  • JPA is not good enough

    - by Cristiano Sanchez
    Working in a medium size project during last 4 months - we are using JPA and Spring - I'm quite sure that JPA is not powerfull for projects that requires more than CRUD screen... Query interface is poor, Hibernate doesn't respect JPA spec all the time and lot of times I need to use hibernate classes, annotations and config. What do you guys think about JPA? Is it not good enough?

  • Table header is not shown

    - by Vivien
    My error is that the table headers of my two tables are not shown. Right now I am setting the header with new JTable(data, columnNames). Here is an example which shows, my problem: public class Test extends JFrame { private static final long serialVersionUID = -4682396888922360841L; private JMenuBar menuBar; private JMenu mAbout; private JMenu mMain; private JTabbedPane tabbedPane; public SettingsTab settings = new SettingsTab(); private void addMenuBar() { menuBar = new JMenuBar(); mMain = new JMenu("Main"); mAbout = new JMenu("About"); menuBar.add(mMain); menuBar.add(mAbout); setJMenuBar(menuBar); } public void createTabBar() { tabbedPane = new JTabbedPane(JTabbedPane.TOP); tabbedPane.addTab("Settings", settings.createLayout()); add(tabbedPane); tabbedPane.setTabLayoutPolicy(JTabbedPane.SCROLL_TAB_LAYOUT); } private void makeLayout() { setTitle("Test"); setLayout(new BorderLayout()); setPreferredSize(new Dimension(1000, 500)); addMenuBar(); createTabBar(); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); pack(); setVisible(true); } public void start() { javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { makeLayout(); } }); } public static void main(String[] args) { Test gui = new Test(); gui.start(); } public class SettingsTab extends JPanel { public JScrollPane createLayout() { JPanel panel = new JPanel(new MigLayout("")); JScrollPane sp = new JScrollPane(panel); sp.setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(ScrollPaneConstants.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS); panel.add(table1(), "growx, wrap"); panel.add(Box.createRigidArea(new Dimension(0,10))); panel.add(table2()); // panel.add(Box.createRigidArea(new Dimension(0,10))); return sp; } public JPanel table1() { JPanel panel1 = new JPanel(); String[] columnNames = {"First Name", "Last Name"}; Object[][] data = { {"Kathy", "Smith"}, {"John", "Doe"}, {"Sue", "Black"}, {"Jane", "White"}, {"Joe", "Brown"}, {"John", "Doe"}, {"Sue", "Black"}, {"Jane", "White"}, {"Joe", "Brown"} }; final JTable table = new JTable(data, columnNames); tableProperties(table); panel1.add(table); panel1.setLayout(new BoxLayout(panel1, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); return panel1; } public JPanel table2() { JPanel panel1 = new JPanel(); String[] columnNames = {"First Name", "Last Name"}; Object[][] data = { {"Kathy", "Smith"}, {"John", "Doe"}, {"Sue", "Black"}, {"Jane", "White"}, {"Joe", "Brown"}, {"John", "Doe"}, {"Sue", "Black"}, {"Jane", "White"}, {"Joe", "Brown"} }; final JTable table = new JTable(data, columnNames); table.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(new Dimension(500, 70)); table.setFillsViewportHeight(true); tableProperties(table); panel1.add(table); panel1.setLayout(new BoxLayout(panel1, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); return panel1; } public void tableProperties(JTable table) { table.setAutoResizeMode(JTable.AUTO_RESIZE_ALL_COLUMNS); table.repaint(); table.revalidate(); } } } Any recommendations what I am doing wrong?

  • Spring bean creation via deserialization

    - by mdma
    Spring has many different ways of creating beans, but is it possible to create a bean by deserializing a resource? My application has a number of Components, and each manipulates a certain type of data. During test, the data object is instantiated directly and set directly on the component, e.g. component.setData(someDataObject). At runtime, the data is available as a serialized object and read in from the serialized stream by the component. Rather than having each component explicitly deserialize it's data from the stream, it would be more consistent and flexible to have Spring deserialize the data object from a resource. Is there a DeserializerBeanFactory or something similar?

