  I created a SQL server compact database (MyDatabase.sdf), and populated it with some data. I then ran SQLMetal.exe and generated a linq to sql class (MyDatabase.mdf) Now I'm trying to select all records from a table with a relatively straightforward select, and I get the error: "There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 3,Token line offset = 67,Token in error = MAX]" Here is my select code: public IEnumerable ListItems() { MyDatabase db_m = new MyDatabase("c:\mydatabase.sdf"); return this.db_m.TestTable.Select(test = new Item() { .... } } I've read that Linq to SQL works with Sql Compact, is there some other configuration I need to do?

• Slug ID's with the same name?

  I want to create slug URL's from a users title in my system. If a user types "The best way's to get slim; period!", then I want the slug to be "the-best-ways-to-get-slim-period". Also, if someone has already created a page with that title I want the slug to be "the-best-ways-to-get-slim-period-1". My question is how can I check the database before a record is created? Ok, obviously I am going to have to perform a check in the database, and then a write. That's 2 queries. Is this the normal way to do it? Also, are there any conventional regular expressions for filtering non alpha/number characters and replacing spaces with hyphens? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

• Microsoft SQL 2005 - using the modulo operator

  So I have a silly problem, I have not used much MSSQL before, or any SQL for that matter. I basically have a minor mathematical problem that I need solved, and I thought modulo would be good. I have a number of dates in the database, but I need them be rounded off to the closest [dynamic integer] (could be anything from 0 to 5000000) which will be input as a parameter each time this query is called. So I thought I'd use modulo to find the remainder, then subtract that remainder from the date. If there is a better way, or an integrated function, please let me know! What would be the syntax for that? I've tried a lot of things, but I keep getting error messages like integers/floats/decimals can't be used with the modulo operators. I tried casting to all kinds of numeric datatypes. Any help would be appreciated.

• Avoiding the Controller with Routing Rules in ASP.NET MVC

  I've created a website with ASP.NET MVC. I have a number of static pages that I am currently serving through a single controller called Home. This creates some rather ugly URLs. example.com/Home/About example.com/Home/ContactUs example.com/Home/Features You get the idea. I'd rather not have to create a controller for each one of these as the actions simply call the View with no model being passed in. Is there a way to write a routing rule that will remove the controller from the URL? I'd like it to look like: example.com/About example.com/ContactUs example.com/Features If not, how is this situation normally handled? I imagine I'm not the first person to run in to this.

• exception with Linq to SQL using sdf file

  Hi, I've set up a project with an SDF local database file and am trying to access it using an LINQ To SQL (".dbml") file. I have used the connection string provided by the sdf file and can instanciate the object with out a problem: thisDataContext = new MyDataContext(GetConnectionString()); However, whenever i try to access any information from it eg var collection = (from MyObject p in thisDataContext.MyTable select p); I get the error - "The table name is not valid. [ Token line number (if known) = 2,Token line offset (if known) = 14,Table name = Person ]" I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 .Net 3.5 and SQL 2008 CE. I gather something similar happened for SQL 2005 CE and a Hotfix was released, but i would have thought the fix would have been fixed in this version before release. Does anyone know the fix for this? Thanks

In the above case, if the log files are deleted by the user or any administrator even, the bandwidth calculation will not be possible. Q1: *What is the standard way to measure the Bandwidth for various Hosting accounts (of websites) on a single server?* Q2: *If Log parser mechanism (as described above) is used, then how to take care of the security issue? Is there some system directory or event viewer logs or something which cannot be deleted except by the System account and contains bandwidth data?* Please point me in the right direction. Thanks

  We have a WEb Service named, let's say Foo. So there is a Foo.svc file and a code behind Foo.svc.cs. We add a silverlight project and wish to use the Foo.svc services so we add a Service Reference and call it's namespace FooBar. This creates the following files : Reference.cs Reference.svcmap Foo.xsd Foo.disco configuration.svcinfo Foo.wsdl Also various *.datasource files. Over time we update the Foo.svc and add more Web Services (methods and interfaces) and the number of files in the FooBar directory is growing. I have 26 Foo(nn).xsd files in this directory - where nn = 1 to 26. My configuration.svcinfo is upto configuration91.svcinfo. My question is this? Do any of these files need to be version controlled? Can they all be deleted each time you do a build \ deploy (as long as you do an update service reference)?

