  I'm a long time server side dev who has been tasked with building a bleeding edge web UI (go figure), so apologies for the very broad nature of the question. What are the best modern libraries, tools, languages and patterns for building a dynamic web application that will run seamlessly on mobiles also? My requirements are that it must be dynamic (push updates), support automated testing, and should allow 'componentization' (a team of devs will be working on this). What should I check out and why? • keep getting added to hosts.deny + iptables

  I am confused to why this has started to happen. On my local network, if I click 10-20 apache/http links my server will decide to add me hosts.deny file and block me on iptables. Its not just apache, it seems to happen with any kinda of traffic, that comes in on a flood method. Like I use subsonic, if I change tracks 10-20 times, it will do it. I would assume I have some sort of firewall which is sitting on the server which is doing this. However I do not have fail2ban or any denyhosts in /var/lib. I cannot work out why I keep getting added to hosts.deny/iptables. Thanks

• Web Farm Application deployment best practices

  Hi All, We are having a web farm which hosts multiple ASP.Net applications. We typically have 4 servers on the farm. The dilemma which i am having is in terms of capacity issue of the farm. Lets say i have currently got 200 apps in total. Should I deploy all 200 apps on all 4 servers (i.e. all the servers in the farm are identical) or should i split the applications between 2 sets of server and create 2 smaller farms so that i can then manage the application based on its criticality and usage etc. Any best practices in this area would be highly appreciated. • Do I have to learn html and javascript to create web applications?

  I am an experienced Java programmer, and I want to create a complex web application requiring dynamic pages, drawings, etc (take SO as an example). Do I have to learn javascript/html in order to create such an application? It is not that I don't want to learn another language (I've done this before), but technology on the javascript environment seems to change so fast that when you finish learning one framework it is already obsolete. I have checked a number of java framework for web development (spring, play), but not deeply. So can these frameworks (or other possible java frameworks that I'm not aware of) be used without learning html/javascript? I also have some python experience. So if I can do the app in python it is also an option.

• How / Where can I host my Java web application? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? In case you want to skip to the crux of my inquiry just read the bold type. I just finished my CS degree (at 39 years old :-)). For my final project I designed and built a system that can provide local positioning / location awareness to mobile wifi devices (only have Android client thus far). The server receives data from clients, processes it, and responds to the clients with a messages containing information about their respective locations. I would like to continue the project (perhaps release as open source but that is a different discussion). Thus far my server application has been running on the CS department's hardware where I could pretty much do whatever I wanted. I'm getting kicked off that system in a few weeks so I have to find a new home for my server application. I need a host that will let me run my Java server (along w/ mySQL db) -- preferably on the cheap since I haven't yet got a job. I have very little experience with the "real world" of web development / hosting. I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of hosting service will let me run my application as is. If that turns out to be a tall order then I need to know what my options are for changing thing so that I can get up and running with some hosting. As an aside, I'm also researching whether or not I should rewrite this in a different language. Trying to figure out if there is a substantially better (for whatever reason) one for what I'm doing. This might also potentially have a bearing on my hosting needs. One possibility is to write the server in something more widely accepted by hosting services. I have been searching for answers to my question and haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Part of the problem might be that I don't know exactly what terminology to use. If there is a good answer to this question elsewhere please feel free to point me towards it. Thanks for help / advice.

  I'm basically familiar with what I need in order to setup web services to talk with a centralized db, but if I don't have to go through and do all the work, I'd rather not. Is there an open source solution that would allow me to easily integrate web services for data transfer to a central db? I want to make a site that is powered by a db that can also be accessed by other things like mobile apps for example. What are the steps involved in setting up such a site? Any help is appreciated!   How do I get my webpage not to go back when they hit the back button and are logged out and how can I add a web page to be blocked like FACEBOOK doesn't let you get into their site with out having a page or a account with them, and if you try to put something in the url and try to go to something on their site it gives you a web page that says "you have to be logged in first" . Like I don't want someone going to the url of the "index" page before they have signed up as a member they need to make an account first then they can have access to the "index" page. How do I do this. I have a website so far that has a database and the website has 5 pages so far and two of them which is the login and sign up page which are both used with php and mysql and they work fine. How do I restrict access to the main website by first having the users sign up with me for an account.

  After successfully installing Nagios core 3.4.1 (i also installed plug-in1.4.11) on our linux rhel 5.3 server i cannot login to the nagios web interface.I am running apache 2.2.3 I am using internet explorer 8 and also firefox 3.6.3 When i try to enter the url http//localhost/nagios/ on a desktop (on the same network as the Nagios server)it does seem to like it but if i try http//x.x.x.x/nagios/ (where x.x.x.x is the IP address of my nagios server) it likes it but then the authentication popup appears after entering the password and username(nagiosadmin) it throws the errors below The server x.x.x.x at Nagios access requires a username and password Warning this server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner(basic authentication without a secure connection) After a few attempts i get error 401 authentication required error from internet explorer ;this server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials or your browser doesnt understand how to supply the credentials required. Help Please anyone..seems like an authentication issue

  Hey folks, I am providing web hosting services (shared and dedicated) and have had one of my shared hosting clients mention needing an SSL cert for their site where they are collecting insurance quotes in a form, including names and social security numbers. My privacy sense is tingling, and I'm pretty sure it's not legal (in the US) to do this on a shared system, but can't find anything to support my thoughts outside of PCI-DSS, but the customer isn't processing payments through the site so I'm not sure if that applies. I'm reading lots of policy documents where people advise to minimize and manage the PII footprint internally, but as the host I don't want to put all of my customer's clients at possible risk. I'm not looking here for legal advice necessarily, but perhaps someone in a similar position to mine can provide some rule of thumb or point me in the right direction.
