  • Variable scope problem in JavaScript

    - by dfjhdfjhdf
I declare a variable with the var word inside a function that handles Ajax requests, then later on in the function I have another function that should change the value of the variable but - my problem - it fails. How to settle the problem down? Here's similiar code I use: function sendRuest(someargums) { /* some code */ var the_variable; /* some code */ //here's that other function request.onreadystatechange = function() { if (request.readyState == 4) { switch (request.status) { case 200: //here the variable should be changed the_variable = request.responseXML; /* a lot of code */ //somewhere here the function closes } return the_variable; } var data = sendRequest(someargums); //and trying to read the data I get the undefined value

  • printing double in binary

    - by Happy Mittal
    In Thinking in C++ by Bruce eckel, there is a program given to print a double value in binary.(Chapter 3, page no. 189) int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { if(argc != 2) { cout << "Must provide a number" << endl; exit(1); } double d = atof(argv[1]); unsigned char* cp = reinterpret_cast<unsigned char*>(&d); for(int i = sizeof(double); i > 0 ; i -= 2) { printBinary(cp[i-1]); printBinary(cp[i]); } } Here while printing cp[i] when i=8(assuming double is of 8 bytes), wouldn't it be undefined behaviour? I mean this code doesn't work as it doesn't print cp[0].

  • Does program need additional symbols from .so shared library except those declared in header file?

    - by solotim
In C programming, I thought that a object file can be successfully linked with a .so file as long as the .so file offers all symbols which have been declared in the header file. Suppose I have foo.c, bar.h and two libraries libbar.so.1 and libbar.so.2. The implementation of libbar.so.1 and libbar.so.2 is totally different, but I think it's OK as long as they both offers functions declared in bar.h. I linked foo.o with libbar.so.1 and produced an executable: foo.bin. This executable worked when libbar.so.1 is in LD_LIBRARY_PATH.(of course a symbolic link is made as libbar.so) However, when I change the symbolic link to libbar.so.2, foo.bin could not run and complainted this: undefined symbol: _ZSt4cerr I found this symbol type is 'B' and it does not appear in libbar.so.2. Obviously this symbol has nothing to do with those functions I decared in bar.h. What's wrong here?

  • Can't send flash message from Model method

    - by Andy
Hello, I'm trying to prevent a record that has a relationship to another record from being deleted. I can stop the deletion but not send a flash message as I had hoped! class Purchaseitem < ActiveRecord::Base before_destroy :check_if_ingredient ... def check_if_ingredient i = Ingredient.find(:all, :conditions => "purchaseitem_id = #{self.id}") if i.length > 0 self.errors.add(:name) flash.now[:notice] = "#{self.name} is in use as an ingredient and cannot be deleted" return false end end This will prevent a the delete wihthout the flash line, and when I add it I get: undefined local variable or method `flash' for # Any help would be much appreciated!

  • overflow technique in stack

    - by metashockwave
int main(void) { problem2(); } void doit2(void) { int overflowme[16]; //overflowme[37] =0; } void problem2(void) { int x = 42; doit2(); printf("x is %d\n", x); printf("the address of x is 0x%x\n", &x); } Would someone help me understand why overflowme[37] =0; from the doit2 function will overwrite the value of x? (please include Program Counter and Frame Pointer of the function doit2 in your explanation) Thank you! It works every time with Project properties-Configuration properties-C/C++ -Code Generation-Basic Runtime Checks set to "Default". so it's not an undefined behavior.

  • Accessing a function of an instance which is in an arraylist

    - by fadeir
I'm tring to access a function of an instance which is in an arraylist. Is there any way to do that without using the class name of the instance? import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; class apple{ int price; public void myFunction(int iPrice) { price=iPrice; } } class orange{ int price; public void myFunction(int iPrice) { price=iPrice; } } public class main { public static void main(String[] args) { List list= new ArrayList(); //create 3 apple object to list list.add( new apple() ); list.add( new apple() ); list.add( new orange() ); list.get(0).myFunction(1); /* Error: The method myFunction(int) is undefined for the type Object*/ } } I know that;((apple) list.get(0)).myFunction(1); is a way but I'dont want to use any class name while calling the function.

