How to (try)parse a single String to DateTime in "DD/MM/YYYY" format? (VB.Net)
For example: I use input string "30/12/1999" (30 December 1999), how to (try)parse it to DateTime?
First time I am bit disappointed in StackOverflow cause my http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2571727/c-concurrency-vs-java-concurrency-which-is-neatly-designed-which-is-better question was closed.
My intension was just trying to gather knowledge from programming guru's who worked in both the programming technologies. Rather closing this question, please help me by discussing what is good, bad, and ugly in multi-threading part in both the platforms.
It is also welcome, if someone would like to compare with .Net 4.0 with JDK 6 (or JDK 7)
Hello All,
We are planning to move to .NET framework 4.0 sometime soon...
I don't remember the refernce or link, but recently, I read about the latest framework being a little slow in performance when compared to its predecessors.
Is that true? has anybody done any tests or have some valid arguments to support this?
I have an application that I want to be able to use large numbers and very precise numbers. For this, I needed a precision interpretation and IntX only works for integers.
Is there a class in .net framework or even third party(preferably free) that would do this?
Is there another way to do this?
Is there any built in method in the .NET library that will return all of the MX records for a given domain? I see how you get CNAMES, but not MX records.
I am trying to set the Text property of a drop down list option like this:
<asp:ListItem Value="AB" Text='<%= Resources.Get("USA") %>'></asp:ListItem>
But it isn't working, instead the Text value is literally <%= Resources.Get("USA") %> and not the string "USA".
i.e. it is not being interpreted as code.
What is the problem?
Basically, this question with a difference...
Is it possible to capture print output from a TSQL stored procedure in .NET, using the Entity Framework?
The solution in the other question doesn't work for me. It works with the connection type from System.Data.SqlClient but I'm using the one from System.Data.EntityClient which does not have an InfoMessage event. (Of course, I could just create an SQL connection based on the Entity connection settings, but prefer to do it directly.)
When using repository based persistence in a .net application, which collection type should normally be used?
IList, IEnumerable?
For example, the FindAll() method.
Just wondering if it is possible to figure out who has read files from a Windows share (using .NET ideally but win32 native will do)?
What I'm try to do is create something like awstats for a windows share so I can see who is accessing what and which are the most popular files.
I'm not interested in changes - I just want to log access (with time) along with ip / hostname and what file.
What ways do I have in .net to run code from string?
Console.WriteLine("1 + 2 * 3"); // results is 7.
What other options do we have?
C# - Compile the code on runtime?
IronRuby / IronPython?
F#?
I would like to write application which will iterate trough certain test cases and generated output in HTML file.
For this i would like to have something using which i can keep appending the HTML nodes to the output for each test case. Is there nice way in .NET for doing so ? How ?
Any pointers or suggestions will be helpful.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en
there we can see:
Full Package
To download the full package, rather than the bootstrapper, click on the link below:
.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package)
but this "Full" package still requires 50mb to download over the internet.
Is it possible to get the really-Full package to install on the desktop that haven't internet at all?
Was discussing over lunch why several ports of languages to the .net framework are prefixed with 'Iron'.
e.g.
IronPython
IronRuby
IronLisp
IronScheme
IronPHP
Anyone out there know?

Why html agility pack is used to parse the information from the html file ? Is not there inbuilt or native library in the .net to parse the information from the html file ? If there then what is the problem with inbuilt support ? What the benefits of using html agility pack versus inbuilt support for parsing information from the html file ?
I just started using the WPF WebBrowser that is included in Net 3.5 SP1. I built my setup project (which I have been using prior to moving to 3.5 SP1) and installed it on a test machine but the WebBrowser was not available.
What must I do to be sure that the setup.exe/msi combination checks for and installs SP1?
Hi,
I am using asp.net with C#.
To increase the searchibility of my site in google, I have searched & found out that I can do it by using my robots.txt , but I really don't have any idea how to create it and where can I place my tag like 'asp.net, C#' in my txt file.
Also, the necessary steps to to include it in my application.
Please help.
Thanks in advance
Is this possible to have two (or more) different kinds of cells to be displayed interchangeably in single column of C# .Net 3.5 WinForms DataGridView?
I know one column has specified single EditingControl type, yet I think grid is flexible enough to do some tricks, I may think of only:
Adding as many invisible columns to grid as required types of cells and on CellBeginEdit somehow exchange current cell with other column's cell
Creating custom column and custom cell with possibility of changing EditingControl for single cell
Which approach is better, is there any other solution, are there any examples ?
When I learned Java, I was told that the arraylist works this way:
It creates an array with room for 10 elements.
When the 11th element is added, it is created a new list with room for 20 elements, and the 10 elements are copied into the new array. This will repeat as until there are no more elements to add, or to a maximum size.
Is the List in .NET constructed the same way?
Let's assume the following:
I have an IIS web site set up
IIS is configured to use Digest authentication
I'm running an ASP.NET page
The page has a code-behing assembly that overrides Page_Load
When a user navigates to that page, I get a security prompt for the username and password. If the username and password are invalid (i.e. incorrect password) is there a way for the called page, in Page_Load to know, or does IIS handle this and return the 401 before the ASP.NET engine ever gets around to resolving the actual Page class that will get executed?
First: sorry for my poor English writing.
I remember that in VB6.0 days, we had some modules just for popular tasks like making disabled/enabled all buttons of a toolbar buttons or like calculating records count in a specific recordset.
Now, in .Net days, What is your approach for doing such these popular tasks? Do you create a static class?
Thank you
I'd like to parse, manipulate and publish a swf file. I've heard of similar things in Java (JavaSWF) but haven't come across anything for .NET. Has anybody seen something like this? If not any suggestions on where to start?
Is it possible to get information about post field order in ASP.NET? I need to know whether some field was the last one or not.
I know I can do it through Request.InputStream, but I’m looking for a more high level solution without manually stream parsing.
Generally I’m doing testing of http post sent by my application and there is no practical usage for this in ASP.NET.
Hi All,
I am developing an application for a Windows CE OS.
I am using .Net Compact Framework 3.5.
I want to localize my control texts on my form , and I am looking for the fastest way and compatible to compact framework using C#.
Please guide me with your valuable ideas how can I do it ?
