  • Why is Harvest being purchased at all?

    - by Mike Caron
Does your work environment use Harvest SCM? I've used this now at two different locations and find it appalling. In one situation I wrote a conversion script so I could use CVS locally and then daily import changes to the Harvest system while I was sleeping. The corp was fanatic about using Harvest, despite 80% of the programmers crying for something different. It was needlessly complicated, slow and heavy. It is now a job requirement for me that Harvest is not in use where I work. Has anyone else used Harvest before? What's your experience? As bad as mine? Did you employ other, different workarounds? Why is this product still purchased today?

  • ASP.net debug hangs until I delete vbproj.user

    - by Mike Robertson
Intermittently when I start debugging a web application VS hangs (not responding). It will start OK if I run the appllication without debugging. When it has happened once it will do it every time until I delete the vbporj.user file. This problem appeared when I moved to Win7 64bit. I am using VS2008 Pro and everything is patched up to date. I am using the internal IIS7.

  • Java/Swing: Problem with key listener

    - by Mike
I have a search dialog with a JTextField that's being used as a search box. When the user types something, it searches the DB, shows the result in a JTable and selects the first item in it. If the first result is what they were looking for, I want to let them quickly accept the dialog, by pressing Enter (while the JTextField is focused). So I added a KeyListener to the JTextField and it's working OK. Now the problem: The user opens can open the dialog by pressing Enter when a "Search" button on the dialog's parent frame is focused. The dialog is displayed and the JTextField gets the keyReleased event (from the Enter key that displayed it), so it shows up and closes. If the user holds Enter down, then the JTextField receives the keyPressed, keyTyped and keyReleased events. How can I fix without resorting to ugly workarounds? Platform is Windows 7 x64, btw. Test NetBeans project here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6354360/KeyListenerTest.zip Thanks.

  • Codebase for making a Flash-based interactive map with SVG vector data?

    - by Mike
I'm looking for a way to take SVG path info (basically a string of coordinates) and dynamically draw it with Actionscript. Icing on the cake would be if those shapes could detect mouse events to trigger JS and dynamically change their appearance (fill, stroke, etc...). I'm currently trying something similar to this (http://raphaeljs.com/australia.html) using SVG but it's just too slow in IE. I've also tried Google's SVG Web (http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/) which basically does exactly what I'm looking for (it converts SVG to Flash in IE) but again, it's sloooooow - which is why I'm considering doing the whole shebang in Flash. Anyone know of some links to point me in the right direction?

  • Is there a Netbeans equivalent to Eclipse's Workspace

    - by Mike Cornell
I enjoy using Netbeans, especially for development with Maven, however, I've found recently that I've been working with three different branches of the same code base in different parts of the development cycle. One of the things that Eclipse can do, is separate the projects into different workspaces, so i can simply start Eclipse with the workspace containing my Maven projects in the production patch branch or the trunk depending upon what I need to be working on. I'd love to accomplish this in Netbeans, but haven't found a way to do so. Any ideas?

  • "Invalid use of Null" when using Str() with a Null Recordset field, but Str(Null) works fine

    - by Mike Spross
I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. I was looking at some old database reporting code written in VB6 and case across this line (the code is moving data from a "source" database into a reporting database): rsTarget!VehYear = Trim(Str(rsSource!VehYear)) When rsSource!VehYear is Null, the above line generates an "Invalid use of Null" run-time error. If I break on the above line and type the following in the Immediate pane: ?rsSource!VehYear It outputs Null. Fine, that makes sense. Next, I try to reproduce the error: ?Str(rsSource!VehYear) I get an "Invalid use of Null" error. However, if I type the following into the Immediate window: ?Str(Null) I don't get an error. It simply outputs Null. If I repeat the same experiment with Trim() instead of Str(), everything works fine. ?Trim(rsSource!VehYear) returns Null, as does ?Trim(Null). No run-time errors. So, my question is, how can Str(rsSource!VehYear) possibly throw an "Invalid use of Null" error when Str(Null) does not, when I know that rsSource!VehYear is equal to Null?

  • Export sheet from Excel to CSV

    - by Mike Wills
I am creating a spread sheet to help ease the entry of data into one of our systems. They are entering inventory items into this spread sheet to calculate the unit cost of the item (item cost + tax + S&H). The software we purchased cannot do this. Aan invoice can have one or more lines (duh!) and I calculate the final unit cost. This is working fine. I then want to take that data and create a CSV from that so they can load it into our inventory system. I currently have a second tab that is laid out like I want the CSV, and I do an equal cell (=Sheet!A3) to get the values on the "export sheet". The problem is when they save this to a CSV, there are many blank lines that need to be deleted before they can upload it. I want a file that only contains the data that is needed. I am sure this could be done in VBA, but I don't know where to start or know how to search for an example to start. Any direction or other options would be appreciated.