  • Check if BigInteger is not a perfect square

    - by Ender
    I have a BigInteger value, let's say it is 282 and is inside the variable x. I now want to write a while loop that states: while b2 isn't a perfect square: a ? a + 1 b2 ? a*a - N endwhile How would I do such a thing using BigInteger? EDIT: The purpose for this is so I can write this method. As the article states one must check if b2 is not square.

  • What happens to my PriorityQueue if my Comparator throws an exception while it's busy bubbling up or

    - by nieldw
    Hi, I'm trying order pairs of integers ascendantly where a pair is considered less than another pair if both its entries are strictly less than those of the other pair, and larger than the other pair if both its entries are strictly larger than those of the other pair. All other cases are considered incomparable. They way I want to solve this is by defining a Comparator that implements the above, but will throw an exception for incomparable cases, and provide that to a PriorityQueue. Of course, while inserting a pair the priority queue does several comparisons while bubbling the new entry up to its correct position in the heap, and many of these will be comparable. But it may happen during the bubbling process that a pair is encountered with which this new pair is incomparable, and an exception will be thrown. If this happens, what will be the state of the PriorityQueue? Will the pair I was trying to insert sit in the heap at the last position it was in before the exception was thrown? If I use the PriorityQueue's remove(Object o) method, will the PriorityQueue be restored to a consistent state? Thanks

  • Replacing ORM schema without dropping the entire data

    - by Udi
    Hey, I'm using OpenJPA as a JPA provider. Is there a way in which I can recreate the database tables (When an entity changes) without dropping the entire data? When an entity changes, I drop and create every table in the store, and obviously lose the data within. Is there a tool or product to keep the data somehow? Thanks, Udi

  • How to suppress/control logging of Wagon-FTP Maven extension?

    - by Vincenzo
    I'm deploying Maven site by FTP, using Wagon-FTP. Works fine, but output is full of FTP connection/authentication details, which effectively expose logins and passwords to everybody (especially if the project is open source and its CI protocols are publicly accessible): [...] [INFO] [INFO] --- maven-site-plugin:3.0-beta-3:deploy (default-deploy) @ rempl --- Reply received: 220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ---------- 220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed. 220-Local time is now 09:08. - by domi
    I've got a really nasty problem... I wrote a red5 app and so on and it is running perfectly on my local computer. Now the problem occurs = How can I make this program work on a remote server? Local : OSX 10.5 - red5 0.63 Server: CentOS 5 - red5 0.90 Maybe its because of the version difference... but I can't test red5 0.90 locally becaus it won't start up -.-' and I can't install the 0.63 on the server because of missing dependencies (and broken links to them...)

  • JLayeredPane versus Container layering

    - by Gili
    JLayeredPane allows one to stack multiple Components on top of one another using JLayeredPane.add(Component, Integer). Components in higher "layers" display on top of Components in lower "layers". Container.add(Component, int) provides a similar mechanism whereby Components with lower indexes display on top of Components with higher indexes. Please note that the first mechanism uses Integer and the second mechanism uses int. Also, one renders high values on top of low ones, and the other does the opposite. Do not mix the two :) My question is: what's the point of using JLayeredPane when Container already provides the same mechanism? Does one layer components better than the another? UPDATE: There is also Container.setComponentZOrder(Component, int) to consider.

  • Is it a good way to close a thread?

