  • How to create sleek customized buttons, tables and other views for iPhone/iPad apps?

    I'm looking to know both what can be customized as well as the recommended way to customize some of the major UIView subclasses in the iPhone SDK (in particular UIButton, UITableView/Cell ... but really open to any of the views in the SDK). Any recommended tutorials? Examples? Are there bad practices that can actually hinder performance and/or destablize your app in any way that should be avoided? Thanks

  • Can I get a person's display name or composite name from Apple AddressBook on OSX platform?

    I have come across ABRecordCopyCompositeName() in these pages but, having Spotlighted it, have a hunch it's only available for the IOS platform. The AddressBook app itself, and ABPeoplePicker obviously do something similar internally, so is there an equivalent API for OSX? It's a tedious thing to retrieve title, first name, middle name, last name, suffix and work out if it's a company before building it yourself.

  • How to disable click sound in WebBrowser Control

    I use Javascript to click a link in the webbrowser control. But I don't want to hear IE's "click" sound. Is there anyway to do this? P.S. I don't want to change system settings. I've seen this one(http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10456/howto-disable-webbrowser-click-sound-in-your-app-only) but Document.Write is not an option for me.

  • using ruby-debug with jruby-1.5.0

    Release notes say that ruby-debug is installed by default. I'm using rvm. In my rails app I figured something as simple as script/server --debugger would suffice, but it complains that the ruby-debug gem isn't installed, suggests using gem install ruby-debug, which of course doesn't work (building native extensions) and is contrary to the docs anyway. Just wondering if anyone's had any luck using the built in ruby-debug in jruby 1.5 and what one needs to do in order run jruby in debug mode

    I need to make an NSManagedObject without saving it, how can I do this? I have tried insetting one without a context but the app crashes.     As I get closer to releasing my first public iPhone app I'm concerned about catching crashes in the field. I'm curious to hear how others have gone about this. I'm not sure what's possible outside of the debugger. Is all lost with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS or can I still catch it and get something useful into a log? Is the program main() the spot to put a @try/@catch?

  • What could cause Django to start failing its own tests after an OS and Django reinstall?

    I had to reinstall my OS, and so, I reinstalled django 1.1. Since reinstalling, when I run tests in my app, I get several failures from django.contrib.auth. Logs: http://dpaste.com/178153/ I asked on #django, and no one is too sure what the cause of the errors are. Some of my own code fails its tests, because it's not fully written yet, but that shouldn't cause django to fail it's core tests... I have included django.contrib.admin, which was mentioned as a possible cause.

Here is the code: SmsManager sm=SmsManager.getDefault(); sm.sendTextMessage("9999", null, messageBody,sentPI, deliveredPI); messageBody maybe empty string and maybe it is a string, previous method throws IllegalArgumentException when messageBody is empty string! what can I do to send blank SMS?

    I noticed that Kohana 3 ORM runs a "SHOW FULL COLUMNS" for each of my models when I start using them: SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM `mytable` This query might take a few clock cycles to execute (in the Kohana profiler it's actually the slowest of all queries ran in my current app). Is there a way to help Kohana 3 ORM to speed up by disabling this behaviour and explicitly define the columns in my models instead?

    I am planning to use py2exe to make an application developped with Python 2.6. It seems that my app need the VC redistribuables : http://www.py2exe.org/index.cgi/Tutorial#Step5 I've read this tutorial and the redistribuables license agreement and I am not sure if I can freely redistribute these files with my program. (I don't have VS2008 license) Can I bundle the redistribs into an installer and make the installation transparent for the user or do they have to download the files by their own from Microsoft website? It needs to store a few GB of data and SQL Azure is too expensive for me, so I'll use Azure tables in the cloud version. Can you recommend a storage solution, which will run on standalone servers and have an API and behavior similar to Azure tables? From what I've seen Server AppFabric does not include Tables. TIA
