I find the Windows 7 menu color quite hard to read. The default text and highlighted text are similar colors:
Can I change this without changing the actual theme? Or do I need to choose a high-contrast theme?
When connecting to network drives (e.g. using ExpanDrive) every operation takes a long time.
I've discovered this is due tothe Finder trying to render an icon preview of every music file and PDF it encounters. Over the network, this can take a long time.
I know I can turn off icon previews on a per-folder basis using the "View Options" dialog. Is it possible tochange these settings globally?
I am unable to get excel 2010 beta to save to a directory which contains square brackets. I have to save elsewhere and copy in. Is there any workaround? Was this a problem with older versions?
I realize that I could manually changethe directory names, but I didn't want to forgo a long standing organization scheme for the sake of one program if possible to avoid the problem.
I know there is a system preferences pane to manually modify the file associations in Mac OS X Leopard. However, I'm curious where does Leopard actually store these information?
UPDATE: as I said, I'm not interested in methods tochange them. I want to know the configuration file or database (like registry in Windows) where those mappings are stored.
I extract the Month() number out of my date. I now want tochange that number into a recognisable string Jan, Feb, Mar, etc. In Access you can use FORMAT, but what can we use in Excel?
E.g.
Date----------Formula---------Result-----What I want!
01/03/2010---Month(Date)--------3----------MAR
Thanks
Mike
Is there a way to configure bash on Linux (red hat and ubuntu) to allow shell scripts to be encoded in UTF-8?
I can't find a simple way tochange just one little thing and have the whole system just use UTF-8 files without having to worry about encoding.
I want to use WHM/Cpanel's Host Access Control interface tochange some settings in hosts.allow and hosts.deny. I want to block all access to our SSH exept from the IP we have from our office.
Daemon Access List Action Comment
sshd ALL EXCEPT x.x.x.x deny Deny access from all other IPs apart from ours
But I am worried about what happens if our IP changes, which it does about twice a week. How would I get back in to edit the hosts.allow / hosts.deny files?
I installed glassfish v3 some time ago and it's been a while since I last used it, so I forgot the port on which the server is listening and the port on which the admin console is listening. Moreover, i forgot the admin password!
I'm pretty sure I've change them because I've tried the default values and didn't work.
Is there any configuration file where I can look for them (at least the port numbers)?
I'm sharing a single IP address but there's no way tochange what network it uses for distributing the private addresses via DHCP. My problem is that my VPN to work already uses the 10.x.x network, so I'd like my home to use 192.168.x.
I've tried messing with the Network tab within the Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow but nothing works. I'm hoping there's some way to hack the configuration file.
I foolishly used Dupemerge tochange all my duplicate files into hard links. Now Windows XP is not running right, eg, explorer won't start.
Is there a utility which would traverse the filesystem looking for hard links, copy the file, delete the original link, and rename the copy, keeping the original attributes and name?
I've recently begun using Notepad++, and have found a part of its styling functionality that confuses me.
I'm currently attempting to color all of PHP's defined functions (such as count(), strlen(), etc.). In the Settings-Style Configurator, you cannot add a new style for such a function list. Instead, I have begun editing the stylers.xml and langs.xml.
To add the new coloring, in langs.xml, I've modified the php section tothe following:
<Language name="php" ext="php php3 phtml" commentLine="//" commentStart="/*" commentEnd="*/">
<Keywords name="instre1">[default keywords]</Keywords>
<Keywords name="instre2">[my function list]</Keywords>
</Language>
The [default keywords] and [my function list] are replaced with wordlists.
I've also edited the php section in stylers.xml to look like the following:
<LexerType name="php" desc="php" ext="">
<WordsStyle name="QUESTION MARK" styleID="18" fgColor="FF0000" bgColor="FDF8E3" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="DEFAULT" styleID="118" fgColor="000000" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="STRING" styleID="119" fgColor="FF0000" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="STRING VARIABLE" styleID="126" fgColor="FF0000" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="1" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="SIMPLESTRING" styleID="120" fgColor="FF0000" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="WORD" styleID="121" fgColor="008040" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="1" fontSize="" keywordClass="instre1">True False</WordsStyle>
<WordsStyle name="NUMBER" styleID="122" fgColor="FF0000" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="VARIABLE" styleID="123" fgColor="0080FF" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="COMMENT" styleID="124" fgColor="FF8040" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="COMMENTLINE" styleID="125" fgColor="FF8040" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="OPERATOR" styleID="127" fgColor="8000FF" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="0" fontSize="" />
<WordsStyle name="FUNCTIONS" styleID="128" fgColor="000080" bgColor="FEFCF5" fontName="" fontStyle="1" fontSize="" keywordClass="instre2"></WordsStyle>
</LexerType>
The changed part is the last "FUNCTIONS" line.
