How to detect iPhone movement in space using accelerometer ?

Hi ! I am trying to make an application that would detect what kind of shape you made with your iPhone using accelerometer. As an example, if you draw a circle with your hand holding the iPhone, the app would be able to redraw it on the screen. This could also work with squares, or even more complicated shapes. The only example of application I've seen doing such a thing is AirPaint (http://vimeo.com/2276713), but it doesn't seems to be able to do it in real time. My first try is to apply a low-pass filter on the X and Y parameters from the accelerometer, and to make a pointer move toward these values, proportionally to the size of the screen. But this is clearly not enought, I have a very low accuracy, and if I shake the device it also makes the pointer move... Any ideas about that ? Do you think accelerometer data is enought to do it ? Or should I consider using other data, such as the compass ? Thanks in advance !

Deleting from 2 arrays of dictionaries

I have an array of dictionaries loaded from a plist (below) called arrayHistory. <plist version="1.0"> <array> <dict> <key>item</key> <string>1</string> <key>result</key> <string>8.1</string> <key>date</key> <date>2009-12-15T19:36:59Z</date> </dict> ... </array> </plist> I filter this array based on 'item' so that a second array, arrayHistoryDetail has the same structure as arrayHistory but only contains e.g. 'item's equal to '1'. These detail items are successfully displayed in a tableView. I then want to select an item from the tableView, and delete it from the tableView data source, arrayHistoryDetail (line 2 in the code below) - works, then I want to delete the item from the tableView itself (line 3 in the code below) - also works. My problem is that I also need to delete it from the original arrayHistory, so I tried the following: created a temporary dictionary as an ivar: NSMutableDictionary *tempDict; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableDictionary *tempDict; Then my thinking was to make a copy in line 1 and remove it from the original array in line 4. 1 tempDict = [arrayHistoryDetail objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; 2 [arrayHistoryDetail removeObjectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; 3 [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; 4 [arrayHistory removeObject:tempDict]; Didn't work. Could someone please guide me in the right direction. I'm thinking that tempDict is a pointer and that removeObject needs a copy? I don't know. Thanks.

JSF - Random Number using Beans (JAVA)

I am trying to create a jsf application which, upon page refresh increments the hit counter and generates two random numbers. What should be displayed on the window may look something like this: On your On your roll x you have thrown x and x For this program I decided to create two Beans, one to hold the page refresh counter and one to generate a random number. I have a csv file that is being loaded in my programme. It contains citys and areas and some other stuff (not important here). Once the csv is selected I load the data into several comboboxes. 1 Thing is not working, I have a combobox containing all the citys and now I need to list all the areas for that country based on selection from the combobox. REST design: what verb and resource name to use for a filtering service

I am developing a cleanup/filtering service that has a method that receives a list of objects serialized in xml, and apply some filtering rules to return a subset of those objects. In a REST-ful service, what verb shall I use for such a method? I thought that GET is a natural choice, but I have to put the serialized XML in the body of the request which works but feels incorrect. The other verbs don't seem to fit semantically. What is a good way to define that Service interface? Naming the resource /Cleanup or /Filter seems weird mainly because in the examples I see online, it is always a name rather than a verb being used for resource name. Am I right to feel that REST services are better suited for CRUD operations and you start bending the rules in situations like this service? If yes, am I then making a wrong architectural choice. I've pushed to develop this service in REST-ful style (as opposed to SOAP) for simplicity, but such awkward cases happen a lot and make me feel like I am missing something. Either choosing REST where it shouldn't be used or may be over-thinking some stuff that doesn't really matter? In that case, what really matters?

making an SQL date column visible to a Drupal view

I'm trying to make a table visible to Views. One of the columns has type date (as opposed to a Unix timestamp). Determine if a directory is empty, delete it if it is and delete that directroy name from a separate list. C-shell

I have a directory named STA. Within that directory are about 600 other directories that have the format hh:mm:ss (for example 00:01:34). Within each of these sub-directories should be three files. I also have a file, 'waveformlist', (contained within STA) which is a list of all of these sub-directories i.e.: 00:01:34 00:02:35 etc. A lot of the sub-directories do not contain these three files and are instead empty. I want to run a C-shell script to go through every sub directory and check if it is empty. If it is empty I want to delete that sub directory from the main directory STA, and also remove that sub-directory name from the list 'waveformlist'. Below is my script so far. It does not recognize when the sub-directory is empty or not and does not like the rm $dir line. Loading specific files from arbitrary directories?

I want to load foo.txt. foo.txt might exist in the data/bar/ directory, or it might exist in the data/New Folder/ directory. There might be a different foo.txt in both of these directories, in which case I would want to either load one and ignore the other according to some order that I've sorted the directories by (perhaps manually, perhaps by date of creation), or else load them both and combine the results somehow. The latter (combining the results of both/all foo.txt files) is circumstantial and beyond the scope of this question, but something I want to be able to do in the future. I'm using SDL and boost::filesystem. I want to keep my list of dependencies as small as possible, and as cross-platform as possible. I'm guessing that my best bet would be to get a list of every directory (within the data/ folder), sort/filter this list, then when I go to load foo.txt, I search for it in each potential directory? This sounds like it would be very inefficient, if I have dozens of potential directories to search through every time. What's the best way to go about accomplishing this? Bonus: What if I want some of the directories to be archives? ie. considering both data/foo/ and data/bar.zip to both be valid, and pull foobar.txt from either one without caring.

