  • On a local network, are you able to password protect certain folders and how (in windows xp)?

    - by Derek
I have a local network set up for my small office which consists of me, the manager, my wife, the secretary, and a few sales people/others. I would like to share passwords over the network and other such things privately to my wife, the secretary, but would not like the sales people and others to have access to it, yet I need the others to have access to other folders/documents that I'd like to share. How would I go about doing this if not by password? Thanks in advance

  • Languages for implementing decision trees

    - by Shailesh Tainwala
What would be a good choice of programming language in which to implement a decision tree? The results of the implementation will be for personal use only, so no need to consider ability to publish etc. I have heard that Octave is a good option, can anyone explain why a matrix based language is recommended for implementing decision trees?

  • Does Lua support Unicode?

    - by TimK
Based on the link below, I'm confused as to whether the Lua programming language supports Unicode. http://lua-users.org/wiki/LuaUnicode It appears it does but has limitations. I simply don't understand, are the limitation anything big/key or not a big deal?

  • The simplest concurrency pattern

    - by Ilya Kogan
Please, would you help me in reminding me of one of the simplest parallel programming techniques. How do I do the following in C#: Initial state: semaphore counter = 0 Thread 1: // Block until semaphore is signalled semaphore.Wait(); // wait until semaphore counter is 1 Thread 2: // Allow thread 1 to run: semaphore.Signal(); // increments from 0 to 1 It's not a mutex because there is no critical section, or rather you can say there is an infinite critical section. So what is it?

  • I want to trace logs using a Macro multi parameter always null. problem c++ windows

    - by sxingfeng
I am using the following way to cout a function's time: #define TIME_COST(message, ...)\ char szMessageBuffer[2048] = {0};\ va_list ArgList;\ va_start(ArgList, message);\ vsprintf_s(szMessageBuffer, 2048, message, ArgList);\ va_end(ArgList); \ string strMessage(szMessageBuffer);\ CQLogTimer t(strMessage); // CQLogTimer is a self destructor, which will cout life time of its own and print szMessageBuffer. However when I use the macro this : void fun { TIME_COST("hello->%s", filePath); XXXXXX } The message generated always is hello-(null) Can Any one help? Many thanks!

  • When using SQL Compact on Windows Mobile, do you store the sdf file on a storage card?

    - by Michal Drozdowicz
Having had some Sql Compact db corruption issues in the past and gone through the article on these, I got the idea that storing the database sdf file on a storage card significantly increases the risk of data loss due to db corruption. Do you store the sdf file on a storage card? Have you had any issues caused by it? What should I pay attention to when recommending a particular brand or model of an SD card wrt the stability and security for use with SQL Compact?

  • Manually force touch points to reset in Windows 8?

    - by loyalpenguin
Hi I developed a HTML5/JAVASCRIPT app that is supported using advertisement for the Win8 store. I just by chance happened to notice that if you touch the screen, drag your finger over the advertisement, and release your finger on top of the advertisement that the specific touch is not released and instead when you touch again it registers as a separate touch. This has caused my app to behave expectantly when the user interacts with the app using touch. I wanted to know if it was possible to force the touches to reset so that when the user touches the screen again it is always using "Touch(0)".

  • How do you do masked password entry on windows using character overwriting?

    - by Erick
Currently I am using this implementation to hide user input during password entry: void setEcho(bool enable) { HANDLE hStdin = GetStdHandle(STD_INPUT_HANDLE); DWORD mode; GetConsoleMode(hStdin, &mode); if(enable) { mode |= ENABLE_ECHO_INPUT; } else { mode &= ~ENABLE_ECHO_INPUT; } SetConsoleMode(hStdin, mode); } The user needs to be able to have positive feed back that text entry is being made. What techniques are available in a Win32 environment using C++?

  • Why is it so hard to build a gtk programe without console using gtk in windows?

    - by Runner
I'm following the tuto: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/firstprograms/ It works but each time I double click on the executable, there is a console which I don't want it there. How do I get rid of that console? I tried this: add_executable(Cmd WIN32 cmd.c) But got this fatal error: MSVCRTD.lib(crtexew.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WinMain@16 referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup Cmd.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals While using gcc directly works: gcc -o Cmd cmd.c -mwindows .. I'm guessing it has something to do with the entry function: int main( int argc, char *argv[]),but why gcc works? How can I make it work with cmake?

  • What is Chain Matrix Multiplication ?

    - by Hellnar
Hello, I am trying to understand what is a chain matrix multiplication and how it is different from a regular multiplication. I have checked several sourcers yet all seem to be very academically explained for me to understand. I guess it is a form of dynamic programming algorithm to achieve the operation in an optimised way but I didn't go any further. Thanks

  • How do I link gtk library more easily with cmake in windows?

    - by Runner
    I'm now doing it in a very ugly way by manually including all the required path(the gtk bundle is at D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32): include_directories(D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/include/gtk-2.0 D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/include/glib-2.0 D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/lib/glib-2.0/include D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/include/cairo D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/include/pango-1.0 D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/lib/gtk-2.0/include D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/include/atk-1.0) link_directories(D:/Tools/gtk+-bundle_2.20.0-20100406_win32/lib) target_link_libraries(MyProgram gtk-win32-2.0.lib)

  • Unable to debug ASP.NET Applicatation using VS 2008 on IIS 7 running on Windows 7 x64

    - by rsteckly
Hi, I've been trying to debug an existing asp.net web application that requires me to debug against an IIS website. I've installed the app and can navigate to it on localhost. However, when I start VS 2008 as an Administrator and try to debug it, I get a message "Unable to start debugging on the web server. The IIS worker process for the launched URL is not currently running." I've looked through some of the help file contents and can't seem to figure out what is going on. Clearly, the IIS worker process IS running, since I can navigate to the site locally without VS open. My boss has suggested that it might be because my OS is 64 bit. Any ideas?

  • Explain Type Classes in Haskell

    - by Tsubasa Gomamoto
Hi, I am a C++ / Java programmer and the main paradigm I happen to use in everyday programming is OOP. In some thread I read a comment that Type classes are more intuitive in nature than OOP. Can someone explain the concept of type classes in simple words so that an OOP guy like me can understand it?