  • R: how to make a unique set of names from a vector of strings?

    - by Mike Dewar
Hi, I have a vector of strings. Check out my vector, it's awesome: > awesome [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "d" "e" "f" "f" I'd like to make a new vector that is the same length as awesome but where, if necessary, the strings have been uniqueified. For example, a valid output of my desired function would be > awesome.uniqueified [1] "a" "b" "c" "d.1" "d.2" "e" "f.1" "f.2" Is there an easy, R-thonic and beautiful way to do this? I should say my list in real life (it's not called awesome) contains 25000ish mircoarray probeset identifiers. I'm always nervous when I embark on writing little generic functions (which I'm sure I could do) as I'm sure some R guru has come across this problem in the past, nailed it with some incredible algorithm that doesn't even have to store more than half an element in the vector. I'm just not sure what they might have called it. Probably not uniqueify.

  • Font alignment problem in webkit based browsers

    - by Mike
    Here is the code: <style type="text/css"> html, body {font:0.9em/1.2em arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;} #todayOn {background-color:#efefef; repeat-x top left;border-bottom:1px solid #ddd;border-top:1px solid #ddd;height:52px;margin:15px 0;} #todayOn #pageTitle {float:left;padding-left:3px;} #todayOn #pageTitle h2 {color:#feb425;font-size:32px;margin:10px 0 0 0;padding:0;} #todayOn #pageTitle h2 em {color:#7498c0;display:block;font-size:14px;font-style:italic;font-weight:normal;line-height:20px;padding:5px 0 0 0;} </style> <div id="todayOn"> <div id="pageTitle"> <h2>TODAY <em>on this page.com</em></h2> </div> </div> In Firefox, IE (6+), Opera, etc. the subheader "on this page.com" displays vertically how I want it to. In Webkit browsers like Chrome and Safari, it's pushed down a couple more pixels. What's the prob? Thanks.

  • Dell eSATAp not working with some SATA disks

    - by pistache
I have a Dell Inspiron XPS 15 (L502X) laptop, with an eSATAp port. I also have a Western Digital 1TB 3"5 SATA drive, that I'd like to use with the laptop. I bought a eSATAp <- SATA 22-pin cable (from Delock). When I use this cable my 3"5 HDD does NOT power up, no spin up. I thought that it's just this HDD taking too much power from the motherboard. However, I tested too with my 2"5 SATA HDD and it works successfully. Now the weird thing is that this 2"5 HDD takes 1.1A at 5V, and that the 3"5 HDD takes 0.7A at 5V. I don't understand why it can't work. Is there anything I could do for it to work ? What is really the problem ? Thanks for your help, Hugo

  • How to style a standard GWT component (TabBar) differently?

    - by Mike Petterson
I am using a TabBar and I want to style the component in different ways. So one time this style, another time that style. I thought this will work but it didn't: TabBar t = new TabBar(); t.addTab( "1" ); t.addTab( "2" ); t.addStyleName( MyResources.INSTANCE.css().slickTab() ); And: public interface MyCssResource extends CssResource { String slickTab(); } In the CSS .slickTab .gwt-TabBar .gwt-TabBarItem { background-color: #ff0000; font-weight: normal; } But the appearance don't change. What I am doing wrong?

  • C# comparing two files regex problem.

    - by Mike
Hi everyone, what I'm trying to do is open a huge list of files (about 40k records, and match them on a line in a file that contains 2 millions records. And if my line from file A matches a line in file B write out that line. File A contains a bunch of files without extensions and file B contains full file paths including extensions. i'm using this but i cant get it to go... string alphaFilePath = (@"C:\Documents and Settings\g\Desktop\Arrp\Find\natst_ready.txt"); List<string> alphaFileContent = new List<string>(); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(alphaFilePath, FileMode.Open)) using (StreamReader rdr = new StreamReader(fs)) { while (!rdr.EndOfStream) { alphaFileContent.Add(rdr.ReadLine()); } } string betaFilePath = @"C:\Documents and Settings\g\Desktop\Arryup\Find\eble.txt"; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(betaFilePath, FileMode.Open)) using (StreamReader rdr = new StreamReader(fs)) { while (!rdr.EndOfStream) { string betaFileLine = rdr.ReadLine(); string matchup = Regex.Match(alphaFileContent, @"(\\)(\\)(\\)(\\)(\\)(\\)(\\)(\\)(.*)(\.)").Groups[9].Value; if (alphaFileContent.Equals(matchup)) { File.AppendAllText(@"C:\array_tech.txt", betaFileLine); } } } This doesnt work because the alphafilecontent is a single line only and i'm having a hard time figuring out how to get my regex to work on the file that contains all the file paths (Betafilepath) here is a sample of the beta file path. C:\arres_i\Grn\Ora\SEC\DBZ_EX1\Nes\001\DZO-EX00001.txt Here is the line i'm trying to compare from my alpha DZO-EX00001

  • Can we run two simultaneous non-nested loops in Perl?