  Folks, the problem: there are individual 1MB images that represent a grid of images that should be placed side-by-side with no overlap and then conveted/exported to deepzoom. Image are named by row and column like image_col_row.jpg. The challenge: the total number of images in thousands, which makes it prohibitive for manual composition and exporting in DZC. I tried to first stitch images programmaticall into one huge image, then to use DZC - no luck cause the exporting chocked with the size. if you tried programmaticall compose and export deepzoom, please point me into the right direction. I want to perform the inverse: creation of a string from an integer. i.e. I want some function int2base(num,base) such that: int( int2base( X , BASE ) , BASE ) == X the function name/argument order is unimportant For any number X and base BASE that int() will accept. This is an easy function to write -- in fact easier than describing it in this question -- however, I feel like I must be missing something.   I have some data I am querying. The table is composed of two columns - a unique ID, and a value. I would like to count the number of times each unique value appears (which can easily be done with a COUNT and GROUP BY), but I then want to be able to count that. So, I would like to see how many items appear twice, three times, etc. So for the following data (ID, val)... 1, 2 2, 2 3, 1 4, 2 5, 1 6, 7 7, 1 The intermediate step would be (val, count)... 1, 3 2, 3 7, 1 And I would like to have(count_from_above, new_count)... 3, 2 -- since three appears twice in the previous table 1, 1 -- since one appears once in the previous table Is there any query which can do that? If it helps, I'm working with Postgres. Thanks!

  Database server: SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 - SP3 - Standard Edition I have a table with 5 columns, in which I want to add a large (300.000) number of records. There is a unique index on the combination of two columns. If I add the records with this unique index in place, SQL Server gives this error message: Msg 2601, Level 14, State 3, Line 1 Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'TESTTABLE' with unique index 'test'. The statement has been terminated. (0 row(s) affected) However, if I delete the unique index and then add the records, I do not get any error when I create this unique index afterwards.

  Hello We have a ASP .Net application whereby we use Log4Net to log details within the app - nothing new there - and the rolling log filenames are in the usual format of: rolling-log.txt rolling-log.txt.1 rolling-log.txt.2 etc. A each user of the application adds to the logfile, the logfile can be difficult to read for a specific user's case and so, we'd like to modify the config file somehow to record the user's log details individually, each writing to a specific file, e.g. <applicationId>rolling-log.txt <applicationId>rolling-log.txt.1 <applicationId>rolling-log.txt.2 etc. where is each user's unique application Id, made up of a five digit number, e.g. 12345rolling-log.txt Any ideas on the best way to implement this, assuming that it's possible? • How do you prevent file confusion if version-control keywords are forbidden?

  At least two brilliant programmers, Linus Torvalds and Guido von Rossum, disparage the practice of putting keywords into a file that expand to show the version number, last author, etc. I know how keyword differences clutter up diffs. One of the reasons I like SlickEdit's DiffZilla is because it can be set to skip leading comments. However, I have vivid memories of team-programming where we had four versions of a file (two different releases, a customer one-off, and the development version) all open for patching at the same time, and was quite helpful to verify with a glance that each time we navigated to an included header we got the proper one, and each time we pasted code the source and destination were what we expected. There is also the where-did-this-file-come-from problem that arises when a hasty developer copies a file from one place to another using the file system, rather than checking it out of the repository using the tool; or, more defensibly, when files under control in locations A, B, and C need to be marshalled (with cherry-picking) into a distribution location D. In places where VCS keywords are banned, how do you cope?

  I have a bipartite graph. I am looking for a maximum (1,n) "matching", which means that each vertex from partitation A has n associated vertices from partition B. The following figure shows a maximum (1,3) matching in a graph. Edges selected for the matching are red and unselected edges are black. This differs from the standard bipartite matching problem where each vertex is associate with only one other vertex, which could be called (1,1) matching with this notation. If the matching cardinality (n) is not enforced but is an upper bound (vertices from A can have 0 < x <= n associated vertices from B), then the maximum matching can be found easily by transforming the graph to a flow network and finding the max flow. However, this does not guarantee that the maximum number of vertices from A will have n associated pairs from B.

• Boost.Program_Options not working with short options

  I have the following options_description: po::options_description config("Configuration File or Command Line"); config.add_options() ("run-time,t", po::value(&runTime_)-default_value(1440.0), "set max simulation duration") ("starting-iteration,i", po::value(&startingIteration_)-default_value(1), "set starting simulation iteration") ("repetitions,r", po::value(&repetitions_)-default_value(100), "set number of iterations") ... ; As you can see the three shown have a long,short names employed. The long versions all work. However, none of the short ones do, and each time I try a -t 12345.0 or a -i 12345, etc., I get the following from Program_Options: std::logic_error: in option 'starting-iteration': invalid option value I'm using Boost 1.42 on Win32. Any thoughts on what might be going on here? Thanks!

• Bulk import 301 redirects in IIS 6.0

  Is there a mechanism, or any additional tools that I can make use of to bulk import 301 redirect rules into an IIS6.0 web application? I want to be able to 301 redirect some old .htm pages to their new home on a CMS to ensure the current search index entries resolve OK and don't 404, but there are roughly ~50 pages. The only way I've found to achieve this is to create dummy .htm files and then right click on the file-File tab-Redirect to a URL radio button within the IIS MMC snapin, which is a little laborious over the number of pages.
