• Windows 7 : access denied to ONE server from ONE computer

  We have a domain served by some Windows 2003 servers. We have several Windows 7 Pro clients. ONE client computer can't acces ONE member Windows 2003 server. The other computers can acces every servers. And the same computer can access other servers. With explorer, the message says the account is no activated. With the command line, the message says the account is locked. With commande line : net use X: \\server\share --> several seconds delay, then error (says the account is locked) net use X: \\server\share /USER:current_username --> okay net use X: \\server\share /USER:domain_name\current_username --> okay From the same computer, the user can access other servers. From another computer, the same user can access any server, including the one denied from the original computer. Aleady done : unjoin then join the cilent from the domain. check the logs on the server : nothing about the failed attempts (?!) Is their any user mapping I'm not aware of ?

• How can I recover my data from a damaged hard drive?

  a few days ago when I was working on windows my laptop was beaten on the side where the hard drive is located. As a result, it was damaged and I couldn't access the windows partition. I had to boot the linux one, which is working without any trouble. I have 2 partition formatted with ntfs, the one with windows on it, and the other one intended to store data. I mounted the windows partition from ubuntu and I could see all my files. But when I tried to mount the data partition it was impossible. It threw me an error, it couldn't recognize ntfs partition. I try to copy the damaged disk into an external hard drive using the command: dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb conv=noerror,sync The progress stopped at 60%. I was still unable to mount the data partition. Now I'm trying to backup my files using an utility called Photorec. The problem is that it is recovering my files in a disorderly way, it is all mixed up and I need my original directory structure, it will become an endless task to organize the files as they were before. Is there any way I can get my partition back?

• Apache forwarding without redirecting (application won't follow redirects)

  Recently we had to move /task to /public/task, and I'd like to configure Apache to redirect accordingly. However, using mod_rewrite, though it works in the browser, seems to break applications making api calls to the above location. What happens is the application returns a page with the message saying the page was moved, but the app doesn't follow the redirect. So, is there a way to simply forward any traffic to /task to /public/task without 'redirecting', i.e, returning a redirect status code? EDIT: Here's a little more information. I've found a simple test to clarify what I'm trying to fix. Here is the URL path that needs forwarding: https://mydomain.com/task Needs to go to: https://mydomain.com/public/task If I use curl against the original domain, it just returns a redirect page notice. If I add the -L flag, which tells curl to follow redirects, it then follows the redirect successfully. I assume something very similar is happening in the application (which I don't have access to) that makes calls to the /task URL path. Since I cannot modify the application to make it follow redirects properly, I'm looking for a solution I can implement in Apache.

• How can I tell System Restore in WIndows 7 recovery console to use my recovered backup drive's restore point data?

  My Windows 7 desktop PC failed to boot. It would get to a grayish screen with a mouse and would only respond to the power button. After much examination I found that the problem was not a failed drive as running CHKDSK from the Recovery Console on my main drives passed without any errors. I had been installing various Java version in the days before the failure so I decided to use a restore point to roll backwards. I have an external SATA drive controller with two 2 TB drives mirrored using the Windows mirroring function. My system has been backing up to this drive regularly. The problem is I accidently broke the mirror when testing to see if this drive system might have been causing my boot issue. Connecting it to another machine showed two dynamic drives that were invalid. In the end I reformatted one as an NTFS basic disc and used recovery software on the other to copy all of the files to the reformatted drive. I had to copy the restore points into the new drive's System Volume Information folder by granting rights to that user. I moved the drive back to the original machine and rebooted. I can see my new drive, it even uses the same drive letter as it did in normal mode. Running System Restore it lists a new Automatic Restore point created while sitting at the RC along with all of my backups. Selecting the backup I want (or any other) I get a dialog. The backup drive could not be found. System Restore is looking for restore points on your backup. Make sure the backup drive is on and connected to this computer and then click OK. What do I need to do to allow system restore to see the restore points?

