  • Can't obtain reference to EKReminder array retrieved from fetchRemindersMatchingPredicate

    - by Scionwest
    When I create an NSPredicate via EKEventStore predicateForRemindersInCalendars; and pass it to EKEventStore fetchRemindersMatchingPredicate:completion:^ I can loop through the reminders array provided by the completion code block, but when I try to store a reference to the reminders array, or create a copy of the array into a local variable or instance variable, both array's remain empty. The reminders array is never copied to them. This is the method I am using, in the method, I create a predicate, pass it to the event store and then loop through all of the reminders logging their title via NSLog. I can see the reminder titles during runtime thanks to NSLog, but the local arrayOfReminders object is empty. I also try to add each reminder into an instance variable of NSMutableArray, but once I leave the completion code block, the instance variable remains empty. Am I missing something here? Can someone please tell me why I can't grab a reference to all of the reminders for use through-out the app? I am not having any issues at all accessing and storing EKEvents, but for some reason I can't do it with EKReminders. - (void)findAllReminders { NSPredicate *predicate = [self.eventStore predicateForRemindersInCalendars:nil]; __block NSArray *arrayOfReminders = [[NSArray alloc] init]; [self.eventStore fetchRemindersMatchingPredicate:predicate completion:^(NSArray *reminders) { arrayOfReminders = [reminders copy]; //Does not work. for (EKReminder *reminder in reminders) { [self.remindersForTheDay addObject:reminder]; NSLog(@"%@", reminder.title); } }]; //Always = 0; if ([self.remindersForTheDay count]) { NSLog(@"Instance Variable has reminders!"); } //Always = 0; if ([arrayOfReminders count]) { NSLog(@"Local Variable has reminders!"); } } The eventStore getter is where I perform my instantiation and get access to the event store. - (EKEventStore *)eventStore { if (!_eventStore) { _eventStore = [[EKEventStore alloc] init]; //respondsToSelector indicates iOS 6 support. if ([_eventStore respondsToSelector:@selector(requestAccessToEntityType:completion:)]) { //Request access to user calendar [_eventStore requestAccessToEntityType:EKEntityTypeEvent completion:^(BOOL granted, NSError *error) { if (granted) { NSLog(@"iOS 6+ Access to EventStore calendar granted."); } else { NSLog(@"Access to EventStore calendar denied."); } }]; //Request access to user Reminders [_eventStore requestAccessToEntityType:EKEntityTypeReminder completion:^(BOOL granted, NSError *error) { if (granted) { NSLog(@"iOS 6+ Access to EventStore Reminders granted."); } else { NSLog(@"Access to EventStore Reminders denied."); } }]; } else { //iOS 5.x and lower support if Selector is not supported NSLog(@"iOS 5.x < Access to EventStore calendar granted."); } for (EKCalendar *cal in self.calendars) { NSLog(@"Calendar found: %@", cal.title); } [_eventStore reset]; } return _eventStore; } Lastly, just to show that I am initializing my remindersForTheDay instance variable using lazy instantiation. - (NSMutableArray *)remindersForTheDay { if (!_remindersForTheDay) _remindersForTheDay = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; return _remindersForTheDay; } I've read through the Apple documentation and it doesn't provide any explanation that I can find to answer this. I read through the Blocks Programming docs and it states that you can access local and instance variables without issues from within a block, but for some reason, the above code does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've scoured Google for answers but have yet to get this figured out. Thanks everyone! Johnathon.

  • Missing ideas in programming language design

    - by meyka
    I wanted to try something new and so I designed some programming languages and wrote interpreters for them: A rather low-level, not very expressive language. (I didn't want to parse complex expressions right at the beginning) It featured: Variables (yay) Subroutines, with a call stack Basic arithmetic functions, basic string manipulation, ... Code in the language looks like this: set i 0 inc i print i Very, very basic you see. A more high-level language I decided to make it structured and so it featured things like if-else, while, functions, and so on. The stuff most programming languages have. Ended up like a unworthy Python clone, I hated that. A code-golf language Which ended up similar to J, golfcode, APL, etc. Nothing special As you can see: I don't lack the skills but the ideas. I can't figure out anything new, not even bad, unneccessary things, for my languages. - Do you know of some weird things I could implement in my languages, which don't try to make programming harder (like most esoteric languages) but funnier or more different from other languages? It can't be possible that every weird thing has been tried out so far, or?

