guice Servlets and register the whole Wicket Application as a ServletFilter with Guice. But I think this would conflict with wickets object creation strategy.

  • Load properties file in JAR?

    - by apryor48
I'm having trouble when one of the jars that my web app depends on tries to load a properties file from within the jar. Here is the code in the jar. static { Properties props = new Properties(); try { props.load(ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("someProps.properties")); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } someProperty = props.getProperty("someKey"); } The properties file is in my "src/main/resources" directory of the Maven project. When I run this code from my junit test in Eclipse, it executes just fine. When the project is built with Maven into a jar, and included as a dependency in my webb app, it fails to locate the properties file. I know that the properties file is at the base directory of the depended on jar, I don't know how to fix this. Please help!

  • Issue with org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient listFiles()

    - by James P.
The listFiles() method of org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient works fine with Filezilla server on 127.0.0.1 but returns null on the root directory of public FTP servers such as belnet.be. There is an identical question on the link below but enterRemotePassiveMode() doesn't seem to help. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2339855/apache-commons-ftpclient-listfiles Could it be an issue with list parsing? If so, how can go about solving this?

  • Apache POI HWPF Nested Lists?

    - by Mahadevan
    Hi, I used the following code to read list structures from a word file using hwpf. My question is how to read a list structure that is nested ie a list within a list within a list and so on. if (p instanceof ListEntry) { ListEntry entry = (ListEntry) p; outText = entry.text(); outText = "<li>" + outText + "</li>"; // verifca prima e ultimo if (i > 1) { pPrev = range.getParagraph(i - 1); if (!(pPrev instanceof ListEntry)) outText = "<ul>" + outText; } if (i < nParagrafi - 1) { pNext = range.getParagraph(i + 1); if (!(pNext instanceof ListEntry)) outText = outText + "</ul>"; } if (i == nParagrafi - 1) { outText = outText + "</ul>"; }

  • How to change webservice url endpoint ?

    - by EugeneP
I generated a web-service client using JBoss utils (JAX-WS compatible) using Eclipse 'web service client from a wsdl'. So, the only thing I provided was a url to a web-service. Now, the web service provider tells me to change the "client endpoint" of the web-service. What is it and how to change it?

  • Large margin by long title

    - by Kevin Koenen
    I try to show a list of offers. When an advertiser insert a large title, the margin of an item (offer) will be showed what shouldn't. I've tried different layouts but that doesn't work. Link to image :) You see, some of the items has a large margin. Here's the code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/gallerylayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="left|center" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:paddingBottom="2dp" android:paddingTop="2dp" android:paddingLeft="5dp" android:background="#20000000" android:cacheColorHint="#00000000"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/ad_image_small" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginRight="6dip" android:src="@drawable/ic_launcher"/> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:id="@+id/ad_id" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/ad_img_url" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView android:id="@+id/ad_title" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="3dp" android:gravity="left" android:textColor="#000000" android:ellipsize="end" android:singleLine="true"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/ad_km" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="3dp" android:layout_marginBottom="1dp" android:textColor="#000000" android:gravity="right"/> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView android:id="@+id/ad_text" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="3dp" android:textColor="#0099CC" android:ellipsize="end" android:singleLine="true"/> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="2dp" android:padding="5dp"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/ad_clock" android:layout_width="20dp" android:layout_height="20dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dip" android:src="@drawable/icon_clock"/> <ProgressBar android:id="@+id/progressbar" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="8dp" android:layout_margin="5dp" android:paddingLeft="2dp" android:max="100" style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleHorizontal" android:progressDrawable="@drawable/color_progressbar" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> <ImageView android:id="@+id/overlay_image" android:background="#0000" android:src="@drawable/verlopen2x" android:layout_alignTop="@id/ad_image_small" android:layout_alignBottom="@id/ad_image_small" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:adjustViewBounds="true" android:visibility="visible" /> I can't see what i'm doing wrong. • Streaming output with commons-exec?

    - by Stefan Kendall
Can anyone give me an example of how to stream the output of an external program executed with DefaultExecutor? I'm not finding any documentation describing how to do this. My external process will run for several hours, so just grabbing all output data isn't feasible; it must be streamed.

  • The "Why" behind PMD's rules.

    - by James Kingsbery
Is there a good resource which describes the "why" behind PMD rule sets? PMD's site has the "what" - what each rule does - but it doesn't describe why PMD has that rule and why ignoring that rule can get you in trouble in the real world. In particular, I'm interested in knowing why PMD has the AvoidInstantiatingObjectsInLoops and OnlyOneReturn rules (the first seems necessary if you need to create a new object corresponding to each object in a collection, the second seems like it is a necessity in many cases that return a value based on some criteria). Just to be clear, I know that I can disable these and how to do that, I'm just wondering why they are there in the first place. Sorry if there's something obvious I missed out there, but I did a Google search and SO search before posting this.

  • How do app servers inject into private fields?

    - by cibercitizen1
I saw this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2021716/inject-into-private-package-or-public-field-or-provide-a-setter about how to manually inject into annotated private fields (The way is adding setters or through a constructor) But, the point is how do an application server (like glassfish, axis2, jboss, ...) is able to inject into a final private field (without adding setters or constructors to the user class)? Quoting the cited question: public SomeClass { @Inject private SomeResource resource; } Do they use a customized JVM (not the standard one) that allows to access private fields? Thanks

  • Including a JSP Page Programatically

    - by Tom Tucker
I need to include a JSP page in a Tag class. I believe the standard way to include a JSP page within another JSP page using API is this: request.getRequestDispatcher("included.jsp").include(request, response); However, I noticed that the included page is rendered at the top of the generated page, no matter where the code is located. On the other hand, the <jsp:include> action works as expected, rendering the included page where the tag appears in the JSP file. How do I include a JSP page in a class so that it behaves the same as the <jsp:include>? There's no way to invoke the <jsp:include> action within a Tag class, is there?