• Web Server slows down (ASP.NET)

  below is a question I posted on stackoverflow . as suggested by Martin Clarke I also post it here. We have a really strange problem. One of the servers in the server farm becomes really slow. We see a number of timeouts in the logs and overall response time is not where it should be (and is on other servers in the farm). What is also strange is that it is not just the web app - Just logging into the server takes up to 1.5 min to show you the desktop. Once you are in, the system is as responsive as ever - unless you try to launch something, i.e. notepad - it takes another minute to launch and after launch it works fine. I checked a number of things - memory utilization is reasonable, CPU is below 15%, windows handles, event logs do not show anything. Recycling the aps.net process does not fix it - it still takes over a minute to log in. Rebooting the server helped, but now it started to slow down again. After a closer look we found out that Windows Temp directory is full of temp files - over 65k files. This is certainly something to take care of. But my question is could it be the root cause of the sluggishness, or there is still something else lurking in the shadows? Edit After more digging I am zeroing in on the issue related to the size of temp directories. This article: (see the original post this thing will not let me include a second link) describes something very similar. It still does not answer the question why the server is still slow even there is no activity.

• Why is my HP TouchSmart tx2 1025dx shutting down?

  I'm having an issue with my HP tx2 1025dx laptop. Sometimes it will spontaneously shut itself off. First, the screen will go out. Next, the computer itself will shut down. This usually occurs when I am doing something that requires a lot of resources, but lately can happen when I am doing something as simple as using an Office app. I think it may be heat related, if I try to boot the laptop after it shuts itself down, it will shut itself down again before startup is complete. If I let it cool down for a while and then come back to it, the computer will boot properly. These shutdowns are always accompanied by high temperatures on the bottom right side, as well as the right side of the keyboard. I am using a laptop cooler with two fans, and it is not making a bit of difference. This is the second TouchSmart we have owned, the first one had the same issues, we sent it in to HP after it finally refused to reboot. They “fixed” it, and it worked fine for about a month before doing the exact same thing. Unfortunately we had bought the second one before the issues began with the original, if I had known this would be a problem, I would not have purchased another TouchSmart. This particular laptop we have had for more than a year and it didn’t start these issues until a couple of months ago. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

• How can I document and automate a system's configuration?

  Having a system's configuration represented by its current state is risky, inefficient, and opaque. At some point you may be left with an unsupported system and no upgrade path. Then configuring a new system compatible with the old is a process or trial and error. Furthermore, if at some point the system is damaged the only option is to go back to the most recent full backup, and try to remember what changes followed from that point. Also, the only way to create a system compatible with the original is through a complete dump/restore. Finally, in such a setup there's no way to know how you solved a particular problem; the only thing you can do is to look at the corresponding configuration files and try to guess what you changed to achieve the desired effect. Currently for each system I maintain, I keep a log file where I record all system administration activity, starting from the installation: installation options, added packages, changes in configuration files, updates, problem fixes etc. In theory this allows me to (manually) replay all changes to arrive at the current state, or to unroll an erroneous change by executing the reverse commands. However, this process is also inefficient, error-prone, and relies on human judgment. Another thing I've tried is to put /etc configuration files under version control with git. This helps me document the changes automatically and also apply them on a clean setup. But it's not without problems: git has to run under sudo, passwords and private keys may be stored in the repository, installed packages can't be meaningfully tracked, and git will have a fit if I try to extend this approach to all the system's directories. I've also thought about performing all changes through shell scripts or makefiles, but I think this process will require a lot of effort and will be fragile. Are there some better methods or tools that I'm missing?

• Need some help figuring out BB4Win or any of its varieties: does it replace windows explorer?