  • Errors when using a Ruby On Rails scaffold with a data type of interger

    - by bublebboy
I am learning Ruby On Rails. I am on a shared hosting with Ruby version 1.8.1 and Rails version 2.3.10. I am working my way through a tutorial at http://railstutorial.org/chapters/a-demo-app?version=2.3#top and at one point in the tutorial it has me run: script/generate scaffold Micropost content:string user_id:interger The tutorial is using the default database, SQLite3. The command works and I use rake db:migrate to create the database. I can view the page listing the microposts (which is empty), but when I try to add a micropost (microposts/new) I get an error undefined method `user_id' for #<Micropost:0x7f710e4988e8> After doing some testing on my own it seems I experience the problem by using the data type of interger. While I understand that using a scaffold is not the best way of building a ruby on rails, I'm just beginning and would still like to know why I am experiencing this problem to help me better understand how rails works.

Hi everybay! I use an object to check that a group of radio buttons have a precise value like set on "rule" object. • jQuery UI Slider Problem

    - by OneNerd
I have been using jQuery sliders for about a week now without issues in my project, but I just hit an issue. I am adding 3 sliders to my page All 3 are added exact same way (like this): $('#slider_id').slider({value:100,'slide':function(e, ui){// some code}}); 2 work properly One does not work (it gives me a fiebug error 'f is undefined') when I drag the slider handle The only glaring difference I can see is that the one giving the error is inside of a jQuery UI dialog(). Interestingly, when I place it outside of the dialog, it works! So, wondering if there are known issues with sliders inside dialogs, and/or if there are any workarounds. Thanks

  • Weird behavior in referring to global variable. Is this a bug in javascript? Surely it isn't!

    - by Chandan .
Consider the following piece of code. <html> <body> <script> var x = 5; //globally declared function showX() { alert("x="+x); //trying to display global value var x=10; //trying to create and initialize a local x } </script> <input type = "button" value="Show X" onclick="showX()"> </body> </html> The alert statement shows 'x=undefined'. And doesn't print the global value of x as expected. An equivalent java code would display 5! So, is it a bug? If not then how does one explain that behavior?

  • create a model in create action from a class

    - by Pontek
As a newbie to rails I can't find how to solve my issue ^^ I want to create a VideoPost from a form with a text field containing a video url (like youtube) I'm getting information on the video thanks to the gem https://github.com/thibaudgg/video_info And I want to save thoses information using a model of mine (VideoInformation). But I don't know how the create process should work. Thanks for any help ! I'm trying to create a VideoPost in VideoPostsController like this : def create video_info = VideoInfo.new(params[:video_url]) video_information = VideoInformation.create(video_info) #undefined method `stringify_keys' for #<Youtube:0x00000006a24120> if video_information.save @video_post = current_user.video_posts.build(video_information) end end My VideoPost model : # Table name: video_posts # # id :integer not null, primary key # user_id :integer # video_information_id :integer # created_at :datetime not null # updated_at :datetime not null My VideoInformation model (which got same attributes name than VideoInfo gem) : # Table name: video_informations # # id :integer not null, primary key # title :string(255) # description :text # keywords :text # duration :integer # video_url :string(255) # thumbnail_small :string(255) # thumbnail_large :string(255) # created_at :datetime not null # updated_at :datetime not null

  • node.js - strange behavior of coffeescript compiler

    - by JimBob
I noticed an unexplainable behavior of the coffeescript compiler for me :) For example: getImage: (req, res) => realty_id = req.query.id if (realty_id?) Result ImageController.prototype.getImage = function(req, res) { var realty_id, _this = this; realty_id = req.query.id; if ((realty_id != null) But actually the last line should be: if ((typeof realty_id !== "undefined" && realty_id !== null)) When I comment out "realty_id = req.query.id" it works well. Has anyone a explanation for that?

