• Spring ResourceServlet throws too many open files exception in jetty and tomcat under linux

  I was running the petclinic example that was created with spring roo, also I test booking-mvc example that comes whit spring webflow 2.0.9 and the same happens, this is when I reload the main page many times.   I know both ie and firefox have limits for javascript execution here: hxxp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=175500 Based on number of statements executed, I heard it was 5 million somewhere in ie hxxp://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:_iKHhdfpN-MJ:kb.mozillazine.org/Dom.max_script_run_time+dom.max_script_run_time&hl=en&gl=ca&strip=1 (google cache since site takes forever to load for me) based on number of seconds in firefox, it's 10 seconds by default for my version The thing I don't get is what cases will go over these limits: I'm sure a giant loop will go over the limit for execution time But will an event hander go over the limit, if itself it's execution time is under the limit but if it occurs multiple times? Example: Lets say I have a timer on my page, that executes some javascript every 20 seconds. The execution time for the timer handler is 1 second. Does firefox and ie treat each call of the timer function seperatly, so it never goes over the limit, or is it that firefox/ie adds up the time of each call so after the handler finishes, so after 200 seconds on my site (with the timer called 10 times) an error occurs even though the timer handler itself is only 1 second long?

I have an http handler that listens in to the requests and does what it needs to do. Problems start when in the handler I need to access information stored in the page , from where the asynchronous call started. • Is it possible to have CommandManager requery only specific WPF command instead of all?

  I'm trying to implement a highly responsive UI for my MVVM application, so I've chosen to have all command handlers automatically execute in a BackgroundWorker so they don't block the UI. But at the same time, I don't want the user to be able to execute the same command while it is still executing in the background. The solution seems obvious: When Executed handler is invoked, have the CanExecute handler return false Start the BackgroundWorker async When BackgroundWorker finishes, have the CanExecute handler return true again. Problem is, I need to notify WPF after step 1 and again after step 3 that CanExecute has changed and that it should be required. I know I can do it by calling CommandManager.InvalidateRequerySuggested, but that causes CanExecute handlers of all other commands to be requeried as well. Having a lot of commands, that's not good. Is there a way to ask for requery of a specific command - i.e. the one that is currently being executed? TIA

  Normally in OpenRasta there is some configuration like this: ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<Customers>() .AtUri("/customers/region/{region}") ... // and so on ... where the {region} part of the path is automatically mapped to a string parameter in the handling method. So if the user hits: http://server/customers/region/emea Then the handler method is passed the string "emea". As well as doing this, I'd like to register a handler with something like this: ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<Customers>() .AtUri("/someotherthing/*") ... // and so on In this imaginary syntax, the asterisk would mean "take the rest of the path, including slashes, to be a single string parameter to pass to the handling method". And so if the user hits: http://server/someotherthing/how/about/this?that=other Then my handler method receives a string parameter: how/about/this?that=other Is such a thing possible in OpenRasta? In Sinatra (Ruby) I'd use a regular expression to do exactly this.

  Hello, I created a simple web application where a search form is filled out, submit button clicked, and a message is sent with the search parameters via nServiceBus. I also have a handler in the same project that picks up the message (from the same queue). For some reason, the web server process blocks until after the message is picked up, is there any reason for this? I set a breakpoint in the message handler and it breaks before the request finishes... locking the browser until I allow the code to continue. I would expect control to return to the browser regardless of when the handler gets fired... Thanks, D.Niemeyer