    - by Roman
    I have a short version of the question: I start a thread like that: counter.start();, where counter is a thread. At the point when I want to stop the thread I do that: counter.interrupt() In my thread I periodically do this check: Thread.interrupted(). If it gives true I return from the thread and, as a consequence, it stops. And here are some details, if needed: If you need more details, they are here. From the invent dispatch thread I start a counter thread in this way: public static void start() { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { showGUI(); counter.start(); } }); } where the thread is defined like that: public static Thread counter = new Thread() { public void run() { for (int i=4; i>0; i=i-1) { updateGUI(i,label); try {Thread.sleep(1000);} catch(InterruptedException e) {}; } // The time for the partner selection is over. SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.remove(partnerSelectionPanel); frame.add(selectionFinishedPanel); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); } }; The thread performs countdown in the "first" window (it shows home much time left). If time limit is over, the thread close the "first" window and generate a new one. I want to modify my thread in the following way: public static Thread counter = new Thread() { public void run() { for (int i=4; i>0; i=i-1) { if (!Thread.interrupted()) { updateGUI(i,label); } else { return; } try {Thread.sleep(1000);} catch(InterruptedException e) {}; } // The time for the partner selection is over. if (!Thread.interrupted()) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.remove(partnerSelectionPanel); frame.add(selectionFinishedPanel); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); } else { return; } } };

  • CascadeType problem in One to Many Relation

    - by Milad.KH
    Hi I have two classes which have a Unidirectional One to Many relation with each other. public class Offer{ ... @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @JoinTable(name = "Offer_Fields", joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "OFFER_ID"), inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "FIELDMAPPER_ID")) private Set<FieldMapper> fields = new HashSet<FieldMapper>(); } public class FieldMapper{ ... } I want to store an Offer with a set of FieldMapper to database. When I Use CascadeType.ALL in my OneToMany, I got this error: org.hibernate.HibernateException: Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions and when I change CascadeType to something else I got this error: org.hibernate.TransientObjectException: object references an unsaved transient instance - save the transient instance before flushing: com.RCSTT.library.FieldMapper Thanks for your help.

  • Spring 3 MVC - how to turn a form into a query string?

    - by caerphilly
    I have a simple Spring form that gets bound to a form object on post. The http POST handler does some work, and then needs to redirect to a new URL, passing the form data as querystring parameters. So, assuming I have a form backing object with properties "param1" and "param2", I want to build a string that looks something like this: redirect:/app/new/page?param1=value;param2=value Now, Spring will automatically bind values FROM a querystring or a form post into my form object, but I want to GENERATE a querystring with values taken from the form object. Obviously it's trivial to do this manually but since I'm going to have lots of different form backing objects, is there some built-in facility in Spring to generate a query string from a form object, suitable for building into a URL? Thanks.

  • Hibernate: Check if object exists/changed

    - by swalkner
    Assuming I have an object Person with long id String firstName String lastName String address Then I'm generating a Person-object somewhere in my application. Now I'd like to check if the person exists in the database (= firstname/lastname-combination is in the database). If not = insert it. If yes, check, if the address is the same. If not = update the address. Of course, I can do some requests (first, try to load object with firstname/lastname), then (if existing), compare the address. But isn't there a simpler, cleaner approach? If got several different classes and do not like to have so many queries. I'd like to use annotations as if to say: firstname/lastname = they're the primary key. Check for them if the object exists. address is the parameter you have to compare if it stayed the same or not. Does Hibernate/JPA (or another framework) support something like that? pseude-code: if (database.containsObject(person)) { //containing according to compound keys if (database.containsChangedObject(person)) { database.updateObject(person); } } else { database.insertObject(person); }

  • How can user change the jre parameter values after the exe is generated in Launch4j?

    - by Wing C. Chen
    Is it possible to change the jre parameter values after the exe file is generated through Launch4j? The ideal scenario is like this: The default parameter values are applied when the program is started. However, when the user wants to change some jre parameter values, he goes to a .ini file, MyProgram.ini for example, changes the values there, and the new values will be applied next time the program is started. I think eclipse uses the same way for its memory and some other parameter settings.

