  • How can I estimate server costs for creating an app?

    Im writing up a business plan and im having some trouble with the finance part. I put an estimate on the cost of developers, web designers and everything but server costs. Im not a programmer so I dont know all the details. But how much would you think servers are going to cost for a complex app. I cant get into too many details but it keeps track of user preferences, stores data about the user and there is quite alot of back-end to it.

  • Option To AutoFormat Query Syntax in SSMS 2005 or 2008?

    In TOAD (for SQL or Oracle), there is a simple AUTOFORMAT button that will nicely format your query - I couldn't find that option in SSMS 2005, but was advised by a co-worker that it was available in SSMS 2008. I am unable to locate the option there either. This is VERY helpful when pasting a query from another source. Thanks for any assistance.

    Our CEO wants our iPhone app's icons to look correct (ie not scaled) on both the iPad and iPhone. He does not want to actually create separate versions, or a universal version of the app. The app will remain iPhone only, but the icon would need to show up proper on both devices. This is a "business decision", and I think its rather silly but regardless - is this possible? OR would we have to create a universal version?

  • DDD and avoiding CRUD

    It seems that on most articles I read, CRUD is to be avoided in DDD as we are dealing with modeling business process and not data. However, I find it hard to see not to have CRUD operations on certain entities. For example, in a school grading system, before teachers can grade students, a SchoolYear has to be present or perhaps a GradingPeriod. I can't see how we can manage GradingPeriods without CRUD. Could someone enlighten me on this?

    I am trying to execute a query in oracle db. When i try to run thru SQLTools the query is executing in 2 seconds and when i run the same query thru JAVA it is exectuting in more than a minute. I am using a hint /*+ordered use_nl (a, b)*/ I am using ojdbc6.jar Is it because of any JARS? Please help whats causing this?

My wondering is a Programming/Business question, so here what I am thinking about, One of my big goals is to design a Computer Operating System, however if it will be just for fun, knowledge or even to be the next Windows or Linux, so if I had Programmed one, with GUI (windows,lists,buttons,etc..) and for example I will make it for Commercial use, Will Microsoft or Apple comes and drop me in legal problems just like what happened in GUI war between the two of them(Apple and Microsoft)?     I am working on the Login module of my Struts2 app. I have created the Login Page, and a home Page(which is rendered by Login.action). Now i want to add another feature, forgot password which after performing its business must call the Login.action so that the user need not have to Login explicitly. what should i code and where so that as soon as the ForgotPassword.action finishes its work it passes control to Login.action.
