• Multiple MySQL instances via mysqlmanager under Debian

  Has anyone got multiple MySQL instances running on Debian with mysqlmanager? Problem is, Debian doesn't ship with init.d script that takes mysqlmanager into account. Oh, and it doesn't work for me. I'm trying to run 3 instances, here's what I get after starting mysqlmanager # mysqlmanager --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/my.cnf ... 090614 0:42:10 starting instance 'mysqld2'... 090614 0:42:10 guardian: starting instance 'mysqld1'... 090614 0:42:10 starting instance 'mysqld1'... 090614 0:42:10 starting instance 'mysqld3'... 090614 0:42:10 guardian: starting instance 'mysqld3'... 090614 0:42:10 guardian: starting instance 'mysqld2'... 090614 0:42:10 starting instance 'mysqld2'... 090614 0:42:10 guardian: starting instance 'mysqld1'... 090614 0:42:10 starting instance 'mysqld1'... ... • PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

  I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated. • Problem connecting to MySQL with zend

  I've set up a virtual host on my local machine (windows xp with xampp installed), have installed zend there and am now trying to connect to the MySQLdatabase. I get the following error message: Message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on ''myhost.com'' (10060) All the tips I've found via google haven't helped. I use kaspersky antivirus and have added port 3306 to the allowed list for MySQL and Apache. I've also pinged myhost.com:3306 and get a response (with ip address 67.63.50.51), though localhost:3306 and 127.0.0.1:3306 aren't found. I've checked that other apps can still access MySQL if the virtual host is pointed at them instead and my non zend apps do work. I guess I have to do something further to the port, or maybe force the app to use a different port, but am not sure how to do either. Any help appreciated.

  This may sound like a really dumb question, but I normally only deal with MSSQL, no LAMP stuff, so I'm struggling to figure out what's going on. I have Windows 7 and have installed MySQL 5.1 through Web Platform Installer. I have HeidiSQL installed to manage data in MySQL, but how do I connect? In Heidi it's asking for 'Hostname / IP' which is prepopulated with 127.0.0.1. It prepopulates the user field to 'root' (which is right) and I'm entering the password I chose when MySQL was installed. However, it just errors when I connect, saying: SQL Error (1045): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES). Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Many thanks...

• Distributing a Python Software for Linux [closed]

  Hi, I am writing my first software in Python for Ubuntu (or Debian based Linux). I am looking for a good advise on the best way to distribute my software. The easist alternative that I can think of at the moment is to archive the python code into *.tar.gz, and let user execute the main python script as an executable to run the software. I realize that this may not be the best approach. I looked at the Debian maintainer guide: "http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/ch-dother.en.html", not too sound lazy, but the guide looks very intimidating for a beginner. Are there any other tutorial that show how to create a debian package for a beginner ? If anyone has a suggestion do let me know. Thanks ^_^

  So we have 2 servers all running at the same web host. We have bind MySQL to listen on the public ip-address of the database server and the web server connects to it from the public ip. Both servers run on the same private network. Currently, the DB connect method from our php script takes about 3ms to connect to the MySQL database server host. My question is, would MySql data interaction from the web server be faster if we bind it to listen on the private lan address on the database server instead of the public IP? or is it the same regardless and it wont make a different.

• MySQL server hangs after approximately 1 month (CentOS)

  Hey guys, I've got a web server running Apache/PHP and MySQL (CentOS), and MySQL seems to hang once every month or so. As far as I can tell, there are a few slow queries that are being resolved, but other than that I can't really see any reason why MySQL would hang. I'm having problems determining the problem - nothing is showing up in /var/log/mysqld.log, and again there are a few slow queries, but nothing out of the ordinary. Load is average at the time of the crashes... Can I please get some hints on how to work out the issue? I can't reproduce on our staging environment, so I'm a little stuck.

  Possible Duplicate: How to copy and move mysql database Dump all databases with SSH access I'm setting up a new dev machine, and I have the old one sitting right next to me. I'd like to do an exact copy of all MySQL structures and data from the old machine to the new. Nothing fancy needs to happen (it's a dev machine). No replication. I don't care about "downtimes" etc. Is there a super simple way to do this? For example, I have SSH on the old server, can I just use Nautilus, do a connect to server, and then transfer a folder over, replacing another folder with it and be done? It's the same version of MySQL on both sides. Same version of Ubuntu. Same in most respects.

• MySQL keeps crashing due to bug

  So about a week ago, I finally figured out what was causing my server to continually crash. After reviewing my mysqld.log I keep seeing this same error, 101210 5:04:32 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 Here is a link to the bug report, http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35346 someone recommend that you set the max_join_size vaule in my.cnf to 4M, and I did. I assumed this fixed the issue, and it was working for about a week with no issues until today... I checked MySQL and the same error is now back, 101216 06:35:25 mysqld restarted 101216 6:38:15 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 101216 6:38:15 [Warning] option 'max_join_size': unsigned value 18446744073709551615 adjusted to 4294967295 101216 06:40:42 mysqld ended Anyone know how I can really fix this issue? • [SOLVED]Can't enable mysql and mysqli extension in PHP [closed]