  • Output to jTextArea in realtime

    - by Robert
    I have some code which takes a few minutes to process, it has to connect to the web for each string in a long array, each string is a url. I want to make it so that everytime it connects, it should refresh the jtextarea so that the user is not staring into a blank page that looks frozen for 20 min. or however long it takes. here is an example of something i tried and didnt work: try { ArrayList<String> myLinks = LinkParser.getmyLinksArray(jTextArea1.getText()); for (String s : myLinks) { jTextArea2.append(LinkChecker.checkFileStatus(s) + "\n"); } } catch (IOException ex) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(jTextArea1, "Parsing Error", "Parsing Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); Logger.getLogger(MYView.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); }

  • Does Hibernate create tables in the database automatically.

    - by theJava
    http://www.vaannila.com/spring/spring-hibernate-integration-1.html Upon reading this tutorial, they have not mentioned anything over creating tables in the DB. Does the Hibernate handle it automatically by creating tables and fields once i specify them. Here is my beans configuration. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:p="http://www.springframework.org/schema/p" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans.xsd"> <bean id="viewResolver" class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.InternalResourceViewResolver" p:prefix="/WEB-INF/jsp/" p:suffix=".jsp" /> <bean id="myDataSource" class="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource" destroy-method="close"> <property name="driverClassName" value="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"/> <property name="url" value="jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/spring"/> <property name="username" value="monwwty"/> <property name="password" value="www"/> </bean> <bean id="mySessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.annotation.AnnotationSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="myDataSource" /> <property name="annotatedClasses"> <list> <value>uk.co.vinoth.spring.domain.User</value> </list> </property> <property name="hibernateProperties"> <props> <prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLDialect</prop> <prop key="hibernate.show_sql">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto">create</prop> </props> </property> </bean> <bean id="myUserDAO" class="uk.co.vinoth.spring.dao.UserDAOImpl"> <property name="sessionFactory" ref="mySessionFactory"/> </bean> <bean name="/user/*.htm" class="uk.co.vinoth.spring.web.UserController" > <property name="userDAO" ref="myUserDAO" /> </bean> </beans>

  • Strange behaviour with GregorianCalendar

    - by Spark
    I just encountered a strange behaviour with the GregorianCalendar class, and I was wondering if I really was doing something bad. This only appends when the initialization date's month has an actualMaximum bigger than the month I'm going to set the calendar to. Here is the example code : // today is 2010/05/31 GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar(); cal.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2010); cal.set(Calendar.MONTH, 1); // FEBRUARY cal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH)); cal.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY)); cal.set(Calendar.MINUTE, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.MINUTE)); cal.set(Calendar.SECOND, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.SECOND)); cal.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, cal.getActualMaximum(Calendar.MILLISECOND)); return cal.getTime(); // => 2010/03/03, wtf I know the problem is caused by the fact that the calendar initialization date is a 31 day month ( may ), which mess with the month set to february (28 days). The fix is easy ( just set day_of_month to 1 before setting year and month ), but I was wondering is this really was the wanted behaviour. Any thoughts ?

  • JUnit - stop it from exiting on finish?

    - by waitinforatrain
    Hi guys, Quick JUnit question. I'm running some unit tests that involve starting up the GUI and doing a load of stuff. I would like to see the results after the test to confirm it visually. However, it gets to the end of the code and exits, as it should. If I want to override this, I put a breakpoint on the last line of the test. This is pretty awkward though. Is there some option to stop it from exiting?

  • Which thread invokes SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged

    - by Christoph Heindl
    From my records it seems that SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged callback is called by the same thread that registered the callback. I.e there must be some message-queue synchronization going on in the background which allows the activitys UI-Thread to handle the callbacks. That leads to my question: Is there a need to synchronize SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged with the activitys UI-thread, assuming that the activitys UI-thread registered the SensorEventListener? I cannot find any documentation references, but can see various examples calling invalidate() unsychronized or synchronize the entire callback. I used something along the lines of Log.i(TAG, "" + Thread.currentThread().getId()); to retrieve threading information. I'm running android 2.1 update1. Best regards, Christoph
