  • storing an integer constant other than zero in a pointer variable

    - by benjamin button
int main() { int *d=0; printf("%d\n",*d); return 0; } this works fine. >cc legal.c > ./a.out 0 if i change the statement int *d=0; to int *d=1; i see the error. cc: "legal.c", line 6: error 1522: Cannot initialize a pointer with an integer constant other than zero. so its obvious that it will allow only zero.i want to know what happens inside the memory when we do this int *d=0 which is making it valid syntax. I am just asking this out of curiosity!

  • C++ Loop - Need variable to accumulate sum

    - by user1780064
    I'm writing a program to ask the user to enter a value between 5 and 21 (inclusive). If the number entered is not in this range, it prints, "Please try again". If the number is within the range, I need to take that number, and print the sum of all the numbers from 1 to the value entered. So if the user entered "7", the sum would be "28". I successfully wrote the first loop, in the case of the number not being within the range, but cannot figure out how to run the second loop- whether to use a while, do-while, or for loop. Please advise. #include <iostream> int main () { int uservalue; int count; int sum; //Prompt user for input do { cout << "Enter a value from 5 to 21: "; cin >> uservalue; if (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21) cout << "Value out of range. Try again..." << endl; } while (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21); cout << endl; //Loop to accumulate sum for (count = 1, count < uservalue, count++;) { sum = uservalue + count; if (uservalue <= 5 || uservalue <= 21) cout << the sum is " << sum << endl; } return 0; }

  • how to keep the value of a variable in a closure

    - by Florian Fida
i need to create multiple javascript functions which have a static id inside, so the function itself knows what data to process. Here is some code: (function(){ function log(s){ if(console && console.log) console.log(s); else alert(s); } var i = 10; while (i--){ window.setTimeout(function(){ // i need i to be 10, 9, 8... here not -1 log(i); },500); } })(); The problem ist that i allways gets updated by the loop, and i need to prevent this. Thanks in advance for any help, comments or tips!

  • php foreach as variable

    - by user167850
I'd like to use foreach to loop though an array list and add an element to each array. $tom = array('aa','bb','cc'); $sally = array('xx','yy','zz'); $myArrays = array('tom','sally'); foreach($myArrays as $arrayName) { ${$arrayName}[] = 'newElement'; } Is the use of ${$arrayName}[] the best way to do this? Is there another option rather than using curly braces? It currently works but I'm just wondering if there is a better alternative. Thanks

  • Passing Variable or Something to Iframe Parent PHP/JS/Html

    - by Belgin Fish
Alright, well this is the deal. I have a page, and then it loads an iframe. When anything inside the iframe is clicked, the main page (iframe parent) just reloads. How can I have it, so that if the iframe parent is reloaded from a click inside the iframe that a certain boolean or something is passed, displaying something different. Thanks

  • How to check for undefined or null variable in javascript

    - by Thomas Wanner
We are frequently using the following code pattern in our javascript code if(typeof(some_variable) != 'undefined' && some_variable != null) { // do something with some_variable } and I'm wondering whether there is a less verbose way of checking that has the same effect. According to some forums and literature saying simply if(some_variable) { // do something with some_variable } should have the same effect. Unfortunately, Firebug evaluates such a statement as error on runtime when some_variable is undefined, whereas the first one is just fine for him. Is this only an (unwanted) behavior of Firebug or is there really some difference between those two ways ?

  • PHP reads 1.10 value as 1.1 (0 at end of variable not honored)

    - by adbox
Hello, This is hard for me to word, but easier for me to demonstrate: I have a select option: <option <?php if($frequency[$key]=='1.10'){echo "selected";}?> value='1.10'>1 every 10 days</option> Really, $frequency[$key]=1.1; , but the above still shows up selected. I've never seen this before, and didnt know it could happen. Any ideas on how to prevent this? Working with php5. Thank you, Hudson

  • Joomla Session Variable as Plugin Parameter

    - by dosboy
I have a Joomla plugin which takes varying parameters. I need to retrieve one of these parameters from the current session. I've tried using Jumi and a little PHP snipped to retrieve the value and output it in the plugin's parameter list, but the Joomla plugin parser only handles the outter-most set of curly braces. ex. {fabrik view=table id=62 resetfilters=1 fab_tours_ro___tour_id=[tour_id]} [tour_id] I need to retrieve from the current session. I've tried {fabrik view=table id=62 resetfilters=1 fab_tours_ro___tour_id={jumi [scripts/get_tour_id.php]}} In that case the {jumi} tag never gets parsed. I could hack the {fabrik} plugin, but I'd prefer to do this without making any core or component changes, especially since I update Fabrik quite regularly via svn.

  • pass by reference but reference to data and not to variable

    - by dorelal
This is psesudo code. In what programming language this is possible ? def lab(input) input = ['90'] end x = ['80'] lab(x) puts x #=> value of x has changed from ['80'] to ['90] I have written this in ruby but in ruby I get the final x value of 80 because ruby is pass-by-reference. However what is passed is the reference to the data held by x and not pointer to x itself same is true in JavaScript. So I am wondering if there is any programming language where the following is true.