  • C# File IO with Streams - Best Memory Buffer Size

    - by AJ
    Hi, I am writing a small IO library to assist with a larger (hobby) project. A part of this library performs various functions on a file, which is read / written via the FileStream object. On each StreamReader.Read(...) pass, I fire off an event which will be used in the main app to display progress information. The processing that goes on in the loop is vaired, but is not too time consuming (it could just be a simple file copy, for example, or may involve encryption...). My main question is: What is the best memory buffer size to use? Thinking about physical disk layouts, I could pick 2k, which would cover a CD sector size and is a nice multiple of a 512 byte hard disk sector. Higher up the abstraction tree, you could go for a larger buffer which could read an entire FAT cluster at a time. I realise with today's PC's, I could go for a more memory hungry option (a couple of MiB, for example), but then I increase the time between UI updates and the user perceives a less responsive app. As an aside, I'm eventually hoping to provide a similar interface to files hosted on FTP / HTTP servers (over a local network / fastish DSL). What would be the best memory buffer size for those (again, a "best-case" tradeoff between perceived responsiveness vs. performance). Thanks in advance for any ideas, Adam

  • Why is Reporting Services report vastly slower than its query?

    - by Telos
    I have a query that takes roughly 2 minutes to run. It's not terribly complex in terms of parameters or anything, and the report itself doesn't do any truly extensive processing. Basically just spits the data straight out in a nice format. (Actually one of the reports doesn't format the data at all, just returns a flat table meant to be manipulated in excel.) It's not returning a massive set of data either. Yet the report takes upwards of 30 minutes to run. What could cause this? This is SSRS 2005 against a SQL 2005 database btw. EDIT: OK, I found that with the addition of WITH (NOLOCK) in the report it takes the same time as the query does through SSMS. Why would the query be handled differently if it's coming from reporting services (or visual studio on my local machine) than if coming from SSMS on my local machine? I saw the query running in Activity Monitor a couple times in SLEEP_WAIT mode, but not blocked by anything... EDIT2: The connection string is: Data Source=SERVERNAME;Initial Catalog=DBName

  • UIButton addTarget:action:forControlEvents: results in [NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector:]

    - by Teodor
    Hi. I tried a lot of stuff, still no result. So I have the following button created programatically in a subclass of UIViewController: rightButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; rightButton.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 110.0, 40.0); rightButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:GAME_FONT_NAME_STRING size:20.0]; [rightButton setTitle:@"MyTitle" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; rightButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [rightButton setTitleColor:[UIColor greenColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [rightButton setTitleColor:[UIColor blackColor] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; [rightButton setBackgroundImage:normalImage forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [rightButton setBackgroundImage:highlightedImage forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [self.view addSubview:rightButton]; where the selector is: - (void)myButton; I tried everything: - (void)myButton; - (void)myButton:(id)sender; - (void)myButton:(id)sender forEvent:(UIEvent *)event; - (IBAction)myButton; - (IBAction)myButton:(id)sender; - (IBAction)myButton:(id)sender forEvent:(UIEvent *)event; and the corresponding selectors, of course: [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton:forEvent:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButton:forEvent:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; The result is always an uncaught exception - [NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector:]. However, the usual backtrace of the program is: #0 0x92a6bedb in objc_msgSend () #1 0x03b0a430 in ?? () #2 0x00306b4e in -[UIControl sendAction:to:forEvent:] () #3 0x00308d6f in -[UIControl(Internal) _sendActionsForEvents:withEvent:] () #4 0x00307abb in -[UIControl touchesEnded:withEvent:] () #5 0x002bcddf in -[UIWindow _sendTouchesForEvent:] () #6 0x002a67c8 in -[UIApplication sendEvent:] () #7 0x002ad061 in _UIApplicationHandleEvent () #8 0x02498d59 in PurpleEventCallback () #9 0x01cabb80 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific () #10 0x01caac48 in CFRunLoopRunInMode () #11 0x02497615 in GSEventRunModal () #12 0x024976da in GSEventRun () #13 0x002adfaf in UIApplicationMain () So what is the problem with that button? PS: I am using the iPhone SDK 3.1.3 Update! The following code in the AppDelegate (no declarations in the interface): - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { UIButton *test = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 100.0)]; [test setTitle:@"Title" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; UIImage *bg = [UIImage imageNamed:...]; [test setBackgroundImage:bg forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [test addTarget:self action:@selector(testAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [window addSubview:test]; [test release]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)testAction { NSLog(@"Write something..."); } works perfectly! But if I create an empty UIViewController with the same code: - (void)viewDidLoad { UIButton *test = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 100.0)]; [test setTitle:@"Title" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; UIImage *bg = [UIImage imageNamed:...]; [test setBackgroundImage:bg forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [test addTarget:self action:@selector(testAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [self.view addSubview:test]; [test release]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)testAction { NSLog(@"Write something..."); } I get this mysterious error. :-( Help!