  • Compiling zlib for 64 bit on windows

    - by Allan Hollenberg
I am currently working on a cross-platform game for Mac OSX and Windows and I'm having some issues with the ZLib library on Windows 64 bit. My game is focussed on a 64 bit architecture and I am unable to get ZLib to work along with it. When I compile ZLib itself (through make all64 at the source directory of ZLib) it shows no issues but when I want to use it I get a error saying '/usr/local/lib/libz.a(gzread.o):gzread.c:(.text+0x28e): undefined reference to `__errno'' I have included errno.h before I include zlib.h in my project but that doesn't seem to matter. I am compiling my app through the cygwin64 terminal and using the x86_64-w64-mingw32-g++ command, I am also linking directly against the lib64 version (if I remove that it compiles correctly but crashes on running due to it having a x86 lib)

  • Function declaration in C and C++

    - by Happy Mittal
I have two C++ files, say file1.cpp and file2.cpp as //file1.cpp #include<cstdio> void fun(int i) { printf("%d\n",i); } //file2.cpp void fun(double); int main() { fun(5); } When I compile them and link them as c++ files, I get an error "undefined reference to fun(double)". But when I do this as C files, I don't get error and 0 is printed instead of 5. Please explain the reason. Moreover I want to ask whether we need to declare a function before defining it because I haven't declared it in file1.cpp but no error comes in compilation.

  • Conditional value for ActiveRecord create method only

    - by Steve Wright
I have a form where I have an administrator creating new users. The form uses the User model I created (login, password, first_name, etc...). For the last field on the form, I want to have a checkbox that doesn't need to be stored as part of the User record, but it is needed for the controller. This will control whether or not the newly created user will receive a welcome email or not. def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save if @user.send_welcome_email UserMailer.welcome_email(@user).deliver end redirect_to(admin_users_url, :notice => "User #{@user.name} was successfully created.") else render :action => "new" end end In my view (haml) I am trying to access it like this: %p Send Welcome Email? = f.check_box :send_welcome_email I tried to make this an attr_accessible: :send_welcome_email but the controller does not recognize it. I get an undefined method 'send_welcome_email' for #&lt;User:0x00000100d080a8&gt; I would like it to look like this: What is the best way to get this working:

  • Best method of including an abstract in a latex 'book'?

    - by olan
Hello there. I've been looking for the answer to this question for a while now but can't seem to find it, so I'm hoping someone on here can help me. I'm writing up a thesis in Latex, and really like the \frontmatter, \mainmatter and \backmatter ability when using the "book" environment. However I need to add an abstract and the \begin{abstract} environment is undefined when creating a "book". If I change to a "report" however, I lose the functionality of the *matter terms. So what I really need to know is: is there a simple method of including an abstract in a "book" and have it formatted the same as it would be in a "report"? (i.e. centered vertically and horizontally with an 'abstract' heading) Thanks for any help! First post on stackoverflow after reading for months!

  • Multi dimensional array with get image data

    - by Dave
I'm really confused with an array im making, its gotten a bit confusing to follow but i believe its the only way for me to approach what im trying to do. My idea here is to store getImageData in an array so i can link each image to an array of data. This is how i create my array: var listObj = { id: uid, extra: [ ctx2.getImageData(abposx,abposy,imgwidth,imgheight) ] }; pixeld.push(listObj); So now im trying to run through the array "pixeld" to find the uid but i don't know how the syntax should be.... this is what i tried: for (j = (pixeld.length-1); j > -1; --j){ if(pixeld[j].extra.data[3] !==0){ //line 220 matches.push(pixeld[j].id); } } The problem is i get this error: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '3' of undefined on line 220 I have marked which line is 220 in the for loop. Any one know what my mistake is ?

  • Backbone inheritance - deep copying

    - by Ed .
I've seen this question regarding inheritance in Backbone: Backbone.js view inheritance. Useful but doesn't answer my question. The problem I'm experiencing is this: Say I have a class Panel (model in this example); var Panel = Backbone.Model.extend({ defaults : { name : 'my-panel' } }); And then an AdvancedPanel; var AdvancedPanel = Panel.extend({ defaults : { label : 'Click to edit' } }); The following doesn't work: var advancedPanel = new AdvancedPanel(); alert(advancedPanel.get('name')); // Undefined :( JSFiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/hWmnb/ I guess I can see that I can achieve this myself through some custom extend function that creates a deep copy of the prototype, but this seems like a common thing that people might want from Backbone inheritance, is there a standard way of doing it?

For now, I hard coded all these rules in my code. For better extensability, I'd like to define all the detection startegies respectively rules in a XML file and parse it. But I'm not really sure how I can define such a detection strategy in a XML file. Any hints how to start?
