  • Key Value Database For Windows?

    - by Axl
Other than MongoDB and Memcached, what key-value stores run on Windows? Most of the ones I've seen seem to only run on Linux (Hypertable, Redis, Lightcloud). Related links: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/639545/is-there-a-business-proven-cloud-store-keyvalue-database-open-source http://www.metabrew.com/article/anti-rdbms-a-list-of-distributed-key-value-stores/

  • Type problem with Observable.Create from Boo

    - by Tristan
I'm trying to use Reactive Extensions from Boo and am running into type problems. Here's the basic example: def OnSubscribe(observer as IObservable[of string]) as callable: print "subscribing" def Dispose(): print "disposing" return Dispose observable = System.Linq.Observable.Create[of string](OnSubscribe) observer = System.Linq.Observer.Create[of string]({x as string | print x}) observable.Subscribe(observer) The Subscribe here gives a System.InvalidCastException: Cannot cast from source type to destination type. The issue appears to be with how I'm creating the observable, but I've struggled to see where the type problem arises from. Ideas?

  • Google image Swirl - interactive information visualization

    - by skyde
I have seen this image swirl effect on a visual thesaurus. Is there any open source code for this? Or research paper explaining how they made it. I don't care about the algorithm to match similar objects. I only am wondering about the effects. From what i understand they are called recursive orbital diagram. • Negative Primary Keys

    - by bjax
Are there any repercussions using Negative Primary Keys for tables (Identity Increment -1, Identity Seed -1 in SQL Server 2005)? The reason for this is we're creating a new database to replace an existing one. There are similar tables between the two databases and we'd like the "source" of the information to be transparent to our applications. The approach is to create views that unions tables from both databases. Negative PKs ensures the identities don't overlap.

  • Eclipse Javadoc tooltip help doesn't show classes' supertypes and interfaces

    - by Pooria
I'm talking about the tooltip that pops up when you hover your mouse over a class in your source (which also helps with intellisense and auto completion), which describes what a class/method/etc does. I find it very annoying that it doesn't show what superclass the class (being described) extends or what interfaces it implements. Is there a way to make eclipse show the additional information?

  • Collapsing parent POM into the child

    - by Robert Munteanu
Given a maven project with a parent POM - including mostly plugin and dependency versions - how can I generate a POM which takes the information from the parent, places it into the child and removes the reference to the parent? Ideally this would be done with the maven-assembly-plugin. Update: I need this done automatically, since manually it's boring and tedious. Update 2: I'm preparing the source code for an external and want to deliver only one project, not the whole family.

  • Pros and cons of escaping strategies in symfony

    - by zergu
I am still not sure in that matter. While turned on we're quite safe but some other problems appear (with passing template variables or counting characters). On the other hand we have magic turned off, everything is clear, but we have to manually escape every variable (that come from untrusted source) in templates. By the way, non-magic solution is used in Ruby-on-Rails. So the question is: when starting a new project in symfony do you disable escaping_strategy and why?

  • How does Lucene work

    - by Midhat
I am trying to find out how lucene search works so fast. Cant find any useful docs on the web. If you have anything (short of lucene source code) to read, let me know. A text search query using mysql5 text search with index takes about 18 minutes in my case. A lucene search for the same query takes less than a second

  • Image storage as a service

    - by Samuel
Google App Engine provides a image API for storing / retrieving images. We are currently not in a position to deploy our application on top of App Engine because of limitations in the java frameworks (jboss seam 2.2.0) we are using to build our j2ee application. We would eventually want to deploy our production application on top of Google App Engine, but what are the short term options (java based open source products) which provides comparable functionality to Google App Engine's Image API and will have an easier migration path at a later point in time.

  • How do Python and PHP compare for ecommerce?

    - by Ibn Saeed
If I were to start an ecommerce store, which language would you suggest I start with? Python or PHP? And would it be wise to use Python for an ecommerce site in favor of PHP? PHP has lots of shopping carts, both open source and commercial. Is Python the future of Web Development ? Edit: I would like to clear out that i am not asking for Shopping carts solutions and links to them.

  • Browser side code editor component

    - by Serious
Hello, do you know any browser-side component, in HTML/Javascript, Flash, Applet or Silverlight, that would allow source code edition with syntax highlighting and auto-completion. CodeMirror has a good syntax highlighting support but does not seem to support auto-completion. If no such editor exists do you know any way to implement auto-completion using HTML and javascript or any other browser-side technology ? Thanks by advance.
