• Problem getting ar_mailer/ar_sendmail working on new server

  Hey all. I've got a new app up and running on a new ubuntu server. It's working fine generally but i can't get ar_sendmail working. I'm following the instructions on this page: http://www.ameravant.com/posts/sending-tons-of-emails-in-ruby-on-rails-with-ar_mailer The setup is all done, ie i can "deliver mails" which just saves records in my Email table. Now i want to get the ar_sendmail daemon running to actually send them. (so i'm at 'Running ar_sendmail in daemon mode' in that web page). First thing: ar_sendmail --mailq >>ar_sendmail: command not found Ok...so, where is ar_sendmail? I have a look and there's an ar_sendmail file in the bin folder of the ar_mailer plugin, so i add the location of that to my path. I don't know if this was the right thing to do or not. Ok, so try again. ar_sendmail --mailq /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3:in `require': no such file to load -- action_mailer/ar_sendmail (LoadError) from /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3 hmm. Here's the offending file, there's not much there. #!/usr/bin/env ruby require 'action_mailer/ar_sendmail' ActionMailer::ARSendmail.run ok...so it literally is just trying to require this and can't find it. The file, action_mailer/ar_sendmail.rb is in the ar_mailer plugin, in it's lib folder. So, given that it's being called from inside the plugin, it should be able to see this right? I've got a feeling that i'm way off the track here and have missed something simple. Can anyone set me straight? I'm using rails 2.3.4 in case that's relevant. EDIT - i just realised something kind of dumb: when i call ar_sendmail from the command line like this, i'm just loading that one file, which doesn't know where it's supposed to look for the rest of the stuff, i think. Which really makes me think that i'm not trying to run the right thing. Is the ar_sendmail daemon a seperate program altogether, that i would get with apt_get or something? EDIT2 - i made some progress by installing the ar_mailer gem (which the guide said i shouldn't do) and that does seem to run. It's sending some mail request somewhere and clearing the Email table of pending emails. Running ar_sendmail in -ov (oneshot verbal) mode i see it report this for example: sent email 00000000019 from [email protected] to [email protected]: # So, it actually looks like it's working now and i just need to set up the ACTUAL THING WHICH SENDS EMAILS. sigh. still grateful for any advice. thanks, max

• Problem getting correct parameters for C# P/Invoke call to C++ dll

  Trying to Interop a functionality from the Outside In API from Oracle. Have the following function: SCCERR EXOpenExport {VTHDOC hDoc, VTDWORD dwOutputId, VTDWORD dwSpecType, VTLPVOID pSpec, VTDWORD dwFlags, VTSYSPARAM dwReserved, VTLPVOID pCallbackFunc, VTSYSPARAM dwCallbackData, VTLPHEXPORT phExport); From the header files I reduced the parameters to: typedef VTSYSPARAM VTHDOC, VTLPHDOC * typedef DWORD_PTR VTSYSPARAM typedef unsigned long DWORD_PTR typedef unsigned long VTDWORD typedef VTVOID* VTLPVOID #define VTVOID void typedef VTHDOC VTHEXPORT, *VTLPEXPORT These are for 32 bit windows Going through the header files, the example programs, and the documentation I found: 1. That pSpec could be a pointer to a buffer or NULL, so I set it to a IntPtr.Zero (documentation). 2. That dwFlags and dwReserved according to the documentation "Must be set by the developer to 0". 3. That pCallbackFunc can be set to NULL if I don't want to handle callbacks. 4. That the last two are based on structs that I wrote C# wrappers for using the [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)]. Then instatiated an instance and generated the parameters by first creating a IntPtr with Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(instance)), then getting the address value which is passed as a uint for dwCallbackData and a IntPtr for phExport. The final parameter list is as follows: 1. phDoc as a IntPtr which was loaded with an address by the DAOpenDocument function called before. 2. dwOutputId as uint set to 1535 which represents FI_JPEGFIF 3. dwSpecType as int set to 2 which represents IOTYPE_ANSIPATH 4. pSpec as an IntPtr.Zero where the output will be written 5. dwFlags as uint set to 0 as directed 6. dwReserved as uint set to 0 as directed 7. pCallbackFunc as IntPtr set to NULL as I will handle results 8. dwCallBackDate as uint the address of a buffer for a struct 9. phExport as IntPtr to another struct buffer still get an undefined error from the API. Meaning that the call returns a 961 which is not defined in any of the header files. In the past I have gotten this when my choice of parameter types are incorrect. I started out using Interop Assistant which was helpful in learning how many of the parameter types get translated. It is however limited by how well I am able to glean the correct native type from the header files. For example the hDoc parameter used in the preceding function was defined as a non-filesytem handle, so attempted to use Marshal to create a handle, then used an IntPtr, and finally it turned out to be an int (actually it was &phDoc used here). So is there a more scientific way of doing this, other than trial and error? Jim

