  • Group Chat XMPP with Google App Engine

    - by David Shellabarger
Google App Engine has a great XMPP service built in. One of the few limitations it has is that it doesn't support receiving messages from a group chat. That's the one thing I want to do with it. :( Can I run a 3rd party XMPP/Jabber server on App Engine that supports group chat? If so, which one?

  • How do I detect if a display is in High Contrast mode?

    - by banjollity
I'm testing my company's established Swing application for accessibility issues. With high contrast mode enabled on my PC certain parts of this application are rendered properly (white-on-black) and some incorrectly (black-on-white). The bits that are correct are the native components (JButton, JLabel and whatnot) and third party components from the likes of JIDE. The incorrect bits are custom components and renderers developed in-house without consideration for high-contrast mode. Clearly it's possible to detect when high-contrast mode is enabled. How do I do this?

  • How to send a JSONObject to a REST service?

    - by Sebi
    Retrieving data from the REST Server works well, but if I want to post an object it doesn't work: public static void postJSONObject(int store_type, FavoriteItem favorite, String token, String objectName) { String url = ""; switch(store_type) { case STORE_PROJECT: url = URL_STORE_PROJECT_PART1 + token + URL_STORE_PROJECT_PART2; //data = favorite.getAsJSONObject(); break; } HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpPost postMethod = new HttpPost(url); try { HttpEntity entity = new StringEntity("{\"ID\":0,\"Name\":\"Mein Projekt10\"}"); postMethod.setEntity(entity); HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(postMethod); Log.i("JSONStore", "Post request, to URL: " + url); System.out.println("Status code: " + response.getStatusLine().getStatusCode()); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { I always get a 400 Error Code. Does anybody know whats wrong? I have working C# code, but I can't convert: System.Net.WebRequest wr = System.Net.HttpWebRequest.Create("http://localhost:51273/WSUser.svc/pak3omxtEuLrzHSUSbQP/project"); wr.Method = "POST"; string data = "{\"ID\":1,\"Name\":\"Mein Projekt\"}"; byte [] d = UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data); wr.ContentLength = d.Length; wr.ContentType = "application/json"; wr.GetRequestStream().Write(d, 0, d.Length); System.Net.WebResponse wresp = wr.GetResponse(); System.IO.StreamReader sr = new System.IO.StreamReader(wresp.GetResponseStream()); string line = sr.ReadToEnd();

  • Constructor in a Interface?

    - by Sebi
I know its not possible to define a constructor in a interface. But im wondering why, because i think i could be very useful. So you could be sure that some fields in a class are defined for every implementaiton of this interface. For example consider the following message class: public class MyMessage { public MyMessage(String receiver) { this.receiver = receiver; } private String receiver; public void send() { //some implementation for sending the mssage to the receiver } } If a define a Interface for this class so that i can have more classes which implement the message interface, i can only define the send method and not the constructor. So how can i assure that every implementation of this class really has an receiver setted? If i use a method like setReceiver(String receiver) i can't be sure that this method is really called. In the constructor i could assure it.

  • Generating JavaDoc style documentation

    - by Walter White
Hi all, I would like to generate a report similar to JavaDoc so that you can real easily click on a test, result, and source. I am running HtmlUnit tests so I will have the result (html), source (request, headers, parameters, etc.), stack trace all visible so a developer or qa can go back later to review this to see what went awry. So, in the left frame, the tests will be listed along with the group they were a part of (similar to packages in javadoc). In the right frame, the results will be presented along with the source and stack trace. How can I achieve this? The HtmlUnit tests are part of the project and not a stand-alone plugin if that matters. Thanks, Walter

  • Need to convert this for loop to a while loop

    - by Bragaadeesh
Hi guys, I solved a problem recently. But I have this one piece of code where I dont utilize the for loop initialization and condition check. It looks a bit odd that way for a for loop. I want to convert it into a while loop. Please help me do it. I tried many times, but somewhere something is missing. for(;;current =(current+1)%n){ if(eliminated[current%n]){ continue; }else{ inkiPinki++; if(inkiPinki == m){ eliminated[current%n] = true; printStatus(eliminated, people); remainingGuys--; break; } } } In the above code eliminiated[index] is a boolean.

