  • Best practices retrieving XML/stream from HTTP in Android

    - by Jeffrey
Hello everyone, what are the best practices parsing XML from an HTTP resource in Android? I've been using HttpURLConnection to retrieve an InputStream, wrapping it with a BufferedInputStream, and then using SAX to parse the buffered stream. For the most part it works, though I do receive error reports of SocketTimeoutException: The operation timed out or general parsing error. I believe it's due to the InputStream. Would using HttpClient instead of HttpURLConnection help? If yes, why? Should the stream be output to a file, having the file parsed instead of the stream? Any input or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

  • Why does Hibernate 2nd level cache only cache within a session?

    - by Synesso
Using a named query in our application and with ehcache as the provider, it seems that the query results are tied to the session. Any attempt to access the value from the cache for a second time results in a LazyInitializationException We have set lazy=true for the following mapping because this object is also used by another part of the system which does not require the reference... and we want to keep it lean. <class name="domain.ReferenceAdPoint" table="ad_point" mutable="false" lazy="false"> <cache usage="read-only"/> <id name="code" type="long" column="ad_point_id"> <generator class="assigned" /> </id> <property name="name" column="ad_point_description" type="string"/> <set name="synonyms" table="ad_point_synonym" cascade="all-delete-orphan" lazy="true"> <cache usage="read-only"/> <key column="ad_point_id" /> <element type="string" column="synonym_description" /> </set> </class> <query name="find.adpoints.by.heading">from ReferenceAdPoint adpoint left outer join fetch adpoint.synonyms where adpoint.adPointField.headingCode = ?</query> Here's a snippet from our hibernate.cfg.xml <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class">net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.SingletonEhCacheProvider</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_query_cache">true</property> It doesn't seem to make sense that the cache would be constrained to the session. Why are the cached queries not usable outside of the (relatively short-lived) sessions?

  • What is jasper report's algorithm for using a data source?

    - by spderosso
Hi, I have created my custom data source by implementing the interface JRDataSource. This interface looks like this: public interface JRDataSource { /** * Tries to position the cursor on the next element in the data source. * @return true if there is a next record, false otherwise * @throws JRException if any error occurs while trying to move to the next element */ public boolean next() throws JRException; /** * Gets the field value for the current position. * @return an object containing the field value. The object type must be the field object type. */ public Object getFieldValue(JRField jrField) throws JRException; } My question is the following: In what way does jasper report call this functions for obtaining the fields in the .jrxml. E.g: if( next() )){ call getFieldValue for every field present in the page header while( next() ){ call getFieldValue for every field present in detail part } call getFieldValue for every field present the footer } The previous is just an example, experimentally in fact I found out that it is actually not like that. So my question arised. Thanks!

  • Logging a specific package in log4j programmatically

    - by VinTem
Hi there, here is the thing, I have to deploy a web app and the the log4j.properties file is created by the client so I dont have control over it. Their properties file is like this: log4j.rootCategory= FILE !-----------FILE--------------! log4j.category.FILE=DEBUG log4j.appender.FILE=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender log4j.appender.FILE.File=${catalina.base}/logs/rcweb.log log4j.appender.FILE.MaxFileSize=1024KB log4j.appender.FILE.MaxBackupIndex=10 log4j.appender.FILE.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout log4j.appender.FILE.layout.ConversionPattern=%-2d{dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss} [%t] %5p %c:%L - %m%n And in my classes I do something like this: private static final Logger LOG = Logger.getLogger(MaterialController.class); LOG.info("my log"); But the log file has never been created. I did the test and changed the log4j.properties file and deployed in my computer adding the following line: log4j.logger.br.com.golive.requisicaoCompras=DEBUG This works, but I cant use the file like this. Is there any ideas? Thanks

  • Is there a way to see which Project Wizard was used to create a given Eclipse Project?

    - by Bears will eat you
Every time I start working on a new J2EE web application, I need to create the various Eclipse projects that I'll fill up. This includes the top-level project that generates the EAR, a WAR project, etc. I usually only have to do this every couple of months, so I never remember the exact steps - specifically, which Eclipse Project Wizards to use for each project in the webapp. I have enough old J2EE projects laying around that they could serve as good reference if only I could actually see which Wizard created them. Is there a way to recover this information?