• Getting a screenshot of a page using C# - Need help with code

  I'm writing a specialised crawler and parser for internal use and I require the ability to take a screenshot of a web page in order to check what colours are being used throughout. The program will take in around ten web addresses and will save them as a bitmap image, from there I plan to use LockBits in order to create a list of the five most used colours within the image. To my knowledge it's the easiest way to get the colours used within a web page but if there is an easier way to do it please chime in with your suggestions. Anyway, I was going to use this program until I saw the price tag. I'm also fairly new to C#, having only used it for a few months. Can anyone provide me with a solution to my problem of taking a screenshot of a web page in order to extract the colour scheme? EDIT: Sorry for not getting back to this sooner, but I've been busy with some other things. Anyway, the code seems to work well, but the problem I am having right now is that I am running it within a form, and naturally with Application.Run() being called I cannot run two instances of the same form at once. It recommended Form.showDialog() but that broke everything. • Query an XmlDocument without getting a 'Namespace prefix is not defined' problem

  I've got an Xml document that both defines and references some namespaces. I load it into an XmlDocument object and to the best of my knowledge I create a XmlNamespaceManager object with which to query Xpath against. Problem is I'm getting XPath exceptions that the namespace "my" is not defined. How do I get the namespace manager to see that the namespaces I am referencing are already defined. Or rather how do I get the namespace definitions from the document to the namespace manager. Furthermore tt strikes me as strange that you have to provide a namespace manager to the document which you create from the documents nametable in the first place. Even if you need to hardcode manual namespaces why can't you add them directly to the document. Why do you always have to pass this namespace manager with every single query? What can't XmlDocument just know? • HttpSendRequest not getting latest file from server

  I am having an issue with my HTTP requests in my app, such that if the remote file is the same size as the local file (even though its modified time is different, as its contents have been changed), attempts to download it return quickly and the newer file is not downloaded. In short, the process I am following is: Setting up an HTTP connection with the INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE flag and calling HttpSendRequest(); then checking the HTTP status code and finding it to be "200". If the remote file is updated, but remains the same size as the local copy: The local file is unchanged after running the app. If I call HttpQueryInfo() with HTTP_QUERY_LAST_MODIFIED after sending the request, it gives me the actual last modified time of the server's file, which I can see is different from the local file I am trying to have it overwrite. If the remote file is updated, and the file size becomes different from the local copy: It is downloaded and overwrites the local copy as expected. • iPhone OS: KVO: Why is my Observer only getting notified at applicationDidfinishLaunching

  I am basically trying to implement an achievement tracking setup in my app. I have a managedObjectModel class called StatTracker to keep track of all sorts of stats and I want my Achievement tracking class to be notified when those stats change so I can check them against a value and see if the user has earned an achievement. I've tried to impliment KVO and I think I'm pretty close to making it happen but the problem I'm running into is this: So in the appDelegate i have an Ivar for my Achievement tracker class, I attach it as an observer to a property value of my statTracker core data entity in the applicationDidFinishLaunching method. I know its making the connection because I've been able to trigger a UIAlert in my AchievementTracker instance, and I've put several log statements that should be triggered whenever the value on the StatTracker's property changes. the log statement appears only once at the application launch. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in the whole object lifecycle scheme of things, I just don't understand why the observer stops getting notified of changes after the applicationDidFinishLaunching method has run. Does it have something to do with the scope of the AchievementTracker reference or more likely the reference to my core data StatTracker is going away once that method finishes up. I guess I'm not sure the right place to place these if that is the case. Would love some help. • HelloWebView Sample: now using SDK 3 and getting killed

  Hey Folks, Well I was trying to get the HelloWebview example working with SDK 7 with no success (see HelloWebView Sample: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial thread), so I decided just out of curiosity to back off to SDK3 to see if I could learn anything. I have been able to get all the "Layout" samples to work and decided to try something a little harder. Unfortunately, I still cannot get the simple HelloWebView app to run. I no longer get a Permission Denial but now the app is getting killed. Killed usually implies that there are not enough resources (memory etc.) for an application to run.... Any thoughts? Are there any other log files I can look at either on my computer or on the emulator? The main.xml, manifest, and console output are below. Let me know if you need more information. • Getting jQuery slideshow animation to stop on click