  I don't really care too much about replacing original Windows the desktop, taskbar and system tray. I really dislike the new Win7/Vista Windows Explorer: Screenshot here (just to make sure there's no confusion) So, what I'm trying to figure out is whether BB4Win or its plugins have a replacement for it. The bb4win website pretty much doesn't make sense to me. I'm using Win7 64 bit. Also, off-topic ... I was looking at a related question on this site here: Good Windows shell replacement Why can't I add comments? I wanted to ask the same question I'm asking now as a comment under the answer given by Molly7244, the person who answered with suggesting BB4Win. But there seems to be no way to add new comments anywhere! Why? Am I missing something? I don't quite understand the weird way this site is set up... I'm used to the more typical forum format. Sorry. • Computer makes odd noise. Replace almost every component. Computer still makes odd noise.

  My PC was getting pretty old, 5 years or so, and over the course of it's life I replaced the graphics card, HDD and a couple of sticks of RAM; but the PSU, processor, motherboard, fans etc. were all original. A few weeks ago, I started hearing an odd noise. I struggle to describe it, it sounded sortof like the 'click of death' you hear when a HDD may fail, but not quite... (And it was far less irregular) Also, I was sure I heard it once or twice a minute or two after I shut down the PC. This was going on very irregularly for a couple weeks. Some days I would hear no noise at all, others I would hear it often, maybe once every 30 seconds or so. I could find no common denominator - i.e. it did not happen more during gaming or any other intensive use. Anyway, I need my PC to sit some classes over the summer, so I put it in for them to run a HDD stress test and to replace a bunch of the components. I ended up replacing almost everything - the only elements I still have are my blu-ray drive and graphics card. They said when they started to run the HDD stress test it failed instantly (They started the test and it immediately said 'Test Complete' so they assumed it was at fault, and put a new HDD in since I was still under warranty with them.) I took it home a few hours ago, and I am still hearing the noise!!! Do you guys have any theories? I'm getting a little worried, I can't afford for my PC to suddenly fail during the next month - I have a lot of coursework to do. Any thoughts? Is it possible it could be the fan on the graphics card? I'm confused because it's so irregular. Any help would be much appreciated.

• How can I change the file name of the Program Files (x86) folder?

  Let me stop you before the "you shouldn't do that" and "you will corrupt your file paths". I know what I'm doing, but I'll give you the story to convince you. Basically, my hard drive is failing to the point where programs installed on it are not responding consistently. So, in preparation for my replacement, I'm moving as many files as possible to my secondary because the new drive will be smaller (it's an emergency I can't buy a fancy expensive new drive) and so I can actually use my computer until the new drive comes in. The basic idea behind what I'm doing is I've copied the contents of the Program Files x86 folder to another spot on my other drive, and I want to replace the original folder in the C drive with a symbolic link that points to the other drive, so the programs can run from that drive and be fine but it will save space on my C drive and simplify the moving process when the new one comes in. To do that, I need to rename the program files folder, make the symbolic link, hopefully delete the program files folder, then restart my computer so all the programs are running properly and I can confirm it works. Now that I've told you why, can anyone help me out?

  Let me start by saying that I am not a server guy - I am a developer. But I develop and manage an ASP.NET application that uses Windows authentication. I've run into the problem I am about to describe before, and I would just like to understand how to remedy it since I am the one who always gets the original support request. A user, let's call her JaneDoe, has just gotten married and her login has been changed to JaneJones. We have an application that uses Windows authentication to store the user's login name to a table and then redirects the user to another non-Windows authenticated site with a GUID which points to the table entry we just made. When the user reaches the second site, we read in the login name from the database using the GUID that was passed. Then, we look up the login name in another database where we track application permissions. The problem is that the user is logging into her workstation as JaneJones, but the Windows authenticated site is still receiving a login name of JaneDoe. Is this a domain controller issue? Is it a workstation issue? What's the best way to resolve this?

