Howdy all, I have a Joomla 1.5 installation running on Windows Server 2008, installed via the Web Platform Installer.
When uploading images with the media manager (native uploader, not the flash bulk uploader), the files arrive on the server correctly, but are given incorrect permissions. Specifically, the IIS_IUSRS group is not given access to the file. I might be incorrect about what group/user is SUPPOSED to get access to the files, but so far, I've found that unless I give IIS_IUSRS access to the uploaded files, they won't appear on the site or in the media manager (appear as broken images). Once I give IIS_IUSRS permission to the files, they work fine.
So far, all the research I've done has led me to linux specific fixes that involve either changing the umask on the server, or directly modifying the Joomla codebase to add an appropriate chmod command to the upload process, but I really don't want to modify Joomla directly. I have to believe there's a setting here somewhere that will do the job, either on the Joomla or Windows side of the equation.
Any thoughts?
Scott

Recently Google Chrome browser has been prompying me to install a plug-in everytime visit a web page. I always say Yes, install pulg-in, but that seems to have no effect. I tried following the "Trouble installing plug-ins" on the Chrome toolbar, but that seems to say Windows Media Player is the problem, but again, all my attempts at installing don't have any effect.
As far as I know, I have not chnage anything, but Skype did recently upgrade itself.
This is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and Chrome says it is up-to-date. I'm going to run a malware checker next, just in case -
Thanks!
Hello, on my windows 2003 server, all incoming connections are dropped.
I can see them getting in using Wireshark, but even a single ping from another computer fails.
All locally initiated connection work fine (i'm asking from the server).
This server is the DC/DHCP/DNS/File server, so computer clients are in the dark.
I've run varius antivirus and removal tools without any luck.
The Windows Firewall is disabled.
I'm wild-guessing at some virus/worm.
How can i check why these incoming ICMP/TCP SYN/etc are dropped ?
Anyone has any knowledge about such situations ?
Thanks.
I have the same Problem as described here: Disable spell checking in Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 8)
My system: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
What I've already done:
Deactivating the spelling options:
(There may be minor differences between the following screenshot and the actual 8.1 display. I copied it from here because I own a German Version and I therefore thought that an English one would be simpler to understand.)
I turned both options off and tried to restart IE. It's still "correcting" my texts.
Searching for 'spelling correction' addons
As said in the picture, this entry does not exist on my PC. (The following screenshot is taken from here)
Is there any way of disabling it? I prefer an "official" solution if one is available. Otherwise, I also take any registry involving Solutions.
In IE 9 you have the ability to click and drag an open browser tab to the Windows 7 taskbar and pin the shortcut to the taskbar.
This has the effect of creating a pseudo-application experience where the shortcut can have it's own custom jumplist and is not grouped with other IE 9 browser tabs on the taskbar.
Windows uses the "shortcut icon" or "favicon" defined in the HTML for the icon on the taskbar. If no shortcut icon is defined, then the generic IE shortcut icon is used.
If you have a bunch of these shortcuts pinned to the taskbar that don't have different icons it can be confusing to the user which is which.
Can you change the icon of a pinned IE 9 web application? And how do you do it?
I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business.
Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install.
Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files.
So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this?
I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.
When I boot into Windows Vista (Ultimate), I just get a black screen (with the mouse visible and working). If I run in safe mode, it seems to pause for a while when loading crcdisk.sys.
A lot of research says it could be a problem with the hard drive, but I dual boot Ubuntu and that works fine and I can still see and use the Windows partition absolutely fine from Ubuntu.
I tried using the "startup repair" option on the Vista install disk but it didn't detect any problems. I have run chkdsk several times, with this:
chkdsk C: /f /r
And also drive D (the recycle bin). The first two times it detected and fixed errors on the C drive but now it doesn't detect any errors.
Is there anything else that could be causing this problem?
I have multiple .rar files in multiple folders like this:
C:\Docs\Folder1\rarfile1-1.rar
C:\Docs\Folder1\rarfile1-2.rar
C:\Docs\Folder1\rarfile1-3.rar
C:\Docs\Folder2\rarfile2-1.rar
C:\Docs\Folder2\rarfile2-2.rar
C:\Docs\Folder2\rarfile2-3.rar
C:\Docs\Folder3\rarfile3-1.rar
C:\Docs\Folder3\rarfile3-2.rar
C:\Docs\Folder3\rarfile3-3.rar
I want to move all of the .rar files to the parent directory 'C:\Docs'. I have a lot more than 3 folders, so I was thinking of making a batch file or something. What would be the commands to do this?
Thanks
Hi guys,
Firstly, I'll admit that my networking knowledge is limited so as people request more information I'll update this question accordingly.
I am trying to create a NLB Cluster across 2 Windows Server 2008 Web Servers. Neither of the machines are members of a domain, and both have 2 NICs (one for processing external web traffic, and one for communicating internally).
I have installed NLB on both machines, and have created a cluster on Host A and added itself to it. However, when I try and add Host B (using the address from the external NIC) I get the following error : "The RPC server is unavailable on the specified computer".
On Host B I can see that the RPC service is running fine. I can also ping and RDP from Host A to Host B with no problems either. I have disabled the windows firewall on both machines but that had no effect
In XNA, when in windowed mode and resolution (set via PreferredBackBufferWidth/Height) is close to the resolution of the display, the view is distorted (zoomed in a bit)and the mouse coordinates are wrong.
Here is what it looks like when I draw a bunch of lines to the screen.
(Normal, Error on my ASUS Notebook G73Jh, Error on my EEE PC 1001P)
In the top left of the screen the mouse position is correct, but the further you get away the more out of sync it becomes. Here are some images of the mouse in different positions and the game drawing a circle underneath where it thinks the mouse is.
(Top Left, Bottom Right)
If you shrink the resolution by a couple pixels then it goes back to working like normal, my first though at a fix was to limit the max resolution to a little smaller than the display resolution. I figured out the maximum resolution that works in a couple different modes, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern that would allow me to determine it based off the display resolution.
Computer | Screen Resolution | Max Error-Free | Difference
ASUS Notebook G73Jh | 1920x1080 | 1924x1059 | +4x-21
ASUS Notebook G73Jh | 1024x600 | 1018x568 | -6x-32
EEE PC 1001P | 1024x600 | 1020x574 | -4x-26
Because the differences don't form a pattern I can't hack in a solution, the one even has +4 which baffles me.
Here is a project that demonstrates the problem, just set the resolution to the resolution of your display.
Any ideas on how I might fix this issue?
As an insteresting aside, I tried to use FRAPS to capture a video of the issue but fraps actually records without distortion or mouse offset.
I'm on windows 7 using Cygwin.
My script and text file are located in the same directory.
#!/bin/bash
while read name; do
echo "Name read from file - $name"
done < /home/Matt/servers.txt
I get this error and I don't know why because this is correct while loop syntax..?
u0146121@U0146121-TPD-A ~/Matt
$ ./script.sh
./script.sh: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token `done'
./script.sh: line 4: `done < /home/Matt/servers.txt'
Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? I think it's because I'm on windows and using Cygwin.
I have an old Red Hat Linux box that I use, amongst other things, to run Samba. My Vista and remaining Win XP PC can access the p/w-protected Samba shares.
I just set up a new Windows 7 64-bit Pro PC. Attempts to access the Samba shares by clicking on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine gave a Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. message when I gave the correct credentials.
So I followed the suggestions in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares (also checked here but found LmCompatibilityLevel was already 1).
This got me a little further. If click on the Linux box's icon in 'Network' from this machine I now see icons for the shared directories. But when I click on one of these, I get \\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission... etc.
I tried making the Win 7 password the same as my Samba p/w (the user name was already the same). Same result.
The Linux box does part of what I need for ecommerce - the in-house part, it's not accessible to the Internet. As my Linux Fu is weak, I have to avoid changes to the Linux box, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do to Win 7 to make it behave like XP and Vista when accessing this share.
Help please!?
Thanks
Thanks for replying @Randolph. I had set 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level' to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated based on the advice in Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares and had restarted the machine, but that didn't work for me.
I'll try playing with other Network security values.
I have now tried the following:
Network security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for
NTLM: changed from Not Defined to "Enabled".
Restarted machine
Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc.
Network security: Restrict NTLM: Add remote server exceptions for NTLM
Authentication (added LX)
Restarted machine
Still says "\LX\share is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc.
I can't see any other Network security settings that might affect this. Any other ideas please?
Thanks
Roy