When I restart Notepad++ and go into the Settings-Style Configurator section, under the php language, the FUNCTIONS style exists. I can changethe style's color, and can see the entire keyword list under 'Default Keywords'. However, it is not changing the coloring of the words in my code.
When I edit the WORD style, which contains stuff like 'if', 'and', and 'true', things change accordingly in my code.
Any ideas on howto make this work?
In Word 2007 (and also on previous versions I have used), when I open folders, they open with icons or a list. I like 'detail' display and change it to that. I like detail because I can see which file is most recent and the size. But the next time I open the same folder, it opens back to icons or list but not details. How can I get it to stay where I left it?
Thanks.
what do the various USB charge while sleeping modes mean? my new laptop has these sleep while charging modes :
mode 4
mode 3
mode 2
mode 1
the list box doesn't tell me what these modes mean or do. I noticed that my iphone is charging really slowly on mode 4. What is it going to do to my power consumption if I change it to something like 1 or 2 ?
Do you know of a free add-in that displays contact's profile picture when I receive an e-mail from him? (Through the Desktop Alert that is)
Maybe there's some setting tochangeto make it happen?
Is there any build in UI for that kind of hardware like it exist in Modern UI for WiFi, Bluetooth, Broadband mobile and other common settings or I'm forced to use separate software (besides the obvious drivers for hardware)? The thing is that I have build-in fingerprint reader in my laptop and I have installed all necessary official drivers for it (and it looks like they are working fine, btw). But I did not find any UI settings where I could change Sign-in option from password/picture password/pin to fingerprint.
I'm doing the following to mount a remote server to a specific path on my server:
sshfs [email protected]:/backup/folder/ /home/myuser/server-backups/
However when I mount the server the folder permissions change (they become 700), and when I test my rsnapshot.conf file I get the following error:
snapshot_root /home/myuser/server-backups/ - snapshot_root exists \
but is not readable
What am I doing wrong ? should I mount the remote server with another user ?
I am trying to get our subversion configuration management repository to work with active directory. At the moment I am having a problem with some users having mixed case user names in active directory.
Would it be possible tochange all users with mixed case user names to be all lowercase instead?
I'm using Windows Server 2003 Active Directory with 64 bit domain controller running on Windows 2000 mixed functionality.
When I print to PDF from iPhoto (7.1.5), my scans (which are all portrait) all end up sideways in the PDF file. I've searched high and low for some setting that will alter this. The only one that I could find that would plausibly affect this is the Layout menu item in the Print customisation view, but this has no effect. Even rotating the images doesn't change it.
Why is iPhoto printing my PDFs sideways, and how do I get it to stop?
I can not remove a trial version of MS Expression Blend 3 from my pc. I am always getting the same error: "Error writing to C:\Config.msi\6e6288.rbf." The name of the file varies. On the error message window there are two buttons: "Retry" and "Cancel", but clicking on any of them gives the same result - uninstall is cancelled and everything is rolling back.
I tried tochange access permissions to that folder in many ways, but result all the same.
My laptop is Acer EXtensa 5620Z purchased within 2 years with Vista Home Basic installed.
I wish to try out Windows 7. Are there any expenses involved in thechange over please ?
Hello everyone,
I am using SharePoint Server 2007 with collaboration portal template on Windows Server 2008. The default search address for a site is pointed to /SearchCenter/Pages/Results.aspx. Any ideas howtochangethe address to some other address?
thanks in advance,
George
From what I understand, puppetd runs as root. As root, I launch
puppetd --onetime --no-daemonize --verbose
So I don't understand why this doesn't work:
exec { "useradd -m testuser":
path => "/bin:/usr/bin",
}
I just get:
...Exec[useradd -m testuser]/returns: change from notrun to 0 failed:useradd -m testuser returned 1 instead of one of [0] at...
If I execute the command directly, it works just fine.
Any ideas?
I did something weird and now my text size is like 3pt on every system window, but when I go in and change my window fonts to larger to something that looks normal, it makes my clock, bash, and other fonts absolutely gigantic. Is there any way I can just roll back my system and it's settings? It wouldn't be much bother as I installed the OS yesterday. I'd hate to have to reinstall entirely though, but I guess it's an option.
I've installed a CMS on a shared host running Apache, now when I was deleting the root directory with FTP, some folders left with a "Permission denied" error and I can't change their attributes.
the best explanation I've got is that the CMS installer has placed the files and has assigned its ownership tothe Apache server instead of my user name. (i don't know it can be done)
Ijust haven't use the uninstaller because I've lost my admin password - -"
so howto delete those folders ?
