  • Comparing an array of users to an array of structs with user object as attribute, and returning matc

    - by keruilin
I have an array of users who are friends. Let us call this array: friends I then have an array of structs. Each struct has a user object as an attribute (it also has a rank attribute). Here's what the struct class looks like, to add some context: class Leader < Struct.new(:rank, :user); end Let us call this array of structs: all_leaders_plus_rank I want to compare friends and all_leaders_plus_rank, and add the match from all_leaders_plus_rank to a new array of structs called friendly_leaders.

  • Removing "duplicate objects"

    - by keruilin
Let's say I have an array of objects from the same class, with two attributes of concern here: name and created_at. How do I find objects with the same name (considered dups) in the array, and then delete the duplicate record in the database. The object with the most-recent created_at date, however, is the one that must be deleted.

  • PHP Undefined index - Occuring when the variable has a value in it

    - by Adam
I have the following code that is being used to successfully upload images: $fileName = $_FILES['file']['name']; $fileSize = $_FILES['file']['size']; $fileType = $_FILES['file']['type']; $fileTmp = $_FILES['file']['tmp_name']; list($origWidth, $origHeight) = getimagesize($fileTmp); The catch is I'm getting an 'Undefined index' on each line. I have print_r($_FILES) just before this code and each array variable exists and I've echo out varibles like $fileName and can see each has a value. Also I have put this before this code block and it makes no difference: $fileName = $fileSize = $fileType = $fileTmp = ''; Any suggestions how I can ensure these variables are defined? thankyou

  • Data transformation question

    - by tkm
I have data composed of a list of employers and a list of workers. Each has a many-to-many relationship with the other (so an employer can have many workers, and a worker can have many employers). The way the data is retrieved (and given to me) is as follows: each employer has an array of workers. In other words: employer n has: worker x, worker y etc. So I have a bunch of employer objects each containing an array of workers. I need to transform this data (and basically invert the relationship). I need to have a bunch of worker objects, each containing and array of employers. In other words: worker x has: employer n1, employer n2 etc. The context is hypothetical so please don't comment on why I need this or why I am doing it this way. I would really just like help on the algorithm to perform this transformation (there isn't that much data so I would prefer readability over complex optimizations which reduce complexity). (Oh and I am using Java, but pseudocode would be fine). Thanks!

  • Make array from $_POST values

    - by cbarg
Let's start telling that I'm passing an x amount of variables via post from a form. Let's name them menu_category_1, menu_category_2, ..., menu_category_x, plus, maybe, menu_category_new (I'm using an if empty to check this last one variable). To make things easier I'm also sending the parameter $key (amount of variables starting from 0). Now I need to set them into a new variable $menu_category (array), which is going to be imploded and then update my database. How do I set up that new $menu_category variable to be an array containing all my variables named in the beginning? I was thinking of using a for loop but I can't come up with something useful. Thanks!!!

  • How do I create this array? (PHP)

    - by jpjp
I am a little stuck on how to create this array. My data: category_id | category_name 1 bikes 2 cars 3 books 4 computers Array: $category=array(); $query = "SELECT * FROM categories ORDER BY name ASC"; $result = $db->query($query); $category=array('category_id'=>$category_id, 'category_name'=>$category_name); while ($row = $result->fetch_array()){ $category_id=$row['category_id']; $category_name=$row['name']; } I want to create an array so that I can echo the data in a radio list like... <input type='radio' value='<?PHP echo $category['category_id']; ?>' name='category[]'><?PHP echo $category['category_name']; ?> o bikes o cars o books o computers The problem is that the array only consists of one pair (1, bikes) and not all the data. How can I make an array with all the data? Thanks!

