  Let's say I have simple Login servlet that checks the passed name and creates User object and stores it in a session. User user = new User(); user.setId(name); request.getSession().setAttribute("user", user); response.sendRedirect("index.jsp"); In the index.jsp page I access the user object through jsp:useBean <jsp:useBean id="user" scope="session" class="package.name.User"/> <div class="panel"> Welcome ${user.id} </div> It works so far. The question: is this a valid usage or it is just current implementation uses the same name as the jsp bean id when stores and looks for a bean in a session?

• Why can I not register a PropertyEditor for String in Spring MVC?

  I'm using Spring 3.0.3. I've enabled the default ConversionService by adding this line to my Spring configuration XML. <mvc:annotation-driven/> I'm also using custom PropertyEditor's for certain data types, so I've registered them for corresponding data types like the following and they work fine. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(Date.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); I have a custom tag library that extends Spring's Form tag library, and I can acess these PropertyEditor's through getPropertyEditor() of AbstractDataBoundFormElementTag. What I don't understand is that I can't register a custom PropertyEditor for String for some reason. The following wouldn't work. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(String.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); When I do getPropertyEditor(), it always returns a ConvertingPropertyEditorAdapter, instead of MyPropertyEditor. Is this a bug? EDIT: I realized that I didn't do some stuff right. Spring works just fine.

  I'm not even sure about how to title this qn. But, hope there is an easy way to do it in dynamic language like groovy. say I have a class Service, where I delegate the business logic. the methods in it are funA(), funB()... funX(). Now I have a controller class, where I call the service closure, which can be invoked like service.funA() . Now based on a variable (which can have values A, B ... X), I need to cal the correct service closure. Basically to avoid writing lot of if conditional statements. Something like service."fun+var"() would do. I'm not sure whether it is possible to substitute variable in closure (function)name. or any way by passing function (name) as a parameter...not sure I think PHP has a similar feature http://php.net/manual/en/functions.variable-functions.php thanks for any pointer..

• Can you get access to the NumberFormatter used by ICU MessageFormat

  This may be a niche question but I'm working with ICU to format currency strings. I've bumped into a situation that I don't quite understand. When using the MesssageFormat class, is it possible to get access to the NumberFormat object it uses to format currency strings. When you create a NumberFormat instance yourself, you can specify attributes like precision and rounding used when creating currency strings. I have an issue where for the South Korean locale ("ko_KR"), the MessageFormat class seems to create currency strings w/ rounding (100.50 - ?100). In areas where I use NumberFormat directly, I set setMaximumFractionDigits and setMinimumFractionDigits to 2 but I can't seem to set this in the MessageFormat. Any ideas?

• Calling a method from within a django model save() override

  I'm overriding a django model save() method. Within the override I'm calling another method of the same class and instance which calculates one of the instance's fields based on other fields of the same instance. class MyClass(models.Model): field1 = models.FloatField() field2 = models.FloatField() field3 = models.FloatField() def calculateField1(self) self.field1 = self.field2 + self.field3 def save(self, *args, **kwargs): self.calculateField1() super(MyClass, self).save(*args, **kwargs) The override method is called when I change the model in admin. Alas I've discovered that within calculateField1() field2 and field3 have the values of the instance from before I edited them in admin. If I enter the instance again in admin and save again, only then field1 receives the correct value as field2 and field3 are already updated. Is this the correct behavior on django's side? If yes, then how can I use the new values within calculateField1? I cannot implement the calculation within the save() as calculateField1() actually quite long and I need it to be called from elsewhere.

• custom button: properties change, button should be redrawn

  Hi I'm developing an Android app. I have class derived from button to represent a special type of button. This special type has some properties (integers) and according to these one or more circles have to be drawn on top of the button. So I overrode the onDraw function, which looks the values up and accordingly draws the circles. But the class has a function to set new values for its properties. So new values are set but the changes are not reflected in the UI. It seems like the onDraw function is not called. When later I click the button or show a pop up message above my interface the onDraw function is called and the button is drawn correctly. So my question: when changing the properties how can I say that the button has to be redrawn? Thanks a lot!

