  • NSIS - put EXE version into name of installer

    NSIS has a Name variable that you define in the script: Name "MyApp" It defines the name of the installer, that gets displayed as the window title, etc. Is there a way to pull the .NET Version number out of my main EXE and append it to the Name? So that my installer name would automatically be 'MyApp V2.2.0.0" or whatever?

    Hi I'm working on a project where I have code like the following: #define NAME() Array inline NAME()* NAME()_init (void* arg0){return (NAME()*)Object_init(arg0);} But I get the following result: inline Array* Array _init (void* arg0){return (Array*)Object_init(arg0);} With a space between the "Array" and the "_init" Because this is a function name, I obviously do not want the space.   • Why didn't 12.04 install?

    Ok, so I've installed Ubuntu many times on my computer.. Normally on the same partition, and WIndows would always delete Ubuntu(I don't know how.. it just happens) if i go away from keyboard during boot and it chooses Windows automatically because I took to long. So i tried to reinstall again, but after the fifth time it wouldn't let me, and told me to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". It took a while to find, but when i found it, I had no idea what any of it meant, as I'm no programmer.I first tried this the day Precise Pangolin came out. SO skip ahead 2.5 months, when I finally found this file, and i then got the idea of making a new partition to install Ubuntu on, but I used wubi, like I always did. It didn't look like it would f anything up, so I did it. it went through all the downloads, extracting, etc. Which took about 40 minutes total, then ended with an error message saying to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". i did.   • How do I install only the KDE desktop (and not apps) on Unity?

    My question is pretty simple. I have Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity and I want to login with KDE. I have seen recommendations to: 1- run the three commands: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop 2- run just the command: $ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop 3- run the command: $ sudo apt-get install kde-standard 4- run the command: $ sudo apt-get install kde-full 5- run the command: $ sudo apt-get install plasma-desktop 6- run the command: $ sudo apt-get install kde-plasma-desktop 7- etc ... This question is very related to this one, but the answer there is not clear enough to me. There seems to be quite a number of quasi-identical commands one could use to install the KDE desktop. I just want the desktop, no KDE apps since I'll just use the ones I'm already using in Unity. Of course I also want the needed repositories added so the KDE desktop will be kept updated. How would I go about doing that?

    A 2 part question: Are flow-charts, as tool to analyze source-code, no longer considered useful? The reason I ask this question is that if you Google for source-code to flowchart tools for Visual Studio, there are no relevant results. Also, Microsoft does not seem to have a tool for this purpose. Are people just not using flowcharts that much any more? (I find them to be a great way to document complex logic in my code). Are there any VS tools that can take .Net (C#, VB.Net) code and convert it to a flowchart? (The only tool that I found is Aviosto's Visustin, which does not provide VS integration). Any other tools that you can recommend for this purpose?

    Hi - I am searching for an XSLT or command-line tool (or C# code that can be made into a command-line tool, etc) for Windows that will do XML pretty-printing. Specifically, I want one that has the ability to put attributes one-to-a-line, something like: <Node> <ChildNode value1='5' value2='6' value3='happy' /> </Node> It doesn't have to be EXACTLY like that, but I want to use it for an XML file that has nodes with dozens of attributes and spreading them across multiple lines makes them easier to read, edit, and text-diff. NOTE: I think my preferred solution is an XSLT sheet I can pass through a C# method, though a Windows command-line tool is good too.

  • Internal/External Moodle - DNS

    Network diagram: I have a moodle (a VLE) setup that I want to be internally and externally accessible. The green route on the diagram below is the route I would like the traffic to take when the user is inside the LAN, and the red route is seemingly what it does take. The website has a domain name (like most websites do). From the User PC, if I ping the domain name, I get the internal IP of the webserver (because of a hosts file entry), if I nslookup the domain name I also get the internal IP of the webserver (because of an A record on my DNS server). Running the same two commands on the webserver gives me the webservers external IP. (going well so far) If I use PHPs gethostbyname() on the moodle website and use domain name as a parameter (getting php/apache to resolve the hostname) it returns the exernal IP of the webserver (good news, DNS seems to be doing what I want it to). All things so far seem to be going well. The only thing that is confusing me and preventing the moodle single sign on from working is the fact that if I get moodle to show my IP address, it says that it is an external one (outside my NATting firewall) when it should show an internal IP. This is the issue, any ideas on how to go about resolving this? Any ideas on tests I can perform (I have also tried a tracert and the request goes directly to the webserver), anything? Thanks all!