  • Increase Query Speed in PostgreSQL

    - by Anthoni Gardner
    Hello, First time posting here, but an avid reader. I am experiancing slow query times on my database (all tested locally thus far) and not sure how to go about it. The database itself has 44 tables and some of them tables have over 1 Million records (mainly the movies, actresses and actors tables). The table is made via JMDB using the flat files on IMDB. Also the SQL query that I am about to show is from that said program (that too experiances very slow search times). I have tried to include as much information as I can, such as the explain plan etc. "QUERY PLAN" "HashAggregate (cost=46492.52..46493.50 rows=98 width=46)" " Output: public.movies.title, public.movies.movieid, public.movies.year" " - Append (cost=39094.17..46491.79 rows=98 width=46)" " - HashAggregate (cost=39094.17..39094.87 rows=70 width=46)" " Output: public.movies.title, public.movies.movieid, public.movies.year" " - Seq Scan on movies (cost=0.00..39093.65 rows=70 width=46)" " Output: public.movies.title, public.movies.movieid, public.movies.year" " Filter: (((title)::text ~~* '%Babe%'::text) AND ((title)::text !~~* '""%}'::text))" " - Nested Loop (cost=0.00..7395.94 rows=28 width=46)" " Output: public.movies.title, public.movies.movieid, public.movies.year" " - Seq Scan on akatitles (cost=0.00..7159.24 rows=28 width=4)" " Output: akatitles.movieid, akatitles.language, akatitles.title, " Filter: (((title)::text ~~* '%Babe%'::text) AND ((title)::text !~~* '""%}'::text))" " - Index Scan using movies_pkey on movies (cost=0.00..8.44 rows=1 width=46)" " Output: public.movies.movieid, public.movies.title, public.movies.year, public.movies.imdbid" " Index Cond: (public.movies.movieid = akatitles.movieid)" SELECT * FROM ((SELECT DISTINCT title, movieid, year FROM movies WHERE title ILIKE '%Babe%' AND NOT (title ILIKE '"%}')) UNION (SELECT movies.title, movies.movieid, movies.year FROM movies INNER JOIN akatitles ON movies.movieid=akatitles.movieid WHERE akatitles.title ILIKE '%Babe%' AND NOT (akatitles.title ILIKE '"%}'))) AS union_tmp2; Returns 612 Rows in 9078ms Database backup (plain text) is 1.61GB It's a really complex query and I am not fully cognizant on it, like I said it was spat out by JMDB. Do you have any suggestions on how I can increase the speed ? Regards Anthoni

  • Should UTF-16 be considered harmful?

    - by Artyom
    I'm going to ask what is probably quite a controversial question: "Should one of the most popular encodings, UTF-16, be considered harmful?" Why do I ask this question? How many programmers are aware of the fact that UTF-16 is actually a variable length encoding? By this I mean that there are code points that, represented as surrogate pairs, take more then one element. I know; lots of applications, frameworks and APIs use UTF-16, such as Java's String, C#'s String, Win32 APIs, Qt GUI libraries, the ICU Unicode library, etc. However, with all of that, there are lots of basic bugs in the processing of characters out of BMP (characters that should be encoded using two UTF-16 elements). For example, try to edit one of these characters: 𝄞 𝕥 𝟶 𠂊 You may miss some, depending on what fonts you have installed. These characters are all outside of the BMP (Basic Multilingual Plane). If you cannot see these characters, you can also try looking at them in the Unicode Character reference. For example, try to create file names in Windows that include these characters; try to delete these characters with a "backspace" to see how they behave in different applications that use UTF-16. I did some tests and the results are quite bad: Opera has problem with editing them Notepad can't deal with them correctly (delete for example) File names editing in Window dialogs in broken All QT3 applications can't deal with them. StackOverflow seems to remove these characters if edited directly in as Unicode characters, and only seems to allow them as HTML Unicode escapes. So... This was very simple test. Do you think that UTF-16 should be considered harmful?