  • How to get login password in servlets

    - by Dusk
I've successfully implemented form based authentication, and now I want to get the username and password to initialize session object in javamail from servlets. How can I do that? I can getlogin username by using method request.getRemoteUser(), but I don't know how to get the password. If I create any session object like: authentication = new PasswordAuthentication(user, password); Properties props = new Properties(); props.put("mail.host", "localhost"); props.put("mail.debug",true); props.put("mail.store.protocol", "pop3"); props.put("mail.transport.protocol", "smtp"); Session session = Session.getInstance(props, this); then how can I get inbox messages from mail server based upon particular username and password, if I don't pass any password from servlets to PasswordAuthentication object?

  • Uncompress a TIFF file without going through BufferedImage

    - by Gert
I am receiving large size CCITT Group 4 compressed TIFF files that need to be written elsewhere as uncompressed TIFF files. I am using the jai_imageio TIFF reader and writer to do that and it works well as long as the product _width * height_ of the image fits in an integer. Here is the code I am using: TIFFImageReaderSpi readerSpi= new TIFFImageReaderSpi(); ImageReader imageReader = readerSpi.createReaderInstance(); byte[] data = blobManager.getObjectForIdAndVersion(id, version); ImageInputStream imageInputStream = ImageIO.createImageInputStream(data); imageReader.setInput(imageInputStream); TIFFImageWriterSpi writerSpi = new TIFFImageWriterSpi(); ImageWriter imageWriter = writerSpi.createWriterInstance(); ImageWriteParam imageWriteParam = imageWriter.getDefaultWriteParam(); imageWriteParam.setCompressionMode(ImageWriteParam.MODE_DISABLED); //bufferFile is created in the constructor ImageOutputStream imageOutputStream = ImageIO.createImageOutputStream(bufferFile); imageWriter.setOutput(imageOutputStream); //Now read the bitmap BufferedImage bufferedImage = imageReader.read(0); IIOImage iIOImage = new IIOImage(bufferedImage, null, null); //and write it imageWriter.write(null, iIOImage, imageWriteParam); Unfortunately, the files that I receive are often very large and the BufferedImage cannot be created. I have been trying to find a way to stream from the ImageReader directly to the ImageWriter but I cannot find out how to do that. Anybody with a suggestion?

  • Twitter API, Twitter4J, Bounding Boxes, stream by location

    - by Aidan
Hey guys, I've started a streamer via Twitter4J and I'm consuming tweets with certain keywords currently. I'd like to only get tweets within a certain location e.g within a certain country. I understand bounding boxes will do this? But I don't know how I'd implement them within twitter4J. Does anyone know? Thanks!

  • Url shortening algorithm

    - by Bozho
Now, this is not strictly about URL shortening, but my purpose is such anyway, so let's view it like that. Of course the steps to URL shortening are: Take the full URL Generate a unique short string to be the key for the URL Store the URL and the key in a database (a key-value store would be a perfect match here) Now, about the 2nd point. Here's what I've come up with: ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); DataOutputStream dos = new DataOutputStream(baos); UUID uuid = UUID.randomUUID(); dos.writeLong(uuid.getMostSignificantBits()); String encoded = new String(Base64.encodeBase64(baos.toByteArray()), "ISO-8859-1"); String shortUrl = StringUtils.left(6); // returns the leftmost 6 characters // check if exists in database, repeat until it does not I wonder if this is good enough. Is it?

  • Changing content of HTMLDocument displayed in a JTextPane

    - by kayahr
I'm displaying some tables as HTML code (rendered by a Freemarker template) with a JTextPane. I also have some HTML links in this HTML output which can be used to interact with the values of the table (For example "Delete a row" and stuff like this). Currently I always recreate the whole HTML output on each change and replace the whole document in the JTextPane with the new one. This is getting really slow and the JTextPane always changes the scroll position when I do this. Is it possible to change only parts of the HTML code during runtime without replacing the whole document? In a real browser I would use the DOM and do something like document.getElementById("price").innerHTML = "$123.44". Is something like that possible with the HTMLDocument in a JTextPane?

  • NotFoundException in layout editor for Android?