• What software will tell me if I've already downloaded a video? [closed]

  (I use Linux KNOPPIX (distro 7.0.2, ver 3.3.7) on hard drive.) I download videos of TV programs from the 60s and 70s (mainly from youtube). I copy the youtube URL then paste it into www.keepvid.com to download it (usually .mp4 format). Having now got dozens of such video files (and growing) on my hard drive, I'd like to organise them. WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS: Say I find a new vid (of a TV prog) on youtube (or another site), and I'm about to download it. It's possible that I've WATCHED IT BEFORE but have forgotten. So is there software out there that I can run which will do the following: Check for me if I've ALREADY WATCHED the vid that I'm about to download. At the moment, once I've watched a vid on my hard drive, I move the file to another directory called "Watched". But this of course doesn't alert me in the immediate way that I want. . It would crudely suffice, if the software told me AFTER I've downloaded the vid, if I've ALREADY WATCHED it (ie if it's already in my "Watched" directory, or perhaps in a "watched" list). I sometimes alter the filename of the original video file on hard drive, so this might spoil a comparison. If the software alerts me to the fact that I've already watched the vid (preferably BEFORE I download it), then this will allow me to confidently download only new vids that I haven't watched before, and save me duplicating my effort. I'd be most grateful if anyone can suggest such a piece of software, or an alternative solution. I'll be honest, I avoid software that infringes your privacy and control - you know, software that automatically does things behind your back, like upgrades itself over the internet, puts things on your hard drive that you didn't ask for, or sends information from your hard drive to websites.

• How to Find Out Who Made an ISO Disk?

  If a file is saved using Microsoft word or some other type of program, you can right click on the file to find the properties, which will indicate the computer that created the file. Is there anyway to find out who created an ISO disk image on a CD or DVD? I assume that there should be no meta data on the disk because an ISO disk image should be an exact duplicate of the original. Is my assumption correct? To illustrate with an example, let's say you found a CD at a cafe or something. You decide to look at the CD with your computer. You find out that it is an "Ubuntu live CD" that was obviously created from an ISO file. Is there any way to find out who burned the CD? Or, on the flip side, let's say you were the one that burned the "Ubuntu live CD" and you lost it. Would somebody be able to know that it was you who made the CD? Can they get any info about the maker?

I've just installed W8 and haven't made any changes to my new ecosystem and, what happened was that, as I was managing my new drivers, some mess* occurred, I confess, and now what I have left is every single backup tool I made use of W7, like system images, restore dvds, backup up to date monthly and so on, and would like to keep in touch with W8. I'm one of those with problems managing the amd switchable gpu drivers. Now I want to stay with W8 (download version - didn't clean install) but with my old personal files. I don't care to programs updates. I got everything original on dvds, of my interest. Yesterday I tried refreshing W8 once but didn't work. Maybe trying again tonight. What would you guys do in my place, please? *the mess I am talking about is to have disabled my intel (the only driver left) gpu in device manager tool in W8. I got black screen on system boot.   I have problem I'm hoping someone could help me with. I have five different text values in 5 cells. I am trying to combine these values into one cell with a comma in between each. However the trick is that if there is no value in (H6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell (F6) and (G6). If there is a value in (H6) then place the word "and" between (G6) and (H6). In the same statement I must also include If there is not value in (G6) then it must place the word "and" between the cell E6 and F6. Please see image attached. I am trying to get the highlighted statements into one cell. So multiple IF statements into one cell. • Picasa duplicates everything into a `$My Pictures` folder.

  My parents have a Windows XP laptop running Picasa, Dutch version of both. It's configured to put imported photos in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Mijn documenten\Mijn afbeeldingen, which is Windows XP's default My Pictures folder localized to Dutch. A while back I noticed disk space was going much faster than it should be. Turns out there was a Documents and Settings\user\Mijn documenten\$My Pictures pretty much the same size as the original one. This was well over a year ago. I figured it to be an internationalization bug, the $My Pictures thing looks like a placeholder that didn't get resolved. I figured it'd get fixed soon. It didn't. I threw out Picasa, tediously cleaned up the mess it left behind and replaced it by Windows Live Photo Gallery. My parents found WLPG to be unworkable and asked to get Picasa back. I reinstalled it, by now it's at 3.8.0 (build 117.29, 0). Wouldn't you have it, the mystery $My Pictures folder is back, 25GB of disk space has evaporated and it's the same mess it used to be. What's going on here? How do I stop it doing this?