I'm trying following code, but I cant get the id value, it says "undefined". function box(){ var id=$(this).attr("id"); $("#votebox").slideDown("slow"); $("#flash").fadeIn("slow"); $.ajax({ type: "POST", //I want to post the "id" to the rating page. data: "id="+$(this).attr("id"), url: "rating.php", success: function(html){ $("#flash").fadeOut("slow"); $("#content").html(html); } }); } This function is called in following code. • PHP Variable Encryption

    - by NCoder
I have the following code that creates an encryption in PHP: $password = "helloworld"; $passwordupper = strtoupper($password); $passwordencode = mb_convert_encoding($passwordupper, 'UTF-16LE'); $passwordsha1 = hash("SHA1", $passwordencode); $passwordbase64 = base64_encode($passwordsha1); The instructions I have from the system I'm trying to connect to states: The encoding process for passwords is: first convert to uppercase, then Unicode it in little-endian UTF 16, then SHA1 it then base64 encode it. I think I'm doing something wrong in my code. Any ideas?! Thanks! NCoder

  • Breakpoint when variable takes on a certain value.

    - by Mick
I have something analogous to the following code... void function(int x) { // complicated operation on x blah blah } It all appears to be working fine except when x happens to be a particular value, say "273". But x being 273 is a rare event, 99.999% of the time it is some other value. Now I wish to observe the events when this function is called with x=273, so I would like to insert a breakpoint that gets hit only with x is that value. Perhaps I could do it like this: void function(int x) { if (x == 273) { // put breakpoint on this line. } // complicated operation on x blah blah } The problem is that presumably the compiler will optimise away this "if" statement because it doesn't do anything. So my question is what should I put within the "if" statement to to make sure it gets compiled in to something... or should I be tracing the x==273 case in some completely different way.

  • Excel - Variable number of leading zeros in variable length numbers?

    - by daltec
The format of our member numbers has changed several times over the years, such that 00008, 9538, 746, 0746, 00746, 100125, and various other permutations are valid, unique and need to be retained. Exporting from our database into the custom Excel template needed for a mass update strips the leading zeros, such that 00746 and 0746 are all truncated to 746. Inserting the apostrophe trick, or formatting as text, does not work in our case, since the data seems to be already altered by the time we open it in Excel. Formatting as zip won't work since we have valid numbers less than five digits in length that cannot have zeros added to them. And I am not having any luck with "custom" formatting as that seems to require either adding the same number of leading zeros to a number, or adding enough zeros to every number to make them all the same length. Any clues? I wish there was some way to set Excel to just take what it's given and leave it alone, but that does not seem to be the case! I would appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thank you all very much in advance!

  • undefined reference to static member variable

    - by Max
Hi. I have this class that has a static member. it is also a base class for several other classes in my program. Here's its header file: #ifndef YARL_OBJECT_HPP #define YARL_OBJECT_HPP namespace yarlObject { class YarlObject { // Member Variables private: static int nextID; // keeps track of the next ID number to be used int ID; // the identifier for a specific object // Member Functions public: YarlObject(): ID(++nextID) {} virtual ~YarlObject() {} int getID() const {return ID;} }; } #endif and here's its implementation file. #include "YarlObject.hpp" namespace yarlObject { int YarlObject::nextID = 0; } I'm using g++, and it returns three undefined reference to 'yarlObject::YarlObject::nextID linker errors. If I change the ++nextID phrase in the constructor to just nextID, then I only get one error, and if I change it to 1, then it links correctly. I imagine it's something simple, but what's going on?

  • sql select with php variable

    - by user1572526
    I'm trying to print out a html-table from db-table 'dimensions'. I only want dimensions from the selected pipetype which I get from a dropdownbox. For now I just put in "Steel" manually. Steel has pipe_id = 2 in db-table 'pipes'. I've run the first query in my db-tool and it returns 2 so there's nothing wrong there. The second query returns nothing. But when I manually set $wq = 2 (which I comment out below) it prints out the html-table perfectly. What am I doing wrong here? $wq="SELECT pipe_id FROM pipes WHERE title_en = 'Steel'"; //$wq = '2'; $sql="SELECT * FROM dimensions WHERE pipe_id = '".$wq."'";

  • getjson alternative method for variable

    - by Florian Stanek
I made a script which gets the data from a json file and parse it. It worked on a webserver. But now I have to find a solution to get it work on a local file (file:///C:/xampp/htdocs/script/index.html) instead on a server. It only works in FF: $.getJSON('data2.json', function(data) { $.each(data.selection_form.entities, function(i,name){ ...do something }); }); Any ideas? A local webserver is not a solution.

  • insert VBS variable within a single-quoted WMI query

    - by jiaoziren
Hi all, I am really frustrated by the snippet below: Dim objFSO, varSrc, varDest, varExt Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") varSrc = WScript.Arguments(0) varDest = WScript.Arguments(1) varExt = WScript.Arguments(2) If objFSO.FolderExists(varSrc) Then WScript.Echo varSrc strComputer = "." Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _ & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set colMonitoredEvents = objWMIService.ExecNotificationQuery _ ("SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WITHIN 10 WHERE " _ & "Targetinstance ISA 'CIM_DirectoryContainsFile' AND " _ & "TargetInstance.GroupComponent= " _ & "'Win32_Directory.Name=""c:\\\\kk ""'") Do Set objLatestEvent = colMonitoredEvents.NextEvent WScript.Echo objLatestEvent.TargetInstance.PartComponent Loop Else WScript.Echo "Bazinga" End If I tried to replace c:\\kk with varSrc however it seems impossible for WSH to recognize it in WMI query - not to mention it was within a single quote! I have tried chr(34) and it didn't work. Please help if possible. Much appreciated!
