• Rails3 and Paperclip

  Hi, I have migrated my application from rails 2.3 to rails3 and i have a problem with paperclip. I saw there was a branch for rails3 on paperclip git. So I added "gem 'paperclip', :git = 'git://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip.git', :branch = 'rails3'" into the Gemfile and launch the command bundle install. Once paperclip installed, the upload worked fine but not the styles. I saw a hack to fix it. # in lib/paperclip/attachment.rb at line 293 def callback which #:nodoc: # replace this line... # instance.run_callbacks(which, @queued_for_write){|result,obj| result == false } # with this: instance.run_callbacks(which, @queued_for_write) end The styles are ok after that, but i'm not able to active the processor. ["800x600>", "300x300>"].include?(@target_geometry.to_s) end end end My problem is that i got this error message : uninitialized constant Paperclip::Cropper The cropped processor is not loaded. Is anybody has an idea to fix that ? For information my application works fine on rails 2.3.4.

• Problem loading Oracle client libraries when running in a NAnt build

  I am trying to use dbdeploy to manage Oracle schema changes. I can run it successfully from the command line to get it to generate my change scripts, but when I try to execute it via the dbdeploy NAnt task running through TeamCity, I get an error: System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater. I do have the Oracle 10.2.0.2 client software installed. It's the first entry in the system path, and the dbdeploy.exe app is able to successfully negotiate an Oracle connection. The dbdeploy code dynamically loads the System.Data.OracleClient assembly, which in-turn tries to use the Oracle client bits to talk to the database. This is what is failing in my NAnt environment. • How can I change the UI language of QT Creator 1.3.1?

  I just downloaded and installed QT Creator 1.3.1 on my english Windows 7 system from the english download site at http://qt.nokia.com/downloads Apparently, however, the UI of QT Creator is in German language, although the help files are in English. From the FAQ at http://www.qt.gitorious.org/qt-creator/pages/FrequentlyAskedQuestions I found the answer Qt Creator uses the language setting of the system it runs on. On Linux systems you can also override that language by setting the LANG environment variable prior to starting Qt Creator, e.g. on the command line LANG=de ./qtcreator will run Qt Creator with german interface. This, however, is apparently not correct, as I have an English Windows, and as system locale I have "English (United Kingdom)" set. Possibly QT Creator interprets mistakenly the Windows settings for "current location", which I have set to "Germany" to mean that German would also be my language. However, changing that value had apparently no effect (maybe it should have been done before installing QT Creator). Is there any way to change the UI language of QT creator to english after installing it, preferrably without adjusting global system settings?

• Suppress "No Source Available" pane in 2010

  Arg! I have a custom "harness" executable running my class library project. Every time I step into the harness's code, I get that "No Source Available" pane popping up. As I know there is no source available, and that this is completely expected, I don't want this very intrusive and useless pane popping up every time. How can I suppress it completely? I can make it smaller at least by making that window part of another smaller pane-set, such as with the watches/locals. It remembers its location from run to run, but its still useless. There might be a more general answer to this question - how can I suppress any particular pane/window from showing at all? I have a VSX package, originally built for VS 2008 (and must keep that compatibility) but I just don't know what command to run to do it. (I had the package commissioned, so I have the source, but not the know-how. This seems like a one/two liner). Thanks!

• MSDeploy migrate only configuration from IIS 6 to 7

  We have 19 websites, many of which have many "virtual" directories, on a IIS 6 server. I am trying to migrate the whole thing over to IIS 7 on a different server. Following the instructions on http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/427/migrate-a-web-site-from-iis-60-to-iis-70/ I attempted the following command line execution: msdeploy -verb:sync -source:metakey=lm/w3svc -dest:package=D:\Temp\Sites.zip > D:\temp\WebDeployPackage.log It appeared to be working until I got a "There is not enough space on the disk" error. The D drive, which you'll notice is the target location for the package and the log has plenty of space (all the resources for the websites are about 5gb, the drive has 200+). Though the C drive is of limited size (6Gb), so that might be the problem. Anyway, I figure the best bet was to try and do a migration of settings/configurations only, not the actual resources. We can easily deploy the resources to the new server with our NAnt build scripts, so that's not an issue. Getting all the correct configurations moved over, however, would be challenging to do manually. So, is there a way to export/package only the configuration/options of the IIS 6 server using msdeploy (or any other tool?)

• Why doesn't Data Driven Subscription in SSRS 2005 like my Stored Procedure?