• Is it possible to scan Entities in jar files using JPA and hibernate

  I have the following situation : Project A - Contains a few entities and is independent Project B - Contains a few entities and is independent Project C - Contains few entities and is dependent on Project A & Project B. I am using Maven to manage dependencies and builds. When I try to test Project A and project B it goes through fine. Each of them has a persistence.xml and a separate persistent context. When I run Project C , It does map any of the entities. I have tried to use the auto-detect, specified the jar file attribute ... but nothing seems to work. It gives me a Mapping Exception saying unknown entity and wont persist or read the Entities from Projects A or B. I have posted the 3 persistence.xml files here. Also, I tried using the class attribute and using the same persistent context but it just wont find the files. Any help is really appreciated.   I have various classes which all contain address details, i.e. AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressLine3, Suburb, Town, etc. On the front end, I need to format the address in a particular way, i.e. AddressLine1<br /> AddressLine2<br /> Suburb State Postcode If AddressLine2 does not exist or empty, don't show it. Quite straight-forward. I am trying to determine the best way to show this info. At the moment, the Address property of each class calls a FormatAddress method which writes out the html string. This exists as a method of the class. My opinion is that any formatting should exist from the front-end control i.e. ascx etc. However, if these DetailClasses need to format the same address info, what would be the best option, also making it easier to maintain?

  I have a block of XML in a database which is easy enough to pull out using ASP.NET MVC, however I would like to access and modify the XML in an way more consistent with class instances. Is there a way to get the MVC (or any other model) to generate a data access (or perhaps Entity) class set from the DB-stored XML? • Asp.Net 3.5 Routing to Webservice?

  I was looking for a way to route http://www.example.com/WebService.asmx to http://www.example.com/service/ using only the ASP.NET 3.5 Routing framework without needing to configure the IIS server. Until now I have done what most tutorials told me, added a reference to the routing assembly, configured stuff in the web.config, added this to the Global.asax: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RouteCollection routes = RouteTable.Routes; routes.Add( "WebService", new Route("service/{*Action}", new WebServiceRouteHandler()) ); } ...created this class: public class WebServiceRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { // What now? } } ...and the problem is right there, I don't know what to do. The tutorials and guides I've read use routing for pages, not webservices. Is this even possible? Ps: The route handler is working, I can visit /service/ and it throws the NotImplementedException I left in the GetHttpHandler method.

  I have a graph (with nodes and edges) containing symmetry and a group of permutations to label the nodes so no edges are changed (automorphisms). Now I would like to determine for which nodes a permutation exchanges two equivalent (i.e. nodes with the same color or symmetry class) neighboring nodes. When the nodes with equivalent neighbors stay the same, simply checking if the neighbors are exchanged in the permutation is enough. However, when the nodes with equivalent neighbors are also permuted (i.e. there are multiple nodes with the same color/symmetry class with the same equivalent neighbors), the problem becomes more complex. Is there any known algorithm for such a problem? Some remarks: The graph has no coordinates, it's a topology only

• JavaFX FXML communication between Application and Controller classes

  I am trying to get and destroy an external process I've created via ProcessBuilder in my FXML application close, but it's not working. This is based on the helpful advice Sergey Grinev gave me here. I have tried running with/without the "// myController.setApp(this);" and with "// super.stop();" at top of subclass and at bottom (see commented out/in for that line in MyApp), but no combination works. This probably isn't related to FXML or JavaFX, though I imagine this is a common pattern for developing apps on JavaFX. I suppose I'm asking for a Java best practice for closing dependent processes in a UI-based app like this one (in this case: FXML / JavaFX based), where there is a controller class and an application class. Can you explain what I'm doing wrong? Or better: advise what I should be doing instead? Thanks.