  • Is an LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package needed for some impersonation use cases?

    - by Chris Sears
    Greetings, I'm working with a vendor who has implemented some code that uses a Windows LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package (MSDN info if you're interested: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa374786(VS.85).aspx ) and I'm trying to figure out if it's necessary. As far as I can tell, the subauthentication routine and filter allow for hooking or customizing the standard LSA MSV1_0 logon event processing. The issue is that I don't understand why the vendor's product would need these capabilities. I've asked them and they said they use it to perform impersonation. The product definitely does need to do impersonation, but based on my limited win32 knowledge, they could get the functionality they need using the normal auth APIs (LsaLogonUser, ImpersonateLoggedOnUser, etc) without the subauthentication package. Furthermore, I've worked with a number of similar products that all do impersonation, and this is the only one that's used a subauthentication package. If you're wondering why I would care, a previous version of the product had a bug in the subauthentication package dll that would cause lockups or bluescreens. That makes me rather nervous and has me questioning the use of such a low-level, kernel sensitive interface. I'd like to go back to the vendor and say "There's no way you could need an LSA subauth package for impersonation - take it out", but I'm not sure I understand the use cases and possible limitations of the standard win32 authentication/impersonation APIs well enough to make that claim definitively. So, to the win32 security gurus out there, is there any reason you would need an LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package if all you were doing is impersonation? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

  • Proper use of HTTP status codes in a "validation" server

    - by Romulo A. Ceccon
    Among the data my application sends to a third-party SOA server are complex XMLs. The server owner does provide the XML schemas (.xsd) and, since the server rejects invalid XMLs with a meaningless message, I need to validate them locally before sending. I could use a stand-alone XML schema validator but they are slow, mainly because of the time required to parse the schema files. So I wrote my own schema validator (in Java, if that matters) in the form of an HTTP Server which caches the already parsed schemas. The problem is: many things can go wrong in the course of the validation process. Other than unexpected exceptions and successful validation: the server may not find the schema file specified the file specified may not be a valid schema file the XML is invalid against the schema file Since it's an HTTP Server I'd like to provide the client with meaningful status codes. Should the server answer with a 400 error (Bad request) for all the above cases? Or they have nothing to do with HTTP and it should answer 200 with a message in the body? Any other suggestion? Update: the main application is written in Ruby, which doesn't have a good xml schema validation library, so a separate validation server is not over-engineering.

  • Quartz compositions created in Snow Leopard (10.6) doesn't work in Leopard (10.5) despite testing in

    - by adib
    Hi I have a reasonably advanced (many patches and subpatches) quartz composition that was created in Snow Leopard but doesn't run well (many elements are not rendered) in Leopard. The composition tested OK via Quartz Composer's Test in Runtime option and works fine for both Leopard 32-bits and Leopard 64-bits (menu item "File | Test in Runtime | Leopard 32-bits". In an actual Leopard (32-bits) system, a lot of elements are not rendered in the quartz composition. Below are the log file excerpt when the composition is run in QuickTime Player under Leopard: QuickTime Player[134] *** <QCNodeManager | namespace = "com.apple.QuartzComposer" | 335 nodes>: Patch with name "/units to pixels" is missing QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D82880 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/units to pixels" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/resize image to target" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create connection from ["outputValue" @ "Math_1"] to ["Target_Pixels" @ "Patch_2"] The patch "units to pixels" is a system patch in Snow Leopard whereas the patch "resize image to target" is a custom virtual patch located in my home directory. It seems that we can cross out problems in which the composition is referencing a missing virtual patch. I have tested the composition under another user's account and it ran fine which shows that it already embeds the "resize image to target" virtual patch that is located in my home directory. I'm really puzzled why the composition passes the Leopard Runtime test but yet fail to run in an actual Leopard OS? Is there a post-processing step that I need to run to the composition file? Is there any way to make this patch more compatible with Leopard? Thanks in advance.