    I am working on an online portal, where researchers can upload their research papers. One requirement is, that all PDFs are stored in PDF/A-format. As I can't rely on the users to generate PDF/A conforming documents, I need a tool to check and convert standard PDFs into PDF/A format. What is the best tool you know of? Price Quality Speed Available APIs Open-source tools would be prefered, but a search revealed none. iText can create PDF/a, but converting isn't easy to do, as you have to read every page and copy it to a new document, losing all bookmarks and annotations in this process. (At least as far as I know, if you know of an easy solution, let me know). APIs should be available for either PHP, Java or a command-line-tool should be provided. Please do not list either GUI-only or Online-only solutions.

    I'm moving a site from one e-commerce software to another, and I've created URL Rewriter rules to do 301 redirects from the Old URLs to the new ones. I've tested them with a small sample of URLs, but I'm looking for some sort of tool that will let me test as many of the URLs as possible. Does anyone know of a tool that I can feed a list of URLs (or a sitemap.xml). This tool will attempt to retrieve each URL, and then report the status code for each. The result should be a list of URLs with the status code, something like this: www.site.com/oldurlformat1/ 301 Permanently Moved www.site.com/newurlformat1/ 200 OK www.site.com/oldurlformat2/ 301 Permanently Moved www.site.com/newurlformat2/ 200 OK I can almost do this with wget, but getting the summary/report at the end is where I'm stuck.

    Is there anything similar to netbean's Javadoc auto comment tool for PHP/phpDocumentor/Eclipse? In the netbeans implementation: A dialog pops up and allows you to run through all the members of your class and enter comments, which are added to the source file. It even verifies that there are no parameters you have not accounted for, so you can be sure that your comments are complete. Ideally this would be standalone software, but plugins are OK too :) p.s. netbeans 6+ auto comment was moved/renamed.   • How do I create a LiveUSB that lets me install any Ubuntu version?

    What I'd like to do: have Ubuntu installed on a USB drive and from there install any ubuntu version on a hdd. This is kinda different from using usb-creator because I'd like to have a persistent ubuntu install on the USB drive and not upgrade it every 6 months. From there I'd like to be able to install the most recent ubuntu version. I think it's just a matter of configuring ubiquity, but don't know if this is the case and how exactly do this. EDIT: Let's clarify the persistent thing: suppose I have my USB with ubuntu precise on it suppose quantal is out in the wild suppose that I want to install quantal on the hdd of a computer suppose that I want/can use only the USB drive with precise on it I should erase/upgrade precise on the USB drive to quantal and then install it on the hard drive I don't want to touch my ubuntu install on the USB drive, I'd like to be able to install the newer ubuntu version (quantal) on a hdd from another one (precise) on a USB drive I'd better avoid upgrading the installation on the hdd Hope this helps

    I was using Qt with C++ to develop my GUI applications, but I have recently switched to try out C# .NET as it is much easier to do what I need to. I was wondering what controls I need to be using for a few things and if they exist for C# .NET or if I need to do something custom/special. If you look in that screenshot, I want to do something similar to how they have each tool window grouped into its own docking area with the option of closing it or breaking it out of the layout so it can be dragged. I am talking about the tool windows titled "Groups", "Resources", "Tools", etc. I also want to make these tool windows stay in the same place when the main window is resized. Qt has spring like widgets that will let you create a UI that keeps its shape when the window is resized. Does anything like this exist in C# .NET?

    Hi all, I am trying to write an app that makes use of the external tools functionality of SQL Server Management Studio. To specify an external tool, you can enter a path to the app and specify some arguments to pass to the app via STDIN. Currently I just have a form that displays the arguments. Every time I run the external tool I get a new instance of the application. Ideally I would like for the first time I run the tool to load the application, and each subsequent running to take the arguments from STDIN and do something with them WITHOUT creating a new instance of the app. Is there anything I can do that could allow this, or am I stuck with lots of windows? Please convert the project by opening it in the Visual Studio IDE or running the conversion tool, or, for ".vcproj", use MSBuild to build the solution file conta ining the project instead.   • Seeking free ODBC database optimization tool for non-experts

    I'm a database n00b and am reading as many books as I can. I have been given responsibility for an ODBC tool where the databases were designed by a hardware engineer with some VB experience - which made him a s/w guru in the small firm at that time. Things are running slowly and I suspect that the db could have been designed better. I hope to learn enough to use Explain/Describe, etc maybe add some indices, but, in the meantime, is there any free for commercial use tool which can examine an ODBC database and suggest improvements. I'm just talking about db schema here, but maybe I should also be looking at optimizing Selects with Joins? Is there a tool for that? ODBC compliant.