  I'm trying to define a Data Driven Subscription for a report in SSRS 2005. In Step 3 of the set up you're asked for: " a command or query that returns a list of recipients and optionally returns fields used to vary delivery settings and report parameter values for each recipient" This I have written and it returns the data without a hitch. I press next and it rolls onto the next screen in the set up which has all the variables to set for the DDS and in each case it has an option to "Select Value From Database" I select this radio button and press the drop down. No fields are available to me. Now the only way I could vary the number of parameters returned by the SP was to have the SP write the SQL to an nvarchar variable and then at the end execute the variable as sql. I have tested this in the Management Studio and it returns the expected fields. I even named them after the fields in SSRS but the thing won't put the field names into the dropdowns. I've even taken the query body out of the Stored Proc, verified it in SSRS and then tried that. It doesn't work either. Can anyone shed any light into what I'm doing wrong?

  I have a collection of webapps that are running under tomcat. Tomcat is configured to have as much as 2 GB of memory using the -Xmx argument. Many of the webapps need to perform a task that ends up making use of the following code: Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime(); Process process = runtime.exec(command); process.waitFor(); ... The issue we are having is related to the way that this "child-process" is getting created on Linux (Redhat 4.4 and Centos 5.4). It's my understanding that an amount of memory equal to the amount tomcat is using needs to be free in the pool of physical (non-swap) system memory initially for this child process to be created. When we don't have enough free physical memory, we are getting this: java.io.IOException: error=12, Cannot allocate memory at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(ProcessImpl.java:65) at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:452) ... 28 more My questions are: 1) Is it possible to remove the requirement for an amount of memory equal to the parent process being free in the physical memory? I'm looking for an answer that allows me to specify how much memory the child process gets or to allow java on linux to access swap memory. 2) What are the alternatives to Runtime.getRuntime().exec() if no solution to #1 exists? I could only think of two, neither of which is very desirable. JNI (very un-desirable) or rewriting the program we are calling in java and making it it's own process that the webapp communicates with somehow. There has to be others. 3) Is there another side to this problem that I'm not seeing that could potentially fix it? Lowering the amount of memory used by tomcat is not an option. Increasing the memory on the server is always an option, but seems like more a band-aid. Servers are running java 6.

  I have created an installer for MyProgram using the Visual Studio Installer (Visual Studio Setup Project). It is called "MyProgram Setup.msi". It installs the program fine and if it is uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs control panel then everything gets removed as it should. The problem is that I want to add a shortcut to the "User's Programs Menu" under the program shortcut called "Uninstall MyProgram". I have tried doing this in 3 different ways and in all 3 ways if MyProgram is uninstalled using that shortcut, the uninstall will leave behind 2 empty folders ("...Program Files\MyCompany\" and "...Program Files\MyCompany\MyProgram\"). Here are the 3 ways that I have tried to make an uninstaller shortcut: 1) A shortcut to a batch or script file Uninstall MyProgram.bat: @ECHO OFF msiexec /uninstall {MyGUID} Uninstall MyProgram.vbs: Dim objShell Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") objShell.Run("START /B msiexec /uninstall {MyGUID}") Set objShell = Nothing 2) Editing the MSI file using Orca.exe I found out how to do this using this guide: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/install/MSIShortcuts.aspx I added the Shortcut Entry to the Shortcut table. Uninstalling worked but it still left behind the 2 empty folders when using this shortcut. 3) From code within MyProgram.exe I modified MyProgram.exe to take a "/uninstall" command line parameter to run "msiexec.exe /uninstall {MyGUID}" and exit itself. Similar to this solution: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/install/DeployUninstall.aspx None of these attempts created a shortcut which can uninstall the program as well as the program's base folders. I don't want to switch to some other installer product such as Inno Setup, NSIS, or WiX.