  • sproutcore vs javascriptMVC for web app development

    - by swami
    Hi, I want to use a javascript framework with MVC for a complex web application (which will be one of a set of related apps and pages) for an intranet in a digital archives. I have been looking at SproutCore and JavascriptMVC. I want to choose one framework and stick with it. Does anybody know what the distinguishing features are when comparing these two? I want something that is simple, straightforward that I can customize/hack easily, and that doesn't get in my way too much, but that at the same time gives me a basis for keeping my code nicely organized, and event-driven. I also plan on using jquery substantially. I know sproutcore is backed by Apple, and looks like it is getting more popular by the day, and it has a nice green website :), whereas JavascriptMVC looks less professional, with less of a following and less momentum behind it. I've done the tutorials for both and I was impressed by SproutCore more (in the JMVC tutorial you don't really do anything substantial) - but somewhere in the back of my mind I feel that JMVC might just be better because it doesn't try and do too much - it just gives you MVC functionality based on a couple of jquery plugins, and you can use jquery for everything else, so its flexible. Whereas SproutCore seems to have more of its own API etc... which is also nice in a way... but then you're kind of stuck within that.... hmmm I'm confused :). Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Code for decoding/encoding a modified base64 URL

    - by Kirk Liemohn
    I want to base64 encode data to put it in a URL and then decode it within my HttpHandler. I have found that Base64 Encoding allows for a '/' character which will mess up my UriTemplate matching. Then I found that there is a concept of a "modified Base64 for URL" from wikipedia: A modified Base64 for URL variant exists, where no padding '=' will be used, and the '+' and '/' characters of standard Base64 are respectively replaced by '-' and '_', so that using URL encoders/decoders is no longer necessary and has no impact on the length of the encoded value, leaving the same encoded form intact for use in relational databases, web forms, and object identifiers in general. Using .NET I want to modify my current code from doing basic base64 encoding and decoding to using the "modified base64 for URL" method. Has anyone done this? To decode, I know it starts out with something like: string base64EncodedText = base64UrlEncodedText.Replace('-', '+').Replace('_', '/'); // Append '=' char(s) if necessary - how best to do this? // My normal base64 decoding now uses encodedText But, I need to potentially add one or two '=' chars to the end which looks a little more complex. My encoding logic should be a little simpler: // Perform normal base64 encoding byte[] encodedBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(unencodedText); string base64EncodedText = Convert.ToBase64String(encodedBytes); // Apply URL variant string base64UrlEncodedText = base64EncodedText.Replace("=", String.Empty).Replace('+', '-').Replace('/', '_'); I have seen the Guid to Base64 for URL StackOverflow entry, but that has a known length and therefore they can hardcode the number of equal signs needed at the end.

  • How to test IO code in JUnit?

    - by add
    I'm want to test two services: service which builds file name service which writes some data into file provided by 1st service In first i'm building some complex file structure (just for example {user}/{date}/{time}/{generatedId}.bin) In second i'm writing data to the file passed by first service (1st service calls 2nd service) How can I test both services using mocks without making any real IO interractions? Just for example: 1st service: public class DefaultLogService implements LogService { public void log(SomeComplexData data) { serializer.write(new FileOutputStream(buildComplexFileStructure()), data); or serializer.write(buildComplexFileStructure(), data); or serializer.write(new GenericInputEntity(buildComplexFileStructure()), data); } private ComplextDataSerializer serializer; // mocked in tests } 2nd service: public class DefaultComplexDataSerializer implements ComplexDataSerializer { void write(InputStream stream, SomeComplexData data) {...} or void write(File file, SomeCompexData data) {...} or void write(GenericInputEntity entity, SomeComplexData data) {...} } In first case i need to pass FileOutputStream which will create a file (i.e. i can't test 1st service) In second case i need to pass File. What can i do in 2nd service test if I need to test data which will be written to specified file? (i can't test 2nd service) In third case i think i need some generic IO object which will wrap File. Maybe there is some ready-to-use solution for this purpose?

  • storing user info/pass in web.config authentication

    - by Tomaszewski
    Hello, I am trying to write a simple internal app with some simple authentication. I'm also trying to make this quick and learn about the forms authentication via web.config. So i have my authentication working if I hard code my 'user name' and 'password' into C# code and do a simple conditional. However, I'm having a tough time storing the a user/pass to be checked against in the web.config file. The MSDN manual says to put this into the web.config: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="login.aspx"> <credentials passwordFormat="SHA1"> <user name="user1" password="27CE4CA7FBF00685AF2F617E3F5BBCAFF7B7403C" /> <user name="user2" password="D108F80936F78DFDD333141EBC985B0233A30C7A" /> <user name="user3" password="7BDB09781A3F23885CD43177C0508B375CB1B7E9"/> </credentials> </forms> </authentication> However, the minute I add 'credentials' into the 'authentication' section, I get this error: Server Error in '/' Application. Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Unrecognized element 'credentials'. Source Error: Line 44: <authentication mode="Forms"> Line 45: <forms loginUrl="login.aspx" /> Line 46: <credentials> Line 47: Line 48: </credentials> Source File: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\asp\projects\passwordCatalog\passwordCatalog\web.config Line: 46 So my question is, how and where would I add the following in the web.config file? <credentials passwordFormat="SHA1"> <user name="johndoe" password="mypass123" /> </credentials>

  • How to fix width of DIV that contains floated elements?