  • Hibernate constraint ConstraintViolationException. Is there an easy way to ignore duplicate entries?

    - by vincent
Basically I've got the below schema and I'm inserting records if they don't exists. However when it comes to inserting a duplicate it throws and error as I would expect. My question is whether there is an easy way to make Hibernate to just ignore inserts which would in effect insert duplicates? CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `method` ( `id` bigint(20) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `name` (`name`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=2 ; SEVERE: Duplicate entry 'GET' for key 'name' Exception in thread "pool-11-thread-4" org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException: could not insert:

  • OpenCMS - Best approach for showing rotating references

    - by user197127
Hi, I would like to add on the right column of my site a rotating references section. Each reference would have some text + name of person + company name. It does not need to be structured (open text is also ok). I would then want opencms to rotate between 20 difference references each time a page is displayed. I can keep a session scope counter holding which reference we last showed. I need a way to manage the references (users not programmers) over time. My question is which would be the best way to do so? Thanks

  • When do instance variables get initialized and values assigned?

    - by AKh
When doees the instance variable get initialized? Is it after the constructor block is done or before it? Consider this example: public abstract class Parent { public Parent(){ System.out.println("Parent Constructor"); init(); } public void init(){ System.out.println("parent Init()"); } } public class Child extends Parent { private Integer attribute1; private Integer attribute2 = null; public Child(){ super(); System.out.println("Child Constructor"); } public void init(){ System.out.println("Child init()"); super.init(); attribute1 = new Integer(100); attribute2 = new Integer(200); } public void print(){ System.out.println("attribute 1 : " +attribute1); System.out.println("attribute 2 : " +attribute2); } } public class Tester { public static void main(String[] args) { Parent c = new Child(); ((Child)c).print(); } } OUTPUT: Parent Constructor Child init() parent Init() Child Constructor attribute 1 : 100 attribute 2 : null When the memory for the atribute 1 & 2 are allocated in the heap ? Curious to know why is attribute 2 is NULL ? Are there any design flaws?

  • Adding exclusive filter for <static initializer> in findbugs

    - by MilanAleksic
Hi all, I want my findbugs report not show the following error: DM_NUMBER_CTOR: Method invokes inefficient Number constructor; use static valueOf instead The problem is that this happens in groovy-generated code files, so I can't control the source code - that is why I want to exclude it and add it to my exclude filter. I do not want to add explicitly class (since I make API that many tools will use, I want my filter to be generic). I would not like to completely remove this bug from the report by type, I would really like to only exclude this bug from appearing if it happenned in "static initializer" methods. Any idea? I tried the filter below but no luck, maybe somebody has better idea? <Match> <Method name="~.*static initializer.*" /> <Bug pattern="DM_NUMBER_CTOR" /> </Match> Here is the "stacktrace" of FindBugs in that case: In class net.milanaleksic.cuc.tools.sound.SoundPlayerTool In method net.milanaleksic.cuc.tools.sound.SoundPlayerTool.() Called method new Long(long) Should call Long.valueOf(long) instead In SoundPlayerTool.groovy

  • Security when using GWT RPC

    - by gerdemb
I have an POJO in Google Web Toolkit like this that I can retrieve from the server. class Person implements Serializable { String name; Date creationDate; } When the client makes changes, I save it back to the server using the GWT RemoteServiceServlet like this: rpcService.saveObject(myPerson,...) The problem is that the user shouldn't be able to change the creationDate. Since the RPC method is really just a HTTP POST to the server, it would be possible to modify the creationDate by changing the POST request. A simple solution would be to create a series of RPC functions like changeName(String newName), etc., but with a class with many fields would require many methods for each field, and would be inefficient to change many fields at once. I like the simplicity of having a single POJO that I can use on both the server and GWT client, but need a way to do it securely. Any ideas?

  • Making change recursively: How do I modify my algorithm to print all combinations?

