• Are weekly reports necessary?

  At the times that we didn't use Scrum, we had weekly status meeting and technical discussion; And now after we adopt Scrum, we have daily stand up meeting. But for both cases, weekly reports are always a necessity, although I don't see much value of doing this in our development team. What do you think of weekly report? what benefit that you got from it if your like it?

• Reopening serial port fails if not closed properly with CloseHandle

  I am working with USB device on Windows that is seen as a virtual serial port. I can communicate with the device using CreateFile and ReadFile functions, but in some cases my application does not call CloseHandle (when my application in development crashes). After that all calls to CreateFile fail (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED), and the only solution is to log in to my computer again. Is there any way to force closing the open handle (or reopening) programmatically?

  Why do browser vendors make their own css properties, even they know these will not pass the w3c validation? What is the purpose?   I installed Eclipse on my Ubuntu machine and then the Ruby Development Tools (RDT), but it would crash when I try to alter certain features, like having line numbers, how far back to have history, and the code coloring scheme didn't work fully. I decided to try to uninstall Eclipse by doing sudo aptitude remove Eclipse and then sudo aptitude install eclipse but instead it installed it back with the broken Ruby plugin. I also tried aptitude purge but that didn't help either. How can I freshly reinstall Eclipse and get a properly working Ruby plugin?

• Rails: Why does find_by not work on my ActiveRecord model?

  I have a simple model named Foo. Foo has two columns, bar and foobar. Doing a simple Foo.find_by_bar("a") is returning nil. There is a record in the table where bar contains a. Also, what's even more troubling, is I don't see the query even happening in the development log. A simple Foo.find(1) works though.

• Has anyone had trouble with Intellisense in Visual Studio when using UltraVNC?

  Hi, a colleague and I are trying pair programming for the first time. We both remote into a development machine; I'm using RemoteDesktop and my colleague is using UltraVNC. This works great except that he can't see the Intellisense dropdown in Visual Studio 2008. According to online posts, this may be something to do with DirectDraw, but I don't see much by way of a workaround. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Andrew