• Help needed with Javascript Variable Scope / OOP and Call Back Functions

  I think this issue goes beyond typical variable scope and closure stuff, or maybe I'm an idiot. Here goes anyway... I'm creating a bunch of objects on the fly in a jQuery plugin. The object look something like this function WedgePath(canvas){ this.targetCanvas = canvas; this.label; this.logLabel = function(){ console.log(this.label) } } the jQuery plugin looks something like this (function($) { $.fn.myPlugin = function() { return $(this).each(function() { // Create Wedge Objects for(var i = 1; i <= 30; i++){ var newWedge = new WedgePath(canvas); newWedge.label = "my_wedge_"+i; globalFunction(i, newWedge]); } }); } })(jQuery); So... the plugin creates a bunch of wedgeObjects, then calls 'globalFunction' for each one, passing in the latest WedgePath instance. Global function looks like this. function globalFunction(indicator_id, pWedge){ var targetWedge = pWedge; targetWedge.logLabel(); } What happens next is that the console logs each wedges label correctly. However, I need a bit more complexity inside globalFunction. So it actually looks like this... function globalFunction(indicator_id, pWedge){ var targetWedge = pWedge; someSql = "SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE id = ?"; dbInterface.executeSql(someSql, [indicator_id], function(transaction, result){ targetWedge.logLabel(); }) } There's a lot going on here so i'll explain. I'm using client side database storage (WebSQL i call it). 'dbInterface' an instance of a simple javascript object I created which handles the basics of interacting with a client side database [shown at the end of this question]. the executeSql method takes up to 4 arguments The SQL String an optional arguments array an optional onSuccess handler an optional onError handler (not used in this example) What I need to happen is: When the WebSQL query has completed, it takes some of that data and manipulates some attribute of a particular wedge. But, when I call 'logLabel' on an instance of WedgePath inside the onSuccess handler, I get the label of the very last instance of WedgePath that was created way back in the plugin code. Now I suspect that the problem lies in the var newWedge = new WedgePath(canvas); line. So I tried pushing each newWedge into an array, which I thought would prevent that line from replacing or overwriting the WedgePath instance at every iteration... wedgeArray = []; // Inside the plugin... for(var i = 1; i <= 30; i++){ var newWedge = new WedgePath(canvas); newWedge.label = "my_wedge_"+i; wedgeArray.push(newWedge); } for(var i = 0; i < wedgeArray.length; i++){ wedgeArray[i].logLabel() } But again, I get the last instance of WedgePath to be created. This is driving me nuts. I apologise for the length of the question but I wanted to be as clear as possible. • nested page-faulting of user-space address in Linux

  Hi, I would like to know if it is functionally wrong to page-fault a user-space address when kernel is running fault-handler to bring in a user-page. OS is Linux 2.6.30 Assume that both user-addresses are valid ( falling within vma , rw permission ) for the task. When I check the kernel code, i find that the kernel does not mind the nested fault if the faulted-addresses are valid and the fault did not occur in atomic-context or in irq handler. (I dont think the answer is cpu-specific, but I would add that i am interested in arm and mips ). eg : The scenario can happen if I print stack-data from page-fault handler. thanks shankar

  Hi, I just want advice on whether I could improve structure around a particular class which handles all disk access functions The structure of my program is that I have a class called Disk which gets data from flatfiles and databases on a, you guessed it, hard disk drive. I have functions like LoadTextFileToStringList, WriteStringToTextFile, DeleteLineInTextFile etc which are kind of "generic methods" In the same class I also have some more specific methods such as GetXFromDisk where X might be a particular field in a database table/query. Should I separate out the generic methods from the specialised. Should I make another class which inherits the generic methods. At the moment my class is static as there is no need to have an internal state of the class. I'm not really OOPing am I? Thanks Thomas

  I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is written. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions. See part of the code public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context){ File.WriteAllLines(context.Request.ApplicationPath+@"\"+"resul.log",new string[]{"Entered JPG Handler"}); If I put a breakpoint on the File.WriteAllLines statement and then step over it I can see an exception occurring.

• Translating external api results in Drupal

  We're building a multi-language Drupal stack and one of the concerns we have is that our payment processor is going to have to send back some information to us. We've been able to narrow this down so that the strings they're sending back look like <country code>-<number of months> so we can easily translate that into any number of languages, except English. t('FR-12') is all well and good if we want to translate that into a french description, but because there's not an English language a similar string like t('EN-12') is not translatable. Similarly for the generic string: #API_Connection_Error This sort of generic string approach seemed really compelling to me at first but it seems to not work in Drupal. Do you have any suggestions about how to translate generic strings like this into both English and other languages? Thank you, I've been looking through Google all morning.

• Prototype to JQuery - how to access originator of event

  Hi there I'm coming from a Prototype background and looking into JQuery. I'd like to know the 'right' way to do attach a click event to a bunch of elements, but then know in the event handler which one of my elements was clicked. I've come up with the following: MYNS.CarouselHelper.prototype.attachImgHandlers = function () { $j(".carouselItem").bind("click", this, function(e){ e.data.openCarouselImage(e) }); } I then have the following in my event handler: MYNS.CarouselHelper.prototype.openCarouselImage = function(e) { var img = e.currentTarget; // Do stuff to the image element }; Is this 'right'?   I’m building a WPF application using MVVM pattern (both are new technologies for me). I use user controls for simple bits of reusable functionality that doesn’t contain business logic, and MVVM pattern to build application logic. Suppose a view contains my user control that fires events, and I want to add an event handler to that event. That event handler should be in the view model of the view, because it contains business logic. The question is – view and the view model are connected only by binding; how do I connect an event handler using binding? Is it even possible (I suspect not)? If not – how should I handle events from a control in the view model? Maybe I should use commands or INotifyPropertyChanged?

• I get a 400 Bad Request error while using django-piston

  Hello, I am trying to use Piston to provide REST support to Django. I have implemented my handlers as per the documentation provided . The problem is that i can "read" and "delete" my resource but i cannot "create" or "update". Each time i hit the relevant api i get a 400 Bad request Error.
