  • Use textbox value on submit as a query string variable

    - by Eric
How would I take a text box value and use it in the query string on submit? I'd like it to start as this, /News?favorites=True and end up something like this after the user enters in a search and clicks search. /News?query=test&favorites=True The controller action looks like this public ActionResult Index(string query, bool favorites) { //search code } This question is something close to what I'd like to do, but I'd like to use the query string and maintain the existing values in the query string. Thanks.

  • What RSS/Atom standard to use for feed generation?

    - by fsb
Reading online about this topic is confusing. Is there a way to cut around the history, politics and technicalities to answer the question: Which standard should I refer to when I write code to generate feeds? I want to use UTF-8 encoding, which may affect the choice. Otherwise I'm most interested in compatibility with a decent range of readers.

  • Did "general education" classes make you a better programmer?

    - by Big Johnson
I'm surprised by the number of general education classes computer science students must complete to get their bachelors. For example, I must take: three English classes two history classes public speaking economics biology I hardly think these general education requirements are unique to the university I attend. My question is (for those of you who have degrees), in what ways have these general education requirements improved your career as a programmer?

  • Updates to .NET Compact Framework in 2010?

    - by Vaccano
This question (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/245566/net-compact-framework-4-0) asked this back before the release of VS 2010. The answer basically said to wait for the release. Now that the release is here, does anyone know? Is there an upgrade/update to the .NETCF? something past .NETCF 3.5?

    - by petejamd

If not, is there an alternative?

  • Clickonce appref.ms argument

    - by alan
I have a clickonce application that is available online or offline. The program takes an argument. When online I pass the argument on the url like so "url?argument" and it works well. Offline i start a process with the startmenu link to the application. My question is, is it possible to pass an argument to my application via this link? I guess I could somehow work out the location of the application file but is there an alternative?

  • Do I need to perform a commit after a rebase?

    - by Benjol
I've just rebased a feature branch onto another feature branch (in preparation for rebasing everything to the head of my master), and it involved quite a few tricky merge resolutions. Is the rebase automatically saved as a commit somewhere? Just where do those modifications live? I can't see anything in gitk, or git log --oneline. (Same question for when I merge back my branch after rebasing.)

  • Include code file into C#? Create library for others?

    - by Tomas
Hi, I would like to know how can I embedd a code source file (if possible), something like that: class X { include "ClassXsource" } My second question - Can I build DLL or something like that for my colleagues to use? I need them to be able to call methods from my "part" but do not modify or view their content. Basically just use namespace "MyNamespace" and call its methods, but I have never done anything like that. Thanks

  • What data actually gets cached in InnoDB/MySQL?

    - by ming yeow
Hi folks, i am trying to optimize performance for my database. My question is - what get cached in the db memory? For example: (table with 2 columns: key (indexed), data (not indexed) updated (not indexed) Select * where updated=20100202 (the db will do a scan - will the scanned rows be kept in memory?) Select * where key = 20 (the db will refer to the index - will the identified rows be kept in memory?)

  • How to push_back without operator=() for const members?

    - by WilliamKF
How to push_back() to a C++ std::vector without using operator=() for which the default definition violates having const members? struct Item { Item(int value) : _value(value) { } const int _value; } vector<Item> items; items.push_back(Item(3)); I'd like to keep the _value const since it should not change after the object is constructed, so the question is how do I initialize my vector with elements without invoking operator=()?

  • How to get number of entries in a Lua table?

    - by romkyns
Sounds like a "let me google it for you" question, but somehow I can't find an answer. The Lua # operator only counts entries with integer keys, and so does table.getn: tbl = {} tbl["test"] = 47 tbl[1] = 48 print(#tbl, table.getn(tbl)) -- prints "1 1" count = 0 for _ in pairs(tbl) do count = count + 1 end print count -- prints "2" How do I get the number of all entries?

  • Ignore deleted files in git?

    - by matthavener
Is it possible to ignore deleted files in git? git update-index --assume-unchanged allows me to ignore modifications, but it still tracks deletions. (This is similar, but I couldn't find where "John Doe" restated his question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/655243/ignore-modified-but-not-committed-files-in-git)

  • How did you choose a technology to specialize in

    - by Tomh
I know it is kind of subjective, but as I've seen questions around like "How did you land your first job" etc. I thought it might be suitable. With so many technologies coming out these days and employers asking for specialists in those (no one is looking for generalists), I'm wondering how people here managed to pick one technology (or area) and focus on that. If this question is not suitable here, then where can I ask?