    - by joe
    I have a DIV container with several inner DIVs layed out by floating them all left. The inner DIVs may change width on certain events, and the containing DIV adjusts accordingly. I use float:left in the container to keep it shrunk to the width of the inner divs. I use float:left in the inner divs so the layout is clean even when their contents change. The catch is that I want the DIV container width and height to remain constant, UNLESS a particular event causes a change to the inner widths. Conceptually I want to use float on the inners for the layout benefit, but then I want to "fix" them so they don't float around. So if the container is 700px wide, I want it to remain so even if the user narrows the browser window. I'd like the container, and it's internal DIVs to just be clipped by the browser window. I sense this can all be done nicely in CSS, I just can't quite figure out how. I'm not averse to adding another container if necessary... Since the only desired layout changes are event-based, I am also willing to use a bit of JS. But is this necessary? (And I'm still not sure I know what to modify: container dimensions? inner floatiness? other?) <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> #canvas { overflow:auto; /* for clearing floats */ } #container { float:left; /* so container shrinks around contained divs */ border:thin solid blue; } .inner { float:left; /* so inner elems line up nicely w/o saying fixed coords */ padding-top:8px; padding-bottom:4px; padding-left:80px; padding-right:80px; } #inner1 { background-color:#ffdddd; } #inner2 { background-color:#ddffdd; } #inner3 { background-color:#ddddff; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="canvas"> <div id="container"> <div id="inner1" class="inner"> inner 1 </div> <div id="inner2" class="inner"> inner 2 </div> <div id="inner3" class="inner"> inner 3 </div> </div> </div> cleared element </body> </html>

  • Sharing the model in MVP Winforms App

    - by Keith G
    I'm working on building up an MVP application (C# Winforms). My initial version is at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1422343/ ... Now I'm increasing the complexity. I've broken out the code to handle two separate text fields into two view/presenter pairs. It's a trivial example, but it's to work out the details of multiple presenters sharing the same model. My questions are about the model: I am basically using a property changed event raised by the model for notifying views that something has changed. Is that a good approach? What if it gets to the point where I have 100 or 1000 properties? Is it still practical at that point? Is instantiating the model in each presenter with   NoteModel _model = NoteModel.Instance   the correct approach? Note that I do want to make sure all of the presenters are sharing the same data. If there is a better approach, I'm open to suggestions .... My code looks like this: NoteModel.cs public class NoteModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { private static NoteModel _instance = null; public static NoteModel Instance { get { return _instance; } } static NoteModel() { _instance = new NoteModel(); } private NoteModel() { Initialize(); } public string Filename { get; set; } public bool IsDirty { get; set; } public readonly string DefaultName = "Untitled.txt"; string _sText; public string TheText { get { return _sText; } set { _sText = value; PropertyHasChanged("TheText"); } } string _sMoreText; public string MoreText { get { return _sMoreText; } set { _sMoreText = value; PropertyHasChanged("MoreText"); } } public void Initialize() { Filename = DefaultName; TheText = String.Empty; MoreText = String.Empty; IsDirty = false; } private void PropertyHasChanged(string sPropName) { IsDirty = true; if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(sPropName)); } } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; } TextEditorPresenter.cs public class TextEditorPresenter { ITextEditorView _view; NoteModel _model = NoteModel.Instance; public TextEditorPresenter(ITextEditorView view)//, NoteModel model) { //_model = model; _view = view; _model.PropertyChanged += new PropertyChangedEventHandler(model_PropertyChanged); } void model_PropertyChanged(object sender, PropertyChangedEventArgs e) { if (e.PropertyName == "TheText") _view.TheText = _model.TheText; } public void TextModified() { _model.TheText = _view.TheText; } public void ClearView() { _view.TheText = String.Empty; } } TextEditor2Presenter.cs is essentially the same except it operates on _model.MoreText instead of _model.TheText. ITextEditorView.cs public interface ITextEditorView { string TheText { get; set; } } ITextEditor2View.cs public interface ITextEditor2View { string MoreText { get; set; } }