  I have a slide show built with jQuery that pauses on hover. It has a group of thumbnails sitting on top of the image that advances the image when clicked, otherwise the slideshow just auto-rotates through all the images. There is also a +/- to expand and contract a caption related to each image. I want to have the slideshow's automatic advancing to stop if one of the thumbnails is clicked, or the +/-. Basically, just stop whenever a user clicks anywhere within the gallery (div class=".homeImg"). I'm having a major brain fart in getting this working properly and could use some advice.   I'm trying to use the automap functionality in fluent to generate a DDL for the following model and program, but somehow I keep getting the error "Association references unmapped class: IRole" when I call the GenerateSchemaCreationScript method in NHibernate. When I replace the type of the ILists with the implementation of the interfaces (User and Role) everything works fine. What am I doing wrong here?   I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the proper syntax & formatting for a service account to send a POST Object to bucket request? I'm attempting it programmatically using the HttpComponents library. I manage to get a token from my GoogleCredential, but every time I construct the POST request, I get: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access denied.</Message><Detailsbucket-name</Details></Error The Google documentation that describes the request methods, mentions posting using html forms, but I'm hoping that wasn't suggesting the ONLY way to get the job done. I know that HttpComponents has a way to explicitly create form data by using UrlEncodedFormEntity, but it doesn't support multipart data. Which is why I went with using the MultipartEntity class. I've read focus can be a problem, but changing focus in the XML files does not seem to work. Here's the relevant bits of code. I have gotten as far as (I believe) getting the raw data into a byte array (UInt8) but it is 16 bit PCM data and I am having trouble reading the data out. • User control events not getting to their handlers

• 4 table query / join. getting duplicate rows

  So I have written a query that will grab an order (this is for an ecommerce type site), and from that order id it will get all order items (ecom_order_items), print options (c_print_options) and images (images). The eoi_p_id is currently a foreign key from the images table. This works fine and the query is: SELECT eoi_parentid, eoi_p_id, eoi_po_id, eoi_quantity, i_id, i_parentid, po_name, po_price FROM ecom_order_items, images, c_print_options WHERE eoi_parentid = '1' AND i_id = eoi_p_id AND po_id = eoi_po_id; The above would grab all the stuff I need for order #1 Now to complicate things I added an extra table (ecom_products), which needs to act in a similar way to the images table. The eoi_p_id can also point at a foreign key in this table too. I have added an extra field 'eoi_type' which will either have the value 'image', or 'product'. Now items in the order could be made up of a mix of items from images or ecom_products. Whatever I try it either ends up with too many records, wont actually output any with eoi_type = 'product', and just generally wont work. Any ideas on how to achieve what I am after? Can provide SQL samples if needed? • What are the things I use every day programmed with?

  It isn't so interesting to find out what this text editor here or that IRC client there was programmed with, also it isn't really hard and neither are there really suprising things to come out. Wow so it was programmed in Python, I didn't expect that. What I'm asking is: What are the things that we daily see, use or generally need programmed with? To name a few (really only a few of those out there): My alarm clock It has many features so it would probably be hard programming it with assembler or whatever, so did they probably use a programming language? If yes, which? My electrical tooth brush The (stupid) board computer of my car. (6 years old, has few features but a red LED display showing me how cold/warm it is outside and how much gas I'm using up per hour at the moment) Those (old) plastic mini-mini computers with the LCD(?) displays that only had one game available on them: PacMan, tetris or so. I'm not directly thinking of this but it may be similar: Other, probably more interesting, things I didn't mention

• What things can I teach a group of children about programming in one day?

  I'm running a day for 30 kids aged 11-18 about computer game programming. They have all opted to do it, but they have no experience at all of programming. My main aim is for them to learn a few things: programming is hard/challenging programming is something they can learn to do being a computer games programmer != playing games all day a little more insight into how games actually work I'd thought of splitting them into two groups, of younger/less experience and older/more experience, then doing slightly different things. I'd considered showing them Scratch, Game Maker, before showing them the basics of Python and getting them to write a simple text based game (perhaps something like, computer picks a random number, you have to guess it in as few guesses as possible, computer says higher/lower for each guess). Does anyone have any ideas of things to do/show them/ways to teach them?

• I am getting disconnected from DSL modem and can't connect unless I restart.

  I am using Ubuntu very recently. My DSL connection with the modem is working fine but after certain idle time the modem connection is getting disconnected and I am not getting the icons to reconnect. If I go to System Settings-- Network, it is showing "Network cable is unplugged". It works fine if i reboot. This is a sudden problem and no configuration has been altered. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with latest updates.