  I used to had my website hosted at a hosting company. But i decided to start my own webserver and in order to get phpBB, MediaWiki, etc. working i need PHP and MySQL. So after a bit of screwing around i could get those working but the MySQL and MySQLi extensions do not seem to work. When i use phpMyAdmin, phpBB, whatever it would say it is not installed correctly. I uncommented it in php.ini, i put my PHP folder in path, still not working. Please note i am not a PHP developer at all. Using: Windows Server 2003 Small Buisiness (too lazy to install Linux) Apache2 (not sure what version) PHP 5.2 (threaded, manually installed) MySQL 5.5.28 Thanks in advance, -Sydcul EDIT: Solved.   Hello, I'm Sophia. I have an interest in self-learning either Python, or Ruby. The primary reason for my interest is to make my life more stable by having freelance work = $. It seems that programming offers a way for me to escape my condition of poverty (I'm on the edge of homelessness right now) while at the same time making it possible for me to go to uni. I intend on being a math/philosophy major. I have messed with Python a little bit in the past, but it didn't click super well. The people who say I should choose Python say as much because it is considered a good first language/teaching language, and that it is general-purpose. The people who say I should choose Ruby point out that I'm a very right-brained thinker, and having multiple ways to do something will make it much easier for me to write good code. So, basically, I'm starting this thread as a dialog with people who know more than I do, as an attempt to make the decision. :-) I've thought about asking this in stackoverflow, but they're much more strict about closing threads than here, and I'm sort of worried my thread will be closed. :/ TL;DR Python or Ruby for freelance work opportunities ($) as a first language? Additional question (if anyone cares to answer): I have a personal feeling that if I devote myself to learning, I'd be worth hiring for a project in about 8 weeks of work. I base this on a conservative estimate of my intellectual capacities, as well as possessing motivation to improve my life. Is my estimate necessarily inaccurate? random tidbit: I'm in Portland, OR I'll answer questions that are asked of me, if I can help the accuracy and insight contained within the dialog.

  I'm an Ubuntu newbie and have been trying to install python's easy_install so that I don't have to deal with source files when install Python libraries. I"ve ran the following, and it seems to install the correct applications: sudo apt-get install python-setuptools However, when i run easy_install sqlalchemy or easy_install pysqlite3, it doesn't work. • Using Clojure instead of Python for scalability (multi core) reasons, good idea?

  After reading http://clojure.org/rationale and other performance comparisons between Clojure and many languages, I started to think that apart from ease of use, I shouldn't be coding in Python anymore, but in Clojure instead. Actually, I began to fill irresponsisble for not learning clojure seeing it's benefits. Does it make sense? Can't I make really efficient use of all cores using a more imperative language like Python, than a lisp dialect or other functional language? It seems that all the benefits of it come from using immutable data, can't I do just that in Python and have all the benefits? I once started to learn some Common Lisp, read and done almost all exercices from a book I borrowod from my university library (I found it to be pretty good, despite it's low popularity on Amazon). But, after a while, I got myself struggling to much to do some simple things. I think there's somethings that are more imperative in their nature, that makes it difficult to model those thins in a functional way, I guess. The thing is, is Python as powerful as Clojure for building applications that takes advantages of this new multi core future? Note that I don't think that using semaphores, lock mechanisms or other similar concurrency mechanism are good alternatives to Clojure 'automatic' parallelization.

• Why is Python used for high-performance/scientific computing (but Ruby isn't)?

  There's a quote from a PyCon 2011 talk that goes: At least in our shop (Argonne National Laboratory) we have three accepted languages for scientific computing. In this order they are C/C++, Fortran in all its dialects, and Python. You’ll notice the absolute and total lack of Ruby, Perl, Java. It was in the more general context of high-performance computing. Granted the quote is only from one shop, but another question about languages for HPC, also lists Python as one to learn (and not Ruby). Now, I can understand C/C++ and Fortran being used in that problem-space (and Perl/Java not being used). But I'm surprised that there would be a major difference in Python and Ruby use for HPC, given that they are fairly similar. (Note - I'm a fan of Python, but have nothing against Ruby). Is there some specific reason why the one language took off? Is it about the libraries available? Some specific language features? The community? Or maybe just historical contigency, and it could have gone the other way?

  I want to merge data. Following are my MySQL tables. I want to use Python to traverse though a list of both Lists (one with dupe = 'x' and other with null dupes). • Python 3, urllib ... Reset Connection Possible?

  In the larger scale of my program the goal of the below code is to filter out all dynamic html in a web-page source code code snippet: try: deepreq3 = urllib.request.Request(deepurl3) deepreq3.add_header("User-Agent","etc......") deepdata3 = urllib.request.urlopen(deepurl3).read().decode("utf8", 'ignore') The following code is looped 3 times in order to identify whether the target web-page is Dynamic (source code is changed at intervals) or not. If the page IS dynamic, the above code loops another 15 times and attempts to filter out the dynamic content. QUESTION: While this filtering method works 80% of the time, some pages will reload ALL 15 times and STILL contain dynamic code. HOWEVER. If I manually close down the Python Shell and re-execute my program, the dynamic html that my 'refresh-page method' could not shake off is no longer there ... it's been replaced with new dynamic html that my 'refresh-page method' cannot shake off. So I need to know, what is going on here? How is re-running my program causing the dynamic content of a page to change. AND, is there any way, any 'reset connection' command I can use to recreate this ... without manually restarting my app. Thanks for your response.

• MAMP + Python MySQLDB - trouble installing

  I'm currently running the latest version of MAMP on my Snow Leopard OSX, and I'm trying to install MySQLDB.