    - by cb
I have an algorithm that recursively makes change in the following manner: public static int makeChange(int amount, int currentCoin) { //if amount = zero, we are at the bottom of a successful recursion if (amount == 0){ //return 1 to add this successful solution return 1; //check to see if we went too far }else if(amount < 0){ //don't count this try if we went too far return 0; //if we have exhausted our list of coin values }else if(currentCoin < 0){ return 0; }else{ int firstWay = makeChange(amount, currentCoin-1); int secondWay = makeChange(amount - availableCoins[currentCoin], currentCoin); return firstWay + secondWay; } } However, I'd like to add the capability to store or print each combination as they successfully return. I'm having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around how to do this. The original algorithm was pretty easy, but now I am frustrated. Any suggestions? CB

  • How can I find out if two arguments are instances of the same, but unknown class?

    - by Ingmar
Let us say we have a method which accepts two arguments o1 and o2 of type Object and returns a boolean value. I want this method to return true only when the arguments are instances of the same class, e.g.: foo(new Integer(4),new Integer(5)); Should return true, however: foo(new SomeClass(), new SubtypeSomeClass()); should return false and also: foo(new Integer(3),"zoo"); should return false. I believe one way is to compare the fully qualified class names: public boolean foo(Object o1, Object o2){ Class<? extends Object> c1 = o1.getClass(); Class<? extends Object> c2 = o2.getClass(); if(c1.getName().equals(c2.getName()){ return true;} return false; } An alternative conditional statement would be : if (c1.isAssignableFrom(c2) && c2.isAssignableFrom(c1)){ return true; } The latter alternative is rather slow. Are there other alternatives to this problem?

  • Using Hibernate with Dynamic Eclipse Plug-ins

    - by AlbertoPL
I have classes that are named exactly the same across different plug-ins that I use for my application, and I'd like to be able to configure them properly with Hibernate. The problem is that it looks like Hibernate dynamically generates a class' package name when trying to find a class when it's doing its mapping. With one plug-in this scheme works, but across multiple plug-ins it's not working. It looks like Hibernate gets confused when dealing with Hibernate configuration files across multiple plug-ins. Is this because each plug-in has its own class-loader? What is the best way to proceed to make this work with the existing plug-ins and Hibernate?

  • How can I give a variable to an action listener?

    - by Roman
I have a static variable partner in the class. And I want to set a value of these variable whenever a radio button is pressed. This is the code I tried to use: for (String playerName: players) { option = new JRadioButton(playerName, false); option.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){ @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { partner = playerName; } }); partnerSelectionPanel.add(option); group.add(option); } The problem here is that the actionPerformed does not see the variable playerName created in the loop. How can I pass this variable to the actionListener?

  • Setting Mnemonics and Hot Keys for a JOptionPane Dialog

    - by Daniel Bingham
Is it possible to assign hotkeys and mnemonics to the buttons in a JOptionPane Dialog? I'd like to be able, in a JOptionPane generated message dialog with the options Yes, No and Cancel, press Y to hit the Yes button, N to hit the No button and escape to activate the escape button. Similarly in a dialog with Okay and Cancel buttons I'd like to be able to activate them with enter and escape. I've attempted passing JButtons into the JOptionPane's button Object array with the Mnemonics set already. The mnemonics work and the buttons show up correctly in the dialogs, however, they do not act properly when they are activated. Most noticeably they do not dispose of the dialog. What is the correct way to add hotkeys and Mnemonics to a JOptionPane Dialog's buttons? As always, my apologies ahead of time if this is a duplicate - I searched both Google and Stackoverflow and found nothing.

  • Netbeans 7.2 won't open on OS X

    - by Mark van Wyk
I installed Netbeans on OSX Mountain Lion running JDK 7. Everything was working fine. Then my machine for no reason crashed. After this I could no longer open Netbeans anymore. If I try to start Netbeans from the commandline: /Applications/NetBeans/NetBeans 7.2.app/Contents/MacOS/netbeans Then it works fine. From there I can select Netbeans About and confirm that my userdir and cachedir is: User directory: /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/NetBeans/7.2 Cache directory: /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/NetBeans/7.2 So, I deleted these directories and tried again, but alas, I can only start netbeans via the commandline. Ideas appreciated...
