  In Scala, does calling isEmtpy method on an instance of Stream class cause the stream to be evaluated completely? • Efficient way to update SQL 'relationship' table

  Say I have three properly normalised tables. One of people, one of qualifications and one mapping people to qualifications: People: id | Name ---------- 1 | Alice 2 | Bob Degrees: id | Name --------- 1 | PhD 2 | MA People-to-degrees: person_id | degree_id --------------------- 1 | 2 # Alice has an MA 2 | 1 # Bob has a PhD So then I have to update this mapping via my web interface. (I made a mistake. Bob has a BA, not a PhD, and Alice just got her B Eng.) There are four possible states of these one-to-many relationship mappings: was true before, should now be false was false before, should now be true was true before, should remain true was false before, should remain false what I don't want to do is read the values from four checkboxes, then hit the database four times to say "Did Bob have a BA before? Well he does now." "Did Bob have PhD before? Because he doesn't any more" and so on. How do other people address this issue? I'm curious to see if someone else arrives at the same solution I did.

• How can I control the width of JTextFields in Java Swing?

  I am trying to have several JTextFields on a single row, but I don't want them to have the same width. How can I control the width and make some of them wider than others? I want that they together take up 100% of the total width, so it would be good if I could use some kind of weigthing. I have tried with .setColumns() but it doesn't make sense. • jQuery Validation plugin results in empty AJAX POST

  Hi, I have tried to solve this issue for at couple of days with no luck. I have a form, where I use the validation plugin, and when I try to submit it, it submits empty vars. Now, if I remove the validation, everything works fine. My problem is that delta indexing works only for the Discussion model and not for the User model. For ex: When I update the 'title' of a discussion, I can see the thinking sphinx is rotating the indices etc. (as is evident from the logs). But when I update the 'first_name' or the 'last_name' of a user, nothing happens. The User model also has a has_many :through association through a model called GroupsUser. I have setup a after_save on the GroupsUser as follows: def set_user_delta_flag user.delta = true user.save end Even this doesn't seem to trigger delta indexing on the User model. A similar setup for the Discussion model works perfectly! Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

What's curdling my cheese is if I UNCHECK one of those boxes. Despite e.preventDefault(), the checked attribute is set to false BEFORE the test, so the if statement always executes the else statement. I've also tried this with $.is(':checked'), so I'm completely baffled. It appears that unchecked - checked state reads the original state, but checked - unchecked doesn't. Any help?

  I'm trying to write a decorator that 'refreshes' after being called, but where the refreshing only occurs once after the last function exits. If b() is called, I want the refresh function to be run after exiting b(), but not after a() when called by b().   Thanks to the great post at OranLooney.com I was able to get a java/icefaces web-app to resize nicely on the ipad, however the code provided for double click doesn't seem to work without further customization. Now I get a popup asking me where to save it, but I would like it to save it under a default name and path AND encoded in UTF-8. • jQuery Tablesorter - column not sorting alphabetically

  I'm not sure what's going wrong here. This is the page: http://www.utexas.edu/ssw/cswr/projects/project-list/ The first column sorts, but it isn't returning data in the correct order (alphabetical). The table itself is being generated by a custom PHP function that pulls info from a WordPress database. I thought that might be the issue, but as you can see the fourth column (End Date) sorts correctly. I also thought it might be the links in the first column that were messing things up, but adding the text-extraction code from this page broke the sorting altogether. • Save PyML.classifiers.multi.OneAgainstRest(SVM()) object?

  I'm using PYML to construct a multiclass linear support vector machine (SVM). After training the SVM, I would like to be able to save the classifier, so that on subsequent runs I can use the classifier right away without retraining. Unfortunately, the .save() function is not implemented for that classifier, and attempting to pickle it (both with standard pickle and cPickle) yield the following error message: pickle.PicklingError: Can't pickle : it's not found as __builtin__.PySwigObject Does anyone know of a way around this or of an alternative library without this problem? Thanks. Edit/Update I am now training and attempting to save the classifier with the following code: mc = multi.OneAgainstRest(SVM()); mc.train(dataset_pyml,saveSpace=False); for i, classifier in enumerate(mc.classifiers): filename=os.path.join(prefix,labels[i]+".svm"); classifier.save(filename); Notice that I am now saving with the PyML save mechanism rather than with pickling, and that I have passed "saveSpace=False" to the training function. However, I am still gettting an error: ValueError: in order to save a dataset you need to train as: s.train(data, saveSpace = False) However, I am passing saveSpace=False... so, how do I save the classifier(s)? P.S. The project I am using this in is pyimgattr, in case you would like a complete testable example... the program is run with "./pyimgattr.py train"... that will get you this error. • does sfWidgetFormSelect provide a string or an int of the selected item?