  • scripsharp reference web service / strongly type to results model

    - by user175528
    With scriptsharp (script#) is it possible to get strong typing when calling a service defined in my web app? The only way I can see is to: 1 - use linked / shared files to shadow copy my results classes / domain models across into my script# lib 2 - replicate my model across in the script# lib and use automapper to validate? 3 - use some .tt to code gen? also, even if I can do this, how do I get around the auto camel-casing script# does, when my service result (asmx) wont do this? (so my JSON response will comback as UserMessage, script# will have changed that to userMessage) basically, what I am looking to use script# to achieve is better compile time support against our domain model when calling and processing services in javascript, so something like this: Scriptlet public static class MyScriptlet { public static void Main() { MyService.Service1("hello", ProcessResponse);} public static void ProcessResponse(MyService.Service1ResponseData resp) { jQuery.Select('#Message').Text(resp.UserMessage); jQuery.Select('#Detail').Text(resp.UserDetail); } Service (in our web app) public class MyService { public class Service1ResponseData { public string UserMessage {get;set;} public string UserDetail {get;set;} } public Service1ResponseData Service1(string user) { return new Service1ResponseData() { UserMessage:"hi",UserDetail:"some text"}; } }

  • Dependency Properties and Data Context in Silverlight 3

    - by Noam
    Hello, I am working with Silverlight 3 beta, and am having an issue. I have a page that has a user control that I worte on it. The user control has a dependency property on it. If the user control does not define a data context (hence using the parent's data context), all works well. But if the user control has its own data context, the dependency property's OnPropertyChanged method never gets called. Here is a sample: My Main Page: <UserControl x:Class="TestDepProp.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:app="clr-namespace:TestDepProp" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Width="400" Height="100"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="3" CornerRadius="3"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"> <TextBlock Text="Enter text here:" /> <TextBox x:Name="entryBlock" Text="{Binding Data, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Button Content="Go!" Click="Button_Click" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Data}" /> </StackPanel> <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="3" CornerRadius="3" Margin="5"> <app:TestControl PropOnControl="{Binding Data}" /> </Border> </StackPanel> </Border> </Grid> </UserControl> Main Page code: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace TestDepProp { public partial class MainPage : UserControl { public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); MainPageData data = new MainPageData(); this.DataContext = data; } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { int i = 1; i++; } } } Main Page's data context: using System.ComponentModel; namespace TestDepProp { public class MainPageData:INotifyPropertyChanged { string _data; public string Data { get { return _data; } set { _data = value; if (PropertyChanged != null) PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("Data")); } } public MainPageData() { Data = "Initial Value"; } #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion } } Control XAML: <UserControl x:Class="TestDepProp.TestControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:app="clr-namespace:TestDepProp" > <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" Margin="10" > <TextBlock Text="This should change:" /> <TextBlock x:Name="ControlValue" Text="Not Set" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> Contol code: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace TestDepProp { public partial class TestControl : UserControl { public TestControl() { InitializeComponent(); // Comment out next line for DP to work DataContext = new MyDataContext(); } #region PropOnControl Dependency Property public string PropOnControl { get { return (string)GetValue(PropOnControlProperty); } set { SetValue(PropOnControlProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty PropOnControlProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("PropOnControl", typeof(string), typeof(TestControl), new PropertyMetadata(OnPropOnControlPropertyChanged)); private static void OnPropOnControlPropertyChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { TestControl _TestControl = d as TestControl; if (_TestControl != null) { _TestControl.ControlValue.Text = e.NewValue.ToString(); } } #endregion PropOnControl Dependency Property } } Control's data context: using System.ComponentModel; namespace TestDepProp { public class MyDataContext : INotifyPropertyChanged { #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion } } To try it out, type something in the text box, and hit the Go button. Comment out the data context in the controls code to see that it starts to work. Hope someone has an idea as to what is going on.