So I have an Amazon EC2 box running Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory installed on it. I also have a Windows 7 virtual machine, which is set to use the Active Directory box as its DNS and WINS server. I'm trying to join the virtual machine to the domain, and I'm asked for authentication. I give authentication, wait a minute, and I get an error saying:
The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ad.chigs.me":
The network path was not found.
How can I fix this so that I'll be able to join the domain?
When I install ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 using wubi ,
first it extracts the files
and then asks to reboot to complete the installation.
But when I reboot the machine the installation hangs
and there is a message
"panic occurred, switching to text console "

We are using CVSNT on machine running Windows XP Pro.
After using it for more than 5 years, today we have an issue with CVS.
When we try to update a subdirectory in a repository, some of the files failed to update with message
"Permission denied"
and some files fail with the message
"ABC.java is no longer in the repository".
But when we login to the CVS machine itself and browse the subdirectory, we can see the files are there. We have checked the Windows folder permissions and they seem correct.
My group inherited several 2008 R2 servers with single 70GB RAID 1 boot/system disks.
No other disks in the servers.
We need larger boot / system disk.
Plan is :
to replace one disk with new 500 GB drive
wait for resync
replace other smaller disk with 2nd 500 GB drive
wait for resysnc
Now I should have 500 GB RAID 1 with original 70 GB partition
Then I would like to extend the 70 GB partition to 200 GB and add D: drive partition with remaining 300 GB
Can the above be done using Windows Disk Management and / or Windows DiskPart ?
Recently I was again visited by my old friends TCP Chimney and SynAttackProtect . (Yeah, sometimes I feel like I mostly blog about 5-year old problems, but many of us as DBA's have to work on older versions or older systems, and so repeat older problems :-). This has been written about before, but as I BinGoogled around I noticed you are more likely to find the documents if you search for the cause, and not the symptoms. Most people who face a problem, of course, know the symptoms but not the cause....(read more)
I'm running Windows Server 2008 with MySQL installed and every time I reboot the server the MySQL Service doesn't start right away. A look into the Windows Eventlog shows that the MySQL Service was hung at startup. Looking at the Services.msc console shows the service state at Starting...
Eventually, like 10 minutes, the MySQL Service actually finishes the startup process and the database becomes available for my Wordpress server...
I looked at the MySQL .err files and didn't find anything that would indicate a delay in the statup process...
Can anyone suggest a way to determine what is causing the delay, and more importantly, how to prevent the delay in the MySQL Startup?

I have a folder structure similar to the one shown below these paragraphs. How do I change security on every 'Photos' folder without clicking through each individually in Windows Explorer? There are about 50 top level folders (Bob, Jim, Eva, etc, etc) which have the same layout of folders inside.
I am keen for any suggestions, either scripting or GUI. I am on Windows Server 2003. Cheap/free method would be good, as the company is part of a registered charity. Ideally I would like to do this via DFS path. E.G. \\mycompany.local\Shared\Staff\Bob\