• Compare images after canny edge detection in OpenCV (C++)

  Hi all, I am working on an OpenCV project and I need to compare some images after canny has been applied to both of them. Before the canny was applied I had the gray scale images populating a histogram and then I compared the histograms, but when canny is added to the images the histogram does not populate. I have read that a canny image can populate a histogram, but have not found a way to make it happen. I do not necessairly need to keep using the histograms, I just want to know the best way to compare two canny images. SSCCE below for you to chew on. What I cannot figure out is how to map several distinct but similarly natured input elements to the my ActionForm. Let me elaborate. The application starts up fine, the database tables are created by hibernate and data is imported by my database importer, so Seam is alive, running and well. • android Emulator always stop at "waiting for Home..."

  hi,there, I freshed install Eclipse, jdk, android sdk 1.5 in winxp. but when I run the "hello world" app, the emulator always stop at "andorid" loading message. In eclipse console, it shows "waiting for HOME..." and in DDMS LogCat, it shows following msg: there are some error and warning. So, what's wrong with my case? • Converting a WPFToolkit DataGrid from 1D list to 2D matrix

  Hello - I am wondering if anyone has attempted the following or has an idea as to how to do it. I have a WPFToolkit DataGrid which is bound to an ObservableCollection of items. As such, the DataGrid is shown with as many rows in the ObservableCollection, and as many columns as I have defined in for the DataGrid. That all is good. What I now need is to provide another view of the same data, only, instead, the DataGrid is shown with as many cells in the ObservableCollection. So let's say, my ObservableCollection has 100 items in it. The original scenario showed the DataGrid with 100 rows and 1 column. In the modified scenario, I need to show it with 10 rows and 10 columns, where each cell shows the value that was in the original representation. In other words, I need to transform my 1D ObservableCollection to a 2D ObservableCollection and display it in the DataGrid. I know how to do that programmatically in the code behind, but can it be done in XAML? Let me simplify the problem a little, in case anybody can have a crack at this. The XAML below does the following: * Defines an XmlDataProvider just for dummy data * Creates a DataGrid with 10 columns o each column is a DataGridTemplateColumn using the same CellTemplate * The CellTemplate is a simple TextBlock bound to an XML element If you run the XAML below, you will find that the DataGrid ends up with 5 rows, one for each book, and 10 columns that have identical content (all showing the book titles). However, what I am trying to accomplish, albeit with a different data set, is that in this case, I would end up with one row, with each book title appearing in a single cell in row 1, occupying cells 0-4, and nothing in cells 5-9. Then, if I added more data and had 12 books in my XML data source, I would get row 1 completely filled (cells covering the first 10 titles) and row 2 would get the first 2 cells filled. Can my scenario be accomplished primarily in XAML, or should I resign myself to working in the code behind? Any guidance would greatly be appreciated. • Why are pieces of my HTML showing up on the page and breaking it? Is it PHP related?

  I've been building a site in PHP, HTML, CSS, and using a healthy dose of jQuery javascript. The site looks absolutely fine on my Mac browsers, but for some reason, when my client uses PC Safari, she's seeing strange bits of my HTML show up on the page. Here are some (small) screenshot examples: Figure 1: This one is just a closing </li> tag that should've been on the Media li element. Not much harm done, but strange. Figure 2: Here this was part of <div class='submenu'> and since the div tag didn't render properly, the entire contents of that div don't get styled correctly by CSS. Figure 3: This last example shows what should have been <a class='top current' href=... but for some reason half of the HTML tag stops being rendered and just gets printed out. So the rest of that list menu is completely broken. Here's the code from the header.php file itself.