  • Problem with Javascript object and accessing property which exists

    - by Newbie
I have something like this: var test = {}; function blah() { test[2] = 'filled'; } console.log(test); //result test -> 2:"filled" console.log(test[2]); //result undefined I don't understand why I'm getting 'undefined' in the second instance when according to the first instance, the property of that object clearly exists! Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  • A loop (while/foreach) with "offset" wrapping and

    - by DarkGhostHunter
After applying what wrapping objects using math operator, I just tought it will be over. But no. By far. <?php $faces= array( 1 => '<div class="block">happy</div>', 2 => '<div class="block">sad</div>', (sic) 21 => '<div class="block">angry</div>' ); $i = 1; foreach ($faces as $face) { echo $face; if ($i == 3) echo '<div class="block">This is and ad</div>'; if ($i % 3 == 0) { echo "<br />"; // or some other wrapping thing } $i++; } ?> In the code I have to put and ad after the second one, becoming by that the third object. And then wrap the three all in a <div class="row"> (a br after won't work out by design reasons). I thought I will going back to applying a switch, but if somebody put more elements in the array that the switch can properly wrap, the last two remaining elements are wrapped openly. Can i add the "ad" to the array in the third position? That would make things simplier, only leaving me with guessing how to wrap the first and the third, the fourth and the sixth, an so on.

  • Which of these Array Initializations is better in Ruby?

    - by Bragaadeesh
Hi, Which of these two forms of Array Initialization is better in Ruby? Method 1: DAYS_IN_A_WEEK = (0..6).to_a HOURS_IN_A_DAY = (0..23).to_a @data = Array.new(DAYS_IN_A_WEEK.size).map!{ Array.new(HOURS_IN_A_DAY.size) } DAYS_IN_A_WEEK.each do |day| HOURS_IN_A_DAY.each do |hour| @data[day][hour] = 'something' end end Method 2: DAYS_IN_A_WEEK = (0..6).to_a HOURS_IN_A_DAY = (0..23).to_a @data = {} DAYS_IN_A_WEEK.each do |day| HOURS_IN_A_DAY.each do |hour| @data[day] ||= {} @data[day][hour] = 'something' end end The difference between the first method and the second method is that the second one does not allocate memory initially. I feel the second one is a bit inferior when it comes to performance due to the numerous amount of Array copies that has to happen. However, it is not straight forward in Ruby to find what is happening. So, if someone can explain me which is better, it would be really great! Thanks

  • Creating an array from a MySQL table

    - by Rob
I'm trying to create an array to use for a curl_multi_exec, but I can't seem to create the array properly. Here is my code: $SQL = mysql_query("SELECT url FROM urls") or die(mysql_error()); //Query the shell table while($resultSet = mysql_fetch_array($SQL)){ $urls[]=$resultSet; } echo $urls; //Test that the array works But when I run this script, all it does is echo "Array" I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, I've checked around google a bit, but can't figure it out. Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Calculate sum of objects for each unique object property in Ruby

    - by macek
I was helping with an answer in this question and it sparked a question of my own. Pie is an object that has a pieces array made of of PiePiece objects. Each PiePiece has a flavor attribute How do I create a hash that looks like this: # flavor => number of pieces { :cherry => 3 :apple => 1 :strawberry => 2 } This works, but I think it could be improved def inventory hash = {} pieces.each do |p| hash[p.flavor] ||= 0 hash[p.flavor] += 1 end hash end Any ideas?

  • Doubt regarding usage of array as a pointer in C

    - by Som
For eg. I have an array of structs 'a' as below: struct mystruct{ int b int num; }; struct bigger_struct { struct my_struct a[10]; } struct bigger_struct *some_var; i know that the name of an array when used as a value implicitly refers to the address of the first element of the array.(Which is how the array subscript operator works at-least) Can i know do the other way around i.e if i do: some_var->a->b, it should be equivalent to some_var->a[0]->b, am i right? I have tested this and it seems to work , but is this semantically 100% correct?

  • Convert complex numerical array to associative array [PHP]

    - by user1500412
    I have an array data that look like this : Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => Name: [1] => John W. [2] => Registration ID: [3] => 36 ) [1] => Array ( [0] =>Age: [1] => 35 [2] => Height: [3] => 5'11" ) [3] => Array ( [0] => Sex: [1] => M [2] => Weight: [3] => 200lbs ) [4] => Array ( [0] => Address ) [5] => Array ( [0] => 6824 crestwood dr delphi, IN 46923 )) And I want to convert it to associative array like this : Array( ['Name']=> John W. ['Registration ID']=> 36 ['Age']=> 35 ['Height'] => 5'11'' ['Sex']=>M ['Weight']=>200lbs ['Address']=>6824 crestwood dr delphi, IN 46923 ) I have no idea at all how to do this, since the supposed to be array column header were also in sequence, so it makes difficult to convert this array. Any help I appreciate, thx.
