  • Apache Simple Configuration Issue: Setting up per-user directory permission denied problem

    Hello. I am just getting Apache 2.2 running on Fedora 13 Beta 64-bit. I am running into issues setting my per-user directory. The goal is to make localhost/~user map to /home/~user/public_html. I think that I have the permissions right because I have 755 to /home/~user, and I have 755 to /home/~user/public_html/ and I have 777 for all contents inside of /home/~user/public_html/ recursively set. My mod_userdir configuration looks like this: <IfModule mod_userdir.c> # # UserDir is disabled by default since it can confirm the presence # of a username on the system (depending on home directory # permissions). # UserDir disabled root UserDir enabled huckphin # # To enable requests to /~user/ to serve the user's public_html # directory, remove the "UserDir disabled" line above, and uncomment # the following line instead: # UserDir public_html The error that I am seeing in the error log is this: [Sat May 15 09:54:29 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /~huckphin/index.html denied When I login as the apache user, I know that /~huckphin does not exist, and this is not what I want. I want it to be accessing ~huckphin, not /~huckphin. What do I need to change on my configuration for this to work? [Added after comments] Hi Andol, thank you for your suggestions. So, first off, you said that you assume that I have the userdir module enabled, but I am not sure what that means exactly. That could be part of the problem. I do have the Module loaded, using the LoadModule directive. I have this: LoadModule userdir_module modules/mod_userdir.so I also did a find on where mod_userdir is, and I found it located here: [huckphin@crhyner-workbox]/% find / . -name '*mod_userdir.so*' 2> /dev/null /usr/lib64/lighttpd/mod_userdir.so /usr/lib64/httpd/modules/mod_userdir.so Is there something else I need to enable? Also, my directory configuration was mentioned. I have uncommented the default configuration given. I have not looked into what all of the configurations mean, and this could probably explain the issue.   • Subversion: Can't move... Permission Denied

    Whilst trying to commit some files to SVN, we're suddenly all getting this error Can't move '/usr/local/svn/articles/db/txn-protorevs/2002-8.rev' to '/usr/local/svn/articles/db/revs/2/2003': Permission denied I checked the permissions in the repository, and they look the same as all our other repositories, yet this is the only repo that causes the error. Any ideas how I can fix this? SVN is running as root on Linux via svnserve, FWIW.

This is fixed by adding my specific user account to the list but that shouldn't be necessary should it?

    Hello Have NLB set up and working. Just two servers, web1 and web2. I set up NLB on web1 and can view both machines as Converged. (I had to specify a login/pass to connect to web2). On web2, looking at the NLB Manager, it only shows web2 and says in the log "Accessed Denied. Error connecting to web1". Any ideas how to fix?

I got everything back in place except a right problems. if i us "mkdir" with php i get : permission denied. whoami return : "www-data" File owner are like before (for example web54:client4), same for directory Ftp user work fine, create new file and edit file with the same right (web54:client4) I don't understand why it does'nt work in php and I don't have any idea where to look now ?     I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server.The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied. Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx" This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access

    I have a user ftpadmin: -bash-3.2$ id ftpadmin uid=10001(ftpadmin) gid=2525(fsg) groups=2525(fsg),10005(git) The important group to note is "git" Then I have my git repository: ls -al drwxrwxr-x 7 git git 4096 Apr 20 14:17 fsg So ftpadmin is a member of git, and git has given all permissions to people in the group. Why do I see this when I login as ftpadmin: -bash-3.2$ ls -al /home/git/ ls: /home/git/fsg: Permission denied ... Seems like I should have permission...