Python Webkit browser's inspector is missing a few things

I would like to debug this issue, but since the inspector object isn't a webview object, I'm not sure I can add an inspector to the inspector? (like how you can use F12 when inspector is its own window in Chrome/Chromium, which lets you debug that inspector). It should be possible, but maybe not with pyGTK?

Weird GWT issue causing IE threads to skyrocket.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with GWT, JavaScript, Java, IE or just poor programming, but I'll try to explain. We're implementing web based chat program at work and some of our users have unreliable connections. So we're running into issues where they send out a new message and after x number of milliseconds have passed, the XHR request timesout and the client tries to resend the message again. The issue we ran into was sometimes the message would make it to the server and into the DB, but the XHR request wouldn't make it back to the client so the client was essentially retrying requests that had alread made it to the server. To mitigate this issue, we now send along a count/key with the message. The client says, hey I'm sending msg 50 and it's text is this. If the server already has that message, it just sends back "ok, I got it" and doens't insert into the DB again, eliminating dupes. So the client is free to keep retrying over and over until finally a call comes back from the server saying "Ok, I got it" and then it increments the key and moves on (or we keep them out of the chat if it fails enough). Anyway, so that's the background of what we're doing. The issue is, when we add this code on some versions of IE the threads start increasing gradually everytime it's accessed. On IE8 for Windows7 x64 it doesn't really seem to do it, but on IE8 for Windows Vista x86 it does. So I can't really pinpoint if it's a fluke or my code. Maybe someone had some ideas on a better way to do this. Here is some pseudo code: (the issue seems appear where I increment messageCount? complex css image centering help?

My problem is a bit more complex than the title says. Sorry, I don't know how to be more specific... I'm working on a website and I came across a part where I should display some thumbnails. The thing is, the thumbnails are not matching in dimensions. (I know, it sounds ridiculous, since this is thumbnails are for, right?) No, there is simply NO WAY to create them in the same dimensions!! I've managed to create a HTML+CSS structure to fix this problem, and the images are not stretching to fit their containers if they are smaller while keeping their aspect ratio. The only issue remaining, is to center the images. Since setting margin to "0 auto" or "auto 0" are not helping, I've tried setting up multiple containers and setting the margins to position the images. This is also not working: if I put a 120x120 picture in a 120x80 inner container, and I set the container's top and left margin to -50%, the margins become -60px both. Can this be fixed? Or is there yet another way to center images? I'm open to any suggestions! Child elements changing opacity with parent Image

I have a <div> element which has a background image. On top of that I have some text that is hidden but when the user hovers over the <div> element that text will show and the <div> opacity will lower. My problem is when you hover over the div all elements inside that change opacity as well. I have looked through stackoverflow to see if anyone has the same problem but all i found were answers that had RGBA using background colors (not images). expanding/collapsing div using jQuery

I'm trying to expand and collapse a <div> by clicking some text inside the <div>. The behavior right now is very odd. For example, if I click the text after the <div> is expanded... the <div> will collapse and then expand again. Also, if I click somewhere inside the div after it is expanded, it will collapse again, and I think that is because I'm triggering the animation since the <div> being animated is inside the wrapper <div>. How to do an intersection or overlap query in mongo shell - what circles overlap my search region? Within relate only to the center position but doesn't include radius of the other circles in searched scope. Mongodb, linq driver. How to construct Contains with variable or statements

I'm using the LINQ Driver for C#, works great. Sorting a lot of properties but heres a problem I can't solve, its probebly simple. var identifierList = new []{"10", "20", "30"}; var newList = list.Where(x => identifierList.Contains(x.Identifier)); This is NOT supported ... So I could do something like: var newList = list.Where(x => x.Identifier == "10" || x.Identifier == "20" || x.Identifier == "30"); But since the list is variable ... how do I construct the above? Or are there even better alternatives? The list is of type IQueryable<MyCustomClass> For information ... this is used as a filter of alot of properties. In SQL I could have a parent - child relationship. But as I can't as the parent for the main ID I need to take all the ID's out and then construct it like this. Hopes this makes sense. If needed I will explain more.

Can I automate a loop query based on category with the page's title?

To explain further, I need to get a page to display posts from a specific category. I want to automate this process so I don't have to make a template for each category. How would I do that? (keep in mind the person I'm building this is for has no coding experience.) The only way I could think off from the top of my head is to use the title or slug. So if the category is named the same thing as the slug, could I filter by category using the slug? Maybe this isn't the best way... what should I do? Navigation Controller with Tab Bar only on first view

I am seeking advice on how to start my project. I need to use a combination of the navigation controller and tabbar controller but on the second screen, I need the tabbar controller not to be there. Here is a brief description of the two main screens Screen 1 will have a tabbar controller with two tabs. The first tab is a tableview and when you tap on a table cell, it drills down to Screen 2. The second tab is just a filter view that updates the table in the first tab of Screen 1. Screen two is just a details screen from the cells of Screen 1. The catch is that I don't want the TabBar on Screen 2. I am struggling with how to get started. Do I start with a Navigation-based application since I need to be able to drill down? How do I just add a tab bar to the main screen of the navigation based app? I can't start with a Tab Bar application because if I load a navigation controller inside one of the views of the tab controller, then when I drill down inside the nav controller, the tab bar still stays on the next screen when I need it to go away. Any help would be appreciated.