    - by borg17of20
I'm trying to extend a RelativeLayout object and include an embedded SurfaceView object that uses a png file in my /res/drawable folder as its background but I keep getting an error in the XML Layout editor. See the following code: public class StopMotionRelativeLayout extends RelativeLayout { private Context myContext; private SurfaceView surfaceView1; private BitmapFactory.Options myBitmapOptions; private final android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams params = new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); public StopMotionRelativeLayout(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); myContext = context; this.setBackgroundColor(Color.GREEN); //init images surfaceView1 = new SurfaceView(myContext, attrs); surfaceView1.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); this.addView(surfaceView1, params); } @Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) { super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec); myBitmapOptions = new Options(); myBitmapOptions.outWidth = widthMeasureSpec; myBitmapOptions.outHeight = heightMeasureSpec; surfaceView1.setBackgroundDrawable(new BitmapDrawable(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(this.myContext.getResources(), R.drawable.golf1, myBitmapOptions))); } } I get the following error: NotFoundException: Could not find drawable resource matching value 0x7F020002 (resolved name: golf1) in current configuration. I have seen this type of error may times now and it always happens when I try to load something from a resource file via code and not XML. Curiously, this error does not stop me from compiling the app, and the app runs without error in the emulator. I'd like to get back the use of my layout editor though... Please help. UPDATE: Here is the layout XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> </com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout>

  • Throw a long list of exceptions vs throw an Exception vs throw custom exception?

    - by athena
I have an application which uses two methods of an API. Both these methods throw more than five exceptions each. So, if I just add a throws declaration then it becomes a list of more than ten. (My method cannot handle any of the ten exceptions) I have read that throwing a long list of exceptions is a bad practice. Also throwing (the umbrella) Exception is a bad practice. So, what should I do? Add a try catch block, and log and exit in the catch block? (Current approach) Create a custom exception class, wrap every exception and throw the custom exception? Add a throws declaration for all exceptions? Throw Exception?

  • thoughs on using Alpha Five v10 with Codeless AJAX for building an AJAX database app in a short amou

    - by william Hunter
I need to build an AJAX application against our MS SQL Server database for my company. the app has to have user permissions and reporting and is pretty complex. I am really under the gun in terms of time. The company that I work for needs the app for an important project launch. A colleague/friend of mine in a different company recommended that I look at a product from Alpha Software called Alpha Five v10 with Codeless AJAX. He has told me that he has used it extensively and that it saves him a "serious boat load of time" and he says that he has not run into limitations because you can also write your own JavaScript or you wire in JQERY. Before I commit to Alpha Five v10, I would like to get any other opinions? Thanks. Norman Stern. Chicago

  • Delete or comment out non-working JUnit tests?

    - by Chris Knight
I'm currently building a CI build script for a legacy application. There are sporadic JUnit tests available and I will be integrating a JUnit execution of all tests into the CI build. However, I'm wondering what to do with the 100'ish failures I'm encountering in the non-maintained JUnit tests. Do I: 1) Comment them out as they appear to have reasonable, if unmaintained, business logic in them in the hopes that someone eventually uncomments them and fixes them 2) Delete them as its unlikely that anyone will fix them and the commented out code will only be ignored or be clutter for evermore 3) Track down those who have left this mess in my hands and whack them over the heads with the printouts of the code (which due to long-method smell will be sufficently suited to the task) while preaching the benefits of a well maintained and unit tested code base

  • Why does multiplying a double by -1 not give the negative of the current answer

    - by Ankur
    I am trying to multiply a double value by -1 to get the negative value. It continues to give me a positive value double man = Double.parseDouble(mantissa); double exp; if(sign.equals("plus")){ exp = Double.parseDouble(exponent); } else { exp = Double.parseDouble(exponent); exp = exp*-1; } System.out.println(man+" - "+sign+" - "+exp); The printed result is 13.93 - minus - 2.0 which is correct except that 2.0 should be -2.0

  • JAXB, marshalling sub-class that has the same rootNode name as the superclass

    - by SCdF
Let's say I have this: public class Foo { private String value; // <snip> getters and setters, constructors etc } And I also have this: public class Bar extends Foo { private String anotherValue; // <snip> getters and setters, constructors etc } I want to be able to marshall this to a Bar object: <foo> <value>smang</value> <anotherValue>wratz</anotherValue> </foo> I'm not in a position to check right now, but if I change the @XmlRootNode name of Bar to 'foo' will that work? Do I have to do anything more clever than that?

  • MIgrating to Oracle

We are using a JEE application and we are right now using Informix DB.Our code hits the DB with queries like "select first 10 * from test" Now as far as I know Oracle does not support 'first 10 *' kind of statements. We have more than 1000 queries like this.Should we manually change this or can have some manual customization?