    - by Mike
Part of my code goes like this: while(1){ my $winmm = new Win32::MediaPlayer; $winmm->load('1.mp3'); $winmm->play; $winmm->volume(100); Do Some Stuff; last if some condition is met; } Problem is: I want the music to be always on when I'm in the Do Some Stuff stage in the while loop. But the length of the music is so short that it will come to a full stop before I go to the next stage, so I want the music to repeat itself, but the Win32::Mediaplayer module does not seem to have a repeat mode, so I'm thinking of doing an infinite loop for the music playing part. Like this: while(1){ my $winmm = new Win32::MediaPlayer; $winmm->load('1.mp3'); $winmm->play; $winmm->volume(100); } while(2){ Do some stuff; last if some condition is met } But based on my current Perl knowledge if I'm in the while(1) part, I can never go to the while(2) part. Even if it comes to a nested loop, I have to do something to break out of the inside loop before going to the other part of the outside loop. The answer to my question "Can we run two simultaneous non-nested loops in Perl?" may be a NO, but I assume there is some way of handling such situation. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks as always for any comments/suggestions :) UPDATE I really appreciate the help from everyone. Thanks :) So the answer to my question is a YES, not a NO. I'm happy that I've learned how to use fork() and threads to solve a real problem :)

  • Firefox proxy delima

    - by Mike L.
Any idea why when using system proxy settings in firefox, it can not accept a proxy such as: user:[email protected]:port ??? IE will allow and connect to a proxy in this format. Not only does firefox not work, but it does not prompt for the password, nor attempt to make a connection to the proxy. Basically get a "proxy server not found" error. Anybody know a way around this? I am working on a proxy switching program for IE & Firefox, and I would like to use system-wide proxy settings. If I just store the server:port combination, firefox prompts for the password, as well as IE. Then they can be cached and it will not ask again. Maybe my only option is to programmatically cache the user/pass? Anybody know a way to do this? I am pretty sure IE stores them at HTTP basic authentication passwords and I can add them with AddCredential. After saving a password for a proxy in firefox, it shows up in saved passwords in a format like "moz-proxy://server:port" anybody know how to programmatically add a saved password to firefox? Thanks

  • How to create a splash activity , call a second activity via a button, simple data form 5 fields and 2 buttons

    - by Mike
New to Android need help with one solid build that I can refer to and study for future projects. The first activity is a background image with a button, when clicked the it takes you to the second activity which is a form with 5 data fields and 2 buttons. One button calls an intent to take a picture within the app and one button that submits the data from the form along with the picture to URL. lastly a third activity that says complete thank you. I can make some of this but don't know how to link button or open and merge camera with the app to be sent as a package of data. I suppose I could also hook into GPS acquire location as well as the camera call?

  • Perl, convert hash to array

    - by Mike
If I have a hash in Perl that contains complete and sequential integer mappings (ie, all keys from from 0 to n are mapped to something), is there a means of converting this to an Array? I know I could iterate over the key/value pairs and place them into a new array, but something tells me there should be a built-in means of doing this.

  • Using Drools to provide error processing and consequence management

    - by Mike
Hi, I am working on a module whose purpose is to process Java exceptions and decide upon a strategy for dealing with them. The exceptions could be things I know about (explicit business exceptions eg TransformationException) or more general environmental stuff (JMS errors, IO errors etc) The facts inserted into the knowledge base are all the same class, and wrap (contain) an Exception. I want to write a rule that will explicitly match the exceptions I know how to deal with (eg TransformationException) and have another rule that catches 'everything else' The problem seems to me to be that for a fact containing a TransformationException, both rules will fire and the output will be uncertain. How would I go about writing such exclusive rules without relying on salience to steer the order of execution (this seems to be bad practice from what I have read)? I have a solution in place that I am not happy with whereby the outcome depends on the order in which the rules are defined in my .drl.

  • Javascript how can I trigger an event that was prevented

    - by Mike Robinson
In my app a user clicks a link to another page. I'd like to track that in Omniture with a custom event, so I've bound the omniture s.t() event to the click event. How can I make certain the event fires before the next page is requested? I've considered event.preventDefault() on the click event of the link, but I actually want the original event to occur, just not immediately.