  Hey guys, I'm having an annoying problem. I'm trying to find out what fields of a form were changed, and then insert that into a table. I managed to var_dump in doUpdateObjectas shown in the following public function doUpdateObject($values) { parent::doUpdateObject($values); var_dump($this->getObject()->getModified(false)); var_dump($this->getObject()->getModified(true)); } And it seems like $this-getObject()-getModified seems to work in giving me both before and after values by setting it to either true or false. The problem that I'm facing right now is that, some how, sfWidgetFormSelect seems to be saving one of my fields as a string. before saving, that exact same field was an int. (I got this idea by var_dump both before and after). Here is what the results on both var dumps showed: array(1) {["annoying_field"]=> int(3)} array(1) {["annoying_field"]=>string(1)"3"} This seems to cause doctrine to think that this is a modification and thus gives a false positive. In my base form, I have under $this->getWidgets() 'annoying_field' => new sfWidgetFormInputText(), under $this->setValidators 'annoying_field' => new sfValidatorInteger(array('required' => false)), and lastly in my configured Form.class.php I have reconfigured the file as such: $this->widgetSchema['annoying_field'] = new sfWidgetFormSelect(array('choices' => $statuses)); statuses is an array containing values like {""a", "b", "c", "d"} and I just want the index of the status to be stored in the database. And also how can I insert the changes into another database table? let's say my Log table? Any ideas and advice as to why this is happen is appreciated, I've been trying to figure it out and browsing google for various keywords with no avail. Thanks! Edit: ok so I created another field, integer in my schema just for testing. I created an entry, saved it, and edited it. this time the same thing happened!

• g++ linker can't find const member function

  I have a Point class (with integer members x and y) that has a member function withinBounds that is declared like so: bool withinBounds(const Point&, const Point&) const; and defined like this: bool Point::withinBounds(const Point& TL, const Point& BR) const { if(x < TL.getX()) return false; if(x > BR.getX()) return false; if(y < TL.getY()) return false; if(y > BR.getY()) return false; // Success return true; } and then in another file, I call withinBounds like this: Point pos = currentPlayer->getPosition(); if(pos.withinBounds(topleft, bottomright)) { // code block } This compiles fine, but it fails to link. g++ gives me this error: /home/max/Desktop/Development/YARL/yarl/src/GameData.cpp:61: undefined reference to 'yarl::utility::Point::withinBounds(yarl::utility::Point const&, yarl::utility::Point const&)' When I make the function not const, it links fine. Anyone know the reason why? The linker error looks like it's looking for a non-const version of the function, but I don't know why it would.

• Merge Multple Worksheets From Multple Workbooks

  Hi, I have found multiple posts on merging data but I am still running into some problems. I have multiple files with multiple sheets. Example 2007-01.xls...2007-12.xls in each of these files are daily data on sheets labeled 01, 02, 03 ..... There are other sheets in the file so I can't just loop through all worksheets. I need to combine the daily data into monthly data, then all of the monthly data points into yearly. On the monthly data I need it to be added to the bottom of the page. • Separating Javascript functions

  I am wondering how javascripts get included in a jsp - can we put any code which the jsp will recognize and not just javascript code only in the .js file? I have some common javascript code which needs to get executed on different pages, so I decided to place it in its own separate .js file and include it on all jsps which call that function. The js function now refers to a key from a properties file and some other non-javascript code: function openPrivacyStmntWindow(){ var url = <h:outputText escape="false" value="\"#{urls.url_privacyStatement}\";" /> newwindow=window.open(url,'Terms','height=600,width=800,left=300,top=100,scrollbars=1'); newwindow.focus(); return false; } This function worked just fine when it was included in the jsp itself. Now that I have separated it into its own file it doesnt, do I need to include the properties bundle in this file. The value="\"#{urls.url_privacyStatement}\";" is referring to a bundle called "urls" which has a key called "url_privacyStatement" Also in Line 1 var url = <h:outputText escape="false" value="\"#{urls.url_privacyStatement}\";" /> the <h:outputText escape="false" ... /> will it cause any issues? Which of these is better? function main() { a(); b(); c(); } or function main() { a(); } function a() { ... b(); } function b() { ... c(); } Case B: They do depend on successful completion of the previous. function main() { if (a()) if (b()) c(); } or function main() { if (!a()) return false; if (!b()) return false; c(); } or function main() { a(); } function a() { ... // maybe return false b(); } funtion b() { ... // maybe return false c(); } Better, of course, means more maintainable and easier to follow.