  • Firebird sequence-backed ID shorthand

    - by pilcrow
    What do others do to simplify the creation of simple, serial surrogate keys populated by a SEQUENCE (a.k.a. GENERATOR) in Firebird = 2.1? I finc the process comparatively arduous: For example, in PostgreSQL, I simply type: pg> CREATE TABLE tbl ( > id SERIAL NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, > ... In MySQL, I simply type: my> CREATE TABLE tbl ( > id INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, > ... But in Firebird I type: fb> CREATE TABLE tbl ( > id BIGINT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, > ... fb> CREATE SEQUENCE tbl_id_seq; fb> SET TERM !!; > CREATE TRIGGER tbl_id_trg FOR tbl > ACTIVE BEFORE INSERT POSITION 0 > AS > BEGIN > IF ((new.id IS NULL) OR (new.id <= 0)) THEN > BEGIN > new.id = GEN_ID(tbl_id_seq, 1); > END > END !! > SET TERM ; !! ... and I get pretty bored by the time I reach trigger definition. However, I routinely make SEQUENCE-backed ID fields for temporary, developement and throw-away tables. What do others do to simplify this? Work with an IDE? Run a pre-processing, in-house perl script over the DDL file? Etc.

  • Query Optimizing Request

    - by mithilatw
    I am very sorry if this question is structured in not a very helpful manner or the question itself is not a very good one! I need to update a MSSQL table call component every 10 minutes based on information from another table call materials_progress I have nearly 60000 records in component and more than 10000 records in materials_progress I wrote an update query to do the job, but it takes longer than 4 minutes to complete execution! Here is the query : UPDATE component SET stage_id = CASE WHEN t.required_quantity <= t.total_received THEN 27 WHEN t.total_ordered < t.total_received THEN 18 ELSE 18 END FROM ( SELECT mp.job_id, mp.line_no, mp.component, l.quantity AS line_quantity, CASE WHEN mp.component_name_id = 2 THEN l.quantity*2 ELSE l.quantity END AS required_quantity, SUM(ordered) AS total_ordered, SUM(received) AS total_received , c.component_id FROM line l LEFT JOIN component c ON c.line_id = l.line_id LEFT JOIN materials_progress mp ON l.job_id = mp.job_id AND l.line_no = mp.line_no AND c.component_name_id = mp.component_name_id WHERE mp.job_id IS NOT NULL AND (mp.cancelled IS NULL OR mp.cancelled = 0) AND (mp.manual_override IS NULL OR mp.manual_override = 0) AND c.stage_id = 18 GROUP BY mp.job_id, mp.line_no, mp.component, l.quantity, mp.component_name_id, component_id ) AS t WHERE component.component_id = t.component_id I am not going to explain the scenario as it too complex.. could somebody please please tell me what makes this query this much expensive and a way to get around it? Thank you very very much in advance!!!

  • sencha dataitem datamap setItems

    - by user1795667
    I'm trying to follow the kitten example given here http://www.sencha.com/blog/dive-into-dataview-with-sencha-touch-2-beta-2#comment_form and I have complex components in which one of the property of my data is a list of objects. And I do find a method for setting a list of objects which is setItems however it does not seem to work. My object array is my model MyApp.Model.Sponsor. Could anyone suggest what I'm missing to get this working? Ext.define('MyListItem', { extend: 'Ext.dataview.component.DataItem', requires: ['Ext.Button','Ext.Img', 'MyApp.model.Sponsors', 'MyApp.model.Sponsor'], xtype: 'mylistitem', config: { sponsor: true, dataMap: { getSponsor: { setItems: 'sponsor' } } }, applySponsor: function(config) { // I put an alert here to see if I get getSponsor() but the object I get here is undefined alert(this.getSponsor()); return Ext.factory(config, MyApp.model.Sponsor, this.getSponsor()); }, updateSponsor: function(newNameButton, oldNameButton) { if (oldNameButton) { this.remove(oldNameButton); } if (newNameButton) { this.add(newNameButton); } }, onSponsorTap: function(button, e) { var sponsors = record.get('sponsor'); //my specific action } }); Ext.define('MyApp.model.Sponsors', { extend: 'Ext.data.Model', xtype:'Sponsors_m', config: { fields: [ {name: 'level', type: 'auto'}, {name: 'id', type: 'int'}, {name: 'sponsor', type: 'Sponsor'} ] } }); Ext.define('MyApp.model.Sponsor', { extend: 'Ext.data.Model', xtype:'Sponsor_m', config: { fields: [ {name: 'name', type: 'auto'}, {name: 'image', type: 'auto'}, {name: 'url', type: 'auto'}, {name: 'description', type: 'auto'} ] } });