• How to control the download url for dotNetFx35setup.exe without using the Visual Studio bootstrapper

  Previously I've used to Visual Studio 2008 setup.bin to generate a bootstrapper. I had some issues with it which were difficult to resolve and turned to dotNetInstaller. One great thing with the VS 2008 generated bootstrapper, was that I was able to control the download location for the .NET framework. By using the MSBuild task I could specify the componentsLocation: <GenerateBootstrapper ApplicationFile="$(TargetFileName)" ApplicationName="MyApp" ApplicationUrl="http://$(InstallerHost)$(DownloadUrl)" BootstrapperItems="@(BootstrapperFile)" CopyComponents="True" ComponentsLocation="Relative" OutputPath="$(OutputPath)" Path="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\" /> Here I'm able to use the ComponentsLocation="Relative" and the bootstrapper would download from our own web server - which is what I want. When I no longer have the VS 2008 bootstrapper, I would like to have the same feature. The new boostrapper downloads the dotNetFx35setup.exe from a defined server, but the problem is that this ".NET bootstrapper" connects to Microsoft's servers for downloading the needed packages. Trying to run the following command: dotNetFx35setup.exe /? did not show any options to control the download location. The web server will contain the package structure which the Windows SDK (v6.0A) has within the Bootstrapper\Packages directory. The structure looks like this: Packages DotNetFX DotNetFX30 DotNetFX35 DotNetFx35Client DotNetFx35SP1 ..... When I state a dependency to the .NET Framework 3.5, the DotNetFX35 directory structure gets copied into the bin/Debug directory. I've copied this directory onto the web server and it looks like this: DotNetFX35 dotNetFX20 dotNetFX30 dotNetFX35 x64 netfx35_x64.exe x86 netfx35_x86.exe dotNetMSP dotNetFx35setup.exe The other directories contains mainly MSI, MSP and MSU files. So any pointers on how to control downloading of the .NET framework. Shouldn't I use the dotNetFx35setup.exe file? If not - which should I use?

  Hi! I have a OdbcDataReader that gets data from a database and returns a set of records. The code that executes the query looks as follows: OdbcDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { yield return reader.AsMovexProduct(); } The method returns an IEnumerable of a custom type (MovexProduct). • how to convert bitmap image to CIELab image?

  Hello to stackoverflow members! This is my first post but I love reading the questions and answers on this forum! I'm using VS2008, CSharp, NET 3.5 and Windows XP Pro latest patches on this project. I am reading in a jpeg file to a bitmap image using CSharp in the following way: Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap("background.jpg"); Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); I then write some text and logos on g using various DrawString and DrawImage commands. I then want to write this bitmap to a tiff file using the command: bmp.Save("final_artwork.tif", ImageFormat.Tiff); I don't know what the TIFF tags in the header of the final resultant TIFF file will be when you do bmp.Save as shown above? But what I want to produce is a TIFF image file with PHOTOMETRIC CIELab, BITSPERSAMPLE 8, SAMPLESPERPIXEL 3, FILLORDER MSB2LSB, ORIENTATION TOPLEFT, PLANARCONFIG CONTIG, and also uncompressed and singlestrip. Im fairly certain, at least I have not found anything about Microsoft API and CIELab, I can not convert the bitmap image to CIELab photometric and the other requirements using anything from the Microsoft API or .NET 3.5 environment - someone please correct if I am wrong. I have used libtiff in a project in the past but just to write a tiff file where the tiff image in memory was already in CIELab format and all the other requirements as noted per above. Im not certain libtiff can convert from my CSharp bitmap image, which is probably RGB photometric, to CIELab, 8 bps, and 3 spp? Maybe I can use OpenCVImage or Emgu CV or something similiar? So the main question is what is going to be the easiest way to get my final bitmap image as outlined above into a CIELab TIFF and also meeting the other requirements per above?   I want to remove rectangles etc that enclose text in a screenshot image, so that I can perform optical character recognition to get accurate text from the screenshot. Background: I doing this to extract data from a legacy application for use with other applications. This is the only way to get at this data as associated files are in a closed, proprietary, binary format. I will be using AutoItScript to drive the application to show data in its UI, then I will screenshot this and feed this to tesseract. I've already had some success in automating the UI, and have been able to use tesseract to get plain ascii text out of the bitmap. There are several AutoItScripr forum articles discussing its use with tesseract/OCR but not specifically for my question. http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?s=6c32c3ece12756e635a619cdf175eff9&showforum=2 What I need to do There are thin, 1-pixel wide rectangles that closely enclose some text, when fed to tesseract, it sees them as I for example for a verticle line of the rectangle. Any thoughts on how to remove the rectangles, or best practices? I'm asking if there is a generic command line based toolset to overwrite rectangles, for example, in .png files. I could then pass the .png through this, then pass it to tesseract.   I am trying to capture screenshots on test failure using selenium-client and rspec. • Error creating Rails DB using rake db:create

  Hi- I'm attempting to get my first "hello world" rails example going using the rails' getting started guide on my OSX 10.6.3 box.
